For a wide range of applications, paper materials require effective protection against the destructive effect of water, which is most effectively realized by superhydrophobic coatings. In recent years, a considerable amount of scientific research has been carried out in this area, focusing particularly on biogenic resources. With this contribution, we go one step further and examine how biogenic materials can be transferred into aqueous dispersions and coated onto paper via existing technologies. With this paper coating, based on a hydrophobic cellulose derivative in combination with a structurally similar wax, thermally regenerable flower-like surface morphologies are obtained via self-assembly, where the hydrophobic cellulose polymer acts as a structural template for the co-crystallization of the wax component. Such hydrophobic structures in the low micrometer range ensure perfectly water-repellent paper surfaces with contact angles > 150° starting from coating weights of 5 g/m2. The dispersion can be successfully applied to a variety of commercially available paper substrates, whereby the effects of different roughness, porosity, and hydrophobicity were investigated. In this context, a certain roughness of the base paper (Sa ~ 1.5–3 µm) was found to be beneficial for achieving the highest possible contact angles. Furthermore, the approach proved to be paper process-compatible, recyclable, and regenerable, whereby the processing temperatures allow the coating properties to be thermally generated in situ. With this work, we demonstrate how biogenic waxes are very well suited for superhydrophobic, regenerative coatings and, importantly, how they can be applied from aqueous coatings, enabling simple transfer into the paper industry. In this study, a novel, cost-effective, and environmental-friendly acetylcholinesterase (AChE)-based electrochemical biosensor was developed and utilized for paraoxon-ethyl (PE) detection. In this biosensor, cerium oxide (CeO2) and poly(3,4 ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PESOT:PSS) modified paper electrode was fabricated by a simple dip-coating method. The synergistic effect of CeO2 and PEDOT:PSS enhance the performance of AChE-based biosensor in terms of sensitivity and selectivity. The electrical conductivity and stability of the fabricated electrode are further improved with the treatment of ethylene glycol (EG). EG decreases the coulombic interactions between PEDOT and PSS molecules, causes polymer chain reorientation, and improves the non-covalent interaction between cellulose molecules and PEDOT, which further leads to higher conductivity. All electrochemical results validate that the biosensor shows good selectivity (Kselectivity < 1), high sensitivity of 52.10 µA/nM, and a low detection limit of 0.12 nM. The accuracy and applicability of the proposed biosensor were also checked with two real samples. Organic electrochromic conducting polymers (CPs) are at the forefront of flexible and ultra-thin display electronics. Solution processable poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS) exhibits excellent electrical and electrochemical behavior in line with great processability, stability, and other promising properties. However, their uses are limited by the weak mechanical properties, wet instability, as well as inevitable conflicts among different functionalities and structural characteristics, etc. In this study, we designed and fabricated a high-mechanical-strength electronic "paper", PEDOT:PSS/PEG-UPy film, employed a thermoplastic polyurethane poly(ethylene glycol)-2-amino-5-(2-hydroxyethyl)-6-methylpyrimidin-4-ol (PEG-UPy) using diverse processing (drop coating, spin coating, blade coating and 3D printing) of its "electric ink (E-ink)" from the mechanical mixture of its isopropanol (IPA) solution with aqueous PEDOT:PSS dispersion. Compared to PEDOT:PSS film, the incorporation of supramolecular chain-expanding unit 2-amino-4-hydroxy-6-methylpyrimidine (UPy) into the PEG-UPy molecular backbone resulted into optimized self-supporting (substrate-free) film of PEDOT:PSS/PEG-UPy(10 wt%) which showed great flexibility, enhanced mechanical strength (elongation at break 47.08 %, tensile strength of 19.16 MPa, toughness 7.973 MJ m−3), considerable electrical properties (0.509 S cm−1), desirable physical properties including resistance to abrasion and solvent-wiping, and excellent surface-interface properties (e.g., hardness of 3H, adhesion of level 0, glossiness of 91). Its electrochromic capabilities include an optical contrast (ΔT) value of 67 %, a fast redox reaction (4 s and 3 s, respectively), and a coloring efficiency (722.19 cm2 C−1). Similar to paper, they can be easily tailored or folded into a variety of forms, but have greater advances on dense morphology, flat surface, considerable optical transparency (79.5 %), as well as robust resistance to mechanical damage (in the case of bending, stretching, and folding, etc.), water (immersing > 150 days), and dirt. The combined effect of molecular design of PEG-UPy, abundant hydrogen-bonded cross-linking interaction and "good" solvent effect of IPA to PEDOT:PSS play important roles in this system. Biodegradable molecularly imprinted polymer-coated paper (MIP@paper) was effectively produced by polymerization using azinphos-methyl as a template molecule, terephthalic acid as a functional monomer, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as a cross-linker, and aqueous ethanol as a green porogenic solvent. The material was subsequently composited onto cellulose paper, which served as the natural substrate, by dip coating with the aid of chitosan and citric acid natural adhesive. The properties, such as static and dynamic adsorption, selectivity, and reusability, were assessed. At rapid adsorption equilibrium (10 min), the MIP@paper had a high adsorption capacity in the range of 2.5–3.7 mg g−1 and good recognition with imprinting factors up to 2.1. In addition, the proposed MIP@paper was utilized efficiently as a sorbent for dispersive solid phase extraction (d -SPE) of eight organophosphorus pesticides (OPPs) prior to high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis. The d -SPE-HPLC method displayed low detection limits of 1.2–4.5 μg kg−1 and significant enrichment factors (up to 320-fold). The proposed method was effectively applied for the determination of OPP residues in agricultural products, including fruits, vegetables, and cereal grains, with satisfactory spiked recoveries (80.1–119.1 %). Thus, the MIP@paper material provided a selective and environmentally favorable method for extracting and determining organophosphorus pesticides. A novel CuS grafted PEDOT:PSS conducting paper-based electrochemical immunosensor has been successfully fabricated for the detection of EpCAM antigen. Electrical conductivity is further improved by doping the CuS@PEDOT:PSS/WP electrode with different organic solvents such as N,N-dimethyl formamide (DMF), N,N-dimethyl acetamide (DMA), ethylene glycol (EG) and dimetyl sulfoxide (DMSO). It is observed that DMSO doped conducting paper shows the highest conductivity (6.1 × 10−2 S/cm) among all these solvents. This low cost, biodegradable electrochemical paper-based immunosensor (BSA/anti-EpCAM/EP) possesses a broad linear range from 0.01 pg/mL to 1000 ng/mL for EpCAM antigen detection. The immunosensor is found to have high sensitivity of 104.31 μA pg−1 mL. This paper presents the continuation of experimental investigations conducted by the present authors to measure and compare the thermal and fluid dynamic performance of a residential hydronic air coil using nanofluids. The prior experiments were limited to testing only one volumetric concentration (1%) of aluminum oxide (Al2O3) nanofluid. They compared it with the base fluid, a 60% ethylene glycol/40% water mixture by mass (60% EG). The original tests revealed some deficiencies in the experimental setup, which was subsequently revised and improved. This paper summarizes the results of experiments from the improved test bed using three concentrations of Al2O3 nanofluids: 1, 2, and 3% volumetric concentrations prepared with an average particle size of 45 nm in a 60% EG dispersion. The test bed in these experiments simulates a small air handling system typical of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) applications in cold regions. Entering conditions for the air and liquid were selected to emulate typical commercial air handling systems operating in cold climates. Contrary to previous findings, our test results revealed that nanofluids did not perform as well as expected. Prior predictions from many analytical and numerical studies had promised significant performance gain. The performance of the 1% nanofluid was generally equal to that of the base fluid under identical inlet conditions. However, the performance of the 2% and 3% nanofluids was considerably lower than that of the base fluid. The higher concentration nanofluids exhibited heat rates up to 14.6% lower than the 60% EG and up to 44.3% lower heat transfer coefficient. The 1% Al2O3/60% EG exhibited a 100% higher pressure drop across the coil than the base fluid, considering equal heat output. This performance degradation was attributed to the inability to maintain nanofluid dispersion stability, agglomeration, and subsequent decline in the thermophysical properties. Aims: Baicalin is a flavonoid derived from the root of the medicinal plant Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi (S. baicalensis) and is known for its various pharmacological properties. This study aimed to investigate the impact of baicalin (BAI) on the occurrence of kidney calcium oxalate crystal formation induced by ethylene glycol in male SD rats., Main Methods: A rat model of renal stones was created and various concentrations of baicalin were used for intervention. Samples of urine, blood, and kidney tissue were taken from the rats, and they were euthanized for biochemical and histopathological examinations., Key Findings: Our results show that baicalin treatment improved the weight loss induced by ethylene glycol (EG) and ammonium chloride (AC) in rats. Baicalin also reduced the formation of calcium oxalate crystals and protected kidney function in rats with urolithiasis. Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) hold great potential in biorefining because they can efficiently deconstruct the recalcitrant structure of lignocellulose. In particular, inorganic salts with Lewis acids have been proven to be effective at cleaving lignin-carbohydrate complexes. Herein, a Zr-based DES system composed of metal chloride hydrate (ZrOCl 2 ·8H 2 O) and ethylene glycol (EG) was designed and used for poplar powder pretreatment. Zr 4+ -based salts provide sufficient acidity for lignocellulose depolymerization. The acidity of the DES was analysed by the Kamlet-Taft solvatochromic parameter, and the results demonstrated that the acidity can be regulated by the DES composition. Under the optimum conditions (ZrOCl 2 ·8H 2 O:EG molar ratio of 1:2), the DES pretreatment removes nearly 100 % hemicellulose and 94.7 % lignin. The recovered lignin exhibited a low polydispersity of 1.7. The cellulose residues deliver an efficiency of 94.4 % upon enzymatic digestion. Moreover, the DES can be easily recovered with high yield and purity, and the recycled DES still maintains high delignification and enzymatic hydrolysis efficiencies. Pickering emulsions are considered as promising chemical oil repellents in enhanced oil recovery (EOR). In this paper, an amphiphilic block copolymer poly(ethylene glycol)–poly(dopamine methacrylamide) (mPEG–PDMA, abbreviated as mp) containing catechol adhesion groups was synthesized. The surface modification of A200 and SBA-15 nanoparticles was carried out using the strategy of dip-coating with mp solution, and the emulsification properties of the two modified particles and their stability were comparatively investigated. The results showed that both modified particles could achieve excellent emulsification performance. The best emulsification effect was achieved when the concentration of A200-mp and SBA-15-mp particles was 2.5 mg mL−1 and the oil phase volume fraction was 0.5. The emulsions stabilized by SBA-15-mp tended to be invertible when the volume fraction of the oil phase was 0.7 or pH = 2–3 or when NaCl was added, and O/W emulsions could be inverted into W/O types. Interestingly, the emulsions stabilized by A200-mp particles showed good acid resistance, alkali resistance, high salt resistance, multiple oil phase applicability and centrifugal shear stability. In the simulated rock permeation experiments, the emulsions prepared using A200-mp particles could stably permeate in the silica sand column without an obvious chromatographic separation effect, which is promising for application in tertiary oil recovery. In this paper, a heat generator with fluid agitation is developed and experimentally studied. This heat generator can convert kinetic energy from a wind turbine directly to thermal energy through the process of viscous dissipation—a process achieved through the agitation of the working fluid inside a container. In the experimental study, an electric motor (instead of a wind turbine) was used to provide the kinetic energy input to the heat generator. The torque, rotational speed, and temperature rise in the fluid were measured. Using the measured quantities, the efficiency of kinetic energy to sensible heat conversion was calculated. Experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of different impellers, rotational speeds, and working fluids, including distilled water, ethylene glycol (EG), and their respective nanofluids, with A l 2 O 3 nanoparticles at different concentrations. The study also found that the temperature rise in fluids due to viscous dissipation was influenced by the specific heat of the fluid, suggesting that the heat generator can be optimized for energy storage with high-specific-heat fluids, such as water, or for achieving a higher temperature rise with low-specific-heat fluids, such as ethylene glycol. The experimental results indicated that the heat generator was up to 90% efficient in converting kinetic energy to thermal energy. The study revealed that, for constant power input, the heat dissipation rate depends solely on the vessel's geometry, not the fluid properties. Optimizing the impeller design and baffles within the vessel is crucial for maximizing power input. Inadequate ionic conductivity and freezing of the electrolyte are considered one of the main problems in low-temperature electrochemical energy storage. Mixing two or more solvents can reduce the overall freezing point of the solution and also increase the ionic conductivity at low temperatures. Therefore, using the co-solvent method to prepare electrolytes is crucial for preventing electrolyte freezing and improving ion conductivity. In this paper, ethylene glycol (EG) was used as a low-temperature co-solvent and an electrolyte with a freezing point lower than − 80 ℃ was obtained by the introduction of a volume fraction of 20% ethylene glycol in 4.5 mol L−1 LiCl aqueous solution. The resulting electrolyte exhibited high ionic conductivity (1.143 mS·cm−1) at − 60 ℃ and low viscosity (1.391 mPa·s) at 20 ℃. The molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and FITR results indicate that hydrogen bonds can be effectively formed between ethylene glycol and water molecules, which facilitate the electrolyte to operate at low temperatures. In this paper, the effect of cross-linking agent on structural, morphological and luminescence properties of Ce-doped Gadolinium–aluminium–gallium garnet (called GAGG:Ce3+) was studied. Monoethylene glycol (EG) and various molecular weights (MWs) of Polyethylene glycol (PEG 400 and 1000) were used as cross-linking agents for sol–gel derived samples which were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry/thermogravimetry (DSC/TG), X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR) and photoluminescence (PL). XRD analysis showed that GAGG: Ce3+ crystallized in a single stable cubic phase for EG prepared sample and, independently in mixed cubic/perovskite phases for PEG 400 and 1000 prepared samples. FE-SEM investigation indicated a significant influence of the cross-linking agent on the morphology and the size of particles. Largest particles were obtained in PEG 1000 sample with an average size of ~ 414 nm. For PL, the highest emission intensity was observed for EG sample which is ascribed to single cubic phase. However, high luminescence quenching was found in high MWs of PEG samples that can be attributed to the growth of secondary phases, defect generation and high Ce4+ content. The nanogarnet obtained using EG presented a pure stable cubic phase and high luminescence emission making it a potential candidate to serve as an efficient scintillator. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Poly(ethylene glycol) monomethyl ether-b-poly(diisopropylaminoethyl methacrylate-b-poly(methacrylic acid)/lipoic acid (mPEG-b-PDPA- b -PMAA/LA), a novel amphiphilic triblock polymer, was designed and synthesized. A core-crosslinked micelle (CCM) for drug delivery was then formed by mPEG-b-PDPA-b-PMAA/LA through self-assembly and crosslinking reaction. The resulting CCM exhibited high stability in blood serum and against dilution compared to uncrosslinked micelles (UCM). CCM achieved high drug loading compared to UCM through investigating the encapsulation and release kinetics of DOX. With increasing polymerization of PDPA and PMAA, the drug-loading content (DLC) and drug-loading efficiency (DLE) of doxorubicin (DOX) in CCM increased, suggesting that the encapsulation capacity for DOX was enhanced with an increase in the hydrophobic core of the micelles. In addition, the CCM was shown to be capable of controlled release of drugs. An acidic pH and the presence of glutathione (GSH) led to the protonation of PDPA and collapse of PMAA gel, respectively, which caused the collapse of the micellar construct. This enabled a maximal DOX release rate of 90%. Then, the simultaneous loading and release of two therapeutics, DOX and HApt, using the micellar system was investigated. HApt and DOX were sought to be encapsulated in the PMAA gel and PDPA layer, respectively. The dual drug-release behaviors of the system were evaluated under different environmental stimulations. Pathology repositories worldwide store millions of celloidin-processed human brain and temporal bone (TB) sections vital for studying central nervous system diseases and sensory organs. However, accessing these sections for modern molecular-pathological research, like immunohistochemistry, is hindered by the challenge of removing celloidin without damaging tissue. In this study, we explored the use of polyethylene glycols (PEGs), a class of non-hazardous, ethylene glycol oligomers, combined with an improved section mounting technique, to gently and effectively dissolve celloidin from sections archived for up to 40 years. Optimizing our protocol involved exploring celloidin dissolution kinetics in PEGs of varying molecular weights and terminations, as well as different temperatures. Low molecular weight PEGs, particularly PEG 200, were the most efficient celloidin solvent. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy of celloidin-PEG 200 dissolution products revealed no chemical alterations, suggesting pure solvation without chemical modification. Because the solvation of celloidin in PEG was inhibited by proteins, we further developed a protein-free mounting protocol allowing complete celloidin removal in 30 to 60 minutes by immersing in PEG 200. In summary, our approach overcomes major methodological hurdles, rendering decades-old archival celloidin sections viable for immunohistochemical and other molecular biological techniques, while enhancing safety and workflow efficiency. High-molecular-weight poly(L-lactide)-b-poly(ethylene glycol)-b-poly(L-lactide) (PLLA-PEG-PLLA) is a flexible and biodegradable bioplastic that has promising potential in flexible food packaging but it has no antibacterial ability. Thus, in this work, the effect of zinc oxide nanoparticles (nano-ZnOs) which have antimicrobial activity on various properties of PLLA-PEG-PLLA was determined. The addition of nano-ZnOs enhanced the crystallization, tensile, UV-barrier, and antibacterial properties of PLLA-PEG-PLLA. However, the crystallization and tensile properties of nanocomposite films decreased again as the nano-ZnO increased beyond 2 wt%. The nano-ZnO was well distributed in the PLLA-PEG-PLLA matrix when the nano-ZnO content did not exceed 2 wt% and exhibited some nano-ZnO agglomerates when the nano-ZnO content was higher than 2 wt%. The thermal stability and moisture uptake of the PLLA-PEG-PLLA matrix decreased and the film's opacity increased as the nano-ZnO content increased. The PLLA-PEG-PLLA/ZnO nanocomposite films showed good antibacterial activity against bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. It can be concluded that nano-ZnOs can be used as a multi-functional filler of the flexible PLLA-PEG-PLLA. As a result, the addition of nano-ZnOs as a nucleating, reinforcing, UV-screening, and antibacterial agent in the flexible PLLA-PEG-PLLA matrix may provide protection for both the food and the packaging during transportation and storage. Simple Summary: In order to improve the comprehensive utilization of oil tea seed meal and increase the comprehensive economic benefits of the oil tea industry. In this paper, the low eutectic solvent was used as the extraction system, and the ultrasonic extraction method was combined with the enzymatic method to jointly extract the tea saponins. It was further purified with a large-pore adsorption resin to develop a set of environmentally friendly, energy-saving, and efficient tea saponin extraction and purification processes. On this basis, the tea saponins extracted from oil tea seed meal were further analyzed for antioxidant capacity and bacteriostatic activity. The results provided the scientific experimental basis and theoretical support for the efficient use of oil tea by-products. Tea saponins have high surface-active and biological activities and are widely used in chemicals, food, pharmaceuticals, and pesticides. Tea saponins are usually extracted using ethanol or water, but both methods have their disadvantages, including a negative impact on the environment, high energy consumption, and low purity. In this study, we explored an effective process for extracting tea saponins from tea meal using deep eutectic solvents combined with ultrasonic extraction and enzymatic techniques. The experimental results showed that a high extraction efficiency of 20.93 ± 0.48% could be achieved in 20 min using an ultrasonic power of 40% and a binary DES consisting of betaine and ethylene glycol (with a molar ratio of 1:3) at a material–liquid ratio of 1:35 and that the purity of the tea saponins after purification by a large-pore adsorption resin reached 95.94%, which was higher than that of commercially available standard tea saponin samples. In addition, the extracted tea saponins were evaluated for their antioxidant and bacteriostatic activities using chemical and biological methods; the results showed that the tea saponins extracted using these methods possessed antioxidant properties and displayed significant antibacterial activity. Therefore, the present study developed a method for using deep eutectic solvents as an environmentally friendly technological solution for obtaining high-purity tea saponins from tea meal oil. Although the incidence of infections in orthopedic surgeries, including periprosthetic surgeries, remains low at approximately 1–2%, the number of surgeries and the incidence of drug-resistant bacteria is increasing. The cost and morbidity associated with revision surgeries are huge. More effective drug combinations and delivery methods are urgently needed. In this paper, three anti-infective drugs (vancomycin, rifampicin, and silver sulfadiazine) have been jointly and effectively electrospun in thin (0.1 mm) flexible nanofiber mats of either poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) or poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA). The inclusion of poly (ethylene glycol) (PEG) enabled optimal drug release with a reduced water contact angle for wetting. The controlled release of these three agents from 20% PEG (w/w to polymer)-blended PMMA or PLGA nanofiber mats may allow for the prophylactical prevention of implant-related infections or provide methods to treat orthopedic infections at the time of revision surgeries. Natural gas hydrate (NGH) is a potential future energy resource. More than 90% of NGH resources exist in the pore medium of seafloor sediments. During the development of deep-sea oil and gas fields, wellbore pipelines are often clogged due to the synthesis of gas hydrates, and the addition of thermodynamic inhibitors is a common solution to prevent hydrate synthesis. In this paper, the effects of two single inhibitors, sodium chloride and ethylene glycol, as well as hybrid inhibitors combining these two inhibitors on the synthesis of methane hydrates were investigated using the self-developed one-dimensional gas hydrate exploitation simulation test apparatus. The effects of single and hybrid inhibitors were investigated in terms of the hydrate synthesis volume and gas–water two-phase conversion rate. The results show that the hybrid inhibitor has a better inhibitory effect on hydrate synthesis with the same initial synthesis driving force. When the concentration of inhibitors is low, salt inhibitors can have a better inhibitory effect than alcohol inhibitors. However, in the mixed inhibitor experiment, increasing the proportion of ethylene glycol in the mixed inhibitor can more effectively inhibit the synthesis of hydrates than increasing the proportion of sodium chloride in the mixed inhibitor. The use of water-based chemistry in photolithography during semiconductor fabrication is desirable due to its cost-effectiveness and minimal environmental impact, especially considering the large scale of semiconductor production. Despite these benefits, limited research has reported successful demonstrations of water-based photopatterning, particularly for intrinsically water-soluble materials such as Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) due to significant challenges in achieving selective dissolution during the developing process. In this paper, we propose a method for the direct patterning of PEDOT:PSS in water by introducing an amphiphilic Poly(ethylene glycol)-block-poly(propylene glycol)-block-poly(ethylene glycol) (PEO-PPO-PEO, P123) block copolymer to the PEDOT:PSS film. The addition of the block copolymer enhances the stretchability of the composite film and reduces the hydrophilicity of the film surface, allowing for water absorption only after UV exposure through a photoinitiated reaction with benzophenone. We apply this technique to fabricate tactile and wearable biosensors, both of which benefit from the mechanical stretchability and transparency of PEDOT:PSS. The paper deals with an experimental investigation of a new approach for cooling the external heat exchange surfaces of a cooler using an air pressure nozzle system. The G12+ coolant (50:50 ethylene glycol/water concentrate) is heated to an operating temperature of 80 °C and cooled by a cooler. Three ways of forced cooling of the external heat exchange surfaces of the cooler are experimentally compared—fan, nozzles, and a combination of nozzles and fan. The spacing between the nozzles and the cooler is variable from 60 to 170 mm in inline and staggered nozzle arrangements. Coolant temperatures in the cooler inlet and outlet pipes are recorded by thermistors. The air pressure nozzle system achieved an improvement in the cooling process compared to a conventional fan. At a spacing of 160 mm, the heat exchange surface is completely covered by the air flow, which leads to a reduction in cooling time and an increase in the temperature difference. The maximum temperature difference of 28.84 °C and 16.90 °C for staggered arrangement of nozzles at a spacing of 160 mm are achieved for the combination of nozzles with fan and nozzles, respectively. When comparing 60 mm and 160 mm spacing, there was an increase in thermal performance of 70.3%, 55.99%, 6.20%, and 1.83% for inline nozzles, staggered nozzles, fan with inline nozzles, and fan with staggered nozzles, respectively. The air nozzle system fully replaces the fan in the cooling process and achieves improved heat dissipation, making the cooling process significantly shorter and more efficient. Heart disease-related deaths have increased in recent decades, with most patients dying of sudden cardiac arrest. In such instances, the effect of regular electrocardiogram (ECG) measurements is minimal. Therefore, long-term ECG monitoring has become increasingly important. In this paper, we report a non-adhesive high accuracy ECG monitoring system that can be used in various scenarios without interfering with daily activities. The ECG ultra-thin film electrode is made by water-resistant material based on poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) poly(4-styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT: PSS) electrode doped with ethylene glycol (EG) and xylitol, to improve the noise signal caused by sweat. The optimal ratio of the three ingredients of PEDOT: PSS/xylitol/EG was determined experimentally to accommodate the ECG monitoring. By using the proposed selectively closed multi-channel single-lead logic circuit, the noise of ECG signal received from the proposed film electrode can be successfully reduced during broad-area electrode measurements, thus to improve ECG measurement accuracy. This paper focuses on the environmental leaching of antimony, a critical mineral, using deep eutectic solvents. Mining residues often contain embedded antimony, posing environmental risks. Deep eutectic solvents, known for being low in toxicity, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly, present a promising avenue for sustainable antimony extraction. The study focuses on optimizing the leaching process through experimental analysis by considering variables such as temperature, time, and percentage of solids. Different deep eutectic solvent (DES) compositions are being studied, including choline chloride with malonic acid, thiourea, and ethylene glycol in different molar ratios, to identify the most effective solvent system for antimony extraction. A sample, originally obtained from mining waste produced via the flotation of antimonite ore, was used to test these three types of DESs. By optimizing the leaching process by changing the ratio of solid and liquid components, as well as the amount of oxidizing agent up to 3 g, iodine, yields of up to 100% were achieved after leaching for 4 h at 100 °C. The aim of the study is to advance sustainable resource management by providing knowledge on an ecological and feasible method of extracting antimony from mine waste, leading to more conscious and efficient resource practices in the mining sector. The release of drugs from core/shell nanoparticles (NPs) is a crucial factor in ensuring high reproducibility, stability, and quality control. It serves as the scientific basis for the development of nanocarriers. Several factors, such as composition, composition ratio, ingredient interactions, and preparation methods, influence the drug release from these carrier systems. The objective of our study was to investigate and discuss the relationship between modifications of core/shell NPs as multifunctional drug delivery systems and the properties and kinetics of drug release using an in vitro drug release model. In this paper, we prepared four core/shell NPs consisting of a superparamagnetic iron oxide NPs (Fe3−δO4) core encapsulated by a biocompatible thermo-responsive copolymer, poly(2-(2-methoxy) ethyl methacrylate-oligo (ethylene glycol) methacrylate) or P(MEO2MAx-OEGMA100−x) (where x and 100 − x represented the molar fractions of MEO2MA and OEGMA, respectively), and loaded with doxorubicin (DOX). Colloidal behavior measurements in water and PBS as a function of temperature showed an optimization of the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) depending on the molar fractions of MEO2MA and OEGMA used to form each NPs. In vitro studies of doxorubicin release as a function of temperature demonstrated a high control of release based on the LCST. A temperature of approximately 45 °C for 60 h was sufficient to release 100% of the DOX loaded in the NPs for each sample. An exciting new class of heat transmission fluids, nanofluids, has been developed as an alternative to traditional fluids in manufacturing. Fuel cells, heat exchangers and pharmaceutical processes are just a few of the many uses for them. When compared to monofluids, the heat transmission properties of hybrid fluids are superior. These are findings used in an extensive diversity of fields, from solar energy to air conditioning. The objective of this paper is to examine how Lorentz force and chemical reaction parameters affect the characteristics of a couple stress hybrid nanofluid (Ethylene Glycol + Graphene + Copper) flow via an exponentially stretching surface. The heat transport phenomenon is studied using viscous dissipation, exponential heat source and thermal radiation parameters. Furthermore, irreversibility analysis is provided in this paper. Governing equations are transformed into a set of nonlinear ordinary differential equations using suitable similarity transformations. The bvp4c solver in MATLAB is used to solve the transformed system. Engineering parameters of interest, including skin friction coefficient, are described using bar diagrams. It has been noted that the magnetic field and volume fraction of graphene nanoparticles (ϕ1) reduce the skin friction coefficient. At 0≤ϕ1≤0.105$0 \le {\phi }_1 \le 0.105$, the skin friction coefficient decreases at a rate of 4.68187. It is observed that there is an increment in the fluid temperature with the rise in the exponential heat source parameter, and the velocity profile increases with the increase in the mixed convection parameter. It is detected that, while Eckert number (Eck$Eck$) was set to 0≤Eck≤0.7$0 \le Eck \le 0.7$, Nusselt number was reduced by 6.29239. It is noticed that, while the chemical reaction (Cr$Cr$) is set to 0≤Cr≤0.7$0 \le Cr \le 0.7$, the mass transfer rate rises at a Rate of 0.349644. It has been observed that as the Brinkmann number and magnetic field parameters increase, so does the rate of entropy production. The thermophysical properties of various types of nanofluids are often studied to find more effective working fluids for heat transfer applications. In this paper, the mass density, isobaric heat capacity, thermal conductivity, dynamic viscosity surface tension, and electrical properties of calcium carbonate-ethylene glycol (CaCO 3 -EG) nanofluids were investigated. The samples with mass fractions of 0.01, 0.02, and 0.03 were prepared with a two-step method and studied as well as pure base fluid (ethylene glycol). The measurements were conducted at temperatures between 283.15 and 313.15 K and the obtained results show the impact of CaCO 3  nanoparticles on the thermophysical and electrical properties of ethylene glycol. Monodisperse biodegradable polymer microspheres show broad applications in drug delivery and other fields. In this study, we developed an effective method that combines microfluidics with interfacial instability to prepare monodispersed poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid)-b-polyethylene glycol (PLGA-PEG)/poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) microspheres with tailored surface morphology. By adjusting the mass ratio of PLGA-PEG to PLGA, the concentration of stabilizers and the type of PLGA, we generated microspheres with various unique folded morphologies, such as "fishtail-like", "lace-like" and "sponge-like" porous structures. Additionally, we demonstrated that risperidone-loaded PLGA-PEG/PLGA microspheres with these folded morphologies significantly enhanced drug release, particularly in the initial stage, by exhibiting a logarithmic release profile. This feature could potentially address the issue of delayed release commonly observed in sustained-release formulations. The judicious selection of capping agents has been proven essential for the one-pot synthesis of high-purity two-dimensional noble-metal nanocrystals. In this study, we highlight the synergistic effect of using lauramidopropylamine oxide, a typical zwitterionic surfactant, in conjunction with the quaternary ammonium surfactant octadecyltrimethylammonium chloride. This pairing facilitates the production of Au nanoplates distinguished by their reduced lateral dimensions (i.e., sub-50 nm) and distinctive atomic packing. This ability to vary the structural features enables the Au nanoplates to exhibit enhanced electrochemical activity for the ethylene glycol oxidation reaction (EGOR) in an alkaline medium, characterized by improved reaction kinetics and prolonged cycling stability. DFT simulations suggested that the lower energy barrier of the rate-determining step on Au(211) compared to Au(111) and Au(100) indicates a higher electrochemical activity for the Au(211) surface. The present work underscores the potential of amine oxide-based zwitterionic surfactants in the controlled synthesis of two-dimensional Au nanocrystals, a method that could be potentially adapted for use with other noble metals and/or alloys. Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) are gaining rapid prominence in numerous biocatalysis processes due to their green characteristics, biodegradability, low cost, and simple preparation compared to harsh organic solvents and toxic ionic liquids. However, natural enzymes tend to show activity reduction, even inactivation in the presence of many DESs. Here, we present the first rational design approach to achieve enzymes resistant to both DESs and high temperatures. Using the interaction pattern between DESs and BSLA (Bacillus subtilis lipase A, our model enzyme) derived from all-atom molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, we formulated a solvation-guided engineering strategy. This was established after assessing 33 structural, solvation, and energy observables. We rationally designed and experimentally tested 36 single substitutions, of which 28 (a 77.78% success rate) exhibited improvements in at least two DES cosolvents: choline chloride (ChCl) : acetamide, tetrabutylphosphonium bromide (TBPB) : ethylene glycol (EG), and ChCl : EG. Additionally, through stepwise recombination, we identified two robust BSLA variants, D64H/R107L/E171Y and D64H/R142L, showing stability improvements of up to 4.4-fold and 3.2-fold in three DESs and at 50 °C, respectively. Further MD studies demonstrated that (i) the restricted overall structure but fine-tuned local flexibility and (ii) increased water but decreased DES molecules at substituted sites are two main factors contributing to the enhanced multiple DES resistance. Overall, solvation-guided engineering offers an efficient and rational approach for designing lipases tolerant to DES cosolvents and elevated temperatures, with a considerable potential for adaptation to other enzymes. Water‐dispersible fluorescent nano‐/microspheres have been widely used as fluorescent probes in many fields. In this paper, aldehyde‐functionalized fluorescent micelles are synthesized by self‐assembly of end‐modified hyperbranched poly(m‐phenyleneethynylene‐alter‐p‐phenyleneethynylene)(hb‐PMPE). First, hb‐PMPE with ‐Br end‐groups(hb‐PMPE‐Br) is obtained by the polymerization of AB2 monomer PhBr2–C≡C–Ph–C≡CH, then the reaction of hb‐PMPE‐Br with 4‐ethynylbenzaldehyde (EBA) gives end aldehyde‐functionalized hyperbranched polymer hb‐PMPE‐CHO. Hence, hb‐PMPE‐CHO is reacted with aminooxy methoxypolyethylene glycol‐2000 (NH2O‐MPEG2000) to link poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) chains to the ends of hb‐PMPE‐CHO with partial residual aldehyde end‐groups, resulting in aldehyde‐functionalized amphiphilic polymer hb‐PMPE‐PEG. Fluorescent micelles with aldehyde‐containing fluorescent hb‐PMPE core and PEG shell are obtained by self‐assembling hb‐PMPE‐PEG in water. The micelle diameter is determined by the PEG content in hb‐PMPE‐PEG, which can be controlled by the reaction weight ratio of NH2O‐MPEG2000/hb‐PMPE‐CHO. When the ratio of NH2O‐MPEG2000/hb‐PMPE‐CHO > 0.75/1, micelles with a diameter < 50 nm are obtained. The water dispersion of hb‐PMPE‐PEG‐1/2 micelles (28.9 nm) emits bright green fluorescence with λmax ≈ 490 nm under UV irradiation, and the emission intensity increases with increasing concentration. Curcuminoid boron difluoride dyes have garnered significant attention in the realm of bioimaging, primarily owing to their excellent photophysicochemical properties. However, the strong hydrophobicity limits their optimal near-infrared (NIR) fluorescence emission, and the synthesis process is complicated. In this study, Curc-TPA, a curcuminoid boron difluoride derivative with a high fluorescence quantum yield, was facilely synthesized and surprisingly exhibited aggregation-induced NIR emission in a dimethyl sulfoxide/water mixture. The compound self-assembled into stable and homogeneous nanoparticles through hydrophobic interaction with the amphiphilic polymer 1,2-distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine-poly(ethylene glycol), which showed enhanced aggregation-induced emission (AIE) capacity in the NIR region. The nanoparticles specifically enriched at the tumor site due to the enhanced penetration and retention effect and exhibited bright fluorescence in vitro and in vivo. Notably, they showed satisfactory hematological compatibility and unobservable cellular and histological toxicity. Combining the potency of non-covalent halogen bonding (XB) with metal ion coordination, the synthesis and characterisation of a series of hydrophilic XB tripodal Cu(II) metallo-receptors, strategically designed for tetrahedral anion guest binding and sensing in aqueous media is described. The reported metallo-hosts contain a tripodal C3-symmetric tris-iodotriazole XB donor anion recognition motif terminally functionalised with tri(ethylene glycol) and permethylated β-cyclodextrin functionalities to impart aqueous solubility. Optical UV-vis anion binding studies in combination with unprecedented quantitative EPR anion titration investigations reveal the XB Cu(II) metallo-receptors exhibit strong and selective phosphate recognition over a range of other monocharged anionic species in competitive aqueous solution containing 40% water, notably outperforming a hydrogen bonding (HB) Cu(II) metallo-receptor counterpart. Electrochemical studies demonstrate further the capability of the metallo-receptors to sense anions via significant cathodic perturbations of the respective Cu(II)/Cu(I) redox couple. For the controllable transformation of C3–6 diols in ethylene glycol (EG), a H-Beta zeolite catalyst was modified with NH3via incomplete desorption. 60.8% of acid sites on the zeolite were deactivated, but the ratio of strong acid sites was obviously increased. With 1,2-pentanediol (PDO) as a representative large-carbon-number diol, the undesirable acetalization and oligomerization reactions of EG were suppressed in the EG-PDO reaction system over the modified catalyst due to their dependency on total acid sites. NH3-TPD and FTIR results proved that Lewis acid sites on the modified zeolite were eliminated after modification, resulting in the suppression of acetalization and oligomerization reactions. In contrast, a portion of strong Brønsted acid sites still remained, ensuring the catalytic transformation of PDO. Only 8.2% of EG was consumed after 8 h reaction, and the conversion of PDO could reach 84.3%. The loading of NH3 on the surface of zeolite pores led to diffusion resistance, slightly decreasing the reaction rate of PDO without affecting the reaction selectivity. The catalytic reactions of other C3–6 diols in EG followed similar principles, and the selectivity to aldehydes or ketone was improved over this modified catalyst. Non-diol biomass hydrogenation products such as glycerol had a negative influence on the selectivity, so these components should be isolated before the reactions. This catalyst could be reused at least 5 times, and the conversion of PDO slightly decreased. Due to their strong antibacterial activity and nanometric size, nanoparticles have become a feasible option for a range of medical treatments. The purpose of the research is to prepare a nanocomposite of four materials, and to study the effect of the content of silicon dioxide (SiO2) / cobalt oxide (CO2O3) NPs on the PVA–PEG mixture. In this paper, samples of polymer nanocomposite were created by solution casting. The test specimens were made of an organic host matrix consisting of poly (ethylene glycol) (PEG) and poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) polymer mixture. Different concentrations of silicon dioxide (SiO2) and cobalt oxide (CO2O3) were introduced to specimens at different weight percentages (0%, 2%, 4%, 6%, and 8%). The present research tested the optical, structural, morphological, and antibacterial characteristics of (PVA–PEG-SiO2–CO2O3) NCs. The blended homogenous nanoparticle distribution, which forms a unified network across the polymer matrix, is shown in the optical microscope photos. The outcomes of field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) investigations show that the surface morphology is sufficiently homogenous and distributed. The blend consisting of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and (polyethylene glycol) (PEG) was discovered to be amorphous by X-ray diffraction (XRD) investigation. Furthermore, peaks of other nanomaterials appeared at all nanocomposites sample concentrations, and we compared them with the reference code PDF. For both allowed and forbidden transitions, the energy gap shrinks from (4.23 to 3.22) eV and (3.9 to 2.59) eV, respectively. The outcomes indicate an upward trend between the measured absorbance values, absorption coefficient (α), refractive index (n), real and imaginary dielectric constants, and optical conductivity (σop) with riesing the concentrations of (SiO2–CO2O3) nanoparticles, especially in the UV and visible areas. It appeared clearly at the highest amount of nanoparticles at a certain wavelength (390 nm), and the results indicated that they could be attractive materials for nano-oriented optoelectronic devices. The antibacterial properties of the (PVA–PEG-SiO2–CO2O3) nanocomposites were finally studied. As the ratio of SiO2–CO2O3 nanoparticles to PVA-PEG grew, so did the antibacterial activity of S. aureus and E. coli, yielding inhibition region values of (20 and 21) mm, respectively. Unexplained acute kidney injury (AKI) in children owing to diethylene glycol (DEG) contamination during drug production has gained attention in recent years. This qualitative study investigated the effects of DEG exposure on the incidence of unknown AKIin children. A systematic review following the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis) guidelines was proposed to search for studies using predefined search terms in the PubMed, EBSCO, and Web of Science databases without publication date restrictions. The inclusion criteria are observational study, case study, case report, and case series design; and having provided accurate data for DEG poisoning and AKI diagnosis in children. All authors performed the study screening, data extraction, and data synthesis processes. Consensus was reached by mutual agreement. The data synthesis was conducted according to the DEG and unexplained AKI in children by examining the statistical data using Microsoft Excel 2017 and storing the data using the cloud service of Universitas Islam Indonesia. Of the 115 included studies, 21 met the inclusion criteria, including 2 case-control studies, 1 cross-sectional study, 4 case studies, and 14 case reports. DEG-contaminated paracetamol caused unexplained AKI in children. Other drugs including cough expectorants, antihistamines, and sedatives were administered. Chemicals other than DEG, such as propylene glycol and ethylene glycol, also induce AKI owing to overprescription and unintentional exposure. AbstractThe application of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in water treatment membranes can increase the permeability and selectivity of the membranes. However, traditional CNTs are usually affected by van der Waals forces, which makes them prone to agglomerate in polymer membranes, and their non-directional arrangement in the membranes limits their transport efficiency as water channels in the membranes. In this paper, a reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization method was used to synthesize propargyl methacrylate - random copolymerization - poly (ethylene glycol) methacrylate - block - polymethyl methacrylate [P(PgMA-r-PEGMA) -b-PMMA]. The P(PgMA-r-PEGMA)-b-PMMA grafting rate was 60.4% on the surface of magnetic sulfhydryl functionalized carbon nanotubes (mCNTs-SH) by click-reaction grafting. Poly (vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF)/CNTs composite ultrafiltration membranes were prepared using vapor-induced phase separation (VIPS) combined with magnetic field arraying. When the mCNTs-g-P(PgMA-r-PEGMA)-b-PMMA were vertically aligned in the PVDF membrane through a magnetic field, the effective construction of the vertical nanochannels was realized, and an increased purified water flux from 25.6 LMH to 35.8 LMH, with the composite ultrafiltration membranes was obtained. In addition, the membranes also showed excellent hydrophilicity, mechanical properties, and polyethylene glycol 1200 (PEG1200) rejection. The water contact angle was reduced from 105° to 79°, the rejection of PEG1200 was increased from 44% to 91% of the 0.5 g/L PEG aqueous solutions, and excellent mechanical properties (tensile strengthes up to 9.3 MPa) were achieved. By designing the interface structure of the CNTs and studying the orientation of the CNTs in PVDF membranes, this work provides a new research idea for the field of water treatment ultrafiltration membranes. Selective oxidation of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde is one of the vital reactions because of the commercial application of benzaldehyde in various chemical and pharmaceutical industries. This work investigates a gentler method for creating NiFe2O4 nanoparticles (NPs) by a co-precipitation method combined with hydrothermal ageing in the presence of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) of different molecular weights. The investigation findings reveal the formation of well-crystalline cube-shaped and a mixture of spherical and cube-shaped particles depending on the concentration of the additive. The formed particles are magnetically ordered exhibiting superparamagnetic behaviour at room temperature with saturation magnetization (Ms) values ranging from 41.0 to 43.0 emu g−1. The as-prepared NiFe2O4 NPs can selectively catalyze the oxidation of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde at room temperature under sonochemical conditions in the presence of tert-butyl hydroperoxide. Under the optimized conditions, 90% of benzaldehyde with 100% selectivity in 2.0 h at room temperature (25–30 °C) is recorded. The versatility of the current protocol has been extended to a variety of substituted benzyl alcohols with good to excellent performance under the optimized reaction conditions. Nanoflake-assembled ZnWO4 yolk–shell microspheres (NFYM-ZnWO4) with a diameter of 1.5–2 μm and a wall thickness of about 300 nm have been rationally designed and prepared by a facile one-pot method, were composed of numerous nanoflakes (NFs) with a thickness of 10–15 nm and possessed large specific surface areas. The controlled experiments demonstrated that the novel NFYM-ZnWO4 were induced by the synergistic effects of ligands (L -aspartic acid, L -Asp) and mixed solvents (ethylene glycol, EG). Combined with the morphological evolution process, a rational mechanism was proposed to describe the nucleation, self-assembly and Ostwald ripening associated with the formation of NFYM-ZnWO4. Benefiting from yolk–shell features and large specific surface areas, the as-synthesized NFYM-ZnWO4 were evaluated as adsorbents. With a maximum adsorption capacity of 321.2 mg g−1, NFYM-ZnWO4 exhibited a high efficiency for Pb2+ removal in aqueous solution, which was over 5 times higher than the nanoparticle-assembled ZnWO4 yolk–shell microspheres (NPYM-ZnWO4). This paper presents the experimental analysis of viscosimetric properties of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) in dimethyl sulphoxide DMSO. By the viscosimetric study of solutions of PEG/DMSO, the dynamic viscosity was measured under the influence of increasing PEG concentration (1 g/l to 10 g/l) and increasing temperature (15°C to 45°C). The reduced dynamic viscosity and the activation energy of reduced dynamic viscosity Eη are calculated. The polymer solutions exhibited a critical concentration c**, separating dilute solutions into extremely dilute solutions and dilute solutions. The most important results refer to the activation energy of reduced dynamic viscosity found from Arrhenius plots. The dependence of the activation energy on solution concentration and temperature is discussed. PEG behaviour can be extrapolated from the Flory-Huggins theory by decomposing such as Eη= (Eη)ex di+ (Eη)di+ (Eη)cri. The extremely dilute solution behaviour of Arrhenius is described by the PEG-DMSO interaction and represented by the function (Eη)ex di. For the dilute solution behaviour of non-Arrhenius which is described by the interaction between the PEG-PEG and represented by the function (Eη)di. The critical solution behaviour of is described by the PEG-PEG and PEG-DMSO interactions and represented by the function (Eη)cri. The sluggishness of the complementary oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is reckoned as one of the major drawbacks in developing an energy‐efficient green hydrogen‐producing electrolyzer. An array of organic molecule oxidation reactions, operational at a relatively low potential, have been explored as a substitute for the OER. Glycerol oxidation reaction (GOR) has emerged as a leading alternative in this context because glycerol, a waste of biodiesel manufacturing, has become ubiquitous and accessible due to the significant growth in the biodiesel sector in recent decades. Additionally, the GOR generates several value‐added organic compounds following oxidation that enhance the cost viability of the overall electrolysis reaction. In this study, a low‐cost, room temperature operable, and energy‐efficient synthetic methodology has been developed to generate unique two‐dimensional CuO nanosheets (CuO NS). This CuO NS material was embedded on a carbon paper electrode, which showcased excellent glycerol electro‐oxidation performance operational at a moderately low applied potential. Formic acid is the major product of this CuO NS‐driven GOR (Faradaic efficiency ~80 %), as it is formed primarily via the glyceraldehyde oxidation pathway. This CuO NS material was also active for oxidizing other abundant alcohols like ethylene glycol and diethylene glycol, albeit at a relatively poor efficiency. Therefore, this robust CuO NS material has displayed the potential to be used in large‐scale electrolyzers functioning with HER/GOR reactions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Molecular designs that achieve solubility of porphyrins in aqueous media are attractive for diverse applications. The presence of 4-sulfophenyl or 4-N-methylpyridinium groups at the four meso-positions is effective, but the use of fewer substituents is desirable for custom tailoring. Here, five target porphyrins (along with selected copper or zinc chelates) were prepared bearing PEG groups to understand how distinct designs affect aqueous solubility (where "PEG" refers to an oligoethylene glycol unit). One objective was to employ only one or two pegylated meso-aryl groups so that other meso-positions would be open for synthetic elaboration while retaining a compact structure. The key design features examined include (i) 2,6- versus 3,5-dipegylated aryl groups; (ii) one versus two 2,6-dipegylated aryl groups; (iii) a nonpolar versus ionizable terminus of the PEG moiety; and (iv) length of the PEG moiety. In each case, the PEG groups were attached on a porphyrin scaffold bearing one or two bis(2-propynyloxy)aryl groups. Assessment entailed octanol–aqueous solution partitioning (log P values) and aggregation over the concentration range of 0.2–200 μM. A trans-A2 free base porphyrin bearing two 2,6-dialkoxyphenyl groups equipped with methyl-terminated PEG6 groups gave ∼3 : 1 partitioning in water versus octanol but high overall solubility (at least 12 mM) in water alone; the analogous porphyrin with carboxylic acid-terminated PEG6 groups gave >100 : 1 partitioning in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS, pH 7.4). A trans-AB porphyrin bearing a single 2,6-dialkoxyphenyl group equipped with carboxylic acid-terminated PEG6 groups gave 43 : 1 partitioning in PBS versus octanol but was prone to self-aggregation at 20–200 μM in PBS alone. The construction of diverse and distinctive self‐assembled structures in water, based on the control of the self‐assembly processes of artificial small molecules, has received considerable attention in supramolecular chemistry. Cage‐like perforated vesicles are distinctive and interesting self‐assembled structures. However, the development of self‐assembling molecules that can easily form perforated vesicles remains challenging. This paper reports a lower critical solution temperature (LCST) behavior‐triggered self‐assembly property of a 4‐aminoquinoline (4‐AQ)‐based amphiphile with a tetra(ethylene glycol) chain, in HEPES buffer (pH 7.4). This property allows to form perforated vesicles after heating at 80 °C (> LCST). The self‐assembly process of the 4‐AQ amphiphile can be controlled by heating at 80 °C (> LCST) or 60 °C (< LCST). After cooling to room temperature, the selective construction of the perforated vesicles and nanofibers was achieved from the same 4‐AQ amphiphile. Furthermore, the perforated vesicles exhibited slow morphological transformation into intertwined‐like nanofibers but were easily restored by brief heating above the LCST. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Forward osmosis (FO) using deep eutectic solvents (DESs) as the draw solution (DS) was used in liquid mining of lithium from a synthesized brine, which was used as the feed solution (FS). Two DESs (choline chloride: 2 ethylene glycol and choline chloride: 2 levulinic acid) were studied as the DS. The water flux, reverse solute flux, final lithium concentration, and physical properties of commercially available cellulose triacetate membranes were studied experimentally. The performance of the DESs as DS in FO was compared to aqueous inorganic solutions at various concentration levels. Among all the DSs studied, choline chloride: 2 ethylene glycol (ChCl: 2 EG) resulted in the highest water flux (18.25 L m−2 h−1), upgrading the concentration of lithium by up to 3.68 times. In terms of reverse solute flux, the DESs showed lower values compared to the aqueous inorganic DSs tested when the active layer of the membrane was facing the FS. The use of DESs was also found to improve the membrane hydrophilicity and roughness. Freeze concentration (FC) was subsequently used to separate and recover the water that permeated into the DS and reconcentrate the latter for reuse in FO. This work highlights the potential sustainability benefits of the use of FO in lithium extraction, as the integration of FO with green DESs offers a promising liquid mining solution to meet the increasing demand for lithium while mitigating the environmental concerns associated with its extraction. In our prior paper, surface micelles with the core‐shell‐petal structure of the double hydrophilic block copolymer poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide)‐block‐poly[oligo(ethylene glycol) acrylate] (PNIPAM‐b‐POEGA) were successfully evaluated. In this work, ionic strength (under acidic conditions) and anion‐specificity effects (under neutral conditions) on the aggregation behavior of PNIPAM‐b‐POEGA at the air/water interface and the morphologies of its Langmuir–Blodgett (LB) films were systematically studied. Under acidic conditions, the salting‐out effect prevails over the electrostatic shielding effect, and the amide group shells with a slight protonation degree are covered up by the large POEGA petals. Under neutral conditions, the stretching degrees of POEGA blocks at low/moderate salt concentrations are close. At high salt concentrations, the isotherms gradually shift to large molecular areas in the order of the NaCl, Na2SO4, NaNO3, and NaSCN cases. The hysteresis degrees of the monolayers increase with the increase of salt concentrations due to the gradually increased interfacial stretching degree and compression‐induced underwater solubility of POEGA blocks. All the initial LB films of PNIPAM‐b‐POEGA exhibit isolated circular micelles with small cores. Cyclometallated Pt(II) complexes possessing hydrophobic 2-phenylpyridine (ppy) ligands and hydrophilic acetonylacetone (acac) ligands have been investigated for their ability to detect amyloid fibrils via luminescence response. Using hen egg-white lysozyme (HEWL) as a model amyloid protein, Pt(II) complexes featuring benzanilide-substituted ppy ligands and ethylene glycol-functionalized acac ligands demonstrated enhanced luminescence in the presence of HEWL fibrils, whereas Pt(II) complexes lacking complementary hydrophobic/hydrophilic ligand sets displayed little to no emission enhancement. An amphiphilic Pt(II) complex incorporating a bis(ethylene glycol)-derivatized acac ligand was additionally found to trigger restructuring of HEWL fibrils into smaller spherical aggregates. Amphiphilic Pt(II) complexes were generally non-toxic to SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cells, and several complexes also exhibited enhanced luminescence in the presence of Aß42 fibrils associated with Alzheimer's disease. This study demonstrates that easily prepared and robust (ppy)PtII(acac) complexes show promising reactivity toward amyloid fibrils and represent attractive molecular scaffolds for design of small-molecule probes targeting amyloid assemblies. In this work, a nanogold surface molecularly imprinted polymer spectral probe (AuNP@MIP) for selectively identifying ferrocyanide was prepared under microwave irradiation using nanogold as the core, ferrocyanide as the template ion, methacrylic acid as the monomer, and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as the cross-linking agent. AuNP@MIP was found to produce a resonance Rayleigh scattering (RRS) peak at 370 nm. When potassium ferrocyanide (K4Fe(CN)6) was present, a AuNP@MIP-Fe(CN)6 complex was formed, producing RRSenergy transfer (RRS-ET). With an increase in ferrocyanide concentration within a certain range, the RRS intensity at 370 nm decreased linearly, and the detection range was 0.02-0.40 µmol L-1, with a detection limit as low as 0.006 µmol L-1 ferrocyanide. This new method has the advantages of simplicity, rapidity, and selectivity when applied for the determination of K4Fe(CN)6 in table salt. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study investigated the influence of microstructure on the performance of Ag inkjet-printed, resistive temperature detectors (RTDs) fabricated using particle-free inks based on a silver nitrate (AgNO3) precursor and ethylene glycol as the ink solvent. Specifically, the temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) and sensitivity for sensors printed using inks that use monoethylene glycol (mono-EG), diethylene glycol (di-EG), and triethylene glycol (tri-EG) and subjected to a low-pressure argon (Ar) plasma after printing were investigated. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) confirmed previous findings that microstructure is strongly influenced by the ink solvent, with mono-EG inks producing dense structures, while di- and tri-EG inks produce porous structures, with tri-EG inks yielding the most porous structures. RTD testing revealed that sensors printed using mono-EG ink exhibited the highest TCR (1.7 × 10−3/°C), followed by di-EG ink (8.2 × 10−4/°C) and tri-EG ink (7.2 × 10−4/°C). These findings indicate that porosity exhibits a strong negative influence on TCR. Sensitivity was not strongly influenced by microstructure but rather by the resistance of RTD. The highest sensitivity (0.84 Ω/°C) was observed for an RTD printed using mono-EG ink but not under plasma exposure conditions that yield the highest TCR. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
