Abstract Background This study aims to analyse changes in urinary kidney injury markers in children with Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (MPP), investigate the risk factors for MPP-related acute kidney injury (AKI) and establish a model to predict MPP-related AKI. Methods Ninety-five children were enrolled based on the study’s inclusion and exclusion criteria. They were divided into a severe MPP (SMPP) group and a non-SMPP group and then into an AKI group and a non-AKI group according to the presence of AKI. A univariate logistic regression analysis was performed to explore the early risk factors for AKI. Based on a multivariate logistic regression analysis and a least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression analysis, appropriate variables were selected to establish a prediction model, and R 4.2.2 software was used to draw nomograms and generate a dynamic nomogram website. Results Seven urinary kidney injury markers were abnormally elevated in the SMPP group and the non-SMPP group: urinary N-acetyl-β-D-glucosaminidase (NAG), β2-microglobulin, α1-microglobulin, retinol-binding protein, urinary immunoglobulin G, urinary transferrin and urinary microalbumin. Sixteen children were identified with AKI during hospitalisation. Objective To focus on the efficacy at variable frequency stimulation (VFS) after deep brain stimulation (DBS) for the treatment of axial symptoms in Parkinson's disease (PD). Methods Clinical data of 12 patients with PD who underwent bilateral DBS followed by VFS more than one year from January 2018 to June 2022 at Tianjin Huanhu Hospital, Tianjin University were retrospectively analyzed. Axial symptoms were assessed using Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS)-gait posture, Timed Up and Go Test (TUGT) time and the occurrence of freezing of gait (FOG), The Freezing of Gait - Questionnaire (FOG - Q), and Berg Balance Scale (BBS). The above indicators were recorded one week before DBS surgery and in the drug "off" period (baseline), at the end of high frequency stimulation (the end of HFS), at one month follow-up of VFS (short-term VFS), and at one year or more follow-up of VFS (long-term VFS). Results Compared with baseline, BBS scores increased at the end of HFS (t = - 2.845, P = 0.008); UPDRS-gait posture (t = 12.703, P = 0.000; t = 11.737, P = 0.000), TUGT time (t = 8.923, P = 0.000; t = 8.025, P = 0.000) and the occurrence of FOG (t = 4.448, P = 0.000; t = 4.181, P = 0.000), and FOGQ scores (t = 9.186, P = 0.000; t = 8.186, P = 0.000) decreased, while the BBS scores increased (t = - 7.686, P = 0.000; t = - 6.106, P = 0.000) in both short-term VFS and long-term VFS. Compared with the end of HFS, UPDRS-gait posture (t = 11.583, P = 0.000; t = 10.618, P = 0.000), TUGT time (t = 6.922, P = 0.000; t = 6.022, P = 0.000) and the occurrence of FOG (t = 3.612, P = 0.001; t = 3.344, P = 0.002), and FOG-Q scores (t = 7.915, P = 0.000; t = 6.915, P = 0.000) decreased, while the BBS scores increased (t = - 4.842, P = 0.000; t = - 3.262, P = 0.003) in short-term VFS and long-term VFS. Conclusions For PD patients with HFS but poor axial symptoms efficacy after DBS, the use of VFS significantly improves multifaceted axial symptoms with reliable long-term efficacy.

Methotrexate (MTX) is a therapeutic drug that is widely used in clinic for treatment of a variety of cancers. However, MTX has limited selectivity and serious cytotoxicity, at the same time, there are problems such as narrow therapeutic window and large individual variability in metabolism and excretion of MTX. Therefore, blood concentration monitoring is required for MTX administration in clinical practice. Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) has the advantages of strong specificity, good separation characteristics, high sensitivity and fast detection speed, which has become the internationally recognized “gold standard” for blood concentration monitoring of drugs. In this study, an isotope dilution mass spectrometry method was developed for accurate measurement of MTX in serum by the house-made QLIT-6610MD quadrupole-linear ion trap liquid chromatography-mass spectrometer. Unlike the traditional triple quadrupole QqQ tandem mass spectrometer, the quadrupole-linear ion trap (Q-LIT) mass spectrometer adopts the quadrupole-linear ion trap direct axial coupling design, i.e., a single linear ion trap is used to replace the QqQ tandem mass spectrometer’s back-end fragmentation cell and the quadrupole, and no other components are installed between the quadrupole and linear ion trap, which greatly streamlines the quality and efficiency of the mass spectrometer while ensuring the original performance of the instrument. With this unique configuration, the QLIT-6610MD instrument uses a simultaneous fragmentation and accumulation technique, which remarkedly reduces matrix-induced interferences and effectively reduces space charge effects. Serum samples were pretreated with methanol to precipitate proteins and the supernatants were measured by QLIT-6610MD spectrometer. The linear correlation coefficient (R2＞0.999 0) is obtained for MTX in the range of 10-5 000 μg/L. The limit of quantification is 10 μg/L. The precision of the quality control is better than 6.94%, and the recoveries of spiked serum samples are 86.39%-97.84% with a coefficient of variation less than 8.04%. We used the QLIT-6610MD and AB QTRAP 6500+ liquid chromatography-mass spectrometers to analyze 70 clinical serum samples for comparison of the performance of the house-made instrument by means of Pearson’s coefficient and BLand-ALtman method. The results showed that the QLIT-6610MD mass spectrometry achieves a similar level of performance to AB ATRAP 6500+ instrument, and provides a new domestic instrument option for clinical mass spectrometry. In addition, this study explores the possibility applying the multi-stage fragmentation technique (MSn) to determine MTX in serum, gaining fundamental data for future studies.

The Nantong blue calico pattern is a significant and indispensable part of China’s intangible cultural heritage, representing an artistic form of weaving and dyeing. However, existing research on blue calico patterns is not extensive, and few studies have focused on the construction of a database categorizing them or on recognizing the Nantong blue calico pattern. Obtaining good efficiency and accuracy through manual recognition has been the primary challenge in recognizing the Nantong blue calico pattern. In light of these challenges, this study proposes the use of deep learning network model to intelligently classify and recognize blue calico patterns.First, the patterns are classified to establish a Nantong blue calico pattern database, and the corresponding category labels are then manually assigned to each image. Second, based on the database and a backbone feature extraction network, the abilities of SSD (Single Shot Multibox Detector), Faster RCNN (Region-CNN), and You Only Look Once (to recognize the Nantong blue calico pattern were compared. The results show that the SSD model based on a VGG (Visual Geometry Group) backbone network has the best recognition accuracy of these three algorithms, with an average accuracy of 79.42%. On this basis, we selected the SSD model for parameter optimization and adjustment, and we replaced the backbone with mobilenetv2, a lighter backbone extraction network, to recognize the Nantong blue calico pattern. The results show that compared with the original SSD model, the optimized SSD model can improve the pattern recognition rate of Nantong blue calico pattern. Furthermore, this paper makes use of the characteristics of the VGG deep network, the backbone network of the SSD model, to efficiently extract the features of blue calico patterns, which provides a basis for designers to design innovative blue calico patterns.

Abstract Energy and environmental issues have increasingly garnered significant attention for sustainable development. Flexible and shape‐stable phase change materials display great potential in regulation of environmental temperature for energy saving and human comfort. Here, inspired by the water absorption behavior of salt‐tolerant animals and plants in salinity environment and the Hofmeister theory, highly stable phase change salogels (PCSGs) are fabricated through in situ polymerization of hydrophilic monomers in molten salt hydrates, which can serve multiple functions including thermal management patches, smart windows, and ice blocking coatings. The gelation principles of the polymer in high ion concentration solution are explored through the density functional theory simulation and verified the feasibility of four types of salt hydrates. The high concentration chaotropic ions strongly interacted with polymer chains and promoted the gelation at low polymer concentrations which derive highly‐stable and ultra‐moisturizing PCSGs with high latent heat (> 200 J g−1). The synergistic adhesion and transparency switching abilities accompanied with phase transition enable their smart thermal management. The study resolves the melting leakage and thermal cycling stability of salt hydrates, and open an avenue to fabricate flexible PCM of low cost, high latent heat, and long‐term durability for energy‐saving, ice‐blocking, and thermal management.

Abstract This study aimed to investigate the association between irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and Parkinson’s disease (PD) utilizing prospective cohort study and Mendelian randomization. The dataset contained a substantial cohort of 426,911 participants from the UK Biobank, discussing the association between IBS and PD with Cox proportional hazards models and case-control analysis while adjusting for covariates such as age, gender, ethnicity and education level. In univariate Cox regression model, the risk of PD was reduced in IBS patients (HR: 0.774, 95%CI: 0.625–0.956, P = 0.017), but the statistical significance diminished in the three models after adjusting for other variables. In a few subgroup analyses, IBS patients are less likely to develop into PD, and patients diagnosed with IBS after 2000 also had a lower risk (HR: 0.633, 95%CI: 0.403–0.994, P = 0.047) of subsequently developing PD. In addition, we matched five healthy control participants based on gender and age at the end of the study for each IBS patient diagnosed during the follow-up period, and logistic regression results (OR:1.239, 95%CI: 0.896–1.680, P = 0.181) showed that IBS was not associated with the risk of PD. Mendelian randomization did not find significant evidence of the causal relationship between IBS and Parkinson’s disease (OR: 0.801, 95%CI: 0.570–1.278, P = 0.204). Overall, we suggest that IBS status is not associated with the risk of developing PD, and that these findings provide valuable insights into the clinical management and resource allocation of patients with IBS.

Abstract Background The neural cells in the brains of patients with Parkinson’s disease (PWP) display aberrant synchronized oscillatory activity within the beta frequency range. Additionally, enhanced gamma oscillations may serve as a compensatory mechanism for motor inhibition mediated by beta activity and also reinstate plasticity in the primary motor cortex affected by Parkinson’s disease. Transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) can synchronize endogenous oscillations with exogenous rhythms, thereby modulating cortical activity. The objective of this study is to investigate whether the addition of tACS to multidisciplinary intensive rehabilitation treatment (MIRT) can improve symptoms of PWP so as to enhance the quality of life in individuals with Parkinson’s disease based on the central-peripheral-central theory. Methods The present study was a randomized, double-blind trial that enrolled 60 individuals with Parkinson’s disease aged between 45 and 70 years, who had Hoehn-Yahr scale scores ranging from 1 to 3. Participants were randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to either the tACS + MIRT group or the sham-tACS + MIRT group. The trial consisted of a two-week double-blind treatment period followed by a 24-week follow-up period, resulting in a total duration of twenty-six weeks. The primary outcome measured the change in PDQ-39 scores from baseline (T0) to 4 weeks (T2), 12 weeks (T3), and 24 weeks (T4) after completion of the intervention. The secondary outcome assessed changes in MDS-UPDRS III scores at T0, the end of intervention (T1), T2, T3, and T4. Additional clinical assessments and mechanistic studies were conducted as tertiary outcomes. Discussion The objective of this study is to demonstrate that tACS can enhance overall functionality and improve quality of life in PWP, based on the framework of MIRT. Additionally, it seeks to establish a potential correlation between these therapeutic effects and neuroplasticity alterations in relevant brain regions. The efficacy of tACS will be assessed during the follow-up period in order to optimize neuroplasticity and enhance its potential impact on rehabilitation efficiency for PWP. BackgroundVasculogenic Mimicry (VM) can reduce the efficacy of anti-angiogenesis and promote distant metastasis in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Our previous studies have found that Celastrus orbiculatus extract (COE) can inhibit the VM formation in HCC by reducing EphA2 expression. However the underlying mechanism related to EphA2 in VM formation is unclear.PurposeThis study aimed to confirm that EphA2 is one of the potential targets of COE, and to explore the effect of EphA2 in VM formation in hypoxia context in HCC.MethodsTCM Systems Pharmacology database and proteomics analysis were used to explore the key targets of COE in HCC treatment. CD31-PAS double staining and VE-CAD staining were used to indicate vasculogenic mimicry. The localization of EphA2 and VE-CAD was examined through fluorescent microscopy. CCK8 assay, cell invasion assay, and tube formation assay were used to indicate the formation of VM under hypoxic conditions. The regulatory relationship of EphA2 upstream and downstream molecules were evaluated through COIP and Western Blot. The nude mouse xenograft tumor models were used to observe the VM formation after knocking down or overexpressing EphA2.ResultsEphA2 is identified to the target of COE, and the driving gene of HCC. In HCC surgical specimens, EphA2 expression is closely associated with the VM formation of HCC. COE-regulated EphA2 is involved in hypoxia-induced VM formation in HCC cells in vitro. EphA2 is regulated by HIF directly or indirectly by C-MYC. Overexpression of EphA2 can promote the VM formation of HCC in nude mice, while knocking down EphA2 can inhibit the VM formation.ConclusionEphA2, as a target of COE, plays a crucial regulatory role in the formation of vasculogenic mimicry in HCC, involving upstream HIF/MYC transcriptional promotion and downstream PI3K/FAK/VE-CAD expression regulation.

Most of the seismic codes currently used are based on isolated earthquakes, whereas most earthquakes are seismic sequences acting repeatedly. In contrast to isolated earthquake scenarios, seismic sequences involve a series of seismic events, including a mainshock followed by aftershocks, suggesting that seismic sequences can reflect the structural damage accurately. This paper investigated the seismic performance of steel moment-resisting frames equipped with energy dissipation bays (EDBs) subjected to seismic sequences. It was demonstrated that the EDBs perform well in protecting main frames from isolated earthquakes of a certain magnitude, and the seismic sequences did not worsen the main frames' plastic damage. However, when the magnitude exceeded a certain threshold, the EDBs began to lose some of their protective capabilities, and the main frames' plastic damage from seismic sequences significantly increased. For the high strength steel frames equipped with EDBs, an approach that is more appropriate for estimating the residual damage of main frames in finite elements was suggested. The comparison results demonstrated the method's improved accuracy.

This paper focuses on the mechanical behaviour, seismic application in steel frame connections and steel structure of shape memory alloy (SMA) plates. This study commenced by examining the hysteretic response of SMA plates subjected to cyclic tension tests, considering two different loading paths. Subsequently, a self-centring steel frame connection equipped with SMA plates and washers (SC-PW) was examined via quasi-static cyclic loading tests, and comparatively satisfactory self-centring behaviour was observed. However, the degradation of the initial stiffness of the SC-PW due to an initial imperfection was observed. An improvement strategy was proposed to overcome the degradation of the hysteretic behaviour (e.g., initial stiffness) of the SC-PW. Disc springs with a larger stiffness and preloads were introduced to overcome the degradation of the initial stiffness of the SC-PW, and the validation was confirmed via detailed finite element (FE) analyses. To improve the computation efficiency, a simplified FE model was developed to reproduce the hysteretic responses of the connection. Based on the simplified FE model, a six-storey prototype structure, i.e., a self-centring hybrid steel frame (SCHSF), equipped with the improved connection was developed, and the structural dynamic responses were investigated via nonlinear response history analyses, where mainshock–aftershock sequences were considered. The influence of the SMA material properties on the seismic behaviour of the prototype structure was investigated.

Abstract Chiral conjugated polymer has promoted the development of the efficient circularly polarized electroluminescence (CPEL) device, nevertheless, it remains a challenge to develop chiral polymers with high electroluminescence performance. Herein, by the acceptor copolymerization of axially chiral biphenyl emitting skeleton and benzophenone, a pair of axially chiral conjugated polymers namely R‐PAC and S‐PAC are synthesized. The target polymers exhibit obvious thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) activities with high photoluminescence quantum yields of 81%. Moreover, the chiral polymers display significant circularly polarized luminescence features, with luminescence dissymmetry factor (|glum|) of nearly 3 × 10−3. By using the chiral polymers as emitters, the corresponding circularly polarized organic light‐emitting diodes (CP‐OLEDs) exhibit efficient CPEL signals with electroluminescence dissymmetry factor |gEL| of 3.4 × 10−3 and high maximum external quantum efficiency (EQEmax) of 17.8%. Notably, considering both EQEmax and |gEL| comprehensively, the device performance of R‐PAC and S‐PAC is the best among all the reported CP‐OLEDs with chiral conjugated polymers as emitters. This work provides a facile approach to constructing chiral conjugated TADF polymers and discloses the potential of axially chiral conjugated luminescent skeletons in architecting high‐performance CP‐OLEDs.

Taxonomic notes on the Talaus species from China are provided. Two new species, T. yuyang Yao & Liu, sp. nov. and T. zhangjiangkou Yao & Liu, sp. nov. are described and illustrated, and a further three species are redescribed based on their genitalic characters: T. dulongjiang Tang, Yin, Ubick & Peng, 2008, T. niger Tang, Yin, Ubick & Peng, 2008, and T. sulcus Tang & Li, 2010. The species T. xiphosus Zhu & Ono, 2007 is considered a junior synonym of T. triangulifer Simon, 1886 based on an examination of many recently collected female and male specimens from Guangxi Province, China. Diagnoses, detailed illustrations and a map of distributional records of the six treated species of Talaus in China are provided.

Eleven leptonetid species belonging to four genera collected in Jiangxi and Fujian Provinces, China are presented. Ten new species of midget cave spiders from southern China are diagnosed, described, and illustrated: Leptonetela dawu Yao & Liu, sp. nov., L. yuanhaoi Yao & Liu, sp. nov. and L. zuojiashanensis Yao & Liu, sp. nov. from Jiangxi; Longileptoneta guadunensis Yao & Liu, sp. nov., L. huboliao Yao & Liu, sp. nov., L. jiaxiani Yao & Liu, sp. nov., L. letuensis Yao & Liu, sp. nov., L. renzhouensis Yao & Liu, sp. nov., L. tianmenensis Yao & Liu, sp. nov., and Pararana mingxuani Yao & Liu, sp. nov. from Fujian. Furthermore, Falcileptoneta monodactyla (Yin, Wang & Wang, 1984) is recorded from Jiangxi province for the first time. Distributions records are given for all investigated species.

Amid the rapid development of modern society, the widespread use of plastic products has led to significant environmental issues, including the accumulation of non-degradable waste and extensive consumption of non-renewable resources. Developing healable, recyclable, bio-based materials from abundant renewable resources using diverse dynamic interactions attracts increasing global attention. However, achieving a good balance between the self-healing capacity and mechanical performance, such as strength and toughness, remains challenging. In our study, we address this challenge by developing a new type of dynamic network from epoxidized soybean oil (ESO) and poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) with good strength and toughness. For the synthetic strategy, a thiol–epoxy click reaction was conducted to functionalize ESO with thiol and hydroxyl groups. Subsequently, a curing reaction with isocyanates generated dynamic thiourethane and urethane bonds with different bonding energies in the dynamic networks to reach a trade-off between dynamic features and mechanical properties; amongst these, the thiourethane bonds with a lower bonding energy provide good dynamic features, while the urethane bonds with a higher bonding energy ensure good mechanical properties. The incorporation of flexible PBAT segments to form the rational multi-phase structure with crystalline domains further enhanced the products. A typical sample, OTSO100-PBAT100, exhibited a tensile strength of 33.2 MPa and an elongation at break of 1238%, demonstrating good healing capacity and desirable mechanical performance. This study provides a promising solution to contemporary environmental and energy challenges by developing materials that combine mechanical and repair properties. It addresses the specific gap of achieving a trade-off between tensile strength and elongation at break in bio-based self-healing materials, promising a wide range of applications.

Background: Alcohol abuse, a prevalent global health issue, is associated with the onset of cognitive impairment and neurodegeneration. Actin filaments (F-actin) and microtubules (MTs) polymerized from monomeric globular actin (G-actin) and tubulin form the structural basis of the neuronal cytoskeleton. Precise regulation of the assembly and disassembly of these cytoskeletal proteins, and their dynamic balance, play a pivotal role in regulating neuronal morphology and function. Nevertheless, the effect of prolonged alcohol exposure on cytoskeleton dynamics is not fully understood. This study investigates the chronic effects of alcohol on cognitive ability, neuronal morphology and cytoskeleton dynamics in the mouse hippocampus. Methods: Mice were provided ad libitum access to 5% (v/v) alcohol in drinking water and were intragastrically administered 30% (v/v, 6.0 g/kg/day) alcohol for six weeks during adulthood. Cognitive functions were then evaluated using the Y maze, novel object recognition and Morris water maze tests. Hippocampal histomorphology was assessed through hematoxylin-eosin (HE) and Nissl staining. The polymerized and depolymerized states of actin cytoskeleton and microtubules were separated using two commercial assay kits and quantified by Western blot analysis. Results: Mice chronically exposed to alcohol exhibited significant deficits in spatial and recognition memory as evidenced by behavioral tests. Histological analysis revealed notable hippocampal damage and neuronal loss. Decreased ratios of F-actin/G-actin and MT/tubulin, along with reduced levels of polymerized F-actin and MTs, were found in the hippocampus of alcohol-treated mice. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that chronic alcohol consumption disrupted the assembly of the actin cytoskeleton and MTs in the hippocampus, potentially contributing to the cognitive deficits and pathological injury induced by chronic alcohol intoxication.

Cascade prediction aims to estimate the popularity of information diffusion in complex networks, which is beneficial to many applications from identifying viral marketing to fake news propagation in social media, estimating the scientific impact (citations) of a new publication, and so on. How to effectively predict cascade growth size has become a significant problem. Most previous methods based on deep learning have achieved remarkable results, while concentrating on mining structural and temporal features from diffusion networks and propagation paths. Whereas, the ignorance of spread dynamic information restricts the improvement of prediction performance. In this paper, we propose a novel framework called Physics-informed graph convolutional network (PiGCN) for cascade prediction, which combines explicit features (structural and temporal features) and propagation dynamic status in learning diffusion ability of cascades. Specifically, PiGCN is an end-to-end predictor, firstly splitting a given cascade into sub-cascade graph sequence and learning local structures of each sub-cascade via graph convolutional network , then adopting multi-layer perceptron to predict the cascade growth size. Moreover, our dynamic neural network, combining PDE-like equations and a deep learning method, is designed to extract potential dynamics of cascade diffusion, which captures dynamic evolution rate both on structural and temporal changes. To evaluate the performance of our proposed PiGCN model, we have conducted extensive experiment on two well-known large-scale datasets from Sina Weibo and ArXIv subject listing HEP-PH to verify the effectiveness of our model. The results of our proposed model outperform the mainstream model, and show that dynamic features have great significance for cascade size prediction.

Results: Seven urinary kidney injury markers were abnormally elevated in the SMPP group and the non-SMPP group: urinary N-acetyl-β-D-glucosaminidase (NAG), β2-microglobulin, α1-microglobulin, retinol-binding protein, urinary immunoglobulin G, urinary transferrin and urinary microalbumin. Sixteen children were identified with AKI during hospitalisation. The AKI group had higher levels of urinary NAG, α1-microglobulin, β2-microglobulin, urinary microalbumin, urinary transferrin and retinol-binding protein than the non-AKI group (P < 0.05). The MPP-related AKI prediction model consists of four indicators (serum immunoglobulin M [IgM], C-reactive protein [CRP], urine NAG and sputum plug presence) and a dynamic nomogram. Conclusion: Urinary kidney injury markers are often elevated in children with MPP; urinary NAG is the marker most likely to be elevated, and it is especially evident in severe cases. The nomogram of the prediction model, comprising serum IgM, CRP, urinary NAG and sputum plug presence, can predict the probability of AKI in children with MPP. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
