En 1840, Frédéric Moreau rêve de passions intenses et de grands succès artistiques. Troublé par les charmes de Mme Arnoux, installée à Paris, il tente de la revoir. Enfin, dans « Monsieur Bergeret à Paris », nous assistons à la vie dans la Capitale, encore sous le choc des derniers soubresauts de l'affaire Dreyfus.
