In order to improve the accuracy and performance of traditional image threshold segmentation algorithm, this paper proposes a multithreshold segmentation method named improved Harris hawk optimization (IMHHO). Firstly, IMHHO adopts Tent map and elite opposition-based learning to initialize population and enhance the diversity. Secondly, IMHHO uses quadratic interpolation to generate new individuals and enhance the local search ability. Finally, IMHHO adopts improved Gaussian disturbance method to disturb optimal solution, which coordinates the local and global search ability. Then, the performance of IMHHO is tested based on 14 benchmark functions. In image segmentation, different algorithms are tested to compare the comprehensive performance based on Otsu and Renyi entropy. Experiments show that IMHHO performs better in the three kinds of benchmark functions; the segmentation effect is directly proportional to the number of thresholds; compared with other algorithms, IMHHO has better comprehensive performance. We report on the Sm3+ and Sm3+:Yb3+-doped barium fluorotellurite glasses prepared using the conventional melting and quenching method. The spectroscopic characterisations were investigated with Raman and FTIR to evaluate the glasses' structural and hydroxyl (-OH) content. The Raman analysis revealed a structural modification in the glass network upon adding and increasing the Yb3+ concentration from a TeO3 trigonal pyramid to a TeO4 trigonal bi-pyramid polyhedral. At the same time, the FTIR measurements showed the existence of -OH groups in the glass. Thus, under the current experimental conditions and nominal composition, the -OH group contents are too large to enable an effective removal. The near-infrared region of the absorption spectra is employed to determine the nephelauxetic ratio and bonding parameters. The average nephelauxetic ratio decreases, and the bonding parameter increases with the increasing Yb3+ content in the glasses. A room temperature visible and near-infrared photoluminescence ranging from 500 to 1500 nm in wavelength and decay properties were investigated for glasses doped with Sm3+ and Sm3+-Yb3+ by exciting them with 450 and 980 nm laser sources. Exciting the Sm3+- and Sm3+-Yb3+-doped glasses by 450 nm excitation reveals a new series of photoluminescence emissions at 1200, 1293, and 1418 nm, corresponding to the 6F11/2 state to the 6HJ (J = 7/2, 9/2, 11/2) transitions. Under the 976 nm laser excitation, a broad photoluminescence emission from 980 to 1200 nm was detected. A decay lifetime decreased from ~244 to ~43 μs by increasing the Yb3+ content, ascribing to concentration quenching and the OH content. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Wastewater treatment has become a research hot issue in recent decade. Organic dyes as one of the main pollutants can change the water behavior. To deracinate the organic pollutants from wastewater, there are numerous methods have been taken into consideration. Photocatalysis is the promising strategy for the dye degradation with low cost, high efficiency, and environmental friendliness. Hence, a novel one‐dimensional (1D) magnetic Bi2Fe4O9/C@AgBr composite photocatalyst was prepared employing electrospinning, calcination, and deposition–precipitation methods. The morphology and composition of photocatalyst were characterized, as well as the photocatalytic activities of degrading methylene blue (MB) under visible light were investigated. And the results exhibited that the efficiency of Bi2Fe4O9/C@AgBr under visible light for 60 min is 97.4%. After three cycles, the degradation efficiency of MB could still reach 88.0%. Moreover, radical quenching experiment implicated superoxide radical anions as the primary active species responsible for photodegradation of MB. Introduction: Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is the leading cause of kidney failure worldwide. To explore the pathogenesis and effective biological target of DN is beneficial to seeking novel treatment strategies. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the role of the lncRNA Dlx6os1/SOX6/EZH2 axis in DN progression. Methods: PAS staining was performed to evaluate extracellular matrix accumulation; ELISA was carried out to assess the levels of urine microalbumin and blood glucose concentration; RT-qPCR was carried out to detect the levels of lncRNA Dlx6os1, TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, SOX6, and EZH2. Western blot was performed to assess the levels of Col-IV, FN, TGF-β1, and SOX6 proteins. RIP assay was carried out to verify the interaction between lncRNA Dlx6os1 and EZH2. ChIP-qPCR was conducted to verify the interaction between EZH2 and SOX6 promoter. Results: Our results illustrated that lncRNA Dlx6os1 was highly expressed in DN mice and HG-induced SV40 MES13 cells. LncRNA Dlx6os1 knockdown inhibited HG-induced SV40 MES13 cell proliferation, fibrosis, and inflammatory cytokine release. LncRNA Dlx6os1 inhibited SOX6 expression by recruiting EZH2 in HG-SV40 MES13 cells, and SOX6 mediated the effects of lncRNA Dlx6os1 on proliferation, fibrosis, and inflammatory factor release of HG-induced SV40 MES13 cells. This article discusses a case study of a male patient who presented with recurrent abdominal pain and was found to have a giant abdominal tumor caused by mesenteric fibromatosis. The patient underwent surgical excision of the tumor and a partial resection of the jejunum, resulting in a good recovery. Mesenteric fibromatosis is a rare subtype of desmoid fibromatosis that originates in the mesentery and is characterized by a clonal proliferative lesion of fibroblastic cells. Objective: Sexual dimorphism in human brain structure and behavior is influenced by exposure to sex hormones during critical developmental periods. In children, cancer and cancer treatments may alter hormone activity and brain development, impacting neurocognitive functions. Participants and Methods: Five-year survivors of childhood cancer (N=15,560) diagnosed at <21 years from 1970 to 1999, and 3,206 siblings from the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study completed the Neurocognitive Questionnaire (NCQ), a measure of self-reported task efficiency (TE), emotion regulation (ER), Organization, and working memory (WM). We compared rates of cognitive impairment (i.e., NCQ scores >90th percentile) in survivors and same-sex siblings, and sex differences in risk factors for cognitive impairment (i.e., treatment exposures, chronic health conditions (CHCs), cancer diagnosis, age at diagnosis) using modified Poisson regressions. Results: Survivors were more likely to report cognitive impairment than same-sex siblings (Males: TE OR=2.3, p<.001; ER OR=1.7, p=.008; Organization OR=1.5, p=.04; WM OR=2.3, p<.001. Females: TE OR=2.6, p<.001; ER OR=1.9, p<.001; Organization OR=1.5, p=.02; WM OR=2.6, p<.001). Within survivors, females were more likely than males to report impairment in TE (OR=1.2, p=.001), ER (OR=1.5, p<.001), and WM (OR=1.2, p<.001). There were no sex differences in symptom severity in siblings (all ps>.05). Risk factors for cognitive impairment in survivors included cranial radiation dose (TE <20Gy OR=1.5, p=.008, ≥20Gy OR=2.5, p<.001; ER OR=1.5, p<.001; Organization <20 Gy OR=1.4, p<.001; < WM 20 Gy OR=1.8, p<.001, ≥20Gy OR=2.7, p<.001), presence of moderate to severe CHCs (TE 1 CHC OR=1.9, p<.001, >1 CHC OR=3.6, p<.001; ER 1 CHC OR=1.7, p<.001, >1 CHC OR=2.2, p<.001; Organization 1 CHC OR=1.5, p=.001, >1 CHC OR=2.5, p<.001; WM 1 CHC OR=1.8, p<.001, >1 CHC OR=4.1, p<.001). There were sex differences in cognitive impairment risk factors in survivors. In females, cranial radiation dose (<20 Gy TE OR=1.6, p=.02; ≥20Gy TE OR=1.4, p=.01), leukemia diagnosis (TE OR=1.4, p=.02), or diagnosis age between 3-5 years (WM OR=1.4, p=.02) conferred higher risk for cognitive impairment compared to males with the same history. Females diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma (Organization OR=0.61, p=.05) or non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (Organization OR=0.55, p=.03) were at lower risk for cognitive impairment compared to males. Conclusions: We found sex-specific differences in rates of, and risk factors for, neurocognitive impairment, suggesting a sex vulnerability. Future studies examining interactions between sex hormones and treatment exposures during brain development will enable tailoring treatments follow-up interventions to ensure that quality of life is maximized. Background: The purpose was to assess the contribution of tumor size to the prognosis of patients with gastric cancer. Methods: Patient data were sourced from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results program (SEER) database. Cox proportional risk regression was performed to determine the prognostic role of tumor size. Kaplan-Meier curves were conducted to calculate survival curves. Consistency index (c-index) and subject exercise curve (ROC) were utilized to assess the predictive ability of each factor on the prognosis of gastric cancer. Results: Tumor size is preferable to other widely accepted prognostic clinical features in forecasting the survival of patients with gastric cancer. Background: Rhei Radix et Rhizoma (rhubarb), as one of the typical representatives of multi-effect traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs), has been utilized in the treatment of various diseases due to its multicomponent nature. However, there are few systematic investigations for the corresponding effect of individual components in rhubarb. Hence, we aimed to develop a novel strategy to fuzzily identify bioactive components for different efficacies of rhubarb by the back propagation (BP) neural network association analysis of ultra-performance liquid chromatography/quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry for every data (UPLC-Q-TOF/MSE) and integrated effects. Methods: Through applying the fuzzy chemical identification, most components of rhubarb were classified into different chemical groups. Meanwhile the integration effect values of different efficacies can be determined by animal experiment evaluation and multi-attribute comprehensive indexes. Then the BP neural network was employed for association analysis of components and different efficacies by correlating the component contents determined from UPLC-Q-TOF/MSE profiling and the integration effect values. Finally, the effect contribution of one type of components may be totaled to demonstrate the universal and individual characters for different efficacies of rhubarb. Results: It suggested that combined anthraquinones, flavanols and their polymers may be the universal character to the multi-functional properties of rhubarb. Other components contributed to the individuality of rhubarb efficacies, including stilbene glycosides, anthranones and their dimers, free anthraquinones, chromones, gallic acid and gallotannins, butyrylbenzenes and their glycosides. Conclusions: Our findings demonstrated that the bioactive components for different efficacies of rhubarb were not exactly the same and can be systematically differentiated by the network-oriented strategy. These efforts will advance our knowledge and understanding of the bioactive components in rhubarb and provide scientific evidence to support the expansion of its use in clinical applications and the further development of some products based on this medicinal herb. Two novel π-expanded triple [5]helicenes containing three dibenzocoronene monoimide subunits have been synthesized and characterized. The helicenes exhibit low-energy conformational interconversions, as supported by NMR spectra. The single-crystal X-ray analysis reveals a C1 conformation in the solid state. Drung cattle (Bos frontalis) have 58 chromosomes, differing from the Bos taurus 2n = 60 karyotype. To date, its origin and evolution history have not been proven conclusively, and the mechanisms of chromosome fusion and environmental adaptation have not been clearly elucidated. Here, we assembled a high integrity and good contiguity genome of Drung cattle with 13.7-fold contig N50 and 4.1-fold scaffold N50 improvements over the recently published Indian mithun assembly, respectively. Speciation time estimation and phylogenetic analysis showed that Drung cattle diverged from Bos taurus into an independent evolutionary clade. Sequence evidence of centromere regions provides clues to the breakpoints in BTA2 and BTA28 centromere satellites. We furthermore integrated a circulation and contraction-related biological process involving 43 evolutionary genes that participated in pathways associated with the evolution of the cardiovascular system. These findings may have important implications for understanding the molecular mechanisms of chromosome fusion, alpine valleys adaptability and cardiovascular function. Background: Engineering programs have increasingly incorporated design challenges into courses. These design challenges vary in the degree to which they present complex, ill‐structured, and relevant problems, and therefore may vary in the degree to which they support students to learn to frame design problems. Purpose/Hypothesis: We characterized how first‐year engineering students with little formal design training approach problem framing. We developed design challenges informed by funds of knowledge. We compared the development of problem framing skills in first‐year students who completed these challenges to students who completed more traditional challenges and to students in capstone design. Design/Method: Students completed a pre/post performance‐based assessment of problem framing skills. We analyzed student responses in terms of design requirements, design practices, and design styles. We used descriptive statistics and correlations to characterize how students initially approached problem framing and repeated‐measures ANOVA to compare groups of students. Results: First‐year students approached framing a design problem in one of four primary ways. Compared to students in the original course, they showed growth in attending to an underlying need, considering contexts of use, and depicting design function. Compared to capstone students, they also showed growth in considering stakeholder roles and planning the next steps. Conclusions: Funds of knowledge can provide a means to evaluate possible design challenges as authentic yet accessible for first‐year students, in turn, providing opportunities to support the development of the design problem framing ability. The Cathaysian Coastal Mountains are thought to be an ancient high‐topographic feature that existed along the margin of South China. They are characterised by extensive Jurassic–Cretaceous magmatism; however, their formation mechanism and timing remains uncertain. In this paper, we present sedimentological and detrital zircon analyses from Cretaceous–Eocene strata and drainage sediments from Hainan Island. Our analyses show a change in provenance from a proximal Cathaysian Coastal arc source in Cretaceous strata to a widely distributed intra‐island granite source in the Eocene strata and modern river sediments. Reconstruction of the crustal thickness evolution for the South China margin from Eu/Eu*‐in‐zircon proxy shows significant crustal thickening during the Late Jurassic–Cretaceous, thereby suggesting the existence of the Cathaysian Coastal Mountains. Together with a compilation of detrital zircon U‐Pb ages in the northern basins of the South China Sea margin, we conclude that the Cathaysian Coastal Mountains extended from the Red River region to Taiwan along the South China margin during the Late Jurassic–Cretaceous and then collapsed/eroded from northeast to southwest during the Eocene–Miocene. This large mountain range supplied detrital sediments to the marginal basins in the northern South China Sea and formed a topographic barrier that prohibited moist Pacific air to reach the relatively arid inland area of South China during the Late Jurassic–Cretaceous. Line drawing with colorization is a popular art format and tool for architectural illustration. The goal of this research is toward generating a high-quality and natural-looking colorization based on an architectural line drawing. This paper presents a new Generative Adversarial Network (GAN)-based method, named ArchGANs, including ArchColGAN and ArchShdGAN. ArchColGAN is a GAN-based line-feature-aware network for stylized colorization generation. ArchShdGAN is a lighting effects generation network, from which the building depiction in 3D can benefit. In particular, ArchColGAN is able to maintain the important line features and the correlation property of building parts as well as reduce the uneven colorization caused by sparse lines. Moreover, we proposed a color enhancement method to further improve ArchColGAN. Besides the single line drawing images, we also extend our method to handle line drawing image sequences and achieve rotation animation. In order to understand queueing performance given only partial information about the model, we propose determining intervals of likely values of performance measures given that limited information. We illustrate this approach for the mean steady-state waiting time in the $GI/GI/K$ queue. We start by specifying the first two moments of the interarrival-time and service-time distributions, and then consider additional information about these underlying distributions, in particular, a third moment and a Laplace transform value. As a theoretical basis, we apply extremal models yielding tight upper and lower bounds on the asymptotic decay rate of the steady-state waiting-time tail probability. We illustrate by constructing the theoretically justified intervals of values for the decay rate and the associated heuristically determined interval of values for the mean waiting times. Without extra information, the extremal models involve two-point distributions, which yield a wide range for the mean. Adding constraints on the third moment and a transform value produces three-point extremal distributions, which significantly reduce the range, producing practical levels of accuracy. The loss of cold air from the blade edge plates of the turbine has a negative impact on engine performance and safety. Using an experimental method, this paper investigates the effect of geometric and aerodynamic parameters on cold air leakage through pressure and mass flow measurements. Based on the results, it can be concluded that, with a change in sheet spacing, the proportion of bypass leakage and clearance leakage changes. At the same sheet spacing, the edge plate clearance is increased from 1 mm to 1.1 mm, resulting in a 30% increase of total leakage and a 25.7% increase of leakage equivalent mass flow. The edge plate clearance was increased from 1.1 mm to 1.2 mm, the total leakage increased by 19.2%, and the equivalent mass flow of leakage was 19%. The proportion of clearance leakage in the total leakage increased gradually for a given edge plate clearance. When the sheet spacing was 1 mm, bypass leakage accounted for 68% of the total leakage and was the primary source of leakage. The clearance leakage accounted for 83% of the total leakage with a plate spacing of 10 mm. When the sheet spacing is small, bypass leakage dominates; when it is large, clearance leakage dominates. The variation law of leakage with pressure, structural parameters and the ratio of sheet spacing to sealing slot length play an important role in the design of sealing structures. New particle formation (NPF) is the primary source of nanoparticles and contributes a large number of concentrations of cloud condensation nuclei. In recent years, field campaigns and laboratory experiments have been conducted to promote cognition of the mechanism for NPF and its following growth processes. The chemical composition measurement of nanoparticles could help deepen understanding of the initial step of particulate matter formation. In this work, we developed a nanoparticle chemical ionization mass spectrometer to measure nanoparticles' chemical compositions during their initial growth stage. Meanwhile, a non-radioactive ion source was designed for aerosol charging and chemical ionization. Time of flight mass spectrometer coupled with integrated aerosol size selection and collection module would guarantee the picogram level detection limit and high-resolution ability to measure the matrix of ambient samples. The performance of this equipment was overall evaluated, including the transmission efficiency and collection efficiency of custom-built nano differential mobility analyzer, chemical ionization efficiency, and mass resolution of the mass spectrometer. The high sensitivity measurement of ammonium sulfate and methylammonium sulfate aerosols with diameters ranging from 10 to 25 nm could guarantee the application of this instrument in the ambient measurement. Aberrant 5-methylcytidine (m5C) modification plays an essential role in the progression of different cancers. More and more researchers are focusing on developing a lncRNA-based risk model to assess the clinical prognosis of cancer patients. However, the impact of m5C-related lncRNAs on the prognosis of patients with uterine corpus endometrial carcinoma (UCEC), as well as the immune microenvironment of UCEC, remains unclear. Here, we comprehensively analyzed the predictive value of m5C-associated lncRNAs in UCEC and their association with the tumor immune microenvironment, according to the information extracted from the TCGA-UCEC dataset. We identified a total of 32 m5C-associated lncRNAs that were significantly correlated with the prognosis of UCEC patients. Two molecular subtypes were determined by consensus clustering analysis of these 32 m5C-associated prognostic lncRNAs. Further data showed that cluster 1 was associated with poor clinical prognosis, advanced tumor grade, higher PD-L1 expression levels, higher ESTIMATEScore, and higher immuneScore, as well as the immune cell infiltration. Then, 17 m5C-associated lncRNAs with prognostic values were obtained using LASSO regression analysis. And a risk model was constructed based on these 17 lncRNAs. It was revealed that the risk model could be used as an independent factor for UCEC prognosis. In addition, patients with UCEC in the high-risk group had higher tumor grades and immune scores. The risk model based on m5C-related lncRNAs was also closely associated with infiltrating immune cells. In conclusion, our study elucidated the crucial roles of the identified m5C-related lncRNAs in the UCEC patients' prognoses, as well as in the immune microenvironment in UCEC. Background: Neuroblastoma (NB) is a common extracranial malignancy with high mortality in children. Recently, super-enhancers (SEs) have been reported to play a critical role in the tumorigenesis and development of NB via regulating a wide range of oncogenes Thus, the synthesis and identification of chemical inhibitors specifically targeting SEs are of great urgency for the clinical therapy of NB. This study aimed to characterize the activity of the SEs inhibitor GNE987, which targets BRD4, in NB. Results: In this study, we found that nanomolar concentrations of GNE987 markedly diminished NB cell proliferation and survival via degrading BRD4. Meanwhile, GNE987 significantly induced NB cell apoptosis and cell cycle arrest. Consistent with in vitro results, GNE987 administration (0.25 mg/kg) markedly decreased the tumor size in the xenograft model, with less toxicity, and induced similar BRD4 protein degradation to that observed in vitro. Mechanically, GNE987 led to significant downregulation of hallmark genes associated with MYC and the global disruption of the SEs landscape in NB cells. Moreover, a novel candidate oncogenic transcript, FAM163A, was identified through analysis of the RNA-seq and ChIP-seq data. FAM163A is abnormally transcribed by SEs, playing an important role in NB occurrence and development. Numerous molecular regulatory mechanisms are involved in the formation of mammalian oocytes, but many of their key proteins and molecules remain unknown. GPR50, the lone G protein-coupled receptor located in the X chromosome, is one of the superfamily members of the G protein-coupled receptor. GPR50 has been recently proved to play an important role in various physiological activities. However, the role of GPR50 in reproduction is currently unclear. In our previous research, we proved that the GPR50 receptor is present in yak oocytes. In the present study, the expression level and subcellular localization of GPR50 in the in vitro maturation process of yak oocytes were investigated to explore further its role in the maturation of yak oocytes. In the germinal vesicle (GV) stage, GPR50 was expressed and positioned in the cell membrane. By comparison, in the metaphase II (MII) stage, GPR50 had the highest expression level and was highly diffused in the cytoplasm. On the basis of these observations, the knockdown and overexpression of GPR50 yak oocyte models were constructed. Results showed that the expression level of GPR50 knockdown significantly reduced the excretion rate and maturity level of the yak oocyte PB1 (P < 0.01). However, the expression level of GPR50 overexpression exerted no significant influence on the excretion rate and maturity level of the yak oocytes (P > 0.05). Background: Axillary vein/subclavian vein (AxV/SCV) and Internal jugular vein (IJV) are commonly used for implantable venous access port (IVAP) implantation in breast cancer patients for chemotherapy. Previous research focused on comparison of complications while patient comfort was ignored. This study aims to compare patient comfort, surgery duration and complications of IVAP implantation between IJV and AxV/SCV approaches.Methods: Two hundred forty-eight breast cancer patients were enrolled in this randomized controlled study from August 2020 to June 2021. Patients scheduled to undergo IVAP implantation were randomly and equally assigned to receive central venous catheters with either AxV /SCV or IJV approaches. All patients received comfort assessment using a comfort scale table at day 1, day 2 and day 7 after implantation. Patient comfort, procedure time of operation as well as early complications were compared.Results: Patient comfort was significantly better in the AxV/SCV group than that of IJV group in day 1 (P < 0.001), day 2 (P < 0.001) and day 7(P = 0.023). Procedure duration in AxV/SCV group was slightly but significantly shorter than IJV group (27.14 ± 3.29 mins vs 28.92 ± 2.54 mins, P < 0.001). More early complications occurred in AxV/SCV group than IJV group (11/124 vs 2/124, P = 0.019). No difference of complications of artery puncture, pneumothorax or subcutaneous hematoma between these two groups but significantly more catheter misplacement in AxV/SCV group than IJV group (6/124 vs 0/124, P = 0.029). Absolutely total risk of complications was rather low in both groups (8.87% in AxV/SCV group and 1.61% in IJV group).Conclusions: Our study indicates that patients with AxV/SCV puncture have higher comfort levels than IJV puncture. AxV/SCV puncture has shorter procedure duration but higher risk of early complications, especially catheter misplacement. Both these two approaches have rather low risk of complications. Secondary hematite (SH) is a serious factor resulting in reduction degradation of iron ore sinter in a blast furnace; however, until now, a quantitative study for SH formation had not been reported. In this work, the effects of gangue composition, including MgO, Al2O3 and SiO2, on the solid-state formation in the sintering process of iron ore fines were investigated quantitatively. It shows that the SH formation decreased from 67.84% to 46.11%, 35.44% and 22.37% after adding 1.0%, 3.0% and 5.0% MgO, respectively, while for Al2O3, the amount increased to 69.38%, 69.98% and 70.56%, respectively. For SiO2, the amount changed to 68.14%, 61.59% and 47.96%, respectively. Simultaneously, the magnetite (magnesioferrite) formation increased from 8.24% to 34.79%, 50.26% and 70.45% after adding 1.0%, 3.0% and 5.0% MgO, respectively. For Al2O3 and SiO2, the amount changed to 8.95%, 8.37%, 7.62% and 7.62%, 11.10%, 18.77%, respectively, compared with no gangue. This indicates that the SH formation increased with decrease in magnesioferrite. It was found that the decrease in SH formation relates to the diffusion of Mg2+ in magnesioferrite, which inhibits the solid-state formation of SH kinetically. A supposition was suggested that a maghemite existed at a high temperature, and decreased with an increase in MgO addition. Several physical processes can conspire to generate avalanches in materials. Such processes include avalanche mechanisms like dislocation movements, friction processes by pinning magnetic domain walls, moving dislocation tangles, hole collapse in porous materials, collisions of ferroelectric and ferroelastic domain boundaries, kinks in interfaces, and many more. Known methods to distinguish between these species which allow the physical identification of multiavalanche processes are reviewed. A new approach where the scaling relationship between the avalanche energies E and amplitudes A is considered is then described. Avalanches with single mechanisms scale experimentally as E = SiAi2. The energy E reflects the duration D of the avalanche and A(t), the temporal amplitude. The scaling prefactor S depends explicitly on the duration of the avalanche and on details of the avalanche profiles. It is reported that S is not a universal constant but assumes different values depending on the avalanche mechanism. If avalanches coincide, they can still show multivalued scaling between E and A with different S‐values for each branch. Examples for this multibranching effect in low‐Ni 316L stainless steel, 316L stainless steel, polycrystalline Ni, TC21 titanium alloy, and a Fe40Mn40Co10Cr10 high‐entropy alloy are shown. Coiled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have attracted much attention thanks to their unique geometrical structure along with outstanding mechanical and thermal properties. However, the relationship between the geometrical parameters and mechanical and thermal properties of coiled CNTs remains largely unexplored. Herein, coiled CNTs are constructed with various geometries by phase‐field crystal (PFC) modeling and their mechanical and thermal properties are investigated by molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. It is found that the effect of geometrical parameters of coiled CNTs on the Young's modulus can be well captured by analytical formulas derived from the mechanical spring tube model. These extensive MD simulations show that the Young's modulus of coiled CNTs increases with an increase in coil pitch l and CNT radius r, but decreases with an increase in coil radius R. Furthermore, using the nonequilibrium MD (NEMD) method, it is found that the thermal conductivity of coiled CNTs decreases with an increase in coil radius R, but increases slightly with an increase of coil pitch l and CNT radius r. Valuable insights into the mechanical and thermal properties of coiled CNTs are provided and the findings here may serve as useful guidelines for the design of coiled CNTs for device applications. Manual proteomic sample preparation methods limit sample throughput and often lead to poor data quality when thousands of samples must be analyzed. Automated liquid handler systems are increasingly used to overcome these issues for many of the sample preparation steps. Here, we detail a step-by-step protocol to prepare samples for bottom-up proteomic analysis for Gram-negative bacterial and fungal cells. The full modular protocol consists of three optimized protocols to: (A) lyse Gram-negative bacteria and fungal cells; (B) quantify the amount of protein extracted; and (C) normalize the amount of protein and set up tryptic digestion. These protocols have been developed to facilitate rapid, low variance sample preparation of hundreds of samples, be easily implemented on widely-available Beckman-Coulter Biomek automated liquid handlers, and allow flexibility for future protocol development. By using this workflow 50 micrograms of protein from 96 samples can be prepared for tryptic digestion in under an hour. We validate these protocols by analyzing 47 Pseudomonas putida and Rhodosporidium toruloides samples and show that this modular workflow provides robust, reproducible proteomic samples for high-throughput applications. The expected results from these protocols are 94 peptide samples from Gram-negative bacterial and fungal cells prepared for bottom-up quantitative proteomic analysis without the need for desalting column cleanup and with protein relative quantity variance (CV%) below 15%. Much of the work in alpha NFT has focused on evaluating changes in alpha amplitude. However, the generation mechanism of training-induced alpha activity has not yet been clarified. The present study aimed to identify sources of training-induced alpha activity through four temporal/spectral analytic techniques, i.e., the max peak average (MPA), positive average (PA), negative average (NA) and event-related spectral perturbation average (ERSPA) methods. Thirty-five healthy participants were recruited into an alpha group receiving feedback of 8–12-Hz amplitudes, and twenty-eight healthy participants were recruited into a control group receiving feedback of random 4-Hz amplitudes from the range of 7 to 20 Hz. Twelve sessions were performed within 4 weeks (3 sessions per week). The control group had no change in the amplitude spectrum. In contrast, twenty-nine participants in the alpha group showed significant alpha amplitude increases exclusively and were identified as "responders". A whole-head EEG was recorded for the "responders" after NFT. The epochs of training-induced alpha activity from whole-head EEG were averaged by four different methods for equivalent current dipole source analysis. High agreement and Cohen's kappa coefficients on dipole source localization between each method were observed, showing that the dipole clusters of training-induced alpha activity were consistently located in the precuneus, posterior cingulate cortex (PCC) and middle temporal gyrus. The residual variance (goodness of fit) for dipole estimation of the MPA was significantly smaller than that of the others. Our findings indicate that the precuneus, PCC and middle temporal gyrus play important roles in enhancing training-induced alpha activity. The four averaging methods (especially the MPA method) were suitable for investigating sources of brainwaves. Additionally, three dipoles can be used for dipole source analysis of training-induced alpha activity in future research, especially the training sites are around the central regions. Objective. We aim to evaluate the clinical effect of combined topical 20% autologous serum eye drops (ASEs) along with silicone–hydrogel soft contact lenses (SCLs) in the treatment of chemical burn-induced bilateral corneal persistent epithelial defects (PEDs) and to review the literature of related studies. Methods. From January 1, 2017, to December 31, 2019, we conducted a retrospective chart review of 8 patients with chemical burn-induced bilateral corneal PEDs who were unsuccessfully treated with conventional medical therapy and were then treated with combined topical 20% (v/v) ASEs and silicone–hydrogel CLs. The clinical effects and effectiveness of the combined treatment were evaluated. Results. The bilateral corneal PEDs healed in all sixteen eyes of the eight patients within 2 weeks. The patients did not report any discomfort associated with the combined treatment. Improved ocular comfort/visual acuity and decreased conjunctival injection correlated with healing. No recurrent corneal epithelial breakdown was noted during the 3-month posttreatment follow-up. Conclusions. The combined treatment of silicone–hydrogel CLs and ASEs can help to stabilize the ocular surface and successfully treat chemical burn-induced bilateral corneal PEDs. Background: Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) has been increasingly used to treat patients with biliary/pancreatic duct obstruction or stricture outside the operating room. Effective and safe sedation techniques are needed because of painful stimuli and the long duration of the ERCP procedure.Nalbuphine has been shown to cause less respiratory depression during sedation than similar cases without nalbuphine. This study compared the effects of propofol-nalbuphine (PN) and propofol-fentanyl (PF) sedation in patients undergoing ERCP. Methods: Four hundred patients scheduled for ERCP procedures were divided into two groups: the PF group (receiving PF sedation,n = 199) and the PN group (receiving PN sedation,n = 201). Vital signs, adverse events during surgery, patient movement scores, pain scores, and adverse events one day post-ERCP were recorded. Results: Stable haemodynamics were observed in both groups.Compared to the PF group, the PN group showed significantly decreased respiratory depression (P < 0.0001) and surgical interruptions (P = 0.048).Nalbuphine decreased patient movement by reducing pain from ERCP. Conclusion: Nalbuphine, instead of fentanyl, precipitated less respiratory depression while permitting adequate/equivalent sedation for ERCP and therefore provides more efficient and safer sedation. [Display omitted] • CAL and PPy-CAL were prepared using hydrothermal and in situ polymerization methods. • The theoretical adsorption capacity of CAL-PPy for Cr(VI) was nearly twice than that of CAL. • CAL-PPy removed 100 mg/L of aqueous Cr(VI) efficiently and quickly. • Mechanisms included electrostatic attraction, anion exchange, complexation, and reduction. To efficiently remove high concentrations of hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)), calcium–aluminum-layered double hydroxide (CaAl-LDH, denoted as CAL), and polypyrrole-modified CAL (CAL-PPy) were prepared by hydrothermal and in situ polymerization methods, respectively. The chemical structure, morphology, and elemental results indicated that the chain-like polypyrrole was decorated with hexagonal CAL. The specific surface area of CAL-PPy increased from 8.746 m2/g to 24.24 m2/g. The adsorption performances of CAL and CAL-PPy for aqueous Cr(VI) were investigated using batch equilibrium experiments. The decontamination process of aqueous Cr(VI) (100 mg/L) reached the equilibrium state within 50 min, and the kinetic data met the pseudo-second-order kinetic equation. The Langmuir model described the isothermal data properly, and the obtained theoretical adsorption capacity of CAL for Cr(VI) at 318 K was 34.06 mg/g, while that of CAL-PPy was 66.14 mg/g. The removal mechanisms involved electrostatic attraction, surface complexation, anion exchange, and reduction to low-toxicity Cr(III). Due to the scarcity of blue color in the natural food palette, synthetic blue edible colorants are commonly used in daily life. With growing awareness of environmental hazards and potential side‐effect impacts of synthetic food colorants on customers' health, synthetic blue edible colorants are no longer a good choice. Here, a strategy of mixing two edible sub‐microspheres, mesoporous hollow TiO2 sub‐microspheres or SiO2 sub‐microspheres and cuttlefish ink particles, is reported to produce mass amorphous photonic structures (APSs) with structural color. The hues can be tuned by controlling the size of mesoporous hollow TiO2 sub‐microspheres, and the saturation is strongly related to the proportion of cuttlefish ink particles. Cytotoxicity assays and evaluation of bioaccessibility in the simulated human digestive system further prove the safety of the blue structural colorants. Background: Interferon regulatory factor 2 (IRF-2) acts as an anti-oncogene in gastric cancer (GC); however, the underlying mechanism remains unknown.Methods: This study determined the expression of IRF-2 in GC tissues and adjacent non-tumor tissues using immunohistochemistry (IHC) and explored the predictive value of IRF-2 for the prognoses of GC patients. Cell function and xenograft tumor growth experiments in nude mice were performed to test tumor proliferation ability, both in vitro and in vivo. Chromatin immunoprecipitation sequencing (ChIP-Seq) assay was used to verify the direct target of IRF-2.Results: We found that IRF-2 expression was downregulated in GC tissues and was negatively correlated with the prognoses of GC patients. IRF-2 negatively affected GC cell proliferation both in vitro and in vivo. ChIP-Seq assay showed that IRF-2 could directly activate AMER-1 transcription and regulate the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway, which was validated using IHC, in both tissue microarray and xenografted tumor tissues, western blot analysis, and cell function experiments.Conclusions: Increased expression of IRF-2 can inhibit tumor growth and affect the prognoses of patients by directly regulating AMER-1 transcription in GC and inhibiting the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been demonstrated to play crucial roles in the development and progression of many diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis (RA). However, the functions and molecular mechanism of circ_0008360 in RA remain unclear. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was employed to determine the expression of circ_0008360, microRNA-135b-5p (miR-135b-5p), and histone deacetylase 4 (HDAC4). Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assay, wound healing assay, and flow cytometry analysis were performed to assess cell proliferation, migration, and apoptosis, respectively. Inflammatory response was evaluated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The interaction between miR-135b-5p and circ_0008360 or HDAC4 was predicted by bioinformatics analysis and verified by dual-luciferase reporter and RNA Immunoprecipitation (RIP) and RNA pull-down assays. Western blot assay was used to detect the protein expression of HDAC4 and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA). The expression of circ_0008360 was downregulated in RA synovial tissues and RA fibroblast-like synoviocytes (RA-FLSs). Circ_0008360 suppressed the proliferation, migration, and inflammation and promoted apoptosis of RA-FLSs, and circ_0008360 knockdown showed opposite effects. Moreover, miR-135b-5p was a direct target of circ_0008360, and miR-135b-5p could reverse the effects of circ_0008360 on proliferation, migration, inflammation, and apoptosis in RA-FLSs. Furthermore, HDAC4 was a downstream target of miR-135b-5p, and miR-135b-5p accelerated the proliferation, migration, and inflammation and suppressed apoptosis of RA-FLSs by targeting HDAC4. In addition, circ_0008360 positively regulated HDAC4 expression by sponging miR-135b-5p. Circ_0008360 inhibited the proliferation, migration, and inflammation and facilitated apoptosis of RA-FLSs by sponging miR-135b-5p and upregulating HDAC4, providing a potential target for prevention and treatment of RA. O -GlcNAcylation is a post-translational modification that links metabolism with signal transduction. High O -GlcNAcylation appears to be a general characteristic of cancer cells. It promotes the invasion, metastasis, proliferation and survival of tumor cells, and alters many metabolic pathways. Glycogen metabolism increases in a wide variety of tumors, suggesting that it is an important aspect of cancer pathophysiology. Herein we focused on the O -GlcNAcylation of liver glycogen phosphorylase (PYGL)—an important catabolism enzyme in the glycogen metabolism pathway. PYGL expressed in both HEK 293T and HCT116 was modified by O -GlcNAc. And both PYGL O -GlcNAcylation and phosphorylation of Ser15 (pSer15) were decreased under glucose and insulin, whereas increased under glucagon and Na2S2O4 (hypoxia) conditions. Then, we identified the major O -GlcNAcylation site to be Ser430, and demonstrated that pSer15 and Ser430 O -GlcNAcylation were mutually reinforced. Lastly, we found that Ser430 O -GlcNAcylation was fundamental for PYGL activity. Thus, O -GlcNAcylation of PYGL positively regulated pSer15 and therefore its enzymatic activity. Purpose: This paper propose an algorithm for the multiple silicon steel coils multiperiod two-dimensional lengthwise cutting stock problem (m2DLCSP), so as to minimize the total cost of materials and production. Design/methodology/approach: The authors propose a sequential leftovers utilization correction (SLUC) algorithm for the m2DLCSP. The algorithm primarily considers three optimization strategies. First, it considers usable leftovers to simplify the cutting process and improve material utilization. The total quantity and types of leftovers should be limited in order to avoid leftover overstock. Second, it uses a splice method of items to improve the generated cutting plan. Third, it takes into account operational restrictions in the cutting operations. Operational restrictions include imposing maximum and minimum lengths on the cutting patterns, and the limitation of cutting knives at the slitting machines. Findings: Several sets of benchmark with real-world and randomly generated instances are provided to evaluate the algorithm. Compared with literature algorithm and current procedure applied in enterprises, the computational results indicate that proposed algorithm can effectively reduce the total cost, and the computation time is reasonable for practical use. Social implications: This algorithm can effectively reduce the total cost. Metallic glasses (MGs) constitute an emerging class of advanced structural materials due to their excellent mechanical properties. However, brittle failure at room temperature and the resultant complicated fracture behavior greatly limit their wide engineering applications. Over the past decades, the deformation and fracture in ductile or brittle mode referring to material compositions, load conditions, sample size, etc., have been widely studied, and significant progress has been made in understanding the failure behavior of MGs. Micromechanisms of fracture have been revealed involving shear banding, cavitation and the nature of the crack tip field. The ductile-to-brittle transition and inherent governing parameters have been found. To well describe and predict the failure behavior of MGs, failure criteria for ductile and brittle MGs have been established empirically or based on atomic interactions. While university change initiatives have become more common in the face of changing learner needs and higher education funding, many fail to produce desired effects, even when guided by organizational change models. The purpose of this study was to document a successful change process in an engineering department at a Hispanic-serving institution in the southwestern United States. The change effort focused on enhancing faculty capacity to support diverse student success. The change process was planned using Kotter's eight-step change model (1996) and was therefore a prescribed, linear, sequential change process. Qualitative analysis of audio-recorded faculty interviews and meetings, artifacts, field notes, and participant observation highlights how Kotter's change model was implemented iteratively and emergently. Early steps were revisited and strategies were treated as improvable. This approach enhanced faculty buy-in and project success. Although cisplatin is the most active drug for the treatment of ovarian cancer, majority of patients develop resistance and ultimately relapse. Enhancing the efficacy of cisplatin could represent a promising strategy to improve the clinical outcome of patients with ovarian cancer. AT7519 is a multitargeted cyclin‐dependent kinase (CDK) inhibitor and displays potent anticancer activities. In this work, we show that the combination of AT7519 with cisplatin is much more superior to cisplatin alone in inhibiting ovarian cancer. AT7519 at nanomolar concentrations inhibits proliferation and migration and induces apoptosis of multiple ovarian cancer cell lines. In contrast, AT7519 at the same concentrations either does not affect survival or is significantly less effective in inhibiting proliferation and migration in normal ovarian cells and fibroblast cells. AT7519 significantly augments the inhibitory effects of cisplatin in ovarian cancer cells in a dose‐dependent manner. Mechanistic studies suggest that AT7519 (i) inhibits proliferation via decreasing activities of CDK1 and 2, and via inhibiting RNA transcription; (ii) inhibits migration via suppressing epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT); and (iii) induces apoptosis via decreasing Mcl‐1 and increasing Bim in ovarian cancer cells. Using a human ovarian cancer xenograft mouse model, we confirm the in vivo efficacy of AT7519 alone, and the synergistic effects of AT7519 and cisplatin in combination, at doses that cause minimal toxicity in mice. Our findings provide systematic preclinical evidence to support the initialization of clinical trials of the AT7519 and cisplatin combination for the treatment of ovarian cancer. Abnormal telomerase activity plays a key role in the development of carcinogenesis. The variants rs2736100 and rs2736098 of the telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) gene, which encodes the telomerase catalytic subunit, are associated with the risk of different types of cancers. However, the results remain controversy. We conducted a meta-analysis to more precisely assess this association. We comprehensively searched the PubMed and Web of Science databases up to June 1, 2020, and retrieved a total of 103 studies in 82 articles, including 89,320 cases and 121,654 controls. Among these studies, 69 published studies including 75,274 cases and 10,3248 controls were focused on rs2736100, and 34 published studies including 14,046 cases and 18,362 controls were focused on rs2736098. The results showed a strong association between variant rs2736100 and cancer risk in all populations. (G vs. T: OR 1.18, 95% CI 1.12–1.24; TG+GG vs. TT: OR 1.23, 95% CI 1.15–1.31; GG vs. TG+TT: OR 1.25, 95% CI 1.16–1.36); the variant rs2736098 was associated with cancer risk in all populations as well (A vs. G: OR 1.13, 95% CI 1.05–1.22; GA+AA vs. GG: OR 1.15, 95% CI 1.04–1.27; AA vs. GA+GG: OR 1.22, 95% CI 1.10–1.38). Stratified analysis based on the cancer type indicated that rs2736100 was associated with an increased risk of thyroid cancer, bladder cancer, lung cancer, glioma, and myeloproliferative neoplasms. rs2736098 only increased the risk of bladder cancer and lung cancer. Moreover, the TERT variants rs2736100 and rs2736098 were associated with a decreased risk of breast cancer and colorectal cancer. The variants rs2736098 and rs2736100 located in 5p15.33 around TERT were associated with increased cancer risk in all populations. These two variants had bidirectional effects in different tumors. Several microRNAs (miRNAs) and circular RNAs (circRNAs) were reported to be involved in the Docetaxel (DTX) chemoresistance of cancer treatment, but the underlying mechanisms remain to be explored. In this study, we established cellular and animal models respectively to study the effect and underlying molecular mechanisms of the dysregulation of circRNA_0006404 and circRNA_0000735 in tumor response to DTX treatment. Quantitative real-time PCR was performed to measure the expression of circRNA_0006404, miR-346, circRNA_0000735, miR-526b, Dickkopf-related protein 3 (DKK3), and Dickkopf-related protein 4 (DKK4) mRNA. The expression of circRNA_0006404 and circRNA_0000735 was remarkably suppressed and activated in DTX-treated SKOV3-R cell lines, respectively. As revealed by luciferase assays, circRNA_0006404 and circRNA_0000735 was found to be respectively targeted by miR-346 and miR-526b, while DKK3 and DKK4 were respectively targeted by miR-346 and miR-526b. Moreover, the expression of DKK3 and DKK4, which were targets of miR-346 and miR-526b, respectively, was significantly altered along with the expression of p-GP. Furthermore, circ_0006404 shRNA and circRNA_0000735 shRNA showed remarkable efficiency in stimulating the expression of circRNA_0006404, miR-346, DKK3, circRNA_0000735, miR-526b, DKK4, and p-GP in cellular and animal models. Accordingly, the cell apoptosis and proliferation were apparently changed by circ_0006404 shRNA and circRNA_0000735 shRNA in both cellular and animal models. In summary, our study found the involvement of the circRNA_0006404/miR-346/DKK3/p-GP and circRNA_0000735/miR-546b/DKK4/p-GP axis in the tumor response to DTX. Both the up-regulation of circRNA_0006404 and down-regulation of circRNA_0000735 could inhibit the expression of p-GP in vivo and ex vivo, leading to the suppressed tumor response to DTX treatment. This communication realizes high-resolution imaging simulations of typical planetary landforms, such as craters, hills, and volcanoes, by using parametric scattering center (SC) models. Based on the geometric models of these typical landforms, parametric SC models are constructed from scattered solutions of the physical optics (POs) method. Because the SC models take geometric parameters as model parameters, these models can simulate the scattered waves of landforms of different sizes. These SC models are validated by the PO results. In addition, the landform types can be recognized and their geometrical parameters are further extracted by SC model matching. The extracted geometric parameters show good agreement with real landforms, demonstrating that the SC models of typical planetary landforms have potential applications in planetary geomorphologic exploration. Background. Golden plaster is the preferred and most commonly used in China for pain reduction in patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA). However, there was no evidence-based medical evidence about its effect in relieving pain of knee OA patients. Here, a multicenter randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was performed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of golden plaster for the improvement of pain relief and function's obstacle in patients with knee OA. Methods. 320 patients with knee OA were enrolled at four hospitals and randomly divided into the treatment group and the control group with 160 subjects in each group. Patients in treatment group were treated with golden plaster, and those in control group with placebo plaster. The study cycle in both groups was 21 days. Patient visits were documented before treatment and 7-, 14-, and 21-day follow-ups after treatment. The outcomes included VAS score, WOMAC score, and adverse events. Results. Compared to the control group, the VAS score in the treatment group was significantly decreased after treatment with golden plaster for 7 days, 14 days, and 21 days. Compared to the control group, the WOMAC score in the treatment group was significantly decreased 14 days and 21 days. The incidence rate of adverse events had no statistical difference between both the groups. Conclusions. In conclusion, our study, for the first time by carrying on the double-blind and placebo-controlled randomized trial, showed that golden plaster can effectively alleviate the pain of knee and improve the physical function in the patients with knee OA. Objectives: Typically, prognostic capability of gene expression profiling (GEP) is studied in the context of clinical trials, for which 50%‐80% of patients are not eligible, possibly limiting the generalizability of findings to routine practice. Here, we evaluate GEP analysis outside clinical trials, aiming to improve clinical risk assessment of multiple myeloma (MM) patients. Methods: A total of 155 bone marrow samples from MM patients were collected from which RNA was analyzed by microarray. Sixteen previously developed GEP‐based markers were evaluated, combined with survival data, and studied using Cox proportional hazard regression. Results: Gene expression profiling‐based markers SKY92 and the PR‐cluster were shown to be independent prognostic factors for survival, with hazard ratios and 95% confidence interval of 3.6 [2.0‐6.8] (P <.001) and 5.8 [2.7‐12.7] (P <.01) for overall survival (OS). A multivariate model proved only SKY92 and the PR‐cluster to be independent prognostic factors compared to cytogenetic high‐risk patients, the International Staging System (ISS), and revised ISS. A substantial number of high‐risk individuals could be further identified when SKY92 was added to the cytogenetic, ISS, or R‐ISS. In the cytogenetic standard‐risk group, ISS I/II, and R‐ISS I/II, 13%, 23%, and 23% of patients with adverse survivals were identified. Conclusions: For the first time, this study confirmed the prognostic value of GEP markers outside clinical trials. • CircCUL3 overexpression drives cervical cancer progression. • CircCUL3 acts as a sponge for miR-223-3p to upregulate ATG7 and activate autophagy. • Chloroquine reverses circCUL3-induced effects by restoring miR-223-3p expression. Circular RNA (circRNA) has emerged as a pivotal regulatory factor in cancer biology, yet its exact role in cervical cancer remains incompletely understood. In this study, we investigated the functional role of circCUL3 in cervical cancer and explored its potential as a therapeutic target. Functional gain and loss experiments were conducted in Hela and Siha cell lines to elucidate the biological functions of circCUL3 in cervical cancer. The results revealed that circCUL3 overexpression significantly enhanced cell viability, migration, and invasion while suppressing apoptosis, while circCUL3 knockout displayed the opposite effects. Mechanistically, we identified hsa-miR-223-3p as a target of circCUL3, with its expression being negatively regulated by circCUL3. Furthermore, we discovered that circCUL3 could sequester miR-223-3p, leading to the upregulation of ATG7 expression, and this was linked to the regulation of autophagy in cervical cancer cells. In vivo validation using a xenograft mouse model further supported our in vitro findings. Notably, we found that chloroquine (CQ), an autophagy inhibitor, restored miR-223-3p expression and counteracted the oncogenic effect of circCUL3 overexpression. In conclusion, circCUL3 potentially contributes to the malignant progression of cervical cancer by acting as a sponge for miR-223-3p, resulting in the upregulation of ATG7 and the activation of autophagy. Fossil fuel consumption is a major source of greenhouse gas emissions. The Russia–Ukraine conflict has led to energy price volatility. Therefore, affordable energy poses a significant threat. The development of renewable energy to meet consumption demands has attracted researchers' attention in worldwide. In this study, a novel grey adaptive integrated model is proposed to balance the fitting and generalization abilities for renewable energy generation trends. First, feature selection was performed using the mutual information filter method for influencing factors and the wrapper method. Second, FGM(1,1) was used to mine the data features, and AGMC(1,n) was used to extract multivariate time-series relationships. Finally, an adaptive integrated model with a Gaussian kernel function was proposed in order to assign weights. It balances the results of the two forecasting models to avoid the underfitting/overfitting problem generated by excessive data volatility and the abrupt shift of the influencing factors. The study results have shown that the proposed integrated model solved the underfitting and overfitting problems to a certain degree. Its performance is better than single model. This study presents a novel approach utilizing a simple, stable, reproducible CV (Cyclic Voltammetry) electrodeposition method to deposit varying amounts of ZnO onto ordered TiO 2 (Rutile) nanorod arrays. Comprehensive investigations were conducted on the morphology, semiconductor band-gap structure of different ZnO/Rutile composites, and their performance in photocatalytic (PC) and photoelectrochemical (PEC) hydrogen production. Results demonstrate that the ZnO/TiO 2 photoanodes fabricated in this manner exhibit outstanding PC/PEC hydrogen production capabilities. Particularly noteworthy is the Z/R-15 photoanode, showcasing superior PEC performance with a photocurrent density 3.5 times higher than that of the pristine TiO 2 photoanode under equivalent conditions. Furthermore, it was observed that depositing ZnO onto highly crystalline, annealed TiO 2 nanorods yields optimal photoelectrical properties. Incorporating oxygen-rich vacancies in ZnO significantly enhances the photoelectrocatalytic performance of TiO 2 photoanodes. Panax notoginseng saponins (PNS), as the main active component of Panax notoginseng , shows broad pharmacological effects but with low oral bioavailability. Borneol (BO) is commonly used as an adjuvant drug in the field of traditional Chinese medicine, which has been proven to facilitate the absorption of ginsenosides such as Rg1 and Rb1 in vivo. The presence of chiral carbons has resulted in three optical isomers of BO commercially available in the market, all of which are documented by national standards. This study aimed to investigate the role of BO in promoting the oral absorption of PNS from the perspective of optical configuration and compatibility ratios. In this study, an ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled with triple quadrupole-linear ion trap tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-QTRAP-MS/MS) method was validated and applied to determine the concentrations of five main saponins in PNS in rat plasma. The kinetic characteristics of PNS were compared when co-administered with BO based on optical isomerism and different compatibility ratios. The results showed that BO promoted the exposure of PNS in rats. Three forms of BO, namely d -borneol (DB), l -borneol (LB), and synthetic borneol (SB), exhibited different promotion strengths. SB elevated PNS exposure in rats more than DB or LB. It is also interesting to note that under different compatibility ratios, SB can exert a strong promoting effect only when PNS and BO were combined in a 1:1 ratio (PNS 75 mg/kg; BO 75 mg/kg). As a pharmacokinetic booster, the dosage of BO is worthy of consideration and should follow the traditional medication principles of Chinese medicine. This study shed new light on the compatible use of PNS and BO from the perspective of "configuration-dose-influence" of BO. To give full play to the advantages of AZHCs, vertically aligned reduced graphene oxide/tannic acid (V-rGO/TA) arrays are constructed on the laser-pretreated graphite paper (LGP) as flexible carbon-based cathodes (V-rGO/TA/LGP) for AZHCs by a facile laser reduction method. The vertical structure of rGO exhibits abundant physical adsorption sites and ion/electron transfer channels, and the residual oxygen-containing groups of rGO provide favored chemical adsorption sites, which can enhance Zn2+ ion storage. In addition, the TA molecules contribute extra capacity by reversible redox reaction (phenol-quinone transition), further improving the electrochemical performance of the electrode. Consequently, the assembled quasi-solid-state AZHC based on the optimized V-rGO/TA/LGP cathode possesses a high specific capacity of 136.6 µAh cm−2 and a maximum energy density of 109.3 μWh cm−2. In addition, the device exhibits good flexibility with a capacity retention of 97.0 % even after 3000 bending cycles. This design strategy opens up a new approach to construct a vertically aligned carbon material for achieving high-performance flexible AZHCs and realizing their practical applications. [Display omitted] • Mn(II) can activate PI to efficiently degrade sulfadiazine in water. • The Mn(II)/PI system is a non-radical process dominated by electron transfer. • The generated MnO 2 -PI complex plays an important role in SDZ degradation. • Stable iodates are the main iodine species in the Mn (II)/PI system. The present study investigated the mechanism of manganese ion (Mn(II))-activated periodate (PI) for rapid removal of sulfadiazine (SDZ). The Mn(II)/PI system showed excellent SDZ degradation results with 99.8 % degradation efficiency within 2 min at pH = 5.5. Mechanism study reveals that the degradation of SDZ in the Mn(II)/PI system takes place mainly through an electron transfer process. Mn(II) can be oxidized by PI to formed the in-situ MnO 2 , followed by the generation of MnO 2 -PI complex. Electrochemical methods have confirmed that the generated MnO 2 -PI complex significantly contributes to the degradation of pollutants. MnO 2 -PI mediates the transfer of electrons from SDZ to PI surface through surface vacancies, thereby achieving efficient degradation of pollutants. p -methoxyphenyl sulfone (PMSO) is used as a probe compound, and almost 90 % of PMSO is converted into PMSO 2 in the Mn(II)/PI/SDZ system, manifesting that excessive PI may oxidize active Mn(IV) to Mn(V). And the generated Mn(V) also contributes to the SDZ degradation. The SDZ degradation pathway is proposed and the transformation of iodine species is detected. The final iodine species in the system are iodate. The chloride culture experiment has confirmed that the production of organic iodine is very low, indicating no significant health risks. Pain is a common public health problem and remains as an unmet medical need. Currently available analgesics usually have limited efficacy or are accompanied by many adverse side effects. To achieve satisfactory pain relief by multimodal analgesia, new combinations of nefopam and gabapentinoids (pregabalin/gabapentin) were designed and assessed in inflammatory, osteoarthritis and neuropathic pain. Isobolographic analysis was performed to analyze the interactions between nefopam and gabapentinoids in carrageenan-induced inflammatory pain, mono-iodoacetate-induced osteoarthritis pain and paclitaxel-induced peripheral neuropathic pain in mice. The anti-inflammatory effect and motor performance of monotherapy or their combinations were evaluated in the carrageenan-induced inflammatory responses and rotarod test, respectively. Nefopam (1, 3, 5, 10, 30 mg/kg, p.o.), pregabalin (3, 6, 12, 24 mg/kg, p.o.) or gabapentin (25, 50, 75, 100 mg/kg, p.o.) dose-dependently reversed mechanical allodynia in three pain models. Isobolographic analysis indicated that the combinations of nefopam and gabapentinoids exerted synergistic anti-nociceptive effects in inflammatory, osteoarthritis, and neuropathic pain mouse models, as evidenced by the experimental ED 50 (median effective dose) falling below the predicted additive line. Moreover, the combination of nefopam–pregabalin/gabapentin alleviated carrageenan-induced inflammation and edema, and also prevented gabapentinoids-related sedation or ataxia by lowering their effective doses. Collectively, the co-administration of nefopam and gabapentinoids showed synergistic analgesic effects and may result in improved therapeutic benefits for treating pain. Cinnamomum cassia Presl (Cinnamomum cassia) is a common traditional Chinese medicine, which can promote the secretion and digestion of gastric juice, improve the function of gastrointestinal tract. Cinnamaldehyde (CA) is a synthetic food flavoring in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia. This study aimed to search for the active ingredient (CA) of inhibiting H. pylori from Cinnamomum cassia , and elucidate mechanism of action, so as to provide the experimental basis for the treatment of H. pylori infection with Cinnamomum cassia. It's in vitro and in vivo pharmacological properties were evaluated based on minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC), and an acute gastric inflammation model in mice infected with H. pylori. Drug safety was evaluated using the CCK8 method and high-dose administration in mice. The advantageous characteristics of CA in inhibiting H. pylori were confirmed using acidic conditions and in combination with the antibiotics. The mechanism underlying the action of CA on H. pylori was explored using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), adhesion experiments, biofilm inhibition tests, ATP and ROS release experiments, and drug affinity responsive target stability (DARTS) screening of target proteins. The protein function and target genes were verified by molecular docking and Real-Time quantitative reverse transcription PCR (qRT-PCR). The results demonstrated that CA was found to be the main active ingredient against H. pylori in Cinnamomum cassia in-vitro tests, with a MIC of 8–16 μg/mL. Moreover, CA effectively inhibited both sensitive and resistant H. pylori strains. The dual therapy of PPI + CA exhibited remarkable in vivo efficacy in the acute gastritis mouse model, superior to the standard triple therapy. DARTS, molecular docking, and qRT-PCR results suggested that the target sites of action were closely associated with GyrA , GyrB , AtpA , and TopA , which made DNA replication and transcription impossible, then leading to inhibition of bacterial adhesion and colonization, suppression of biofilm formation, and inhibition ATP and enhancing ROS. ICU readmissions and post-discharge mortality pose significant challenges. Previous studies used EHRs and machine learning models, but mostly focused on structured data. Nursing records contain crucial unstructured information, but their utilization is challenging. Natural language processing (NLP) can extract structured features from clinical text. This study proposes the Crucial Nursing Description Extractor (CNDE) to predict post-ICU discharge mortality rates and identify high-risk patients for unplanned readmission by analyzing electronic nursing records. Developed a deep neural network (NurnaNet) with the ability to perceive nursing records, combined with a bio-clinical medicine pre-trained language model (BioClinicalBERT) to analyze the electronic health records (EHRs) in the MIMIC III dataset to predict the death of patients within six month and two year risk. A cohort and system development design was used. Based on data extracted from MIMIC-III, a database of critically ill in the US between 2001 and 2012, the results were analyzed. We calculated patients' age using admission time and date of birth information from the MIMIC dataset. Patients under 18 or over 89 years old, or who died in the hospital, were excluded. We analyzed 16,973 nursing records from patients' ICU stays. We have developed a technology called the Crucial Nursing Description Extractor (CNDE), which extracts key content from text. We use the logarithmic likelihood ratio to extract keywords and combine BioClinicalBERT. We predict the survival of discharged patients after six months and two years and evaluate the performance of the model using precision, recall, the F 1 -score, the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC curve), the area under the curve (AUC), and the precision–recall curve (PR curve). The research findings indicate that NurnaNet achieved good F 1 -scores (0.67030, 0.70874) within six months and two years. Compared to using BioClinicalBERT alone, there was an improvement in performance of 2.05 % and 1.08 % for predictions within six months and two years, respectively. CNDE can effectively reduce long-form records and extract key content. NurnaNet has a good F 1 -score in analyzing the data of nursing records, which helps to identify the risk of death of patients after leaving the hospital and adjust the regular follow-up and treatment plan of relevant medical care as soon as possible.
