Large dams significantly impact river ecosystems by disrupting connectivity, altering physicochemical variables, and modifying flow regimes. These modifications influence the spatial and temporal dynamics of biological processes and species distributions. While much research has focused on potamodromous species, there remains a gap in understanding the recovery gradients of resident species in dam‐altered rivers. This study examines the responses of larvae of a resident species, the mandarin fish (Siniperca chuatsi), to environmental alterations caused by the Three Gorges Dam (TGD) in the middle reach of the Yangtze River. We hypothesized that larval abundance, feeding, growth, and survival would exhibit longitudinal recovery gradients, improving with the increased distance from the TGD. Our results confirm this hypothesis, showing that larvae further from the TGD exhibited higher abundance, increased feeding intensity, enhanced growth rates, improved survival rate, and earlier peak abundance and hatching dates. Key environmental factors, including water temperature and discharge, increased downstream, while transparency decreased. Major tributary inputs significantly contributed to these recovery gradients. The observed longitudinal gradients in larval attributes mirrored environmental changes, underscoring the TGD impact on population recruitment. These results highlight the broader implications of dam‐induced changes on resident species recruitment, potentially affecting entire fish communities. Our study contributes to understanding the distinct spatial patterns of population trends, providing valuable insights for designing more effective conservation and management practices for resident freshwater fishes in large regulated rivers. There is a robust association between friendship quality and victimization in adolescence; yet, it remains unclear whether friendship quality may be linked causally with different forms of victimization in middle adolescence. To fill this gap, this study examines the bidirectional associations of friendship quality and relational/verbal victimization with data collected at two time points, 6 months apart, in a sample of 671 middle Chinese adolescents (M age = 15.63, SD age = 0.73, 49% males). Cross-lagged panel analyses revealed a two-way relationship between friendship quality and victimization, which existed in both verbal and relational victimization. Multi-group panel analyses observed that the cross-lagged associations between friendship quality and relational/verbal victimization were only found for males, but not for females. This result suggests that adolescent males' victimization is both affected by and a predictor of friendship quality, with implications for youth prevention programs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Different types of childhood maltreatment have negative effects on individual mental and behavioural outcomes. However, most of previous studies investigated their effects separately. Little is known about the effects of co‐occurring maltreatment profiles on adolescents' developmental outcomes and the potential protective factor. The current study sought to identify distinct profiles of childhood maltreatment and examine the effects of profiles of childhood maltreatment on internalising and externalising problems and the protective role of resilience based on two‐wave longitudinal data, which was collected from a sample of 670 Chinese adolescents (Mage = 15.50, SDage = 0.75, 48.4% boys). Four profiles of childhood maltreatment, that is, No maltreatment (67.9%), High neglect (23.0%), High abuse and neglect/Low sexual abuse (5.0%), and Multi‐maltreatment (4.1%), were identified. Adolescents in High neglect, High abuse and neglect/Low sexual abuse, and Multi‐maltreatment profiles were more likely to report internalising and externalising problems. Further, significant moderating effects of resilience only emerged for the association between the High neglect profile and internalising problems, such that high levels of resilience may weaken the association between the High neglect profile and internalising problems. Our findings revealed the importance and utility of identifying maltreatment profiles to tailor treatment based on specific maltreatment experiences. This paper introduces a novel class of fair and interpolatory planar curves called pκ -curves. These curves are comprised of smoothly stitched Bézier curve segments, where the curvature distribution of each segment is made to closely resemble a parabola, resulting in an aesthetically pleasing shape. Moreover, each segment passes through an interpolated point at a parameter where the parabola has an extremum, encouraging the alignment of interpolated points with curvature extrema. To achieve these properties, we tailor an energy functional that guides the optimization process to obtain the desired curve characteristics. Additionally, we develop an efficient algorithm and an initialization method, enabling interactive modeling of the pκ -curves without the need for global optimization. We provide various examples and comparisons with existing state-of-the-art methods to demonstrate the curve modeling capabilities and visually pleasing appearance of pκ -curves. • Introduce fair and interpolatory pκ -curves with parabolic-like curvature distribution. • Customize energy functionals to guide pκ -curve construction. • Develop an efficient and practical algorithm to solve the tailored optimization problem. Although family and school experiences play an important role in adolescents’ adjustment during the transition to high school, most prior studies investigated the effects of these experiences in isolation; their joint implications for both adolescents’ concurrent and long-term adjustment outcomes are less clear, and the potential role of individual characteristics within such associations remains understudied. Based on 525 10th graders (Mage = 15.48, SDage = 0.71, 43.6% boys) who participated in a longitudinal study, the present research aimed to identify distinct family and school experience profiles among first-year high school students and examine their associations with adolescents’ internalizing problems and externalizing problems, both concurrently and 18 months later. Latent profile analysis revealed four distinctive profiles: thriving, low resources—moderate family risk, developmental stress—high parental conflicts, and developmental stress—high peer victimization profiles. The other three profiles (vs. the thriving profile) reported significantly higher levels of concurrent internalizing problems; while these differences diminished after 18 months. However, the enduring impacts of these profiles on internalizing problems persisted among adolescents with higher levels of environmental sensitivity. Additionally, adolescents characterized by two developmental stress profiles (vs. the thriving profile) exhibited significantly higher levels of externalizing problems both currently and longitudinally. Findings underscore the importance of identifying at-risk populations among adolescents during the transition to high school by including both family and school experiences when examining environmental influence on their adjustment, as well as the necessity to take individual environmental sensitivity into account when examining these associations. Resource partitioning through temporal, spatial and/or trophic dimensions is suggested as a mechanism for long‐term coexistence among sympatric species. However, how the combined effects of the different dimensions contribute to the partitioning during the ontogenetic process is unclear.We sampled two sympatric icefish species [Protosalanx hyalocranius (Abbott, 1901) and Neosalanx taihuensis (Chen, 1956)] monthly from July 2015 to June 2016 in Hongze Lake, China. We evaluated the hypothesis that combined effects of separation in gonad development dynamics and ontogenetic diet shifts facilitate resource partitioning in temporal and trophic dimensions during the entire life cycle process of the two icefish species.Increased gonadosomatic index (GSI) of female P. hyalocranius occurred during October 2015 to January 2016, and that of female N. taihuensis occurred during January to March 2016. Thus, energy and nutrition investments in gonad development separated seasonally between the two species. Consequently, temporal separations in gonad development between P. hyalocranius (GSI peaked in January) and N. taihuensis (GSI peaked in March) indicated potential segregations in spawning time and consequent larval abundance peaks, suggesting reduced overlap of prey consumption during the early life stages.The dominant diet of P. hyalocranius shifted from cladocerans to copepods, and then shrimp, and finally to fish during its ontogeny, whereas the dominant diet of N. taihuensis changed gradually from cladocerans to copepods during its ontogeny. The diet overlap in cladocerans during May was high between the two species.Our findings support the hypothesis of an associative strategy, combining temporal (separations in gonad development and subsequently spawning time) and trophic (ontogenetic diet shifts) dimensions, for the resource partitioning between P. hyalocranius and N. taihuensis, which may be an important mechanism for long‐term coexistence among sympatric short‐lived fishes. Recovering the shape of an object from a 3D point cloud is a challenging task due to the complex shapes and diverse requirements of different tasks. For buildings in urban scenes, maintaining geometric constraints such as parallelism, perpendicularity, symmetry, and coplanarity is important during the model fitting process. In this paper, we present a regularity-constrained point cloud reconstruction framework that comprises primitive initialization, constraint construction, and global optimization. Our approach first performs normal optimization and plane segmentation on the input point cloud. We then compute the global reference directions to set the target normal for each plane to construct the constraints. Finally, we obtain the model by globally optimizing the position and orientation of the planes while considering the constraints. Our experimental results demonstrate that our proposed algorithm not only strictly enforces geometric constraints but also closely fits the input point cloud. Furthermore, our framework outperforms state-of-the-art methods in terms of shape recovery and constraint maintenance, as demonstrated by comparative evaluations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, two polysaccharide fractions (TSP-1 and TSP-2) were isolated from Toona sinensis leaves. The physicochemical properties and solution conformations of TSP-1 and TSP-2 were investigated. DSC and TG results showed that TSP-1 and TSP-2 had thermal stability. The intrinsic viscosities of TSP-1 and TSP-2 solutions were 11.42 and 6.13 mL/g, respectively. Rheological results showed that the viscosities of TSP-1 and TSP-2 solutions were affected by polysaccharide concentration, Ca2+ and extreme pH. Furthermore, TSP-1 exhibited a weak gel behavior at the concentrations of 0.5 %–2.0 %, while TSP-2 showed a weak gel behavior at the concentration of 2 %. HPSEC-MALLS analysis revealed that the Rg values of TSP-1 and TSP-2 were 96.8 nm and 56.2 nm, respectively. Conformation analysis indicated that TSP-1 behaved as a sphere, while TSP-2 behaved like a rigid rod. The grain size of sediment delivered to a river by hillslope processes is an important factor which could impact fluvial erosion, sediment transport, and associated geomorphic changes. Grain size distribution (GSD) is increasingly recognised as an important factor for the impact of landslides on sediment pulses and long-term erosion rates. Therefore a better comprehension of grain size control on landslide-generated sediment transport and dynamics will help with understanding post-seismic fluvial processes and landscape evolution. In this study, we modelled the recovery of the Hongxi River basin affected by the Wenchuan earthquake under different landslide GSD scenarios. The CAESAR-Lisflood (CL) model was first modified to enable the spatial input of sediment GSD, which allows the model to distinguish the grain size composition of landslide sediment and the background sediment sourced from other areas. Using the modified CL model, we simulated three different landslide GSD scenarios (Original, Coarser, Finer) by altering the original landslide sediment GSD observed from a post-earthquake basin. In particular, we analysed the fate of landslide-generated sediment using a new sediment tracing function embedded in CL. This enabled us to evaluate the role of landslide GSD variation on the spatio-temporal heterogeneity of sediment transport. Our results show that the GSD of landslide material exerts a clear control on both sediment yield and channel deposition, the sediment transport of landslides disconnected to the fluvial system is more sensitive to grain size variation, while the GSD of landslides connected to the fluvial system has less impact on sediment dynamics. The duration of landslide disturbances on basin sediment dynamics can largely be dependent on the period of time (e.g., 20 years in this study basin) taken for grain coarsening (the grain size is increasing upward), which is dominated by the evacuation of fine sediments. The modelling results and findings highlight the importance of grain size distribution of landslide material and provide information to support basin sediment management and environmental risk mitigation. • We proposed a hybrid framework for the crop yield forecasting at regional level. • This framework integrates data assimilation, crop model, and machine learning. • The framework was successfully applied with a higher accuracy than previous studies. • This framework is helpful for developing regional food security early warning system. Timely and reliable regional crop yield forecasting before harvest is critical for managing climate risk, adjusting agronomic management, and making food trade policy. Although various methods exist for crop yield forecasting, including process-based crop models and machine learning techniques, the potential of integrating these methods for early-season yield forecasts has not been well investigated. In this study, we proposed a hybrid framework for crop yield forecasting that firstly assimilated leaf area index and soil moisture into a crop model and then combined the data-assimilated crop model with machine learning techniques to improve the prediction skill further. The proposed framework was applied to winter wheat yield forecasting in the North China Plain during 2009–2015. We found that the assimilation significantly enhances wheat yield estimates, achieving additional ACC = 0.27, MAPE = 6.12 %. Incorporating weather forecasts enabled reliable winter wheat yield forecasts up to 1–3 months in advance, achieving ACC = 0.69, MAPE = 7.79 %. Furthermore, integrating the assimilated crop model with machine learning techniques improved the forecasting further, achieving ACC = 0.97 and MAPE = 1.74 %. The proposed framework for crop yield forecasting can be adapted to other crops and regions and has great potential in developing food security early warning system at a regional scale.
