Most of the optical behaviors in photoelectric multifunctional ceramics strongly depend on the addition of rare‐earth elements. However, the limited species of rare‐earth cations available as luminescence centers restrict the further development of photoelectric devices. Additionally, introducing the large atomic‐radii elements usually dramatically deteriorates the piezoelectric properties. Herein, the novel photochromism and luminescence modulation properties have been realized in CuO‐doped [(K0.43Na0.57)0.94Li0.06][(Nb0.94Sb0.06)0.95Ta0.05]O3 (KNLNST) piezoelectric ceramics which show intense sensitivity to visible‐light irradiation. As a strategy for regulating oxygen vacancy concentrations in piezoelectric ceramics, different CuO amounts are doped to generate color centers for photochromism. The photoluminescence phenomenon exhibiting green emission under 375 nm excitation is observed in KNLNST piezoelectric ceramics, which is most commonly realized via rare‐earth doping in luminescent materials. KNLNST–0.3CuO ceramics with the highest oxygen vacancy concentration achieve a reversible luminescence modulation of 46.9% by altering light irradiation and thermal stimulus. Moreover, a hand‐rewritable optical information test demonstrates exceptional reproducibility and fatigue durability. This research displays the controllable photochromism and luminescence behaviors in ceramics via regulating oxygen vacancy concentration by CuO "hard" doping. The lead‐free high performance photoelectric ceramics fulfill the demands of potential applications in anti‐counterfeiting and optical storage devices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Metal-support interactions (MSI) play a crucial role in enhancing the catalytic activity and stability of metal catalysts by establishing a stable metal-oxide interface. However, precisely controlling MSI at the atomic scale remains a significant challenge, as how to construct an optimal MSI is still not fully understood: Both insufficient and excessive MSI showed inferior catalytic performance. In this study, we propose finely tuning MSI using temporal-precise transient high-temperature pulse heating. Using Pt/CeO 2 as a model system, we systematically investigate how variations in pulse duration and atmosphere influence the reconstruction of the metal-support interface and MSIs. This leads to the formation of two distinct types of MSI: (1) strong MSI (SMSI, Pt@CeO 2 ) and (2) reactive MSI (RMSI, Pt 5 Ce@CeO 2 ), each with unique compositions, structures, and electrochemical behaviors. Notably, Pt 5 Ce@CeO 2 with RMSI exhibits remarkable catalytic performance in the alkaline hydrogen evolution, showing an overpotential of -29 mV and stable operation for over 300 h at -10 mA·cm -2 . Theoretical studies reveal that alloying Pt with Ce to form Pt 5 Ce modifies the electronic structure of Pt, shifting the d-band center to optimize the adsorption and dissociation of intermediates, thereby reducing the reaction energy barrier. Moreover, the intimate interaction of Pt 5 Ce with CeO 2 further improves the activity and stability. Our strategy enables precise, stepwise, and controllable regulation of MSIs, providing insights for the development of highly efficient and durable heterostructured catalysts with optimal MSI for a wide range of catalytic applications.

Growth differentiation factor 9 (GDF9), an oocyte-secreted factor, plays a vital role in porcine oocyte development. However, its function during oocyte in vitro maturation (IVM) remains unclear. In this study, we achieved GDF9 editing in approximately 59 % of cultured oocytes by cytoplasmic injection of a pre-assembled crRNA-tracrRNA-Cas9 ribonucleoprotein complex into porcine oocytes at the germinal vesicle (GV) stage. GDF9 editing caused significant damage to porcine oocytes during IVM. Additionally, GDF9 editing impaired mitochondrial function, increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation, and decreased glutathione (GSH) levels. The impaired IVM of GDF9-edited porcine oocytes was primarily driven by active cAMP-PKA signaling, which inhibited MOS expression, leading to the activation of the WEE1B/MYT1 kinase and inactivation of CDC25B phosphatase. This cascade resulted in the inactivation of CDK1, thereby preventing the activation of maturation-promoting factor (MPF) and inhibiting first polar body (PB1) extrusion. Dielectric capacitors with high energy storage performance are highly desired for advanced power electronic devices and systems. Even though strenuous efforts have been dedicated to closing the gap of energy storage density between the dielectric capacitors and the electrochemical capacitors/batteries, a single-minded pursuit of high energy density without a near-zero energy loss for ultrahigh energy efficiency as the grantee is in vain. Herein, for the purpose of decoupling the inherent conflicts between high polarization and low electric hysteresis (loss), and achieving high energy storage density and efficiency simultaneously in multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs), we propose an interlaminar strain engineering strategy to modulate the domain structure and manipulate the polarization behavior of the dielectric mediums. With a heterogeneous layered structure consisting of different antiferroelectric ceramics [(Pb 0.9 Ba 0.04 La 0.04 )(Zr 0.65 Sn 0.3 Ti 0.05 )O 3 /(Pb 0.95 Ba 0.02 La 0.02 )(Zr 0.6 Sn 0.4 )O 3 /(Pb 0.92 Ca 0.06 La 0.02 )(Zr 0.6 Sn 0.4 ) 0.995 O 3 ], our MLCC exhibits a giant recoverable energy density of 22.0 J cm -3 with an ultrahigh energy efficiency of 96.1%. The global water and energy crisis seems to be mitigated with promising prospects of emerging interdisciplinary hybrid solar-driven evaporator technology (IHSE). However, the lack of numeric standards for comparison between enormously reported systems and the synergistic effects of interdisciplinary hybridization remains a significant challenge. To entice researchers from various domains to collaborate on the design of a system for realistic, large-scale applications, this study provides a comprehensive overview of the interdisciplinary approaches to IHSE from the domains of physics, chemistry, materials science, and engineering, along with their guiding principles and underlying challenges. First, an in-depth analysis of IHSE with the basic scientific foundations and current advancements in recent years is discussed. Then, the physical principles/scientific principles alongside the overall system improvement enhancement techniques at the macro and micro scale are highlighted. Furthermore, the review analyzes the impact of significant physical factors that alter or restrict the efficiency of IHSE, as well as their connection and potential regulation. In addition, a comprehensive study of emerging sustainable applications for insight into the design and optimization of IHSE is provided for scientists from different fields. Dielectric ceramics with high energy storage performance are crucial for the development of advanced high-power capacitors. However, achieving ultrahigh recoverable energy storage density and efficiency remains challenging, limiting the progress of leading-edge energy storage applications. In this study, (Bi 1/2 Na 1/2 )TiO 3 (BNT) is selected as the matrix, and the effects of different A-site elements on domain morphology, lattice polarization, and dielectric and ferroelectric properties are systematically investigated. Mg, La, Ca, and Sr are shown to enhance relaxation behavior by different magnitudes; hence, a high-entropy strategy for designing local polymorphic distortions is proposed. Based on atomic-scale investigations, a series of BNT-based high-entropy compositions are designed by introducing trace amounts of Mg and La to improve the electric breakdown strength and further disrupt the polar nanoscale regions (PNRs). A disordered polarization distribution and ultrasmall PNRs with a minimum size of ≈1 nm are detected in the high-entropy ceramics. Ultimately, a high recoverable energy density of 10.1 J cm -3 and an efficiency of 90% are achieved for (Ca 0.2 Sr 0.2 Ba 0.2 Mg 0.05 La 0.05 Bi 0.15 Na 0.15 )TiO 3 . Furthermore, it displays a high-power density of 584 MW cm -3 and an ultrashort discharge time of 27 ns. Ceramic capacitors with ultrahigh power density are crucial in modern electrical applications, especially under high-temperature conditions. However, the relatively low energy density limits their application scope and hinders device miniaturization and integration. In this work, we present a high-entropy BaTiO 3 -based relaxor ceramic with outstanding energy storage properties, achieving a substantial recoverable energy density of 10.9 J/cm 3 and a superior energy efficiency of 93% at applied electric field of 720 kV/cm. Of particular importance is that the studied high-entropy composition exhibits excellent energy storage performance across a wide temperature range of -50 to 260 °C, with variation below 9%, additionally, it demonstrates great cycling reliability at 450 kV/cm and 200 °C up to 10 6 cycles. Electrical and in-situ structural characterizations revealed that the high-entropy engineered local structures are highly stable under varying temperature and electric fields, leading to superior energy storage performance.
