In the field of power systems, the optimization challenge of combined heat and power units economic dispatch (CHPUED) holds immense importance. This study presents an improved Aquila optimization technique (IAQT) that effectively tackles the CHPUED. The primary objective of the enhanced IAQT model is to minimize the overall cost of power generation in CHP systems while satisfying demand and operational constraints. However, to achieve more accurate cost estimations and avoid suboptimal solutions, it is crucial to consider transmission losses in the optimization model. By incorporating transmission losses, the IAQT algorithm can allocate power generation resources more effectively, leading to improved system efficiency and reduced operational costs. The proposed IAQT algorithm addresses the limitations of the standard AQT and introduces novel features to enhance its search capabilities. One key limitation of the standard AQT is its heavy reliance on the best solution found during optimization. To overcome this drawback, the enhanced IAQT model eliminates the dependency on the best solution and enables a more thorough exploration of the search space. Moreover, the algorithm incorporates specific limitations and constraints for each dimension of the newly generated solutions, ensuring their feasibility and validity. The standard AQT and proposed IAQT are tested on CEC 20 benchmark functions. Moreover, the proposed approach is extensively evaluated through experimentation and testing on various scenarios, including 7–48-unit and large 96-unit systems with/without losses. Furthermore, the overall costs for the 7 unit-system are considered including the reserve constraint. The results exhibit the remarkable performance and efficiency of the enhanced IAQT model, outperforming the standard version and several previously reported results. Research and investigation into renewable energy sources is being sparked by the rapidly rising need for electricity, higher costs of fossil fuels, and increasing worries about the environment. Recent years have seen a tremendous increase in the use of wind energy (WE). In-depth study has been done to effectively produce power from WE. Nevertheless, it is exceedingly challenging and dangerous to set up wind turbines (WTs) for research and teaching uses due to constraints like space and upkeep. Numerous benefits come with a lab-scale WT emulator (WTE), such as freedom from space restrictions, an improved level of control, and independence from existing weather conditions. The design and execution of a low-power, lab-scale WTE are the focus of this study. The investigated experimental configuration is intended to precisely mimic the mechanical behavior of a real WT. Aerodynamics, blades, slow shafts, gearboxes, and controller elements, for example, are modeled in MATLAB/Simulink before they are assembled and implemented on a dSPACE 1104 board. A DC motor running under buck converter control is used to substitute the quick shaft. The WTE's functionality is evaluated in various wind speed conditions. The findings of comparing the WTE's dynamics with those offered by the manufacturer amply show the efficacy of the proposed WTE and its capacity to take the position of an actual WT. This work examines the analysis of temporary behaviors and crowbar hardware layout for enhancing the fault ride-through capability (FRTC) in doubly fed induction wind generators (DFIWGs) A crowbar that is linked in parallel to the rotor side converter (RSC) is a feature found on the majority of DFIWGs these days to safeguard the RSC and DC-bus capacitor (DCBC). Previous studies demonstrated that the crowbar resistance has an impact on the DFIWG transient response's oscillations and peak values. In order to satisfy the FRTC criterion, the article initially methodically examines the DFIWG dynamics with and without a crowbar during a 100% voltage dip and studies the effects of two resistance values on the DCBC. It has been demonstrated that choosing a crowbar resistance greater than the permitted range may cause the DFIG FRT performance to decline. By actively addressing grid faults and improving performance, stability, and dependability, this integrated crowbar shows the potential of state-of-the-art control approaches for the dependable and efficient use of DFIWGs. MATLAB/Simulink is used to run robust simulations, and the results unambiguously show that the proposed model may significantly improve the FRTC of DFIWGs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
