Abstract The relationship between exposure to ambient air pollutants and emergency attendance for upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB) remains inconclusive. This study examines the association between short‐term exposure to various ambient pollutants and the risk of UGIB emergency attendance. Data on daily UGIB emergency attendance, ambient pollutants, and meteorological conditions in Hong Kong were collected from 2017 to 2022. A time‐series study using a distributed lag non‐linear model to analyze the data, considering lag days. Stratified analysis was performed based on sex, seasons, and the COVID‐19 pandemic period. The burden was quantified using attributable fraction (AF) and number (AN). The study included 31,577 UGIB emergency records. Exposure to high levels of PM2.5 significantly increased the risk of UGIB emergency attendance from lag day 3 (RR: 1.012) to day 6 (RR: 1.008). High NO2 exposure also posed a significant risk from lag day 0 (RR: 1.026) to day 2 (RR: 1.014), and from lag day 5 (RR: 1.013) to day 7 (RR: 1.024). However, there was no association between UGIB and high O3 levels. The attributable burden of high‐concentration NO2 exposure was higher compared to those of PM2.5. Males and elderly individuals (≥65 years) faced a higher risk of UGIB emergencies, particularly during cold seasons. Our study suggests that both PM2.5 and NO2 exposure are associated with an increased risk of emergency attendance for UGIB. Ambient pollutant exposure has a stronger effect on UGIB in males and the elderly, particularly during cold seasons.

Temperature measurement of devices in working state is of critical importance. In this work, GaN-based thermistors and a thermopile are monolithically integrated with a III-nitride blue light-emitting diode (LED) for the on-chip temperature measurement of the LED. The thermistor is based on the temperature-dependent resistance, and the stacked thermopile is based on the Seebeck effect. The measured results indicate that both thermistors and the thermopile can monitor the temperature of the LED sensitively. Due to the advantages of higher sensitivity and easier signal processing, the thermopile is more suitable for real-time monitoring.

Recent discoveries in mRNA modification have highlighted N1-methyladenosine (m1A), but its role in preeclampsia (PE) pathogenesis remains unclear. In this study, we utilized methylated RNA immunoprecipitation sequencing (MeRIP-seq) and RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) to identify m1A peaks and the expression profile of mRNA in the decidua of humans with early-onset PE (EPE), late-onset PE (LPE), and normal pregnancy (NP). We assessed the m1A modification patterns in preeclamptic decidua using 10 m1A modulators. Our bioinformatic analysis focused on differentially methylated mRNAs (DMGs) and differentially expressed mRNAs (DEGs) in pairwise comparisons of EPE vs. NP, LPE vs. NP, and EPE vs. LPE, as well as m1A-related DEGs. The comparisons of EPE vs. NP, LPE vs. NP, and EPE vs. LPE identified 3110, 2801, and 2818 DMGs, respectively. We discerned three different m1A modification patterns from this data. Further analysis revealed that key PE-related DMGs and m1A-related DEGs predominantly influence signaling pathways critical for decidualization, including cAMP, MAPK, PI3K-Akt, Notch, and TGF-β pathways. Additionally, these modifications impact pathways related to vascular smooth muscle contraction, estrogen signaling, and relaxin signaling, contributing to vascular dysfunction. Our findings demonstrate that preeclamptic decidua exhibits unique mRNA m1A modification patterns and gene expression profiles that significantly alter signaling pathways essential for both decidualization and vascular dysfunction. These differences in m1A modification patterns provide valuable insights into the molecular mechanisms influencing the decidualization process and vascular function in the pathogenesis of PE. These m1A modification regulators could potentially serve as potent biomarkers or therapeutic targets for PE, warranting further investigation.

Abstract Background This study assessed the impact of pressure-controlled ventilation (PCV) focusing on end-inspiratory flow rate on the incidence of postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs) and inflammation levels in patients undergoing spinal surgery in the prone position. Methods A total of 187 patients who underwent posterior spinal surgery were enrolled and randomly divided into 3 groups: 61 in the volume-controlled ventilation (VCV) group (group V), 62 in the PCV-volume-guaranteed (VG) group (group P1), and 64 in the PCV-VG end-expiratory zero flow rate group (group P2). Indicators including tidal volume (VT), peak airway pressure (Ppeak), and dynamic lung compliance (Cdyn) were recorded. BackgroundThe rise in e-cigarette use among youth is a significant global public health issue. It is important to identify those at increased risk and implement effective strategies to reduce e-cigarette popularity among the youth.ObjectiveThis study aims to identify predictors of e-cigarette uptake in youths with no prior tobacco use, considering individual, familial and the broader societal environmental factors.MethodsFor this investigation, a group of 2,487 tobacco-free youths was selected from 15 high schools in Shenzhen, China. Susceptibility to e-cigarettes was determined by assessing the possibility of future use and the openness to trying e-cigarettes if presented by friends. Both chi-square tests and logistic regression were applied to identify factors linked to susceptibility to e-cigarette use.ResultsAmong the respondents, 5.5% (n = 136) were found to be susceptible to e-cigarette use. The analysis revealed factors tied to this risk: perceptions of e-cigarettes, the impact of vaping peers, paternal parenting styles, the extent of social support, exposure to messages both for and against e-cigarettes use, and secondhand smoke (SHS) exposure. Ascorbic acid (AsA) is an essential nutritional component and powerful antioxidant in vegetables, and in plants, AsA levels are regulated by light. AsA levels in the leaves of Chinese chive (Allium tuberosum Rottler ex Spr), a popular vegetable, are poorly understood. Thus, this study was performed to assess the influence of light on AsA biosynthesis in chive and select related genes (AtuGGP1 and AtuGME1); in addition, bioinformatic analyses and gene expression level assays were performed. The biological information obtained for AtuGGP1 and AtuGME1 was analysed with several tools, including NCBI, DNAMAN, and MEGA11. After different light treatments were performed, the Chive AsA content and AtuGGP1 and AtuGME1 expression levels were determined. These results suggest that 1) compared with natural light, continuous darkness inhibited AsA synthesis in chives. 2) The amino acid sequences of AtuGGP1 and AtuGME1 are very similar to those of other plants. 3) The trends observed for the expression levels of AtuGGP1 and AtuGME1 were consistent with the AsA content observed in chives. Hence, we speculated that light controls AsA biosynthesis in chives by regulating AtuGGP1 and AtuGME1 expression. This study provided impactful and informative evidence regarding the functions of GGP and GME in chives.

Hazardous impacts caused by harmful algal blooms (HABs) have facilitated the development of novel effective approaches for controlling the frequent HABs. Recently, bacteria with algicidal effects, as a promising alternative tool for eliminating the HABs-forming species have received wide concerns. In the present study, a marine bacterial strain 6A1 with potent algicidal activity was successfully isolated from a bloom of Akashiwo sanguinea, and the characteristics related to its algicidal action were systematically investigated. Sequencing results of 16S rDNA suggested that this bacterium belongs to the genus Arenibacter in the family Flavobacteriaceae, while the phylogenetic analysis revealed that Arenibacter sp. strain 6A1 was the only algicidal bacterium in Arenibacter to date, according to the best of our knowledge. Arenibacter sp. strain 6A1 had an extraordinarily high algicidal performance when it was added to A. sanguinea culture with a volume fraction of 1.5% for 2 h. The algicidal performance of strain 6A1 was concentration-dependent and time-dependent. The best algicidal efficacy of strain 6A1 was seen during the stationary phase, while the resistance of A. sanguinea to strain 6A1 declined as the growth cycle progressed. Subsequently, the indirect algicidal mode of Arenibacter sp. strain 6A1 was verified and the algicidal compounds produced by strain 6A1 were proved to be heat-resistant. Further research showed that strain 6A1 caused a severe damage in photosynthesis, oxidative stress, and also damage in three HABs-forming algae to varying degrees. The greatest algicidal performance was found on unarmored dinoflagellate A. sanguinea, followed by raphidophyte Chattonella antiqua and armored dinoflagellate Alexandrium tamarense. The Arenibacter sp. strain 6A1 exhibited selective algicidal activity on a wide range of algal species, primarily targeting Pyrrophyta and Ochrophyta. The proposed bacteria (strain 6A1) can be a powerful and eco-friendly tool for emergency treatment of HABs caused by certain algal species in coastal water bodies.

PurposeThe purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between education level and health behavior including sleep, work activity, exercise activity, and sedentary behavior among emerging adults.MethodsThis study utilized data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) collected between 2007 and 2018. The study sample included 4,484 emerging adults aged 18–25 years and the weighted participants were 30,057,813. Weighted multivariable regression analysis was performed to investigate the association between education level and the aforementioned health behavior, adjusting for age, gender, race/ethnicity, marital status, poverty-income ratio, BMI, smoking, and alcohol drinking status.ResultsThis study revealed that higher education level was associated with shorter sleep duration [Fully adjusted model, β (95% CI): −0.588 (−0.929, −0.246), p < 0.001]. Additionally, those with higher education levels were more likely to allocate time in sedentary behavior [β (95% CI): 90.162 (41.087, 139.238), p < 0.001]. Moreover, higher education level was related to less work activity [β (95% CI): −806.991 (−1,500.280, −113.703), p = 0.023] and more exercise activity time [β (95% CI): 118.196 (−21.992, 258.385), p = 0.097]. Subgroup analysis further verified this trend and detected that males with higher education level tended to participate in less work activity [β (95% CI): −1,139.972 (−2,136.707, −143.237), p = 0.026] while females with higher education level tended to engage in more exercise activity [Fully adjusted model, β (95% CI): 141.709 (45.468, 237.950), p = 0.004].ConclusionThis study highlighted the importance of education level as a significant factor in promoting healthy behavior among emerging adults. The findings underscored the need for the Ministry of Education to prioritize educating this demographic about the significance of maintaining adequate sleep patterns and reducing sedentary habits. Encouraging them to allocate more time for work and physical activities can significantly contribute to their overall wellbeing and success, ultimately fostering a healthier next generation.

Due to the influence of the Asian southwest monsoon, seasonal drought is serious and water resources are scarce in the Yunnan province of Southwest China. More effective water-saving irrigation methods should be developed to solve the problem of water scarcity in the dry season. In this study, a subsurface drip irrigation method was used to improve the water productivity of tomato cultivation. Deficit irrigation was conducted. We controlled the lower limit of soil moisture at three different levels (55~65%, 65~75%, and 75~85% of the field capacity). The results indicated that the subsurface drip irrigation treatment significantly increased tomato height in the later stage of tomato growth. Due to the buried pipes, the root/shoot ratio was 8~18% higher for subsurface drip irrigation than for surface drip irrigation methods. Though the yields using subsurface drip irrigation methods were slightly lower than those obtained using surface drip irrigation methods, the tomato quality and water productivity improved significantly. The subsurface drip irrigation methods improved the water productivity by 8.5~21.8% at different soil moisture levels and improved the chlorophyll content by 9.1~17.3%. The VC, soluble sugar, soluble solids, and the ratio of sugar to acid increased by 6.5~15.2%, 7.3~21.6%, 4.1~6.6%, and 3.2~20.8%. This study also indicated that by optimizing the irrigation methods and patterns, water productivity and fruit quality could be improved by more than 50%. This research will be helpful for guiding irrigation during the drought season in the southwest monsoon area in Asia.

The transition metal catalyzed cyclization of alkene‐tethered carbamoyl chloride has emerged as a tool to construct oxindoles bearing quaternary centers. Most of these reactions proceed via carbometalation‐initiated 5‐exo‐trig cyclization followed by nucleophilic trapping of the resulting σ alkyl‐metal species to achieve diverse functionalized oxindoles. The 6‐endo‐trig type cyclization of alkene‐tethered carbamoyl chloride has been rarely reported. Herein, a zinc‐mediated carbamoyl amination of alkylidenecyclopropane‐tethered carbamoyl chlorides with anilines for the synthesis of functionalized 2‐quinolones was developed. A range of different substituted 2‐quinolones were prepared in 65–89% yield from alkylidenecyclopropane‐tethered carbamoyl chlorides and aniline derivatives using a Zn/TMSCl system. Summary: Background: Optimal glycaemic control has well‐established health benefits in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM). It is uncertain whether optimal glycaemic control can benefit liver‐related outcomes. Aims: To examine the association of optimal glycaemic control with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and liver‐related mortality. Methods: In a population‐based cohort, we identified patients with newly diagnosed DM between 2001 and 2016 in Hong Kong. Optimal glycaemic control was defined as mean haemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) <7% during the 3‐year lead‐in period after DM diagnosis. By applying propensity score matching to balance covariates, we analysed glycaemic control via competing risk models with outcomes of interest being HCC and liver‐related mortality. Results: We identified 146,430 patients (52.2% males, mean age 61.4 ± 11.8 years). During a median follow‐up duration of 7.0 years, 1099 (0.8%) and 978 (0.7%) patients developed HCC and liver‐related deaths. Optimal glycaemic control, when compared to suboptimal glycaemic control, was associated with reduced risk of HCC (subdistribution hazard ratio [SHR] 0.70, 95% CI 0.61–0.79). The risk of HCC increased with incremental HbA1c increases beyond >7% (SHR 1.29–1.71). Significant associations with HCC were also found irrespective of age (SHR 0.54–0.80), sex (SHR 0.68–0.69), BMI <25 or ≥25 kg/m2 (SHR 0.63–0.75), smoking (SHR 0.61–0.72), hepatic steatosis (SHR 0.67–0.68) and aspirin/statin/metformin use (SHR 0.67–0.75). A lower risk of liver‐related mortality in relation to optimal glycaemic control was also observed (SHR 0.70, 95% CI 0.61–0.80). Conclusions: Glycaemic control is an independent risk factor for HCC and liver‐related mortality, and should be incorporated into oncoprotective strategies in the general DM population. Continuous scanning laser Doppler vibrometry (CSLDV) enables fast and full-field vibration measurement in an intact area of a structure. This paper further proposes a novel adaptive CSLDV method that can obtain the operational deflection shapes (ODS) and mode shape of structures with holes. Firstly, an adaptive path planning method is applied to the surface of the tested structure, which can automatically adapt to the size and position of round and square holes, as well as the resolution requirements for the measurement. Secondly, based on the symmetry and other characteristics of the planned path, the time domain signal is processed by delay optimization and demodulation to obtain the ODS of each vibration mode. Finally, a modal test is conducted on a flat structure with a square and circular holes as an example. A validation experiment is also performed using SLDV. The results show that the mode shapes obtained from both methods are consistent and the modal assurance criterion between them are all above 0.96. The method can realize CSLDV of flat plate structures with arbitrary square and round holes, and has the advantages of high efficiency and dense measurement points, which enhances its engineering applicability. Osteoporotic fracture is a prevalent noncommunicable disease globally, causing significant mortality, morbidity, and disability. As the population ages, the healthcare and economic burden of osteoporotic fracture is expected to increase further. Due to its multifactorial features, the development of osteoporotic fracture involves a complex interplay of multiple risk factors, including genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors. Helicobacter pylori, which infects approximately 43% of the world's population, has been associated with increased fracture risk due to hypochlorhydria from atrophic gastritis and systemic inflammation from elevated pro‐inflammatory cytokines. However, the potential impact of H. pylori infection and eradication on fracture risk remains contentious among various studies due to the study design and inadequate adjustment of confounding factors including baseline gastritis phenotype. In this review, we provided a comprehensive evaluation of the current evidence focusing on the underlying mechanisms and clinical evidence of the association between H. pylori infection and osteoporotic fracture. Introduction: The Baveno criteria for assessing advanced liver fibrosis were mainly determined by transient elastography (TE), and its pathology-based validation studies in two-dimensional shear wave elastography (2D-SWE) remain limited. We aimed to validate the Baveno criteria through use of 2D-SWE. Method: Consecutive patients who underwent liver biopsies for various benign liver diseases were prospectively recruited. Liver stiffness measurement (LSM) was simultaneously evaluated by TE and 2D-SWE. The optimal cutoff value to predict advanced liver fibrosis was determined by the Youden Index, and the diagnostic performance was estimated using area under the receiver operating characteristic (AUROC) analysis. Results: A total of 101 patients were enrolled having a median age of 55.0 (IQR: 46.0–63.5) years, with 53 (52.48%) of them being male. Using <9 and >14 kPa as the optimal dual cutoffs, the AUROC values in TE and 2D-SWE were 0.92 (95% CI: 0.83–0.97) and 0.93 (95% CI: 0.84–0.98), respectively (p = 0.61). The sensitivity and specificity of LSM by TE/2D-SWE achieved rates of 94.44%/94.44% and 86.00%/88.00%, respectively. However, using the Baveno criteria, the AUROC values in TE and 2D-SWE could remain achieving 0.91 (95% CI: 0.82–0.97) and 0.93 (95% CI: 0.84–0.98), respectively (p = 0.36). The sensitivity and specificity in TE/2D-SWE were 88.24%/88.24% and 86.79%/90.57%, respectively. Conclusion: This study establishes the compatibility of the Baveno dual cutoff criteria with 2D-SWE, positioning it as an easily used criteria in clinical practice and research. Background: We compared efficacy of vonoprazan‐dual or triple therapies and bismuth‐quadruple therapy for treatment‐naive Helicobacter pylori (HP) infection in Southern China, where primary resistance rates of clarithromycin and levofloxacin are >30%. Methods: This was an investigator‐initiated, three‐arm, randomized clinical trial in Southern China. Between March 2022 and August 2023, treatment‐naïve HP‐infected adults were randomly assigned to receive one of three 14‐day regimens (1:1:1 ratio): vonoprazan‐dual (VA‐dual; vonoprazan 20 mg twice daily and amoxicillin 1 g thrice daily), vonoprazan‐triple (VAC‐triple; vonoprazan 20 mg/amoxicillin 1 g/clarithromycin 500 mg twice daily), or bismuth‐quadruple therapy containing bismuth, esomeprazole, tetracycline, and metronidazole. Primary outcome was noninferiority in HP eradication, evaluated by UBT 4–6 weeks post‐treatment by intention‐to‐treat (ITT) and per‐protocol (PP) analysis (based on subjects who completed 14‐day treatment and rechecked UBT). Bonferroni‐adjusted p‐value of <0.017 was used to determine statistical significance. Results: A total of 298 subjects (mean age: 35.7 ± 8.4 years; male: 134 [45.0%]; VC‐dual: 100, VAC‐triple: 98, bismuth‐quadruple: 100) were enrolled, and 292 (98.0%) had UBT rechecked. ITT analysis showed that both VA‐dual (eradication rate of 96.0%) and VAC‐triple therapies (95.9%) were noninferior to bismuth‐quadruple therapy (92.0%) (difference: 4.0%, 95% CI: −2.9% to 11.5%, p < 0.001; and 3.9%, 95% CI: −3.1% to 11.5%, p < 0.001, respectively). PP analysis also revealed noninferiority (96.7% or 96.7% vs. 97.4%, with difference: −2.9% and −2.9%, p = 0.009 and 0.010, respectively). The frequency of adverse events was 39.0%, 56.1%, and 71.0% in VA‐dual, VAC‐triple, and bismuth‐quadruple therapies, respectively. Conclusions: VA‐dual and VA‐triple therapies are highly effective and noninferior to bismuth‐quadruple therapy in Southern China. Given the lower adverse effects and fewer antibiotic use, VA‐dual therapy is the preferred first‐line treatment for HP infection. Background/Aim: In this study, we introduce an innovative deep-learning model architecture aimed at enhancing the accuracy of detecting and classifying organizing pneumonia (OP), a condition characterized by the presence of Masson bodies within the alveolar spaces due to lung injury. The variable morphology of Masson bodies and their resemblance to adjacent pulmonary structures pose significant diagnostic challenges, necessitating a model capable of discerning subtle textural and structural differences. Our model incorporates a novel architecture that integrates advancements in three key areas: Semantic segmentation, texture analysis, and structural feature recognition. Materials and Methods: We employed a dataset of whole slide imaging from 20 patients, totaling 100 slides of OP, segmented into training, validation, and testing sets to reflect real-world application scenarios. Our approach utilizes a modified multi-head self-attention mechanism combined with ResUNet for semantic segmentation, enhanced by superpixel concepts. This method facilitates the generation of representative token features through iterative super-token blocks, creating high-resolution token maps that leverage local and high-level feature information for improved accuracy. Results: Benefiting from token features and distribution for enhanced texture alignment with fewer falsepositives, the super-token transformer (STT) model achieved a mean intersection over union (mIOU) of 72.42%, with a sensitivity of 47.81%, specificity of 99.83%, positive predictive value of 64.03%, and negative predictive value of 99.94%, highlighting superior efficacy in Masson body segmentation in complex cross-tissue analyses. Conclusion: Our team developed an iterative learning model based on the STT approach, emphasizing token features of super token, including texture and distribution, that enable enhanced alignment with the unique textures of Masson bodies to improve sensitivity and mIOU, The development of this STT model presents a significant advancement in the field of medical image analysis for OP that offers a promising avenue for improving diagnostic precision and patient outcomes in pulmonary pathology. Background: Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) can occur in patients with atherosclerotic disease, with or without plaque rupture. Previous studies have indicated a set of immune responses to plaque rupture. However, the specific circulating immune cell subsets that mediate inflammatory plaque rupture remain elusive. Methods: Ten AMI patients were enrolled in our study (five with and five without plaque rupture; plaque characteristics were identified by optical coherence tomography). By single-cell RNA sequencing, we analyzed the transcriptomic profile of peripheral blood mononuclear cells. Results: We identified 27 cell clusters among 82,550 cells, including monocytes, T cells, NK cells, B cells, megakaryocytes, and CD34+ cells. Classical and non-classical monocytes constitute the major inflammatory cell types, and pro-inflammatory genes such as CCL5, TLR7, and CX3CR1 were significantly upregulated in patients with plaque rupture, while the neutrophil activation and degranulation genes FPR2, MMP9, and CLEC4D were significantly expressed in the intermediate monocytes derived from patients without plaque rupture. We also found that CD4+ effector T cells may contribute to plaque rupture by producing a range of cytokines and inflammatory-related chemokines, while CD8+ effector T cells express more effector molecules in patients without plaque rupture, such as GZMB, GNLY, and PRF1, which may contribute to the progress of plaque erosion. Additionally, NK and B cells played a significant role in activating inflammatory cells and promoting chemokine production in the plaque rupture. Cell--cell communication elaborated characteristics in signaling pathways dominated by inflammatory activation of classical monocytes in patients with plaque rupture. Conclusions: Our studies demonstrate that the circulating immune cells of patients with plaque rupture exhibit highly pro-inflammatory characteristics, while plaque erosion is mainly associated with intermediate monocyte amplification, neutrophil activation, and degranulation. Background and Aim Methods Results Conclusion We aimed to investigate the effect of metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) on three‐dose BNT162b2 immunogenicity to the omicron variant.Adult recipients of three doses of BNT162b2 were prospectively recruited between May and December 2021. The serology of the neutralizing antibody by live virus microneutralization (vMN) to the omicron variant was measured at baseline, day 180, and day 360 after the first dose. The primary outcome was seroconversion (vMN titer ≥ 10) at day 360. Exposure of interest was MASLD, defined as hepatic steatosis (controlled attenuation parameter ≥ 248 dB/m on transient elastography) plus at least one of five cardiometabolic risk factors. Subjects with prior COVID‐19 were excluded. A multivariable logistic regression model was used to derive the adjusted odds ratio of seroconversion with MASLD by adjusting for age, sex, antibiotic use, and proton pump inhibitor use.One hundred forty‐eight BNT162b2 recipients (male: 48 [32.4%]; median age: 51.0 years [interquartile range, IQR: 44.5–57.3]) were recruited. The median time from the first dose to the third dose was 8.5 months (IQR: 7.9–8.9). MASLD subjects had a lower seroconversion rate than non‐MASLD ones (89.6% vs 99.0%; P = 0.007). MASLD was the only independent risk factor for seroconversion (adjusted odds ratio: 0.051, 95% confidence interval: 0.002–0.440). Subgroup analysis of immunogenicity at 4 months after the third dose shows significantly lower vMN titer (13.06 [IQR: 7.69–22.20] vs 33.49 [IQR: 24.05–46.53]; P = 0.004) and seroconversion rate (76.9% vs 97.4%; P = 0.016) in MASLD than non‐MASLD subjects, but not within 4 months from the third dose (vMN titer: 46.87 [IQR: 33.12–66.02] vs 41.86 [IQR: 34.47–50.91], P = 0.240; seroconversion rate: 94.3% vs 100%, P = 0.131).Metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease was a risk factor for poorer immunogenicity to the omicron variant, with a more pronounced waning effect compared among three‐dose BNT162b2 recipients. Background: This study explored neutralizing IgG antibody levels against COVID-19 decline over time post-vaccination. We conducted this prospective cohort study to investigate the function of gut microbiota in the host immune response following three doses of BNT162b2. Methods: Subjects who received three doses of BNT162b2 were recruited from three centers in Hong Kong. Blood samples were obtained before the first dose and at the one-year timepoint for IgG ELISA to determine the level of neutralizing antibody (NAb). The primary outcome was a high immune response (NAb > 600 AU/mL). We performed shotgun DNA metagenomic sequencing on baseline fecal samples to identify bacterial species and metabolic pathways associated with high immune response using linear discriminant analysis effect size analysis. Results: A total of 125 subjects were recruited (median age: 52 years [IQR: 46.2–59.0]; male: 43 [34.4%]), and 20 were regarded as low responders at the one-year timepoint. Streptococcus parasanguinis (log10LDA score = 2.38, p = 0.003; relative abundance of 2.97 × 10−5 vs. 0.03%, p = 0.001), Bacteroides stercoris (log10LDA score = 4.29, p = 0.024; relative abundance of 0.14% vs. 2.40%, p = 0.014) and Haemophilus parainfluenzae (log10LDA score = 2.15, p = 0.022; relative abundance of 0.01% vs. 0, p = 0.010) were enriched in low responders. Bifidobacterium pseudocatenulatum (log10LDA score = 2.99, p = 0.048; relative abundance of 0.09% vs. 0.36%, p = 0.049) and Clostridium leptum (log10LDA score = 2.38, p = 0.014; relative abundance of 1.2 × 10−5% vs. 0, p = 0.044) were enriched in high responders. S. parasanguinis was negatively correlated with the superpathway of pyrimidine ribonucleotides de novo biosynthesis (log10LDA score = 2.63), which contributes to inflammation and antibody production. H. parainfluenzae was positively correlated with pathways related to anti-inflammatory processes, including the superpathway of histidine, purine, and pyrimidine biosynthesis (log10LDA score = 2.14). Conclusion: Among three-dose BNT162b2 recipients, S. parasanguinis, B. stercoris and H. parainfluenzae were associated with poorer immunogenicity at one year, while B. pseudocatenulatum and C. leptum was associated with a better response. With increasing concerns about noise pollution, the pursuit of highly dependable piezoelectric acoustic sensors for real‐time noise monitoring has come to the forefront of scientific research. Lead‐based perovskite piezoelectric films, exemplified by lead zirconate titanate Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 (PZT), surpass traditional piezoelectric materials such as ZnO and AlN in their piezoelectric properties, promising substantial advancements in next‐generation acoustic sensor technologies. However, the toxic nature of lead in PZT materials poses formidable environmental and human health risks. In an unprecedented breakthrough, it presents the pioneering development of an environmentally benign lead‐free piezoelectric Micro‐Electro‐Mechanical System (MEMS) acoustic sensor based on potassium sodium niobate (K,Na)NbO3 (KNN) film. High‐quality <001> textured 3 µm‐thick KNN film is successfully integrated into commercially used Si substrate, rendering exceptional piezoelectricity (transverse piezoelectric coefficients e31* of ≈8.5 C m−2) with satisfactory thermal stability. The atomic‐scale Z‐contrast imaging and piezoresponse force microscopy characterizations reveal that the outstanding piezoresponse originates from the local coexistence of multiple phases and the enhancement of extrinsic piezoelectric contributions from in‐plane polarization anisotropy. Finite element simulation is employed to design the triangular cantilever structure and annular diaphragm structure, each corresponding to different operating bandwidths. The resultant MEMS acoustic sensors stand out with outstanding acoustic performance (the high sensitivity and expansive receiving field of view), which are attributed to the microstructural engineering at multi‐length scales for the excellent piezoelectric properties of KNN film. The expression and correlation of exogenous interleukin-10 and GATA binding protein-3 in the nasal mucosa of allergic rhinitis rats were analyzed. Twenty male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into two groups; normal control group (group A) and allergic rhinitis group (group B). The interleukin-10 and GATA binding protein-3 in the nasal mucosa of the two groups were determined by immunohistochemistry. The expression levels of GATA binding protein-3 and interleukin-10 were measured by Western blot. Pearson correlation test was used to analyze the correlation between the expression of exogenous interleukin-10 and GATA binding protein-3 in the rat model of allergic rhinitis. The scores of sneezing, runny nose and itching in the group B were reduced than group A. In group A, the epithelial cells of the nasal mucosa were arranged in order, the cilia were complete, and there were a few inflammatory cells and glands under the basement membrane. In group B, the epithelial cells of the nasal mucosa were disordered, the cilia were inverted and absent, the goblet cells in the epithelium were increased, a large number of inflammatory cells such as type selection granulocytes could be seen under the basement membrane, and the gland hyperplasia and vasodilation were obvious. The expression level of interleukin-10 and GATA binding protein-3 in the group B was decreased than control group. The interleukin-10 was positively correlated with GATA binding protein-3. The expression level of interleukin-10 and GATA binding protein-3 in the nasal mucosa of rats with allergic rhinitis was significantly lower than that of rats with allergic rhinitis. The origin of repeating fast radio bursts (RFRBs) is still a mystery. We propose that short-lived RFRBs might be triggered from the tidal disruption of white dwarfs (WDs) by intermediate-mass black holes (BHs). In this model, we show that the remnant WD clusters after tidal collapse cuts the magnetic lines on the BH accretion discs, and during each fall of the clump, so that electrons are torn from the surface of the mass and instantly accelerated to the relativistic energy. The subsequent movement of these electrons along magnetic field lines will result in coherent curvature radiation. This short-lived radio transients might accompany with the accretion process. The luminosity and the time-scale can be estimated to be L tot ∼ 1.96 × 1040 erg s−1 and Δ t ∼ 1.14 ms, respectively, which are consistent with the typical properties of RFRBs.
