- Abstract
Point source CO2 capture (PSCC) is crucial for decarbonizing various industrial sectors, while direct air capture (DAC) holds promise for removing CO2 directly from the air. Sorbents play a critical role in both technologies, with their performances, efficiency, cost, etc., largely depending on which type is used (physical or chemical). Solid amine sorbents (SAS) employed in the chemical adsorption of CO2 are suitable for both PSCC and DAC. SAS offer significant advantages over liquid amines such as monoethanolamine (MEA), due to their ability to perform cyclic adsorption–desorption with much lower energy requirement. The environmental concern associated with MEA can be mitigated by SAS. Support materials have a significantly important role in stabilizing amine and enhancing stability and kinetics; varieties of support materials have been screened at a laboratory scale. One promising support material is a silica gel (SG), which is commercially available and attractive for designing cost‐effective sorbents for large‐scale CO2 capture. Various impregnation methods such as physical adsorption and covalent functionalization have been employed to functionalize silica surfaces with amines. This review provided a comprehensive critical analysis of SG‐based SAS for CO2 capture. We discussed and evaluated them in terms of their adsorption capacity, adsorption, and desorption conditions, and the kinetics involved in these processes. Finally, we proposed a few recommendations for further development of low‐cost, lower carbon footprint SAS for large‐scale deployment of CO2 capture technology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

UNITED States Capitol Insurrection, 2021 ,SOCIAL media ,RIGHT-wing extremism ,MEMES ,ANTISEMITISM - Abstract
Following the January 6 insurrection on the US Capitol, we sought to explore how two social media platforms were being used concurrently to disseminate far-right memes and discourse. Our study employs a mixed-methods approach to collect a large data set of images from 4chan/pol/ and using the "#stopthesteal" hashtag on Twitter between 1 January 2021 and 13 January 2021. Our findings reveal how each platform influenced the usage of memes toward identity building and far-right activism in the days leading up to and immediately after the insurrection. Our findings reveal that Twitter was used to mobilize users leading up to January 6 but led to in-fighting among the pro-Trump crowd in the days after. Meanwhile 4chan/pol users took advantage of the Overton window of the Insurrection to disseminate far-right ideology and attempt to recruit and radicalize disgruntled Trump supporters after the insurrection was deemed a failure. Many of the decisions made related to student progress and intervention selection rely on data. In their roles, paraeducators often implement academic interventions; therefore, they must be prepared to monitor students' progress accurately and reliably. This pilot randomized control trial tested the effects of a remote training package on paraeducator's accuracy in collecting reading fluency data. Furthermore, we wanted to know if the skills developed through the remote training package transferred when paraeducators were given novel data collection probes. The remote training package resulted in statistically significant results with large effect sizes, while participants in the control group made little to no statistically significant improvement. Paraeducators who received training improved their accuracy in data collection and demonstrated strong skill transfer to the novel probes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Assessing the threat status of species in response to global change is critical for biodiversity monitoring and conservation efforts. However, current frameworks, even the IUCN Red List, often neglect critical factors such as genetic diversity and the impacts of climate and land-use changes, hindering effective conservation planning. To address these limitations, we developed an enhanced extinction risk assessment framework using Diploderma lizards as a model. This framework incorporates long-term field surveys, environmental data, and land-use information to predict distributional changes for 10 recently described Diploderma species on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau, which hold ecological significance but remain underassessed in conservation assessment. By integrating the distribution data and genetically inferred effective population sizes ( N e), we conducted scenario analyses and used a rank-sum approach to calculate Risk ranking scores (RRS) for each species. This approach revealed significant discrepancies with the IUCN Red List assessments. Notably, D. yangi and D. qilin were identified as facing the highest extinction risk. Furthermore, D. vela , D. batangense , D. flaviceps , D. dymondi , D. yulongense , and D. laeviventre , currently classified as "Least Concern", were found to warrant reclassification as "Vulnerable" due to considerable threat from projected range contractions. Exploring the relationship between morphology and RRS revealed that traits such as snout-vent length and relative tail length could serve as potential predictors of extinction risk, offering preliminary metrics for assessing species vulnerability when comprehensive data are unavailable. This study enhances the precision of extinction risk assessment frameworks and demonstrates their capacity to refine and update risk assessments, especially for lesser-known taxa.

- Abstract
Regulator of G protein signaling 1 (RGS1) is known to be highly expressed in various tumors, but its specific effects and regulatory mechanism in ovarian cancer (OC) progression are not well understood. To delve into the tumor biology, a predictive risk model for OC was developed, incorporating RGS1, PRKG2, CD24, and ABCB1, with RGS1 exhibiting the strongest correlation. The model's reliability and validity were confirmed through Kaplan-Meier analysis, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, and principal component analysis (PCA). The risk score was validated as an independent indicator of overall survival, and a nomogram model was created to predict overall survival. Moreover, RGS1 expression was found to be up-regulated and associated with a poor prognosis in OC. Functional studies revealed that deleting RGS1 inhibited OC cell proliferation both in vitro and in vivo, while overexpression of RGS1 enhanced cell proliferation. Additionally, blocking the NF-kB pathway was shown to impede RGS1-induced proliferation, and overexpression of p65 partially reversed the effects of RGS1 deletion, promoting the tumorigenic properties of OC cells. These findings suggest that RGS1 could be a valuable biomarker for predicting prognosis and a potential novel therapeutic target for OC treatment., Competing Interests: Declarations. - Abstract
Speech-in-noise perception is consistently reported to be impaired in learning disorders, which stresses the importance of documenting its developmental course in young children. In this cross-sectional study, ninety children (41 females, 5.5-11.6 years old) and nineteen normal-hearing adults (15 females, 20-30 years old) were tested with a newly developed closed-set speech perception in babble-noise test, combining two levels of phonological difficulty and two noise levels. Results showed that speech-in-babble-noise perception takes a definite maturation step around 7 years of age (d = 1.17, grade effect) and is not mature at 10 years of age when compared to young adults (d = 0.94, group effect). Developmental trajectories of both accuracy and response times were evaluated, with influences of psycholinguistic factors, to foster the development of adequate screening tests., (© 2024 The Author(s). - Abstract
This book gives an account, as little biased as possible, on human space missions beyond low Earth orbit in general, and specifically to the planets of the solar system. The importance of advanced propulsion is stressed and the mathematical methods needed to design missions based on them are described. The included computer code allows the user to assess the feasibility of the various missions using different propulsion systems and how advancements in propulsion can allow humankind to become a true spacefaring civilization. As opposite to the majority of books dealing with mission design, where the subject is usually dealt with in a highly mathematical way, here an attempt is made to avoid as much as possible the mathematical complexities and to focus on the practical aspects of the design. However, the equations needed to make numerical analysis and simulations of the missions are described and discussed. An original computer code is included in the book, and an appendix helps the reader to understand how to use it. The code is different from existing ones since its main aim is to be user friendly and to allow the user to make a preliminary design of interplanetary missions aimed to planets and their satellites, comets or asteroids.

- Abstract
This book focuses on the practical utility of key precepts of Transference-Focused Psychotherapy (TFP) in contemporary psychiatry. This volume actively addresses the pressing public health crisis related to high numbers of patients with personality disorder pathology, often with significantly compromised functioning associated with marked social burdens related to health costs and lost productivity. TFP is one of the empirically validated treatments for patients with borderline personality disorder (BPD). Building on this evidence base, the contributors to this volume describe their work in multiple clinical situations utilizing these principles with varying patient populations in different treatment settings. These settings include: the adult and adolescent day hospital, short term and extended inpatient hospitalizations, group therapy, and a range of outpatient services. Each chapter follows a consistent format to cover patient population, nature of treatment setting, overview of financial support, training of clinicians, treatment targets, elements of TFP employed, measurement of effectiveness, case study examples, and future research goals. Contributors from different backgrounds describe active use of TFP principles in their work, with adjustments from standard TFP protocol made accordingly. Implementing Transference-Focused Psychotherapy Principles builds on the growing literature about TFP by expanding the focus beyond the extended individual psychotherapy format. The text will resonate with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and mental health counselors, among others. Clinicians involved in public health systems will find the material outlined of particular value in our evolving world of mental health services.

- Abstract
This is the first book-length exploration of the type-scenes of western medieval literature from the ninth to the fifteenth centuries, spanning both the Latinate and Germanic traditions. Type-scenes are the recurring, stock scenes comprising the basic structure and cognitive guidance for narrative. These formulaic scenes enabled medieval poets to express originality while honoring tradition. Central to medieval poetic invention, type-scenes form the vital “internal organs” of narrative, each serving a specialized function while working in concert with other organs to create and sustain the story. This accessible and engaging guide to medieval type-scenes consists of three parts: Part I is a compendium of the type-scenes commonly found in medieval narrative, including analyses of examples from individual poems. Part II explores combinations of type-scenes within single works of literature for purposes of chronology, characterization, or virtuosity. Part III examines how a single type-scene manifests across multiple poems, adapting to a variety of settings and periods, while maintaining its original intent. This volume kindles in scholars, teachers, and students alike a new and refreshing awareness of the foundational narrative strategies of medieval literature.

- Abstract
With proven techniques and'how to'guidance, this newly revised and updated seventh edition of the definitive publication on neonatal care provides a wealth of in-depth information on the assessment of the newborn. Catherine L. Witt and Carol M. Wallman continue the legacy began by their predecessors Ellen Tappero and Mary Ellen Honeyfield to lead a seventh edition emphasizing the importance of timely interaction between health providers and new parents. A new chapter on communication demonstrates the value of using inclusive language when working with diverse communities and populations, which is a perspective embraced throughout the text. Complementing the wisdom of longtime chapter contributors are the voices of several esteemed new practitioners and authors. This empirically grounded text addresses the physical, physiologic, neurologic, and behavioral implications of a thorough assessment, and explains how healthcare providers can reduce the risks associated with the birthing process and the neonatal period. Common findings and variations are not only illustrated but clearly described. Also included is key information on behavioral and pain assessment, including the use of specific tools with various newborn populations. The book details the importance of gathering maternal and family history, antepartum testing, and intrapartum monitoring, as well as the early detection of variations which may require follow-up, including common treatments.
