Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Massachusetts Lowell has identified new genetic markers associated with osteoporosis (OP) and low bone mass in older Hispanic adults. The study also found that certain genetic markers interact with dietary quality, particularly sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs), in relation to bone health. These findings may be valuable for early detection and preventative care. The study was conducted as part of the Boston Puerto Rican Osteoporosis (BPROS) study, which collected information on bone health and dietary variables from participants.
