Semiconductor nanowires (NWs) are believed to play a crucial role for future applications in electronics, spintronics and quantum technologies. A potential candidate is HgTe but its sensitivity to nanofabrication processes restrain its development. A way to circumvent this obstacle is the selective area growth technique. Here, in-plane HgTe nanostructures are grown thanks to selective area molecular beam epitaxy on a semi-insulating CdTe substrate covered with a patterned SiO 2 mask. The shape of these nanostructures is defined by the in-plane orientation of the mask aperture along the <110>, <11¯0>, or <100> direction, the deposited thickness, and the growth temperature (GT). Several micron long in-plane NWs can be achieved as well as more complex nanostructures such as networks, diamond structures or rings. A good selectivity is achieved with very little parasitic growth on the mask even for a GT as low as 140 °C and growth rate up to 0.5 monolayer per second. For <110> oriented NWs, the center of the nanostructure exhibits a trapezoidal shape with {111}B facets and two grains on the sides, while <11¯0> oriented NWs show {111}A facets with adatoms accumulation on the sides of the top surface. Transmission electron microscopy observations reveal a continuous epitaxial relation between the CdTe substrate and the HgTe NW. Measurements of the resistance with four-point scanning tunneling microscopy indicates a good electrical homogeneity along the main NW axis and a thermally activated transport. Generation and subsequently accessibility of secondary findings (SF) in diagnostic practice is a subject of debate around the world and particularly in Europe. The French FIND study has been set up to assess patient/parent expectations regarding SF from exome sequencing (ES) and to collect their real-life experience until 1 year after the delivery of results. 340 patients who had ES for undiagnosed developmental disorders were included in this multicenter mixed study (quantitative N = 340; qualitative N = 26). Three groups of actionable SF were rendered: predisposition to late-onset actionable diseases; genetic counseling; pharmacogenomics. Participants expressed strong interest in obtaining SF and a high satisfaction level when a SF is reported. The medical actionability of the SF reinforced parents' sense of taking action for their child and was seen as an opportunity. While we observed no serious psychological concerns, we showed that these results could have psychological consequences, in particular for late-onset actionable diseases SF, within families already dealing with rare diseases. This study shows that participants remain in favor of accessing SF despite the potential psychological, care, and lifestyle impacts, which are difficult to anticipate. The use of metal-on-metal bearing couples in total hip arthroplasty can lead to an increased release of metal ions, particularly cobalt and chromium over time. This can lead to local and systemic metallosis, which has cytotoxic, genotoxic, and immunotoxic effects and can cause a host of secondary disorders. We describe the case of a 37-year-old female patient that was diagnosed with warm-antibody autoimmune hemolytic anemia (WAIHA) one and a half years after bilateral large-diameter head metal-on-metal total hip arthroplasty. For 11 years, it was refractory to all therapy, including splenectomy and rituximab, requiring long-term oral prednisone for disease control. Ultimately, systemic metallosis and periprosthetic joint infection were diagnosed, requiring explantation of the prostheses. By the sixth week postoperatively, she experienced complete spontaneous remission of her WAIHA. In conclusion, WAIHA can be associated with systemic metallosis in patients with metal-on-metal prosthetic joint replacements. X-ray ptychography and ptychographic computed tomography have seen a rapid rise since the advent of fourth-generation synchrotrons with a high degree of coherent radiation. In addition to quantitative multiscale structural analysis, ptychography with spectral capabilities has been developed, allowing for spatial-localized multiscale structural and spectral information of samples. The SWING beamline of Synchrotron SOLEIL has recently developed a nanoprobe setup where the endstation's first spectral and resonant ptychographic measurements have been successfully conducted. A metallic nickel wire sample was measured using 2D spectral ptychography in XANES mode and resonant ptychographic tomography. From the 2D spectral ptychography measurements, the spectra of the components of the sample's complex-valued refractive index, δ and β, were extracted, integrated along the sample thickness. By performing resonance ptychographic tomography at two photon energies, 3D maps of the refractive index decrement, δ, were obtained at the Ni K-edge energy and another energy above the edge. These maps allowed the detection of impurities in the Ni wire. The significance of accounting for the atomic scattering factor is demonstrated in the calculation of electron density near a resonance through the use of the δ values. These results indicate that at the SWING beamline it is possible to conduct state-of-the-art spectral and resonant ptychography experiments using the nanoprobe setup., (open access.)

Objective: If a small for gestational age (SGA) foetus needs to be delivered because of severity (<3rd centile) attempting induction of labor theoretically increases the risk of caesarean section and neonatal acidosis, but these risks are poorly understood. This article aims to assess the risk of caesarean section and neonatal acidosis in attempted vaginal birth of a moderately preterm foetus in the setting of severe SGA., Method: A single-centre hospital-based observational study conducted over a period of 17 consecutive years in mothers with a single foetus in cephalic presentation with severe SGA (<3rd centile) needing foetal extraction. Neonatal acidosis was considered moderate if pH<7.10 and severe if pH<7.0. The degree of severity of SGA was estimated according to the birth weight ratio., Results: Four hundred and thirty-four foetuses with severe SGA were included during the period, 140 of whom were born after induction (32.3%). In this group, 66.4% of women achieved a vaginal birth (66.4%; 95% CI [58.0-74.2]) and the risk of moderate or severe acidosis was doubled compared with the group of foetuses who had undergone a planned caesarean section (7.9% vs. 3.1%, OR=2.7 [1.1-6.7]). Neither gestational age nor the degree of growth restriction was significantly related to the risk of caesarean section or to the risk of moderate or severe neonatal acidosis., Conclusion: In cases of severe SGA before 37weeks' gestation, induction of labour allows vaginal delivery in two-thirds of cases. X-ray ptychography is a coherent diffraction imaging technique based on acquiring multiple diffraction patterns obtained through the illumination of the sample at different partially overlapping probe positions. The diffraction patterns collected are used to retrieve the complex transmittivity function of the sample and the probe using a phase retrieval algorithm. Absorption or phase contrast images of the sample as well as the real and imaginary parts of the probe function can be obtained. Furthermore, X-ray ptychography can also provide spectral information of the sample from absorption or phase shift images by capturing multiple ptychographic projections at varying energies around the resonant energy of the element of interest. However, post-processing of the images is required to extract the spectra. To facilitate this, ProSPyX, a Python package that offers the analysis tools and a graphical user interface required to process spectral ptychography datasets, is presented. Using the PyQt5 Python open-source module for development and design, the software facilitates extraction of absorption and phase spectral information from spectral ptychographic datasets. It also saves the spectra in file formats compatible with other X-ray absorption spectroscopy data analysis software tools, streamlining integration into existing spectroscopic data analysis pipelines. To illustrate its capabilities, ProSPyX was applied to process the spectral ptychography dataset recently acquired on a nickel wire at the SWING beamline of the SOLEIL synchrotron., (open access.)
