Abstract: ALMA-IMF imaged 15 massive protoclusters down to a resolution of of 2 kau scales, identifying about 1000 star-forming cores. The mass and luminosity of these cores, which are fundamental physical characteristics, are difficult to determine, a problem greatly exacerbated at the distances >2 kpc of ALMA-IMF protoclusters. We combined new datasets and radiative transfer modeling to characterize these cores. We estimated their mass-averaged temperature and the masses these estimates imply. For 1/6 of the sample, we measured the bolometric luminosities, implementing deblending corrections when necessary. We used spectral energy distribution (SED) analysis obtained with the PPMAP Bayesian procedure, which aims to preserve the best angular resolution of the input data. We extrapolated the luminosity and dust temperature images provided by PPMAP at 2.5" resolution to estimate those of individual cores, which were identified at higher angular resolution. To do this, we applied approximate radiative transfer relationships between the luminosity of a protostar and the temperature of its surrounding envelope and between the external heating of prestellar cores and their temperatures. For the first time, we provide data-informed estimates of dust temperatures for 883 cores identified with ALMA-IMF: 17-31 K and 28-79 K (5th and 95th percentiles, up to 127 K) for the 617 prestellar and 266 protostellar cores, respectively. We also measured protostellar luminosities spanning 20-80 000 Lsun. For hot cores, we estimated systematically lower temperatures than studies based on complex organic molecules. We established a mass-luminosity evolutionary diagram, for the first time at the core spatial resolution and for a large sample of high-mass protostellar cores. 2. Why and How do Complex Systems Self-Organize at All? Average Action Efficiency as a Predictor, Measure, Driver, and Mechanism of Self-Organization

Abstract: Self-organization in complex systems is a process in which randomness is reduced and emergent structures appear that allow the system to function in a more competitive way with other states of the system or with other systems. It occurs only in the presence of energy gradients, facilitating energy transmission through the system and entropy production. Being a dynamic process, self-organization requires a dynamic measure and dynamic principles. The principles of decreasing unit action and increasing total action are two dynamic variational principles that are viable to utilize in a self-organizing system. Based on this, average action efficiency can serve as a quantitative measure of the degree of self-organization. Positive feedback loops connect this measure with all other characteristics of a complex system, providing all of them with a mechanism for exponential growth, and indicating power law relationships between each of them as confirmed by data and simulations. In this study, we apply those principles and the model to agent-based simulations. We find that those principles explain self-organization well and that the results confirm the model. By measuring action efficiency we can have a new answer to the question: "What is complexity and how complex is a system?". This work shows the explanatory and predictive power of those models, which can help understand and design better complex systems.

Abstract: The stellar initial mass function (IMF) is critical to our understanding of star formation and the effects of young stars on their environment. On large scales, it enables us to use tracers such as UV or Halpha emission to estimate the star formation rate of a system and interpret unresolved star clusters across the universe. So far, there is little firm evidence of large-scale variations of the IMF, which is thus generally considered universal. Stars form from cores and it is now possible to estimate core masses and compare the core mass function (CMF) with the IMF, which it presumably produces. The goal of the ALMA-IMF large program is to measure the core mass function at high linear resolution (2700 au) in 15 typical Milky Way protoclusters spanning a mass range of 2500 to 32700 Msun. In this work, we used two different core extraction algorithms to extract about 680 gravitationally bound cores from these 15 protoclusters. We adopt per core temperature using the temperature estimate from the PPMAP Bayesian method. A power-law fit to the CMF of the sub-sample of cores above the 1.64 Msun completeness limit, 330 cores, through the maximum likelihood estimate technique yields a slope of 1.97 +/- 0.06, significantly flatter than the 2.35 Salpeter slope. Assuming a self-similar mapping between the CMF and the IMF, this result implies that these 15 high-mass protoclusters will generate atypical IMFs. This sample is the largest to date produced and analysed self-consistently, derived at matched physical resolution, with per-core temperature estimates and cores as massive as 150 Msun. Abstract: A crucial aspect in addressing the challenge of measuring the core mass function, that is pivotal for comprehending the origin of the initial mass function, lies in constraining the temperatures of the cores. We aim to measure the luminosity, mass, column density and dust temperature of star-forming regions imaged by the ALMA-IMF large program. High angular resolution mapping is required to capture the properties of protostellar and pre-stellar cores and to effectively separate them from larger features, such as dusty filaments. We employed the point process mapping (PPMAP) technique, enabling us to perform spectral energy distribution fitting of far-infrared and submillimeter observations across the 15 ALMA-IMF fields, at an unmatched 2.5" angular resolution. By combining the modified blackbody model with near-infrared data, we derived bolometric luminosity maps. We estimated the errors impacting values of each pixel in the temperature, column density, and luminosity maps. Subsequently, we employed the extraction algorithm getsf on the luminosity maps in order to detect luminosity peaks and measure their associated masses. We obtained high-resolution constraints on the luminosity, dust temperature, and mass of protoclusters, that are in agreement with previously reported measurements made at a coarser angular resolution. We find that the luminosity-to-mass ratio correlates with the evolutionary stage of the studied regions, albeit with intra-region variability. We compiled a PPMAP source catalog of 313 luminosity peaks using getsf on the derived bolometric luminosity maps. The PPMAP source catalog provides constraints on the mass and luminosity of protostars and cores, although one source may encompass several objects. Abstract: Gravitational waves from black-hole merging events have revealed a population of extra-galactic BHs residing in short-period binaries with masses that are higher than expected based on most stellar evolution models - and also higher than known stellar-origin black holes in our Galaxy. It has been proposed that those high-mass BHs are the remnants of massive metal-poor stars. Gaia astrometry is expected to uncover many Galactic wide-binary systems containing dormant BHs, which may not have been detected before. The study of this population will provide new information on the BH-mass distribution in binaries and shed light on their formation mechanisms and progenitors. As part of the validation efforts in preparation for the fourth Gaia data release (DR4), we analysed the preliminary astrometric binary solutions, obtained by the Gaia Non-Single Star pipeline, to verify their significance and to minimise false-detection rates in high-mass-function orbital solutions. The astrometric binary solution of one source, Gaia BH3, implies the presence of a 32.70 \pm 0.82 M\odot BH in a binary system with a period of 11.6 yr. Gaia radial velocities independently validate the astrometric orbit. Broad-band photometric and spectroscopic data show that the visible component is an old, very metal-poor giant of the Galactic halo, at a distance of 590 pc. The BH in the Gaia BH3 system is more massive than any other Galactic stellar-origin BH known thus far. The low metallicity of the star companion supports the scenario that metal-poor massive stars are progenitors of the high-mass BHs detected by gravitational-wave telescopes. The Galactic orbit of the system and its metallicity indicate that it might belong to the Sequoia halo substructure. Alternatively, and more plausibly, it could belong to the ED-2 stream, which likely originated from a globular cluster that had been disrupted by the Milky Way., Comment: 23 pages, accepted fro publication in A&A Letters. 6. Core to ultracompact HII region evolution in the W49A massive protocluster

Abstract: We aim to identify and characterize cores in the high-mass proto-cluster W49, determine their evolutionary stages and measure the associated lifetimes. We built a catalog of 129 cores extracted from an ALMA 1.3 mm continuum image at 0.26" (2900 au) angular resolution. The association between cores and Hyper/Ultra Compact HII (H/UC HII) regions was established from the analysis of VLA 3.3 cm continuum and H30$\alpha$ line observations. We also looked for emission of hot molecular cores (HMCs) using the methyl formate doublet at 218.29 GHz. We identified 40 cores associated with an H/UC HII region and 19 HMCs over the ALMA mosaic. The 52 cores with an H/UC HII region and/or a HMC are assumed to be high-mass protostellar cores, while the rest of the core population likely consists in prestellar cores and low-mass protostellar cores. We found a good agreement between the two tracers of ionized gas, with 23 common detections and only four cores detected at 3.3 cm and not in H30$\alpha$. The spectral indexes from 3.3 cm to 1.3 mm range from 1, for the youngest cores with partially optically thick free-free emission, to about -0.1, that is optically thin free-free emission obtained for cores likely more evolved. Using as a reference the H/UC HII regions, we found the statistical lifetimes of the HMC and massive protostellar phases in W49N to be about $6\times10^4$ yr and $1.4\times10^5$ yr, respectively. We also showed that HMC can co-exist with H/UC HII regions during a short fraction of the core lifetime, about $2\times10^4$ yr. Abstract: Sites associated with high-mass star and cluster formation exhibit a so-called hot core phase, characterized by high temperatures and column densities of complex organic molecules. We built a comprehensive census of hot core candidates towards the ALMA-IMF protoclusters based on the detection of two CH3OCHO emission lines at 216.1 GHz. We used the source extraction algorithm GExt2D to identify peaks of methyl formate (CH3OCHO) emission that is a complex species commonly observed towards sites of star formation. We built up a catalog of 76 hot core candidates with masses ranging from about 0.2 to 80 Msun , of which 56 are new detections. A large majority of these objects are compact, rather circular, with deconvolved FWHM sizes of about 2300 au on average. About 30% of our sample of methyl formate sources have core masses above 8 Msun within sizes ranging from about 1000 au to 13400 au, which well correspond to archetypical hot cores. The origin of the CH3OCHO emission toward the lower-mass cores can be explained by a mixture of contribution from shocks, or may correspond to objects in a more evolved state, i.e. beyond the hot core stage. We find that the fraction of hot core candidates increases with the core mass. The large fraction of hot core candidates towards the most massive cores suggests that they rapidly enter the hot core phase and feedback effects from the forming protostar(s) impact their environment on short time-scales.

Abstract: We aimed to measure the CMF in the evolved W33-Main star-forming protocluster to compare it with CMF recently obtained in other Galactic star-forming regions, including the ones included in the ALMA-IMF program. We used observations from the ALMA-IMF large program: 2'x2' maps of emission from the continuum and selected lines at 1.3mm and 3mm observed by the ALMA 12m only antennas. Our angular resolution was typically 1'', that is 2400au at a distance of 2.4kpc. The lines we analysed are CO(2-1), SiO(5-4), N2H+(1-0), H41alpha as well as He41alpha blended with C41alpha. We built a census of dense cores in the region, and we measured the associated CMF based on a core-dependent temperature value. We confirmed the 'evolved' status of W33-Main by identifiying three HII regions within the field, and to a lesser extent based on the number and extension of N2H+ filaments. We produced a filtered core catalog of 94 candidates, that we refined to take into account the contamination of the continuum by free-free and line emission, obtaining 80 cores with masses that range from 0.03 to 13.2Msun. We fitted the resulting high-mass end of the CMF with a single power law of the form N(log(M)) ~ M^alpha, obtaining alpha = -1.44(+0.16)(-0.22), slightly steeper but consistent with the Salpeter index. We categorized our cores in pre- and protostellar, mostly based on outlow activity and hot core nature. We found the prestellar CMF to be steeper than a Salpeter-like distribution, and the protostellar CMF to be slightly top heavy. We found a higher proportion of cores within the HII regions and their surroundings than in the rest of the field. We also found that the cores' masses were rather low (maximum mass of 13Msun).

Abstract: Abstract Encephalitis is a rare and potentially fatal manifestation of herpes simplex type 1 infection. Following genome-wide genetic analyses, we identified a previously uncharacterized and very rare heterozygous variant in the E3 ubiquitin ligase WWP2, in a 14-month-old girl with herpes simplex encephalitis. The p.R841H variant (NM_007014.4:c.2522G > A) impaired TLR3 mediated signaling in inducible pluripotent stem cells-derived neural precursor cells and neurons; cells bearing this mutation were also more susceptible to HSV-1 infection compared to control cells. The p.R841H variant increased TRIF ubiquitination in vitro. Antiviral immunity was rescued following the correction of p.R841H by CRISPR-Cas9 technology. Moreover, the introduction of p.R841H in wild type cells reduced such immunity, suggesting that this mutation is linked to the observed phenotypes.

Abstract: This article reports the successful one-step synthesis of two micron-sized composite powders consisting of chitosan and amorphous calcium phosphate. These composite materials are prepared by spray drying of a solution containing chitosan and calcium phosphate precursors. The co-precipitation of chitosan and calcium phosphate precursors during the process induces a highly homogeneous distribution of the phases. The mineral phase identified as spherical nanoparticles dispersed in chitosan showed no chemical bonding with the polymer. As demonstrated by electron microscopy, small angle X-ray scattering and spectroscopies, variation in chitosan concentrations significantly influences the size and spatial distribution of the mineral phase. These results present a promising approach for the preparation of chitosan/amorphous calcium phosphate composite powders with controlled and tunable properties with potential applications in the field of biomaterial engineering such as bone substitutes.

Abstract: Huntington’s disease is an inherited disorder characterized by psychiatric, cognitive, and motor symptoms due to degeneration of medium spiny neurons in the striatum. A prodromal phase precedes the onset, lasting decades. Current biomarkers include clinical score and striatal atrophy using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). These markers lack sensitivity for subtle cellular changes during the prodromal phase. MRI and MR spectroscopy offer different contrasts for assessing metabolic, microstructural, functional, or vascular alterations in the disease. They have been used in patients and mouse models. Mouse models can be of great interest to study a specific mechanism of the degenerative process, allow better understanding of the pathogenesis from the prodromal to the symptomatic phase, and to evaluate therapeutic efficacy. Mouse models can be divided into three different constructions: transgenic mice expressing exon-1 of human huntingtin (HTT), mice with an artificial chromosome expressing full-length human HTT, and knock-in mouse models with CAG expansion inserted in the murine htt gene. Several studies have used MRI/S to characterized these models. However, the multiplicity of modalities and mouse models available complicates the understanding of this rich corpus. The present review aims at giving an overview of results obtained using MRI/S for each mouse model of HD, to provide a useful resource for the conception of neuroimaging studies using mouse models of HD. Finally, despite difficulties in translating preclinical protocols to clinical applications, many biomarkers identified in preclinical models have already been evaluated in patients. This review also aims to cover this aspect to demonstrate the importance of MRI/S for studying HD.

Abstract: A large amount of research in orthopedic and maxillofacial domains is dedicated to the development of bioactive 3D scaffolds. This includes the search for highly resorbable compounds, capable of triggering cell activity and favoring bone regeneration. Considering the phosphocalcic nature of bone mineral, these aims can be achieved by the choice of amorphous calcium phosphates (ACPs). Because of their metastable property, these compounds are however to-date seldom used in bulk form. In this work, we used a non-conventional “cold sintering” approach based on ultrafast low-pressure RT compaction to successfully consolidate ACP pellets while preserving their amorphous nature (XRD). Complementary spectroscopic analyses (FTIR, Raman, solid-state NMR) and thermal analyses showed that the starting powder underwent slight physicochemical modifications, with a partial loss of water and local change in the HPO42- ion environment. The creation of an open porous structure, which is especially adapted for non-load bearing bone defects, was also observed. Moreover, the pellets obtained exhibited sufficient mechanical resistance allowing for manipulation, surgical placement and eventual cutting/reshaping in the operation room. Three-dimensional porous scaffolds of cold-sintered reactive ACP, fabricated through this low-energy, ultrafast consolidation process, show promise toward the development of highly bioactive and tailorable biomaterials for bone regeneration, also permitting combinations with various thermosensitive drugs.

Abstract: Context. Large spectroscopic surveys devoted to the study of the Milky Way, including Gaia, use automated pipelines to determine the atmospheric parameters of millions of stars. The Gaia FGK benchmark stars are reference stars with T-eff and log g derived through fundamental relations, independently of spectroscopy, to be used as anchors for the parameter scale. The first and second versions of the sample have been extensively used for that purpose, and more generally to help constrain stellar models. Aims. We provide the third version of the Gaia FGK benchmark stars, an extended set intended to improve the calibration of spectroscopic surveys, and their interconnection. Methods. We have compiled about 200 candidates that have precise measurements of angular diameters and parallaxes. We determined their bolometric fluxes by fitting their spectral energy distribution. Masses were determined using two sets of stellar evolution models. In a companion paper, we describe the determination of metallicities and detailed abundances. Results. We provide a new set of 192 Gaia FGK benchmark stars with their fundamental T-eff and log g, and with uncertainties lower than 2% for most stars. Compared to the previous versions, the homogeneity and accuracy of the fundamental parameters are significantly improved thanks to the high quality of the Gaia photometric and astrometric data.

Abstract: Context. Gravitational waves from black-hole (BH) merging events have revealed a population of extra-galactic BHs residing in short-period binaries with masses that are higher than expected based on most stellar evolution models-And also higher than known stellar-origin black holes in our Galaxy. It has been proposed that those high-mass BHs are the remnants of massive metal-poor stars. Aims. Gaia astrometry is expected to uncover many Galactic wide-binary systems containing dormant BHs, which may not have been detected before. The study of this population will provide new information on the BH-mass distribution in binaries and shed light on their formation mechanisms and progenitors. Methods. As part of the validation efforts in preparation for the fourth Gaia data release (DR4), we analysed the preliminary astrometric binary solutions, obtained by the Gaia Non-Single Star pipeline, to verify their significance and to minimise false-detection rates in high-mass-function orbital solutions. Results. The astrometric binary solution of one source, Gaia BH3, implies the presence of a 32.70a ±a 0.82aM- BH in a binary system with a period of 11.6 yr. Gaia radial velocities independently validate the astrometric orbit. Broad-band photometric and spectroscopic data show that the visible component is an old, very metal-poor giant of the Galactic halo, at a distance of 590 pc. Conclusions. The BH in the Gaia BH3 system is more massive than any other Galactic stellar-origin BH known thus far. The low metallicity of the star companion supports the scenario that metal-poor massive stars are progenitors of the high-mass BHs detected by gravitational-wave telescopes. The Galactic orbit of the system and its metallicity indicate that it might belong to the Sequoia halo substructure. Abstract: Context. Strongly lensed quasars are fundamental sources for cosmology. The Gaia space mission covers the entire sky with the unprecedented resolution of 0.18âÃ Â€ ³ in the optical, making it an ideal instrument to search for gravitational lenses down to the limiting magnitude of 21. Nevertheless, the previous Gaia Data Releases are known to be incomplete for small angular separations such as those expected for most lenses. Aims. We present the Data Processing and Analysis Consortium GravLens pipeline, which was built to analyse all Gaia detections around quasars and to cluster them into sources, thus producing a catalogue of secondary sources around each quasar. We analysed the resulting catalogue to produce scores that indicate source configurations that are compatible with strongly lensed quasars. Methods. GravLens uses the DBSCAN unsupervised clustering algorithm to detect sources around quasars. The resulting catalogue of multiplets is then analysed with several methods to identify potential gravitational lenses. We developed and applied an outlier scoring method, a comparison between the average BP and RP spectra of the components, and we also used an extremely randomised tree algorithm. These methods produce scores to identify the most probable configurations and to establish a list of lens candidates. Results. We analysed the environment of 3 760 032 quasars. A total of 4 760 920 sources, including the quasars, were found within 6âÃ Â€ ³ of the quasar positions. This list is given in the Gaia archive. In 87% of cases, the quasar remains a single source, and in 501 385 cases neighbouring sources were detected. We propose a list of 381 lensed candidates, of which we identified 49 as the most promising ones. Abstract: Numerous challenges hinder the development of neuroprotective treatments for Parkinson's disease, with a regularly identified issue being the lack of clinically relevant animal models. Viral vector overexpression of α‐synuclein is widely considered the most relevant model; however, this has been limited by high variability and inconsistency. One potential method of optimisation is pairing it with a secondary insult such as FN075, a synthetic molecule demonstrated to accelerate α‐synucleinopathy. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate if sequential infusion of adeno‐associated virus (AAV)‐α‐synuclein and FN075 into the rat brain can replicate α‐synucleinopathy, nigrostriatal pathology and motor dysfunction associated with Parkinson's disease. Rats received a unilateral injection of AAV‐α‐synuclein (or AAV‐green fluorescent protein) into two sites in the substantia nigra, followed 4 weeks later by unilateral injection of FN075 (or vehicle) into the striatum. Animals underwent behavioural testing every 4 weeks until sacrifice at 20 weeks, followed by immunohistochemistry assessment post‐mortem. As anticipated, AAV‐α‐synuclein led to extensive overexpression of human α‐synuclein throughout the nigrostriatal pathway, as well as elevated levels of phosphorylated and aggregated forms of the protein. However, the sequential administration of FN075 into the striatum did not exacerbate any of the α‐synuclein pathology. Furthermore, despite the extensive α‐synuclein pathology, neither administration of AAV‐α‐synuclein nor FN075, alone or in combination, was sufficient to induce dopaminergic degeneration or motor deficits. In conclusion, this approach did not replicate the key characteristics of Parkinson's disease, and further studies are required to create more representational models for testing of novel compounds and treatments for Parkinson's disease. Abstract: Context. The star formation process leads to an increased chemical complexity in the interstellar medium. Sites associated with high-mass star and cluster formation exhibit a so-called hot core phase, characterized by high temperatures and column densities of complex organic molecules. Aims. We aim to systematically search for and identify a sample of hot cores toward the 15 Galactic protoclusters of the ALMA-IMF Large Program and investigate their statistical properties. Methods. We built a comprehensive census of hot core candidates toward the ALMA-IMF protoclusters based on the detection of two CH3OCHO emission lines at 216.1 GHz. We used the source extraction algorithm GExt2D to identify peaks of methyl formate (CH3OCHO) emission, a complex species commonly observed toward sites of star formation. We performed a cross-matching with the catalog of thermal dust continuum sources from the ALMA-IMF 1.3 mm continuum data to infer their physical properties. Results. We built a catalog of 76 hot core candidates with masses ranging from ~0.2 M⊙ to ~80 M⊙, of which 56 are new detections. A large majority of these objects, identified from methyl formate emission, are compact and rather circular, with deconvolved full width at half maximum (FWHM) sizes of ~2300 au on average. The central sources of two target fields show more extended, but still rather circular, methyl formate emission with deconvolved FWHM sizes of ~6700 au and 13 400 au. About 30% of our sample of methyl formate sources have core masses above 8 M⊙ and range in size from ~1000 au to 13 400 au, which is in line with measurements of archetypical hot cores. The origin of the CH3OCHO emission toward the lower-mass cores may be explained as a mixture of contributions from shocks or may correspond to objects in a more evolved state (i.e., beyond the hot core stage). We find that the fraction of hot core candidates increases with the core mass, suggesting that the brightest dust cores are all in the hot core phase. Conclusions. Our results suggest that most of these compact methyl formate sources are readily explained by simple symmetric models, while collective effects from radiative heating and shocks from compact protoclusters are needed to explain the observed extended CH3OCHO emission. The large fraction of hot core candidates toward the most massive cores suggests that they rapidly enter the hot core phase and that feedback effects from the forming protostar(s) impact their environment on short timescales. Abstract: The storage of serum tumor markers (STM) at −18 °C for one year has been a legal requirement in France since 1999, but has been abolished in 2022. This raises the question of the relevance of maintaining these biobanks in terms of conditions of storage. These should only be implemented after validation; in order to maintain the integrity of the biological sample and must be controlled over time according to the laboratoryʼs procedures. The aim of the study was to assess the suitability of storing 10 STMs by evaluating their stability after one year of storage at −18 °C. A new immuno-enzymatic assay (A+1) was conducted on samples that had been stored at −18 °C for one year after an initial assay (A) of one of the following STMs: carcino-embryonic antigen (CEA), alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA125), carbohydrate antigen 15-3 (CA15-3), carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9), total (TPSA), and free (FPSA) prostate-specific antigen, calcitonin (CT), thyroglobulin (TG), and neuro-specific enolase (NSE). The results were confronted to four different permissible error sources. In total, 1148 A+1 assays were performed. A strong correlation between A+1 and A values was found for all analytes, but with a statistically significant reduction in the mean A+1 concentration compared to the mean A concentration in 7/10 STMs. The bias induced by conservation seems to be technically unsustainable if we rely on the repositories closest to the current analytical performances. Abstract: Context. Large spectroscopic surveys devoted to the study of the Milky Way, including Gaia, use automated pipelines to determine the atmospheric parameters of millions of stars. The Gaia FGK benchmark stars are reference stars with Teff and log 푔 derived through fundamental relations, independently of spectroscopy, to be used as anchors for the parameter scale. The first and second versions of the sample have been extensively used for that purpose, and more generally to help constrain stellar models. Aims. We provide the third version of the Gaia FGK benchmark stars, an extended set intended to improve the calibration of spectroscopic surveys, and their interconnection. Methods. We have compiled about 200 candidates that have precise measurements of angular diameters and parallaxes. We determined their bolometric fluxes by fitting their spectral energy distribution. Masses were determined using two sets of stellar evolution models. In a companion paper, we describe the determination of metallicities and detailed abundances. Results. We provide a new set of 192 Gaia FGK benchmark stars with their fundamental Teff and log 푔, and with uncertainties lower than 2% for most stars. Compared to the previous versions, the homogeneity and accuracy of the fundamental parameters are significantly improved thanks to the high quality of the Gaia photometric and astrometric data. Abstract: SpinoCerebellar Ataxia type 7 (SCA7) is an inherited disorder caused by CAG triplet repeats encoding polyglutamine expansion in the ATXN7 protein, which is part of the transcriptional coactivator complex SAGA. The mutation primarily causes neurodegeneration in the cerebellum and retina, as well as several forebrain structures. The SCA7140Q/5Q knock-in mouse model recapitulates key disease features, including loss of vision and motor performance. To characterize the temporal progression of brain degeneration of this model, we performed a longitudinal study spanning from early to late symptomatic stages using high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and in vivo1H-magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-MRS). Compared to wild-type mouse littermates, MRI analysis of SCA7 mice shows progressive atrophy of defined brain structures, with the striatum, thalamus and cortex being the first and most severely affected. The volume loss of these structures coincided with increased motor impairments in SCA7 mice, suggesting an alteration of the sensory-motor network, as observed in SCA7 patients. MRI also reveals atrophy of the hippocampus and anterior commissure at mid-symptomatic stage and the midbrain and brain stem at late stage. 1H-MRS of hippocampus, a brain region previously shown to be dysfunctional in patients, reveals early and progressive metabolic alterations in SCA7 mice. Interestingly, abnormal glutamine accumulation precedes the hippocampal atrophy and the reduction in myo-inositol and total N-acetyl-aspartate concentrations, two markers of glial and neuronal damage, respectively. Together, our results indicate that non-cerebellar alterations and glial and neuronal metabolic impairments may play a crucial role in the development of SCA7 mouse pathology, particularly at early stages of the disease. Degenerative features of forebrain structures in SCA7 mice correspond to current observations made in patients. 50. Beam‐Generated Sample Evolution to Emphasize Spatial Inhomogeneities: The Example of HPO42−‐Containing Amorphous Calcium Phosphate.

Abstract: ABSTRACT Amorphous calcium phosphates (ACPs) represent a family of bioactive compounds particularly relevant to bone regeneration. However, due to their intrinsic metastability, their processing into 3D‐shaped materials cannot be undergone by conventional sintering methods and requires cold sintering approaches. Also, their microstructure and local compositional changes still have to be explored in detail. To this aim, spectroscopy techniques are particularly appealing to probe local chemical environments at the microscale. Concerning ACPs, one question regards the distribution of (hydrogenated) phosphate species, as they may lead to various evolutionary trends. In this contribution, we purposely exploited the laser–beam interaction through Raman mapping to trigger the in situ HPO42−‐to‐P2O74− transformation. Analysis by a multivariate approach allowed us to spot P2O74− clusters resulting from HPO42−‐rich initial domains. Moreover, a blue shift of the ν1PO43− band was noticed in the close vicinity of these clusters, thus evidencing a local evolution of the chemical composition of the ACP. These results, corroborated by differential thermal analysis, demonstrate the relevance of using the laser–sample interaction through local heating to probe the spatial evolution induced, in our case, by an ultrafast compaction process. Comparison of outcomes obtained using two different laser/power strategies finally evidenced the need to adapt the Raman analytical conditions to the behavior of the metastable material to analyze.
