This work presents a study on the optical and mechanical degradation of parabolic trough collector absorber coatings produced through the spray coating application technique of in-house developed paint. The main aim of this investigation is to prepare, cure, load, and analyze the absorber coating on the substrate under conditions that mimic the on-field thermal properties. This research incorporates predicted isothermal and cyclic loads for parabolic trough systems as stresses. Biweekly inspections of loaded, identical samples monitored the degradation process. We further used the cascade of data from optical, oxide-thickening, crack length, and pull-off force measurements in mathematical modelling to predict the service life of the parabolic trough collector. The results collected and used in modelling suggested that cyclic load in combination with iso-thermal load is responsible for coating fatigue, influencing the solar absorber optical values and resulting in lower energy transformation efficiency. Finally, easy-to-apply coatings made out of spinel-structured black pigment and durable binder could serve as a low-cost absorber coating replacement for a new generation of parabolic trough collectors, making it possible to harvest solar energy to provide medium-temperature heat to decarbonize future food, tobacco, and paint production industrial processes. Textile dyes discharged into aquatic systems can have significant environmental impacts, causing water pollution and toxicity to aquatic life, and constituting a human health risk. To manage these effects, the sorption ability of wood biowaste chemically modified by Bi2O3 for textile dye removal was investigated. Sorbent characterization was performed using scanning electron microscopy, and elemental analysis by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD), the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) method for the specific surface area, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy–attenuated total reflectance (FTIR-ATR). The optimization of the sorption process was carried out, and optimal parameters, such as contact time, pH, the dose of sorbent, the concentration of dye, and temperature, were defined. Also, desorption studies were conducted. Kinetics and isotherms studies were carried out, and the data fits to a pseudo-second order model (r2 ≥ 0.99) and Langmuir model (r2 ≥ 0.99), indicating that the process occurs in the monolayer form and the dye sorption depends on the active sites of the sorbent surface. In healthcare facilities, infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) from textile materials are a cause for concern, and nanomaterials are one of the solutions; however, their impact on safety and biocompatibility with the human body must not be neglected. This study aimed to develop a novel multilayer coating with poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) and immobilized ZnO nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) to make efficient antibacterial and biocompatible cotton, polyester, and nylon textiles. For this purpose, the coated textiles were characterized with profilometry, contact angles, and electrokinetic analyzer measurements. The ZnO NPs on the textiles were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. The antibacterial tests were conducted with S. aureus and biocompatibility with immortalized human keratinocyte cells. The results demonstrated successful PAH/ZnO coating formation on the textiles, demonstrating weak hydrophobic properties. Furthermore, PAH multilayers caused complete ZnO NP immobilization on the coated textiles. All coated textiles showed strong growth inhibition (2–3-log reduction) in planktonic and adhered S. aureus cells. The bacterial viability was reduced by more than 99%. Cotton, due to its better ZnO NP adherence, demonstrated a slightly higher antibacterial performance than polyester and nylon. The coating procedure enables the binding of ZnO NPs in an amount (<30 µg cm−2) that, after complete dissolution, is significantly below the concentration causing cytotoxicity (10 µg mL−1).
