Wisdom is the hallmark of social judgment, but how people across cultures recognize wisdom remains unclear-distinct philosophical traditions suggest different views of wisdoms cardinal features. We explore perception of wise minds across 16 socio-economically and culturally diverse convenience samples from 12 countries. Participants assessed wisdom exemplars, non-exemplars, and themselves on 19 socio-cognitive characteristics, subsequently rating targets wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. Analyses reveal two positively related dimensions-Reflective Orientation and Socio-Emotional Awareness. These dimensions are consistent across the studied cultural regions and interact when informing wisdom ratings: wisest targets-as perceived by participants-score high on both dimensions, whereas the least wise are not reflective but moderately socio-emotional. Additionally, individuals view themselves as less reflective but more socio-emotionally aware than most wisdom exemplars. Our findings expand folk psychology and social judgment research beyond the Global North, showing how individuals perceive desirable cognitive and socio-emotional qualities, and contribute to an understanding of mind perception.

Hematite nanostructures are strong candidates for the development of sustainable water splitting technologies. However, major challenges exist in improving charge density and minimizing charge recombination rates for a competitive photoelectrochemical performance based on hematite without compromising sustainability aspects. Here we develop a synthetic strategy to leverage earth-abundant Al3+ and Zr4+ in a dual-chemical modification to synergistically minimize small polaron effects and interfacial charge recombination. The solution-based method simultaneously induces Al3+ doping of the hematite crystal lattice while Zr4+ forms interfacial excess, creating a single-phased homogeneous nanostructured thin film. The engineered photoanode increased photocurrent from 0.7 mA cm−2 for pristine hematite up to 4.5 mA cm−2 at 1.23 V and beyond 6.0 mA cm−2 when applying an overpotential of 300 mV under simulated sunlight illumination (100 mW cm−2). Penaeus paulensis (pink shrimp) is an important resource for small-scale fisheries in the brackish coastal lagoons of Uruguay. No viral diseases have been detected in shrimp populations in the Uruguayan territory. The presence of viral pathogens, such as White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV) and Infectious Hypodermal Haematopoietic Necrosis Virus (IHHNV) in wild shrimp populations has been previously reported in Brazil and Argentina. We investigated the presence of WSSV in wild populations of penaeid shrimp from Rocha Lagoon, Uruguay. We sampled 70 specimens of juvenile P. paulensis and assessed the presence of these viral pathogens using nested PCR and histology. Gill tissue from the 70 samples was divided into 14 pools of 5 individuals for DNA extraction and PCR analysis. We also retested each pooled sample individually. The nested PCR procedure described in the WOAH aquatic animal manual was used. A subset of 20 individual specimens were also processed using standard histological techniques. The results showed that WSSV was not detected in the pooled or individually tested samples. We found no evidence of the presence of the viral genome or gill lesions in the samples analysed. This indicates that the fishery is still likely to be free of WSSV infection. Introduction: The dST-Tiso is a newly proposed electrocardiographic (ECG) marker during Brugada (BrS) type I pattern, that predicts the likelihood of ventricular arrhythmia (VA) inducibility in patients with ajmaline-induced pattern. The objective of this study was to validate the effectiveness of this criterion using an independent data set., Methods: Consecutive patients exhibiting a BrS type I ECG pattern following ajmaline administration underwent programmed ventricular stimulation (PVS). dST-Tiso interval was measured in all patients and tested as a predictor for positive VA inducibility., Results: Among 128 patients (median age 43 years, 59% male) with drug-induced BrS type I ECG pattern who underwent PVS, 32 (25.0%) had VA inducibility that required defibrillation. Compared to noninducible subjects, those with positive PVS were more commonly male (81% vs. 51%, p = 0.003), had longer PQ (165 vs. 160 ms, p = 0.016) and dST-Tiso (310 vs. 230 ms, p < 0.001) intervals, and shorter QT interval (412 vs. 420 ms, p = 0.022). When treated as a continuous variable, dST-Tiso confirmed significant association with VA inducibility, with an adjusted odds ratio of 1.02 (95% confidence interval: 1.01-1.03, p < 0.001) for each 1 ms increase in duration. A dST-Tiso interval >300 ms yielded a sensitivity of 75%, a specificity of 86%, and positive and negative predictive values of 69% and 91%, respectively., Conclusion: The validation of the model based on the dST-Tiso interval >300 ms confirmed its high accuracy in predicting VA inducibility in drug-induced BrS type I pattern. Introduction: Patients with Brugada syndrome (BrS) face an increased risk of ventricular arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death. Implantable cardiac monitors (ICMs) have emerged as effective tools for detecting arrhythmias in BrS. Technological advancements, including temperature sensors and improved subcutaneous electrocardiogram (subECG) signal quality, hold promise for further enhancing their utility in this population., Methods and Results: We present a case of a 40-year-old man exhibiting a BrS type 2 pattern on 12-lead ECG, who underwent ICM insertion (BIOMONITOR IIIm, BIOTRONIK) due to drug-induced BrS type 1 pattern and a history of syncope, with a negative response to programmed ventricular stimulation. The device contains an integrated temperature sensor and can transmit daily vital data, such as mean heart rate and physical activity. Several months later, remote alerts indicated a temperature increase, along with transmitted subECGs suggesting a fever-induced BrS type 1 pattern. The patient was promptly advised to commence antipyretic therapy. Over the following days, remotely monitored parameters showed decreases in mean temperature, physical activity, and mean heart rate, without further recurrence of abnormal subECGs., Conclusion: ICMs offer valuable insights beyond arrhythmia detection in BrS. Objectives: Radiation proctitis is a misunderstanding complication of chemoradiation in locally advanced cervical cancer. The objective of our study is to provide a detailed description and analysis of predictive factors associated with radiation proctitis in a retrospective cohort of patients treated by chemoradiation for locally advanced cervical cancer., Methods: All patients treated by exclusive chemoradiation or chemoradiation followed by brachytherapy for locally advanced cervical cancer from 2011 to 2017 were included in the study. A bivariate analysis was conducted to establish correlations between the occurrence of radiation proctitis and various clinical and technical variables., Results: A total of 128 patients were included in the study. The mean dose (SD) to the planning target volume was 47.1 Gy (6.2). Fifty-nine (46.1%) patients underwent brachytherapy. Sixteen patients (12.5%) developed radiation proctitis, grade 2 or higher in 12 patients (9.3%). In univariate analysis, anticoagulant or antiplatelet treatments ( P =0.039), older age ( P =0.049), rectal volume irradiated at 40 Gy ( P =0.01) and 30 Gy ( P =0.037) were significantly associated with the occurrence of a grade ≥2 radiation proctitis. The delivered dose to 2 cm 3 of rectum (D2cm 3 ) showed a potential association with the occurrence of radiation proctitis of all grades ( P =0.064)., Conclusions: This study highlights clinical and technical factors that should be considered in assessing the risk of radiation proctitis. Human-wildlife conflict is an important factor in the modern biodiversity crisis and has negative effects on both humans and wildlife (such as property destruction, injury, or death) that can impede conservation efforts for threatened species. Effectively addressing conflict requires an understanding of where it is likely to occur, particularly as climate change shifts wildlife ranges and human activities globally. Here, we examine how projected shifts in cropland density, human population density, and climatic suitability-three key drivers of human-elephant conflict-will shift conflict pressures for endangered Asian and African elephants to inform conflict management in a changing climate. We find that conflict risk (cropland density and/or human population density moving into the 90th percentile based on current-day values) increases in 2050, with a larger increase under the high-emissions "regional rivalry" SSP3 - RCP 7.0 scenario than the low-emissions "sustainability" SSP1 - RCP 2.6 scenario. We also find a net decrease in climatic suitability for both species along their extended range boundaries, with decreasing suitability most often overlapping increasing conflict risk when both suitability and conflict risk are changing. Our findings suggest that as climate changes, the risk of conflict with Asian and African elephants may shift and increase and managers should proactively mitigate that conflict to preserve these charismatic animals., Competing Interests: Competing interests statement:The authors declare no competing interest.

Objectives: The authors report their experience of a protocol for deep sedation with ketamine in spontaneous respiration during the pulsed-field ablation (PFA) of atrial fibrillation (AF)., Design: Observational, prospective, nonrandomized fashion., Setting: Single-center hospitalized patients., Participants: All consecutive patients undergoing PFA of AF., Interventions: Patients undergoing deep sedation with intravenous ketamine., Measurements and Main Results: The authors' sedation protocol involves the intravenous administration of fentanyl (1.5 µg/kg) and midazolam (2 mg) at low doses before local anesthesia with lidocaine. A ketamine adjunct (1 mg/kg) in 5-minute boluses was injected about 5 minutes before the first PFA delivery. The authors enrolled 117 patients (age = 59 ± 10 y, 74.4% males, body mass index = 27.6 ± 5 kg/m 2 , fluoroscopy time = 24 ± 14 minutes, skin-to-skin time = 80 ± 40 minutes and PFA LA dwell time = 24 ± 7 minutes). By the end of the procedure, pulmonary vein isolation had been achieved in all patients using PFA alone. The mean time under sedation was 54.9 ± 6 minutes, with 92 patients (79%) being sedated for <1 hour. A satisfactory Ramsay Sedation Scale level before ketamine administration was achieved in all patients, except one (80.3% of the patients with rank 3; 18.4% with rank 2). In all procedures, the satisfaction level was found acceptable by both the patient and the primary operator (satisfactory in 98.2% of cases). All patients achieved a Numeric Rating Scale for Pain ≤3 (none or mild).
