Purpose: To report a case of bilateral exudative retinal detachments and panuveitis in a patient with multiple myeloma (MM). Case Report: A 54-year-old patient with non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy was referred with blurred vision and scotomas in both eyes (OU). Three months prior to the onset of ocular symptoms, he was diagnosed with systemic MM and was receiving chemotherapy. Clinical examination revealed best-corrected visual acuities of 20/80 OU, rare anterior chamber cell, 2+ vitreous cell, diffuse intraretinal hemorrhages, and exudative retinal detachments (RD). Optical coherence tomography of the macula showed central subretinal fluid with cystic intraretinal fluid OU. The findings were consistent with panuveitis and exudative RD in the setting of MM. He reported symptomatic improvement after plasmapheresis and oral prednisone initiation. Conclusion: Extensive, bilateral exudative RD and panuveitis are rare but potentially sight-threatening findings in patients with MM. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim(s): To explore the published research related to nurses' documentation and use of vital signs in recognising and responding to deteriorating patients. Design: Scoping review of international, peer‐reviewed research studies. Data Sources: Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature Complete, Medline Complete, American Psychological Association PsycInfo and Excerpta Medica were searched on 25 July 2023. Reporting Method: Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta‐Analyses extension for scoping reviews. Results: Of 3880 potentially eligible publications, 32 were included. There were 26 studies of nurses' vital sign documentation: 21 adults and five paediatric. The most and least frequently documented vital signs were blood pressure and respiratory rate respectively. Seven studies focused on vital signs and rapid response activation or afferent limb failure. Five studies of vital signs used to trigger the rapid response system showed heart rate was the most frequent and respiratory rate and conscious state were the least frequent. Heart rate was least likely and oxygen saturation was most likely to be associated with afferent limb failure (n = 4 studies). Conclusion: Despite high reliance on using vital signs to recognise clinical deterioration and activate a response to deteriorating patients in hospital settings, nurses' documentation of vital signs and use of vital signs to activate rapid response systems is poorly understood. There were 21studies of nurses' vital sign documentation in adult patients and five studies related to children. Implications for the profession and/or patient care: A deeper understanding of nurses' decisions to assess (or not assess) specific vital signs, analysis of the value or importance nurses place (or not) on specific vital sign parameters is warranted. The influence of patient characteristics (such as age) or the clinical practice setting, and the impact of nurses' workflows of vital sign assessment warrants further investigation. Segmental odontomaxillary dysplasia (SOD) is a rare and unusual nonhereditary developmental disorder that affects one side of the maxilla, impacting the hard tissue, soft tissue, and dentition in the affected area. It most frequently presents with enlargement of the gingival and osseous tissue of the affected side and hypodontia of the involved quadrant. Cutaneous irregularities of the impacted area are also common. We report a case of SOD arising in the right maxilla of a three-year-old female. Our report and review of the literature highlight the clinical, radiographic, and histopathologic characteristics of SOD, as well as the management of patients and the proposed etiologies of its pathogenesis. A correction notice was issued for an article in the journal Molecular Cancer, titled "Identification of TRAIL-inducing compounds highlights small molecule ONC201/TIC10 as a unique anti-cancer agent that activates the TRAIL pathway." ‘Selfie’ taking was introduced to the common people by smartphones and has become a common practice across the globe in no time. With technological advancement and the popularity of smartphones, selfie-taking has grown rapidly within a short time. In light of the new trend set by the generation, this study aimed to explore reasons for selfie-taking and selfie-posting on social media and their effects on the social and psychological lives of young adults. A purposive sampling method was adopted to select 20 Indian citizens, between 18 and 24 years. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analysed using thematic analysis. Selfie-taking and posting on social media give positive feelings, and it acts as a mood modifier dependent mostly on the favourability and feedback about the post which in turn affects emotions and self-satisfaction. Older adults are more frequently wanting to age in place. Governments are seeking cost-effective and efficient methods of supporting aging populations. Older adults who want to stay in their homes for as long as possible encounter multiple barriers, including struggling to maintain their homes, inadequate levels of social and healthcare support, and the lack of financial capacity to pay for home support services. The Mobile Seniors’ Wellness Network (MSWN), a multi-disciplinary and person-centered mobile health and social support intervention study was designed to investigate and support aging in place for older adults living in rural New Brunswick, Canada. Secondary analysis of case notes and exit interviews using content analysis revealed concerns with the lack of affordable and mobile care services for vulnerable rural older adults. Older adults revealed that their needs include “the little things” rather than grand gestures or sweeping policies to age in place such as assistance with grounds and home maintenance, in addition to relational and person-centered health and social care in the home. Reliance on private service delivery and volunteer organizations can increase the likelihood that older adults will experience a breakdown of social support networks tied together loosely by friends, family, and their communities. It is generally assumed that larger juveniles are more physiologically mature, hence their overall condition and subsequent performance are higher.Some taxa face extreme workload transitions during development (e.g. nest departure in birds), which may select for non‐linear growth profiles that decouple relationships between body size and physiological state, making the links between metrics of development (e.g. body mass) and juvenile performance uncertain.We manipulated perceived mass in European starlings approaching fledging using 4.0 g weighted backpacks, measuring subsequent growth trajectories (mass, wing length) and physiological state (aerobic capacity, energy state, oxidative status) to test whether body size and physiology are coupled during a non‐linear developmental phase (pre‐fledging mass recession). Nanotag radio transmitters were then used to track post‐fledging performance (activity, activity‐slope, dispersal).Weighted nestlings had greater pre‐fledging mass recession and marginally reduced wing growth when compared to controls. Consequently, weighted birds had lower body mass at fledging, while also displaying markers of oxidative stress (increased reactive oxygen metabolites), yet aerobic capacity and energy state were equal between treatment groups.Previously weighted birds showed no correlation between fledgling state (body size, physiology) and subsequent performance. However, control fledglings that had decreased mass recession and greater wing growth prior to fledging dispersed earlier, while longer wings at fledging were associated with more rapid increases in post‐fledging activity (activity‐slope). In addition, control fledglings with lower haemoglobin also dispersed earlier, while increased reactive oxygen metabolites were associated with decreased activity levels. Body mass and energy state were unrelated to any metric of post‐fledging performance.Our data suggest mass‐independent development of some physiological traits in species with non‐linear growth profiles, potentially with a context‐dependent oxidative cost, and that physiology may predict some measures of post‐fledging performance not captured by body size. Simple Summary: The assessment of tumor response is important in evaluating cancer treatment and predicting clinical outcomes. The currently used response evaluation criteria in solid tumors (RECIST) are based on tumor size and have limitations in tumor response assessment. We proposed a novel radiologic parameter (R) that combines radiologic tumor changes in size, contrast, and density and utilized patients' daily cone-beam computerized tomography (CBCT) to evaluate early tumor response to stereotactic radiation therapy (SBRT) for lung cancer. In total, 132 lung cancer patients with 134 tumors were selected for this study. The results of R agreed well with the radiologic assessment performed by an experienced radiologist. Therefore, R can be used for quick, inexpensive, and accurate tumor evaluation for lung SBRT treatment. Background: We aimed to develop a new tumor response assessment method for lung SBRT. Methods: In total, 132 lung cancer patients with 134 tumors who received SBRT treatment with daily CBCT were included in this study. The information about tumor size (area), contrast (contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR)), and density/attenuation (μ) was derived from the CBCT images for the first and the last fractions. The ratios of tumor area, CNR, and μ (RA, RCNR, Rμ) between the last and first fractions were calculated for comparison. The product of the three rations was defined as a new parameter (R) for assessment. Tumor response was independently assessed by a radiologist based on a comprehensive analysis of the CBCT images. Results: R ranged from 0.27 to 1.67 with a mean value of 0.95. Based on the radiologic assessment results, a receiver operation characteristic (ROC) curve with the area under the curve (AUC) of 95% was obtained and the optimal cutoff value (RC) was determined as 1.1. The results based on RC achieved a 94% accuracy, 94% specificity, and 90% sensitivity. Conclusion: The results show that R was correlated with early tumor response to lung SBRT and that using R for evaluating tumor response to SBRT would be viable and efficient. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The concept of governance has become essential to the success and accountability of organizations in today’s world, where things are becoming more complex and interconnected. The effectiveness of governance systems relies heavily on the behavior exhibited by leaders within these organizations. This systematic review delves into the multifaceted relationship between ethical leadership and corporate governance, shedding light on the pivotal role played by leaders in fostering ethical behavior and decision-making within the corporate sphere. It relied on three digital databases— Scopus, Emerald Insight, and PsycArticles—from where 1,564 records were obtained. Thirty studies that fulfilled the eligibility criteria were selected for analysis. Thematic synthesis was the method adopted for analysis of data. The analysis revealed two major themes—Impact of Ethical Culture and Leadership and Associated Factors of Ethical Behavior—and subsequent subthemes that critically examine the key dimensions of ethical leadership within corporate governance, including promoting ethical values, transparency, integrity, and stakeholder engagement.
