The aim of this work was to analyse the effect of tandem repetitions in exon III of the DRD4 gene on the features of human decision‐making in a model of choosing tourist attractions by adult residents of China. The study included 380 subjects: 162 (42.6%) men and 218 (57.4%) women. The mean age of the subjects was 31.7 ± 3.32 years. As a result of the survey of subjects, 5 groups of motivations for choosing tourist attractions were identified, and the frequency of their use, including the identified combinations, was determined. Using the genotyping method, the frequency of DRD4 subtypes among the subjects was determined, and their relationship with the indicated attraction selection groups was studied. It has been established that there is a significant dependence of the frequency of choosing the attractors 'relaxation', 'desire for novelty' and 'self‐realization' and their combinations on the frequency of occurrence of the DRD4 2R, 4R and 5R+ subtypes in the study groups. A conclusion was made about the possible mechanism of the influence of manifestations of DRD4 subtypes on the choice of tourist attractors by implementing the neurophysiological influence of the genome on reducing the sensitivity of brain receptors to dopamine, which stimulates behaviours that compensate for the need for additional emotional influences. This work complements the existing knowledge about the impact of human innate properties on the characteristics of his behaviour and possible patterns of influence of human genotype variability on decision‐making and suggests further possible directions of research in this area. Objective: The goal was to examine (a) how parental involvement affects mental health in left‐behind children (LBC), and (b) how the interaction effect of parental involvement and grandparent involvement affects mental health in LBC. Background: Given the rapid industrialization and urbanization in China, a substantial number of rural laborers have migrated to cities to earn a living. However, it is difficult for many children to stay with their parents and they have to be left behind. Methods: The sample consisted of 309 left‐behind children who had grandparents to care for them. The participants completed the Inventory of Father Involvement, Inventory of Mother Involvement, Inventory of Closest Grandparent Involvement, Needs Satisfaction Questionnaire, and Emotional Experience of Well‐being Questionnaire. Results: Needs satisfaction mediated the effect of father involvement on emotional well‐being (EWB) and the effect of mother involvement on EWB in LBC. The closest grandparent involvement of LBC moderated the effect of mother involvement on needs satisfaction, but it did not moderate the effect of father involvement on needs satisfaction. The closest grandparent involvement of LBC moderated the indirect effect of mother involvement on EWB through needs satisfaction. Conclusions: Needs satisfaction is an essential mediator between parental involvement and EWB. Grandparental involvement of LBC plays a complementary role in mother involvement. Their interaction effect facilitates the fulfilment of needs, and improves their EWB in LBC. Implications: The mental health of LBC can be improved by helping their mothers and grandparents to meet various needs of LBC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Ramularia sphaeroidea was primarily identified based on the characteristics of its conidia and several sequences. The fungus causes severe leaf spot disease on hairy vetch (Vicia villosa var. glabrescens) in Yunnan Province in China. The growth, sporulation, fungicide efficacy, and host range of the pathogen were evaluated to aid in disease management. Different types of culture media and carbon and nitrogen sources were used to evaluate the growth of R. sphaeroidea. Oatmeal, maltose, and potassium nitrate agar had a higher amount of sporulation. Difenoconazole (10%) was the most effective fungicide against the leaf disease caused by R. sphaeroidea. In addition, foliar inoculation sprays were used to assess the host range of R. sphaeroidea in six different plant species, including alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.), sainfoin (Onobrychis viciifolia Scop.), erect milkvetch (Astragalus adsurgens Pall.), common vetch (Vicia sativa L.), red clover (Trifolium pratense L.), and white clover (Trifolium repens L.). The authors explore the barriers and facilitators to early mobilisation and weight-bearing as tolerated following hip fracture surgery among older adults in China and other countries, like India and Saudi Arabia. Topics discussed include the factors in determining weight-bearing prescriptions, the importance of multidisciplinary co-management and patient education, and the use of a gradual transition approach to expand early mobilisation.

Objectives: To explore the mediating role of self‐esteem in social anxiety and QoL during the COVID‐19 local epidemic in China. Design: A cross‐sectional survey. Methods: This study conveniently selected 344 hypertensive patients from a Grade‐A tertiary hospital in Wuhu, Anhui Province, as the study population. Participants completed the demographic questionnaire, the social phobia inventory, the self‐esteem scale and the 36‐item short‐form health survey. Results: Social anxiety, self‐esteem and QoL were significantly correlated with each other. Social anxiety showed no direct effect on QoL (β = 0.011, p > 0.05). Social anxiety showed an indirect effect on QoL (β = −0.248, p < 0.001). Self‐esteem fully mediated the association between social anxiety and QoL in hypertensive patients. [Display omitted] Establishing a suitable tunnel boring machine (TBM) performance estimation model is benefit to the machine type selection, project scheduling and budgeting. Although various models have been developed to predict TBM performance, most of these models use a relatively small specific database, which is difficult to be applied to engineering practice. In this study, some equations for estimating TBM penetration rate (PR) applicable to different geological conditions are proposed. Firstly, a TBM construction performance database containing 159 tunnel sections is built according to four different tunnel projects originating from China, which covers rock mass properties, TBM specification parameters and performance information. By eliminating the effects of some TBM specification and operating parameters, a normalized energy index is proposed for assessing the rock mass boreability. On this basis, a series of statistical analysis, i.e. linear multiple regression (LMR) and non-linear multiple regression (NLMR) are used to develop some empirical equations for estimating the PR by employing rock mass properties and TBM specification parameters, and more than 84% of the PR can be accurately predicted. Finally, to further evaluate the prediction performance of these equations, they are compared and discussed with fifteen published typical models, and the results proved that the models developed in this study are more reasonable and reliable. It should be noted that the input parameters of these equations are readily available at the project planning stage, thus they are very simple and practical for designers and constructors. Context: Pancreatic cancer (PC) has a poor response to the many treatments available for it, including surgery, chemotherapeutics, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy. It's crucial to investigate alternative methods of prognostic assessment and decision-making in choosing a therapy, making it necessary to explore its differentially expressed genes (DEGs)., Objective: The study intended to assess the role of endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS)-related genes (ERSRGs) in PC to create an effective, prognostic risk-prediction model and potential immunotherapy options., Design: The research team performed a genetic study., Setting: The study took place at the Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University in Nantong, Jiangsu, China., Outcome Measures: The research team: (1) performed molecular subtype identification and analysis, (2) developed a prognostic risk model, (3) evaluated the clinical features of the risk model, (4) identified the clinicopathological features affecting survival, (5) analyzed the potential immune roles in ERS, (6) constructed five gene signatures associated with ERS, (7) examined the association between different risk categories and sensitivity to GDSC drugs as a potential predictor of response to chemotherapy , and (8) identified the biological processes associated with different risk categories., Results: Significant differences existed in the survival prognosis of subtype C and subtype A or B (P < .001). The high-risk group with the lower TIDE score had a significantly better response to immunotherapy (P < .0057). The high-risk group had a significantly higher somatic mutation rate (P < .00017) and a worse survival prognosis (P < .001). Differences in mRNA expression existed for ERAP2 (P < .001), IGF2BP2 (P = .006), DSG3 (P = .001), MAPK10 (P = .006), and PRKCSH (P ≤ .015) in clinical samples., Conclusions: Through the analysis of ERS subtypes of pancreatic cancer, the study found that the infiltration abundance of stromal cells and immune cells can affected by ERS, thus changing the prognosis of patients. The predictive model provides reference values for clinical prognosis and immunotherapy for PC patients through its ability to evaluate patients' immune statuses. Clinical treatment can provide individualized guidance and can effectively predict the prognosis of PC patients.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the caregiving behaviours and supportive needs of caregivers of patients with HIV/AIDS and provide a basis for healthcare institutions to carry out caregiver interventions., Design: A purposive sampling method was used to select 11 caregivers of patients with HIV/AIDS in the Infectious Disease Department of a tertiary hospital in Nanjing, China, to conduct semistructured interviews. Colaizzi analysis was used to collate and analyse the interview data., Setting: All interviews were conducted at a tertiary hospital specialising in infectious diseases in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province., Participants: We purposively sampled 11 caregivers of people with HIV/AIDS, including nine women and two men., Results: Analysing the results from the perspective of iceberg theory, three thematic layers were identified: behavioural, value and belief. Background: Creativity is an essential cognitive ability that plays a crucial role in advanced thinking. While previous research has demonstrated the impact of insomnia on cognitive function, its effects on creativity in Chinese adolescents remain unclear. This study explored the relationship between insomnia (specifically, daytime and nighttime disturbances) and creativity in adolescents. Additionally, it examined the potential mediating effect of the need for cognition on this relationship., Methods: Questionnaires were administered to 302 adolescents to measure their creativity, need for cognition, and insomnia levels using the Williams Creative Tendencies Scale, Need for Cognition Scale, and Bergen Insomnia Scale, respectively. Regression analysis was conducted to examine the direct impact of insomnia on creativity. Furthermore, a mediation model was constructed to investigate the role of the need for cognition in mediating the relationship between insomnia and creativity., Results: The findings of the present study indicated that insomnia had a direct impact on the creativity of adolescents, demonstrating a time-of-day effect. Daytime disturbances were found to have a positive correlation with overall creativity and imagination, whereas no significant direct effect was found between nighttime disturbances and creativity. Further analysis revealed that insomnia, specifically daytime disturbances, might influence creativity by affecting the individual's need for cognition. However, no similar indirect effects were observed for the relationship between nighttime disturbances and creativity., Conclusions: Our findings indicate that adolescents might experience improved creativity as a result of daytime disruptions, and the level of need for cognition could play a crucial role in understanding the link between insomnia and creativity in adolescents., (© 2024. Baccaurea ramiflora Lour., an evergreen tree of the Baccaurea genus of the Phyllanthaceae family, is primarily distributed in South Asia, Southeast Asia, and southern China, including southern Yunnan Province. It is a wild or semi-cultivated tree species with ornamental, edible, and medicinal value, exhibiting significant development potential. In this study, we present the whole-genome sequencing of B. ramiflora, employing a combination of PacBio SMRT and Illumina HiSeq 2500 sequencing techniques. The assembled genome size was 975.8 Mb, with a contig N50 of 509.33 kb and the longest contig measuring 7.74 Mb. The genome comprises approximately 73.47% highly repetitive sequences, of which 52.1% are long terminal repeat-retrotransposon sequences. A total of 29,172 protein-coding genes were predicted, of which 25,980 (89.06%) have been annotated, Additionally, 3452 non-coding RNAs were identified. Comparative genomic analysis revealed a close relationship between B. ramiflora and the Euphorbiaceae family, with both being sister groups that diverged approximately 59.9 million years ago. During the evolutionary process, B. ramiflora exhibited positive selection in 278 candidate genes. Synonymous substitution rate and collinearity analysis demonstrated that B. ramiflora underwent a single ancient genome-wide triploidization event, without recent genome-wide duplication events. Aim: To evaluate the performances of the various estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) equations of the Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration, the Berlin Initiative Study (BIS), and the Full Age Spectrum (FAS) in older Chinese., Methods: This study enrolled Chinese adults aged ≥ 65 years who underwent GFR measurements (via 99Tcm-DTPA renal dynamic imaging) in our hospital from 2011 to 2022. Using the measured glomerular filtration rate (mGFR) as the reference, we derived the bias, precision, accuracy, and consistency of each equation., Results: We enrolled 519 participants, comprising 155 with mGFR ≥ 60 mL/min/1.73 m 2 and 364 with mGFR < 60 mL/min/1.73 m 2 . In the total patients, the BIS equation based on creatinine and cystatin C (BIScr-cys) exhibited the lowest bias [median (95% confidence interval): 1.61 (0.77-2.18)], highest precision [interquartile range 11.82 (10.32-13.70)], highest accuracy (P30: 81.12%), and best consistency (95% limit of agreement: 101.5 mL/min/1.73 m 2 ). In the mGFR ≥ 60 mL/min/1.73 m 2 subgroup, the BIScr-cys and FAS equation based on creatinine and cystatin C (FAScr-cys) performed better than the other equations; in the mGFR < 60 mL/min/1.73 m 2 subgroup, all equations exhibited relatively large deviations from the mGFR. Of all eight equations, the BIScr-cys performed the best., Conclusions: Although no equation was fully accurate in the mGFR < 60 mL/min/1.73 m 2 subgroup, the BIScr-cys (of the eight equations) assessed the eGFRs of the entire population best. Tropane alkaloids (TAs), which are anticholinergic agents, are an essential class of natural compounds, and there is a growing demand for TAs with anesthetic, analgesic, and spasmolytic effects. Anisodus acutangulus (Solanaceae) is a TA-producing plant that was used as an anesthetic in ancient China. In this study, we assembled a high-quality, chromosome-scale genome of A. acutangulus with a contig N50 of 7.4 Mb. A recent whole-genome duplication occurred in A. acutangulus after its divergence from other Solanaceae species, which resulted in the duplication of ADC1 and UGT genes involved in TA biosynthesis. The catalytic activities of H6H enzymes were determined for three Solanaceae plants. On the basis of evolution and co-expressed genes, AaWRKY11 was selected for further analyses, which revealed that its encoded transcription factor promotes TA biosynthesis by activating AaH6H1 expression. These findings provide useful insights into genome evolution related to TA biosynthesis and have potential implications for genetic manipulation of TA-producing plants., (Copyright © 2023.
