High school students in over 50 schools across the United States have launched the Green New Deal for Schools campaign, organized by the youth-led organization Sunrise Movement. The campaign aims to require school districts to plan for climate disasters, incorporate climate education into the curriculum, transition school infrastructure to renewable energy sources, provide locally sourced free lunches, and create extreme-weather disaster plans. The Sunrise Movement is calling for a comprehensive climate-justice curriculum to be taught in schools and has introduced the Green New Deal for Public Schools Act in Congress, which has garnered support from 77 representatives.
