Abstract A series of 4-ferrcenylbutyl carboxylate esters with different alkyl chain length (C2-C4) of carboxylic acids were synthesized using Fe3O4@SiO2@(CH2)3-Im-bisEthylFc[I] nanoparticles as catalyst and have been characterized with FT-IR, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR. Ferrocenyl-based esters were used as corrosion inhibitors of mild steel in the 1M HCl solution as corrosive media. The corrosion inhibition efficiency of the synthesized ferrocenyl-based esters has been assessed by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), potentiodynamic polarization (PDP), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The 4-ferrocenylbutyl propionate showed a more effective corrosion inhibition behavior among the studied esters with 96% efficiency after immersion in the corrosive media for 2 weeks. The corrosion inhibition mechanism is dominated by formation of passive layer of inhibitor on the surface of the mild steel by adsorption. Moreover, the adsorption characteristics of 4-butylferrcenyl carboxylate esters on mild steel were thoroughly explored using density functional theory calculations. It was found that the Fe atoms located around the C impurity in the mild steel are the most efficient and active sites to adsorb 4-butylferrcenyl carboxylate esters.

Abstract Conventional wastewater treatment processes are often unable to remove antibiotics with resistant compounds and low biological degradation. The need for advanced and sustainable technologies to remove antibiotics from water sources seems essential. In this regard, the effectiveness of a spinning disc photocatalytic reactor (SDPR) equipped with a visible light-activated Fe3O4@SiO2-NH2@CuO/ZnO core–shell (FSNCZ CS) thin film photocatalyst was investigated for the decomposition of amoxicillin (AMX), a representative antibiotic. Various characterization techniques, such as TEM, FESEM, EDX, AFM, XRD, and UV–Vis-DRS, were employed to study the surface morphology, optoelectronic properties, and nanostructure of the FSNCZ CS. Key operating parameters such as irradiation time, pH, initial AMX concentration, rotational speed, and solution flow rate were fine-tuned for optimization. The results indicated that the highest AMX decomposition (98.7%) was attained under optimal conditions of 60 min of irradiation time, a rotational speed of 350 rpm, a solution flow rate of 0.9 L/min, pH of 5, and an initial AMX concentration of 20 mg/L. Moreover, during the 60 min irradiation time, more than 69.95% of chemical oxygen demand and 61.2% of total organic carbon were removed. After the photocatalytic decomposition of AMX, there is a substantial increase in the average oxidation state and carbon oxidation state in SDPR from 1.33 to 1.94 and 3.2, respectively. Active species tests confirmed that ·OH and ·O2 − played a dominant role in AMX decomposition. The developed SDPR, which incorporates a reusable and robust FSNCZ CS photocatalyst, demonstrates promising potential for the decomposition of organic compounds.

Abstract Background and objectives Due to an increased rate of inflammation in generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), insight into the mediating factors in the onset and recurrence of the inflammatory response can help to achieve novel treatments for alleviating the risk of GAD. In the current study, we aimed to evaluate the possible relationship between visceral adipose tissue (VAT) as an important intermediary in inflammation pathways and GAD in participants of the Employees’ Health Cohort Study of Iran (EHCSIR). Method We analyzed the data from 3889 included participants aged > 18 years in the EHCSIR study, which were collected from 2017 to 2020. Lifetime and 12-month GAD were assessed using the Composite International Diagnostic Interview (CIDI-2.1) questionnaire. The adjusted prevalence ratio was computed to evaluate the association between GAD and visceral adiposity index (VAI), GAD and visceral fat area (VFA), GAD and body mass index (BMI) and ultimately GAD and waist circumference (WC) in males and females using STATA software. Results Log-binomial analysis showed a higher prevalence ratio of 12-month GAD associated with VFA in women [PR: 1.42, CI: 1.07–1.87, P: 0.015]. The prevalence of lifetime GAD was higher in obese women (BM1 > 30) [PR: 2.35, CI: 1.07–5.13, P:0.03] than in women with normal BMI. Women with higher VAI were also significantly more likely to suffer lifetime GAD [PR: 1.25, CI: 1.05]. 1.48, P:0.01]. In males, the prevalence of lifetime diagnosed GAD per 1 standard deviation increase in VFA was 0.65 [CI: 0.46–0.91, P: 0.01]. Conclusion Visceral adiposity as a positive agent was associated with GAD prevalence in women. The presence of GAD symptoms showed no relationship to VFA in men.

In recent years, the use of a horizontal spinning disc reactor (SDR) as a photocatalytic reactor for the degradation of various pollutants in aqueous solutions has increased. This study was searched based on the PRISMA method. Two autonomous researchers carried out for the relevant studies using Scopus, Web of Science (WOS), and Science Direct databases. The search terms expanded focusing on the performance of horizontal spinning disc photocatalytic reactor (SDPR). In this review article, the main objective of the effect of operational factors on the efficiency of the degradation of pollutants with changes in the type of light source (range of visible light and UV radiation), disc rotational speed, flow rate, initial concentration of pollutants, pH, type of disc structure and flow regime are considered. Current challenges in SDPR include issues such as limited mass transfer, uneven light distribution, and difficulties in scaling up. To overcome these challenges, improvements can be made by optimizing reactor design for better mass transfer, enhancing light distribution through advanced light sources or reactor configurations, and developing scalable models that maintain efficiency at larger scales. Additionally, the use of innovative materials and coatings could improve the overall performance of SDPR.

MIL-101(Cr), a class of metal-organic framework, is a potential candidate for CO2 capture applications because of its high capacity of adsorption and separation capability. However, the intrinsic microporous structure of this nanomaterial poses limitations on its adsorption kinetics. Techniques employed to enhance its adsorption kinetics often adversely impact its adsorption capacity at equilibrium. Herein, as a new approach, we prepared amine-functionalized FAC@MIL-101(Cr) composites with adjustable micro-mesoporous structure and tunable nitrogen content by embedding different ratios of amine-functionalized activated carbon throughout the framework of MIL-101(Cr). This led to a simultaneous improvement in both kinetics and adsorption capacity for CO2. The best adsorbent, FAC-6@MIL-101(Cr), has excellent textural properties with a high surface area (1763.1 m2.g−1), great pore volume (1.29 cm3.g−1), and suitable nitrogen content (4.7 wt%). The adsorption analysis revealed that the modification of MIL-101(Cr) improved its CO2 adsorption capacity from 3.21 to 5.27 mmol/g under standard conditions of 1 bar and 25 °C. Furthermore, the FAC-6@MIL-101(Cr) adsorbent demonstrated fast CO2 adsorption kinetics (three times more relative to the pure MIL-101(Cr)), high CO2/N2 selectivity, and remarkable cyclic stability. The results confirmed that hybridization enhanced the polarizability of FAC@MIL-101(Cr) samples, causing more robust CO2-adsorbent surface interactions. Simultaneously, the existence of mesopores in the structure facilitated the transport of CO2 into the interior pores, resulting in a more efficient contact of CO2 molecules with all of the amine sites and a faster adsorption rate as well as more efficient regeneration. According to density functional theory (DFT) calculations, hybridization process induces significant changes in composites’ electronic structure, enhancing their capacity to interact with CO2 molecules more effectively. On the other hand, DFT calculations confirm that N2 molecule is less activated on the FAC@MIL-101(Cr) as evidenced by calculated small adsorption energy and charge-transfer values.

Residual pharmaceuticals in the environment are a class of emerging pollutants that endanger human health. Tetracycline's family, including oxytetracycline (OTC), are known as one of the most produced and consumed antibiotics worldwide. The g-C3N4/Fe3O4 nanocomposite with high level of catalytic efficiency features suitable performance in water/wastewater treatment. Therefore, in the present study, this nanocomposite was applied to remove the oxytetracycline from the aqueous environment. In this research study, g-C3N4/Fe3O4 nanocomposite (serving as catalyst) was initially synthesized by a simple hydrothermal method. The effect of key operating parameters such as initial solution pH, dose of catalyst, contact time and initial concentration of OTC in aqueous solutions was investigated under UV irradiation. In addition, COD and TOC tests, the kinetics and the effect of radical scavengers on the applied photocatalytic process were all evaluated. The maximum removal efficiency of OTC (99.8 %) was achieved under the following conditions: neutral solution pH 7; catalyst dose, 0.7 g/L; and an initial OTC concentration of 5 mg/L. The data showed that the kinetics of the reaction followed the first-order model with R2 of 0.9755. The respective COD and TOC efficiency values for the applied photocatalytic process were determined to be 87 and 59 %, respectively. In addition, the lowest removal efficiency of OTC was observed in the presence of tert-butanol radical scavengers, and OH radicals played a main role. The UV/g-C3N4/Fe3O4 photocatalytic process proved to be highly efficient for the removal of OTC antibiotic and could be potentially applied for the removal of other pollutants from aqueous solutions.

Background: Clinical trials investigating the efficacy of oral health prevention materials have conventionally used indices to evaluate the amount of plaque on tooth surfaces. Various methods, including the use of probiotics, have been suggested to prevent oral disease. The present study was conducted to investigate the probiotic products available in Iranian pharmacies that are used for the prevention of dental disease. Materials and Methods: In this double-blind randomized clinical trial, 40 students of medicine and pharmacy were randomly allocated into two equal groups of intervention and control using random allocation software. The intervention group used a probiotic pill containing Streptococcus salivarius M18 and K12 bacteria every night before going to bed. The control group used a mouth freshener tablet with the same flavor as the probiotic tablet every night before going to bed. The mean number of Streptococcus mutans bacteria in both the groups was calculated before and after using probiotic pills. The data were staticali analyzed by descriptive statistics (central tendency and dispersion) and inferential statistics (paired t-test and independent t-test) and Kolmogorov-Smironove tests (P 0.05). Conclusion: The mean plaque index in the group using probiotic tablets was significantly increased compared to those of the control group. However, further studies are suggested to evaluate these products.

Conclusion: The mean number of S. mutans bacteria in the group using probiotic tablets was significantly increased compared to those of the control group. Exposure of infants to chemicals during their development will have major effects on their health. One of the major exposures of infants to chemicals is through their food. The main structure of infant food is milk, which is high in fat. There is a possibility of accumulation of environmental pollution, including benzo (a) pyrene (BaP). In this systematic review, the amount of BaP in infant milk was surveyed for this purpose. The chosen keywords were: benzo (a) pyrene, BaP, Infant formula, dried milk, powdered milk, and baby food. A total of 46 manuscripts were found in the scientific database. After initial screening and quality assessment, 12 articles were selected for extraction of data. By meta-analysis, the total estimate of BaP in baby food was calculated to be 0.078 ± 0.006 μg/kg. Estimation of daily intake (EDI) and Hazard Quotient (HQ) for noncarcinogenic risk and Margin of exposure (MOE) for carcinogenic risk were also calculated for three age groups 0–6 months, 6–12 months, and 1–3 years. HQ was lower than 1 and MOE was more than 10,000 for three age groups. Therefore, there is no potential carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic risk for infant health. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

It is well known that antibiotics' residues in aquatic environments are a great threat to human health and ecology. Thus, it is vital to develop efficient strategies to overcome the mentioned threat and degrade the pointed out residues as much as possible. Herein, a novel Co-doped ZnO nanocomposite was fabricated and deposited on fluorine-doped tin oxide glass sheets (FTO) and eventually applied for the photoelectrocatalytic degradation of four sulphonamides (SAs), namely sulphacetamide (SCT), sulphathiazole (STZ), sulfamethoxazole (SMX) and sulphadiazine (SDZ) under visible light irradiation. In this regard, the effect of initial pH (3–11), applied current (0.5–1.5 mA/cm2), initial concentration of SAs (5–20 mg/L) were thoroughly investigated. The results indicated that under the optimal conditions (pH = 9, [SAs] = 5 mg/L and applied current = 1.5 mA/cm2), the degradation efficiencies obtained under a 90-min of reaction time were as follows: SCT (97.1%), SMX (95.8%), SDZ (93.2%) and STZ (91.8%). In addition, the degradation of the SAs by the applied photoelectrocatalytic process (PECP) followed the first-order kinetic model. Meanwhile, the applied PECP exhibited an excellent performance with regard to real samples. Finally, PECP is reckoned to be associated with 'green' technologies as electricity is involved and the used catalyst will not end up in the environment as secondary toxic materials. In this study, an innovative assembly of multi-metal ferrite nanoparticles, MgCuFe2O4 (MCF), was anchored on a g-C3N4 (GCN) surface to improve the degradation efficiency of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) over a visible-light (VL)-assisted peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation system. Optimal characterization revealed a distinct enhancement in the photocatalytic activity of GCN after the introduction of MCF owing to the rapid transfer of photo-induced charge carriers. An extensive spectrum of radical and non-radical agents was identified in the GCN@MCF/PMS/VL system, which played a pivotal role in the effective degradation of 2,4-D. Based on the reaction rate constants of the first-order kinetics, a strong synergistic effect was attained for the integrated GCN@MCF/PMS/VL system to degrade 2,4-D. More than 98.5% of 2,4-D (5.0 mg L−1) and 60% of the TOC were removed within 120 min at pH 6.5, 5.0 mM PMS, and 0.3 g L−1 catalyst. Recycling tests revealed that the degradation efficiency remained the same even after six successive runs. A comprehensive degradation pathway was proposed based on the intermediates and quenching tests. According to trapping tests, HO˙, h+, SO4˙−, O2˙−, and 1O2 contributed to the photocatalytic degradation of 2,4-D. The degradation mechanism showed that 2,4-D degraded to 2,4-DCP, 2-CHQ, HQ, 2-C-1,4-BQ, and aliphatic acids at the end. Biodegradability indices confirmed the biodegradable nature of the effluent obtained from the GCN@MCF/PMS/VL system. In conclusion, the integration of the GCN@MCF-mediated PMS activation system may offer significant benefits for the effective decontamination of pesticide-contaminated water. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This research study is centered on the sono-assisted photocatalytic degradation of a well-known antibiotic (ciprofloxacin; CIP) in aquatic media using a g-C3N4/NH2-UiO-66 (Zr) catalyst under visible light irradiation. Initially, the catalyst was prepared by a simple method, and its physiochemical features were thoroughly analyzed by XRD, FT-IR, FE-SEM, EDX, EDS-Dot-Mapping, and UV–Vis analytical techniques. After that, the impact of several influential factors affecting the performance of the applied sono-assisted photocatalytic process such as the initial concentration of CIP, solution pH, catalyst dosage, light intensity, and ultrasound power was fully assessed, and the optimal conditions were established. After 75 min of the sono-assisted photocatalytic treatment, the complete degradation of CIP (10 mg/L) was accomplished under the condition as follows: g-C3N4/NH2-UiO-66 (Zr), 0.6 g/L; pH, 5.0, and ultrasound power, light intensity 75 mw/cm2, 200 W/m2. Meanwhile, the photocatalytic degradation of CIP followed the pseudo-first-order kinetic model. In addition, the scavenger experiments demonstrated that OH˚ and O2°− radicals played a key role in the sono-assisted photocatalytic degradation process. It is also acknowledged that the applied catalyst was reused for five consecutive runs with a minor loss observed in its degradation efficiency. In a further experiment, a significant synergistic effect with regard to the degradation of CIP was observed once all three major parameters (visible light, ultrasound waves, and catalyst) were used in combination compared to each used alone. To sum up, it is thought that the integration of g-C3N4/MOF-based catalyst, ultrasound waves, and visible light irradiation could be potentially applied as a promising strategy for the degradation of various pharmaceuticals on account of high degradation performance, simple operation, excellent reusability, and eco-friendly approach. The plaque index values in the control group before and after the intervention were 0.42 and 0.42, respectively, which indicated no statistically significant difference (P > 0.05). Conclusion: The mean plaque index in the group using probiotic tablets was significantly increased compared to those of the control group. In this study, the geological and petrophysical methods were combined to investigate the reservoir characteristics of the Asmari Formation in one of the gas fields in the Persian Gulf. The key focus of this study is to categorize rock types and define reservoir zonation. Initially, sedimentary facies were identified through the analysis of the core samples and the petrographic studies. Subsequently, the depositional environments of each facies were interpreted. After assessing the reservoir quality of sedimentary facies, various rock typing methods, including FZI, R35, and Lucia methods, were used to categorize the reservoir rocks. Finally, reservoir zonation was carried out based on the integration of information and the NCRQI method. According to this study, the Asmari Formation in the studied field consists of 10 sedimentary facies deposited in a carbonate ramp environment during the Rupelian and Chattian stages. From the perspective of frequency, coralgal reef facies play a significant role in this platform, while from a reservoir standpoint, the thin-bedded ooid grainstones are the most important reservoir facies. The high variability in porosity and permeability data for each facies indicates the importance of diagenetic changes in reservoir quality and porosity distribution. A comparative analysis of rock typing methods revealed that the reservoir rock is composed of five reservoir rock types, associated with different sedimentary facies, pore sizes, and reservoir properties. Finally, based on the integration of geological and petrophysical information, the reservoir rock was divided into five reservoir zones, with reservoir zones As-2 and As-4 being the most important due to their relatively high porosity and permeability. Dolomite reservoirs flourished during arid climatic periods in the Middle East, primarily in the Permo-Triassic, Upper Jurassic, and Oligo-Miocene formations. These dolomitized reservoirs are frequently linked to evaporites, exhibit isotopically enriched signatures, and tend to occur predominantly in the more restricted regions of carbonate platforms. These observations strongly support their origin through sabkha and evaporative reflux processes. Consequently, dolomite formation and distribution are primarily influenced by early diagenetic processes and climatic conditions during arid periods. Dolomitization has exerted a significant influence on reservoir properties within the studied carbonate platforms. Porosity distribution and variation are jointly controlled by several factors, including dolomite content, texture, crystal size, anhydrite abundance, dolomite cementation, and the extent of burial compaction. While dolomite textures can vary from fabric-preserving to fabric-destroying, the overall reservoir properties exhibit an ascending pattern from intertidal to shoal facies. This trend is primarily determined by the proximity to the source of dolomitizing brines. The downward percolation of brines, coupled with decreasing dolomitizing potential, leads to an increase in dolomite crystal size within depositional cycles as one moves further away from the anhydrite facies. Proximal areas, characterized by fine-grained intertidal and lagoonal facies, are more susceptible to anhydrite cementation and overdolomitization, resulting in significant porosity reduction. Conversely, in more distal regions, reservoir quality substantially improves, particularly in areas dominated by sucrosic dolomite or grain-rich facies. While this trend may be altered by compaction during burial, it underscores the crucial role of dolomitization in preserving porosity, especially in deeply buried carbonate reservoirs.
