6. Findings from University of Lille Hospital Has Provided New Data on Life Science (Intraoperative Mechanical Power and Postoperative Pulmonary Complications In Noncardiothoracic Elective Surgery Patients: a 10-year Retrospective Cohort Study).

Abstract

A recent study conducted at the University of Lille Hospital in France examined the association between intraoperative ventilation parameters and postoperative pulmonary complications in noncardiothoracic elective surgery patients. The study included 33,701 adults who underwent surgery between 2010 and 2019. The researchers found that lower tidal volume, higher mechanical power, decreased compliance, lower end-tidal carbon dioxide, and lower oxygen saturation were independently associated with postoperative pulmonary complications. Patients with these complications had higher rates of admission to the intensive care unit, longer hospital stays, and increased mortality. The study highlights the importance of monitoring and optimizing ventilation parameters during surgery to reduce the risk of postoperative pulmonary complications. [Extracted from the article]
