Global warming is causing glaciers to retreat and glacial lakes to expand in the Himalayas, which amplifies the risk of glacial lake outburst debris flows (GLODFs) and poses a significant threat to downstream lives and infrastructures. However, the complex interplay between GLODF occurrences and associated indicators, coupled with the lack of a comprehensive susceptibility indicator system that considers the entire GLODF process, presents a substantial challenge in assessing GLODF susceptibility in the Himalayas. This study proposes a process-driven GLODF susceptibility assessment indicator system responding to climate change that considers the complete process of GLODF formation, incorporating relevant parameters about upstream, themselves, and downstream of glacial lakes. Furthermore, to mitigate subjective factors associated with traditional evaluation methods, we developed three novel hybrid machine-learning models by integrating classic machine-learning algorithms with the whale optimization algorithm (WOA) to delineate the distribution of GLODF susceptibility in the Himalayas. All the hybrid models effectively predicted the GLODFs occurrence, with the WOA-SVC model demonstrating the highest prediction accuracy. Approximately 34% of the catchments exhibit high and very high susceptibility levels, primarily concentrated along the north and south sides of the Himalayan ridge, particularly in the eastern and central Himalayas. Indicators capturing the physical formation process of hazards, such as topographic potential (highest relative importance value of 40%), can precisely identify GLODF. A total of 128 catchments pose potential transboundary threats, with 24 classified as having a very high susceptibility level and 25 as having a high susceptibility level. Notably, the border region between China and Nepal is a prominent hotspot for transboundary threats of GLODF. These findings can provide valuable clues for disaster prevention, mitigation, and cross-border coordination in the Himalayas.

Background Despite the crucial role of mindfulness and self-care in nurses’ physical and mental health, as well as their professional well-being, most nurses exhibit low levels of self-care. Moreover, there is a lack of understanding of the diverse subgroups of mindful self-care among nurses.Objectives The present study delved into the diverse groups of mindful self-care among nurses and investigated the correlation between these groups and their mental health.Methods Convenience sampling was used to select nurses from Guizhou province, China, from August to September 2023. A total of 1020 nurses were investigated, and 1001 questionnaires were included, for an effective return rate of 98.1%. The demographic characteristics questionnaire, Chinese version of the Brief Mindful Self-Care Scale, Patient Health Questionnaire-9, Generalised Anxiety Disorder-7 and Perceived Stress Scale were used. Latent profile analysis was performed on the characteristics of nurses’ mindful self-care, and the correlations between the latent profiles, demographic characteristics and mental well-being were identified using chi-square tests, Spearman correlation analyses and non-parametric tests.Results A total of 1001 nurses were included, and they were divided into four heterogeneous subgroups: the Inconsistent Mindful Self-Care Group (4.40%), Balanced Development Group (43.36%), Moderate Mindful Self-Care Group (39.36%), and High Mindful Self-Care Group (12.89%). Results of single factor analysis showed that the nurses’ department and average monthly income were the factors influencing the potential profiles. Mindful self-care negatively correlated with anxiety and depression but was not correlated with perceived stress. There were significant differences in perceived stress, anxiety and depression between different mindful self-care groups.Conclusion The present study used latent profile analysis to identify four distinct subgroups of hospital nurses based on their mindful self-care and revealed varying levels of anxiety, depression and perceived stress between groups. These results emphasise the need for tailored mindful self-care strategies to promote nurses’ well-being.

Introduction Dementia is a growing public health concern, and providing long-term care for individuals affected by this condition is challenging for their family caregivers. While researchers have explored various intervention options to provide psychological support for dementia caregivers, mentalising imagery therapy (MIT) has gained significant recognition as an effective programme. Despite its significance and effectiveness, there is a lack of comprehensive scoping reviews of MIT in dementia caregiving. Thus, conducting such a review can provide valuable insights into the status and outcomes of MIT, identify gaps in existing research and provide recommendations for a more effective clinical practice.Methods and analysis This study proposes a scoping review conducted according to the Joanna Briggs Institute, Arksey and O’Malley’s methodological framework, as well as the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses-Scoping Review Extension. PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Scopus, CINAHL and PsycINFO databases will be searched while grey literature will be retrieved via Google Scholar. Covidence will be used to manage the literature selection process and remove duplicate publications. Two researchers will independently screen the literature according to the inclusion criteria, with any discrepancies resolved through discussions with a third researcher. Data will be presented in a structured tabular format, with a narrative synthesis providing an overview of the findings on the identified research gaps and the effectiveness of MIT in the field of dementia caregiving.Ethics and dissemination In a scoping review, no ethical approval is necessary. The results will be published in a peer-reviewed journal.Trial registration number The scoping review protocol has been registered with Open Science Framework (https://doi.org/10.17605/OSF.IO/FHRG8).

The cultivation of largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides), a species of significant economic value in aquaculture, has experienced notable growth recently. However, the deterioration of water quality seriously affects the metabolic responses of M. salmoides. While compound microbial agent (CMA) is widely utilized for ecological rehabilitation and water filtration, its application in M. salmoides has not been reported. Here, based on physio-biochemical tests and 16S rRNA sequencing, we investigated the effects of CMA (yeast, Bacillus subtilis, and lactic acid bacteria) on the water quality within the recirculating aquaculture system, along with physiological indices and gut microbiota of M. salmoides. Compared to the control and single microbial agent (yeast), CMA treatment improved the water quality by improving the dissolved oxygen and delaying the increase of pH, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, ammonia nitrogen, and nitrite. The 16s rRNA gene sequencing revealed that the water treated with CMA exhibited elevated levels of chao1, Shannon, Pd, and a larger population of dominant bacterial. Besides, higher values of ACE, chao1, Shannon, and OTU level, and lower Simpson index were found in CMA treated M. salmoides samples, suggesting that CMA treatment enhanced the species richness and diversity of gut microbiota of M. salmoides. Furthermore, CMA treatment hindered the generation and proliferation of harmful bacteria, such as the Mycoplasma mobile 163K species and the Erysipelotrichaceae family, which was associated with enhanced antioxidant enzymatic activity and decreased MDA level in both the serum and liver. These findings shed light on the essential roles of CMA in M. salmoides culturing and introduce an innovative approach to enhance the aquatic environment.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effect of internal heat exchanger on the performance of transcritical CO2 two-stage compression/ejector refrigeration system. Methods: The simulation software was used to analyze the effects of the internal heat exchanger on the suction temperature, discharge temperature, specific work increment of the low-pressure compressor and system performance coefficient under different gas cooler outlet temperatures (25～45 ℃), high-pressure side discharge pressure (7.4～9.5 MPa), evaporation temperature (-40～-15 ℃) and intermediate pressure (3～5 MPa). Results: With the increase of intermediate pressure, the discharge temperature and specific work increment of the low-pressure compressor increased at a specific regenerative degree. However, with the increase in evaporation temperature, the discharge temperature and specific work increment of the low-pressure compressor gradually decrease. Under the control of this standard conditions, the coefficient of performance of the regenerative system is lower than that of the system without regenerative, and the energy efficiency of the regenerative system decreases with the increase of the regenerative degree. Conclusion: The suction temperature, discharge temperature, and specific work increment of the low-pressure compressor all rise significantly as the internal heat exchanger increases. However, the internal heat exchanger does not improve the performance of transcritical CO2 two-stage compression/ejector refrigeration system.

The morphological development of rice (Oryza sativa L.) leaves is closely related to plant architecture, physiological activities, and resistance. However, it is unclear whether there is a co-regulatory relationship between the morphological development of leaves and adaptation to drought environment. In this study, a drought-sensitive, roll-enhanced, and narrow-leaf mutant (renl1) was induced from a semi-rolled leaf mutant (srl1) by ethyl methane sulfonate (EMS), which was obtained from Nipponbare (NPB) through EMS. Map-based cloning and functional validation showed that RENL1 encodes a cellulose synthase, allelic to NRL1/OsCLSD4. The RENL1 mutation resulted in reduced vascular bundles, vesicular cells, cellulose, and hemicellulose contents in cell walls, diminishing the water-holding capacity of leaves. In addition, the root system of the renl1 mutant was poorly developed and its ability to scavenge reactive oxygen species (ROS) was decreased, leading to an increase in ROS after drought stress. Meanwhile, genetic results showed that RENL1 and SRL1 synergistically regulated cell wall components. Our results revealed a theoretical basis for further elucidating the molecular regulation mechanism of cellulose on rice drought tolerance, and provided a new genetic resource for enhancing the synergistic regulation network of plant type and stress resistance, thereby realizing simultaneous improvement of multiple traits in rice.

Porous carbon materials have gained increasing attention in catalysis applications due to their tailorable surface properties, large specific surface area, excellent thermal stability, and low cost. Even though porous carbon materials have been employed for thermal-catalytic dry reforming of methane (DRM), the structure–function relationship, especially the critical factor affecting catalytic performance, is still under debate. Herein, various porous carbon-based samples with disparate pore structures and surface properties are prepared by alkali (K2CO3) etching and the following CO2 activation of low-cost petroleum pitch. Detailed characterization clarifies that the quinone/ketone carbonyl functional groups on the carbon surface are the key active sites for DRM. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations also show that the C=O group have the lowest transition state energy barrier for CH4* cleavage to CH3* (2.15 eV). Furthermore, the cooperative interplay between the specific surface area and quinone/ketone carbonyl is essential to boost the cleavage of C-H and C-O bonds, guaranteeing enhanced DRM catalytic performance. The MC-600-800 catalyst exhibited an initial CH4 conversion of 51% and a reaction rate of 12.6 mmolCH4 gcat.−1 h−1 at 800 °C, CH4:CO2:N2= 1:1:8, and GHSV = 6000 mL gcat.−1 h−1. Our work could pave the way for the rational design of metal-free carbon-based DRM catalysts and shed new light on the high value-added utilization of heavy oils.

Objectives To examine whether patients who had a stroke with high recurrence risk perception would have healthier behaviour and to explore whether perceived social support would function as a mediator.Design A cross-sectional study.Setting The study was conducted in a public tertiary hospital in China.Participants A total of 254 patients with stroke were invited to participate, and 250 patients with stroke completed questionnaires validly.Primary and secondary outcome measures Questionnaires were administered offline to collect data, consisting of four parts: general demographics and scales related to recurrence risk perception, perceived social support, and health behaviour. A path analysis and correlation analysis were used to analyse the data.Results Out of 250 patients with stroke, 78.4% had moderately low health behaviour.
