Abstract

The jet cross-section and jet-substructure observables in $p$$+$$p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=200$ GeV were measured by the PHENIX Collaboration at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). Abstract

Magnetic Johnson noise is an important consideration for many applications involving precision magnetometry, and its significance will only increase in the future with improvements in measurement sensitivity. The fluctuation-dissipation theorem can be utilized to derive analytic expressions for magnetic Johnson noise in certain situations. But when used in conjunction with commercially available finite element analysis tools, the combined approach is particularly powerful as it provides a practical means to calculate the magnetic Johnson noise arising from conductors of arbitrary geometry and permeability. In this paper, we demonstrate this method to be one of the most comprehensive approaches presently available to calculate thermal magnetic noise. In particular, its applicability is shown to not be limited to cases where the noise is evaluated at a point in space but also can be expanded to include cases where the magnetic field detector has a more general shape, such as a finite size loop, a gradiometer, or a detector that consists of a polarized atomic species trapped in a volume. Furthermore, some physics insights gained through studies made using this method are discussed.

Abstract

The PHENIX experiment measured the centrality dependence of two-pion Bose-Einstein correlation functions in $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$~GeV Au$+$Au collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The data are well represented by L\'evy-stable source distributions. The extracted source parameters are the correlation-strength parameter $\lambda$, the L\'evy index of stability $\alpha$, and the L\'evy-scale parameter $R$ as a function of transverse mass $m_T$ and centrality. The $\lambda(m_T)$ parameter is constant at larger values of $m_T$, but decreases as $m_T$ decreases. The L\'evy scale parameter $R(m_T)$ decreases with $m_T$ and exhibits proportionality to the length scale of the nuclear overlap region. The L\'evy exponent $\alpha(m_T)$ is independent of $m_T$ within uncertainties in each investigated centrality bin, but shows a clear centrality dependence. At all centralities, the L\'evy exponent $\alpha$ is significantly different from that of Gaussian ($\alpha=2$) or Cauchy ($\alpha=1$) source distributions. Comparisons to the predictions of Monte-Carlo simulations of resonance-decay chains show that in all but the most peripheral centrality class (50%-60%), the obtained results are inconsistent with the measurements, unless a significant reduction of the in-medium mass of the $\eta'$ meson is included. In each centrality class, the best value of the in-medium $\eta'$ mass is compared to the mass of the $\eta$ meson, as well as to several theoretical predictions that consider restoration of $U_A(1)$ symmetry in hot hadronic matter., Comment: 401 authors from 75 institutions, 20 pages, 15 figures, 2 tables. v1 is version submitted to Physical Review C. Abstract

A series of data samples was collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider from March 2019 to June 2022. We determine the integrated luminosities of these data samples using three distinct methodologies involving Bhabha ($e^+e^- \to e^+e^-(n\gamma)$), digamma ($e^+e^- \to \gamma\gamma(n\gamma)$), and dimuon ($e^+e^- \to \mu^+ \mu^- (n\gamma)$) events. The total integrated luminosity obtained with Bhabha, digamma, and dimuon events is (426.52 $\pm$ 0.03 $\pm$ 2.48)~fb$^{-1}$, (427.32 $\pm$ 0.03 $\pm$ 2.56)~fb$^{-1}$, and (424.84 $\pm$ 0.04 $\pm$ 3.88)~fb$^{-1}$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. The resulting total integrated luminosity obtained from the combination of the three methods is (426.88 $\pm$ 1.93)~fb$^{-1}$., Comment: 12 pages, 3 figures

Abstract

We search for excited charmed baryons in the $\Lambda_c^+\eta$ system using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 980 $\rm fb^{-1}$. The data were collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^{+}$$e^{-}$ asymmetric-energy collider. No significant signals are found in the $\Lambda_c^+\eta$ mass spectrum, including the known $\Lambda_c(2880)^+$ and $\Lambda_c(2940)^+$. Clear $\Lambda_c(2880)^+$ and $\Lambda_c(2940)^+$ signals are observed in the $pD^0$ mass spectrum. We set upper limits at 90\% credibility level on ratios of branching fractions of $\Lambda_c(2880)^+$ and $\Lambda_c(2940)^+$ decaying to $\Lambda_c^+\eta$ relative to $\Sigma_c(2455)\pi$ of $<0.13$ for the $\Lambda_c(2880)^+$ and $<1.11$ for the $\Lambda_c(2940)^+$. We measure ratios of branching fractions of $\Lambda_c(2880)^+$ and $\Lambda_c(2940)^+$ decaying to $pD^0$ relative to $\Sigma_c(2455)\pi$ of $0.75 \pm 0.03(\text{stat.}) \pm 0.07(\text{syst.})$ for the $\Lambda_c(2880)^+$ and $3.59 \pm 0.21(\text{stat.}) \pm 0.56(\text{syst.})$ for the $\Lambda_c(2940)^+$., Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication as a Regular Article in Physical Review D

Abstract

Using the data samples of 102 million $\Upsilon(1S)$ and 158 million $\Upsilon(2S)$ events collected by the Belle detector, we search for a pentaquark state in the $pJ/\psi$ final state from $\Upsilon(1,2S)$ inclusive decays. Here, the charge-conjugate $\bar{p}J/\psi$ is included. We observe clear $pJ/\psi$ production in $\Upsilon(1,2S)$ decays and measure the branching fractions to be $\mathcal{B}[\Upsilon(1S) \to pJ/\psi + anything] = [4.27 \pm 0.16(stat.) \pm 0.20(syst.)] \times 10^{-5}$ and $\mathcal{B}[\Upsilon(2S) \to pJ/\psi + anything] = [3.59 \pm 0.14(stat.) \pm 0.16(syst.)] \times 10^{-5}$. We also measure the cross section of inclusive $pJ/\psi$ production in $e^+e^-$ annihilation to be $\sigma(e^+e^- \to pJ/\psi + anything) = [57.5 \pm 2.1 (stat.) \pm 2.5(syst.)]$~fb at $\sqrt{s} = 10.52~\hbox{GeV}$ using an 89.5~fb$^{-1}$ continuum data sample. There is no significant $P_c(4312)^+$, $P_c(4440)^+$ or $P_c(4457)^+$ signal found in the $pJ/\psi$ final states in $\Upsilon(1,2S)$ inclusive decays. We determine the upper limits of $\mathcal{B}[\Upsilon(1,2S)\to P_c^{+} + anything] \cdot \mathcal{B}(P_c^{+}\to pJ/\psi)$ to be at the $10^{-6}$ level.

Abstract

We report the results of the first search for $B^-$ decays to the $\bar{\Xi}_{c}^{0} \bar{\Lambda}_{c}^{-}$ final state using 711~${\rm fb^{-1}}$ of data collected at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. The results are interpreted in terms of both direct baryon-number-violating $B^-$ decay and $\Xi_{c}^{0}-\bar{\Xi}_{c}^{0}$ oscillations which follow the Standard Model decay $B^- \to \Xi_{c}^{0} \bar{\Lambda}_{c}^{-}$. We observe no evidence for baryon number violation and set the 95\% confidence-level upper limits on the ratio of baryon-number-violating and Standard Model branching fractions ${\mathcal{B}(B^- \rightarrow \bar{\Xi}_{c}^{0} \bar{\Lambda}_{c}^{-})}/{\mathcal{B}(B^- \rightarrow \Xi_{c}^{0} \bar{\Lambda}_{c}^{-})}$ to be $< 2.7\%$ and on the $\Xi_{c}^{0} - \bar{\Xi}_{c}^{0}$ oscillation angular frequency $\omega$ to be $< 0.76\ \mathrm{ps}^{-1}$ (equivalent to $\tau_{\rm mix} > 1.3$~ps)., Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures, submitted to Phys. Abstract

We present a measurement of $B^{0} \rightarrow \omega \omega$, a charmless decay into two vector mesons, using 772 $\times 10^6$ $B\overline{B}$ pairs collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+e^-$ collider. The decay is observed with a significance of 7.9 standard deviations. We measure a branching fraction $\mathcal{B} = (1.53 \pm 0.29 \pm 0.17) \times 10^{-6}$, a fraction of longitudinal polarization $f_L = 0.87 \pm 0.13 \pm 0.13$, and a time-integrated $CP$ asymmetry $A_{CP}$ = $-0.44 \pm 0.43 \pm 0.11$, where the first uncertainties listed are statistical and the second are systematic. Abstract

As one of the element technologies for the realization of Vertical Greenery System (VGS), this study aims to develop a biological panel in which moss can thrive. The fundamental characteristics and the biological receptivity of the base material of the biological panel should be considered for moss survival. Therefore, the required performance of the base material of the biological panel has been evaluated, and the effect on biological receptivity has been analyzed. For biological receptivity, it is necessary to create an environment having various pH ranges depending on the species of moss, secure the rooting performance of moss, and secure the moisturizing properties of the base material of the biological panel. Therefore, in this study, two types of cement with different pH (Ordinary Portland Cement and Alumina Cement) have been used to enhance the fundamental characteristics and the biological receptivity of the base material of the biological panel. Additionally, a foaming agent (aluminum powder) has been incorporated to reduce the panel's weight and create a rough surface. Super absorbent polymer has been incorporated to improve the moisture-retention properties of the biological panel's base material. As a result of the presented evaluation, panels with pH values of 13 and 10.5 have been prepared, and the moisture absorption has been increased by 25% through the use of Super Absorbent Polymer (SAP), with moisture being maintained for about 2-3 days. Abstract

Background: Amivantamab-lazertinib significantly prolonged progression-free survival (PFS) versus osimertinib in patients with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-mutant advanced non-small-cell lung cancer [NSCLC; hazard ratio (HR) 0.70; P < 0.001], including those with a history of brain metastases (HR 0.69). Patients with TP53 co-mutations, detectable circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA), baseline liver metastases, and those without ctDNA clearance on treatment have poor prognoses. We evaluated outcomes in these high-risk subgroups., Patients and Methods: This analysis included patients with treatment-naive, EGFR-mutant advanced NSCLC randomized to amivantamab-lazertinib (n = 429) or osimertinib (n = 429) in MARIPOSA. Pathogenic alterations were identified by next-generation sequencing (NGS) of baseline blood ctDNA with Guardant360 CDx. Ex19del and L858R ctDNA in blood was analyzed at baseline and cycle 3 day 1 (C3D1) with Biodesix droplet digital polymerase chain reaction (ddPCR)., Results: Baseline ctDNA for NGS of pathogenic alterations was available for 636 patients (amivantamab-lazertinib, n = 320; osimertinib, n = 316). Amivantamab-lazertinib improved median PFS (mPFS) versus osimertinib for patients with TP53 co-mutations {18.2 versus 12.9 months; HR 0.65 [95% confidence interval (CI) 0.48-0.87]; P = 0.003} and for patients with wild-type TP53 [22.1 versus 19.9 months; HR 0.75 (95% CI 0.52-1.07)]. In patients with EGFR-mutant, ddPCR-detectable baseline ctDNA, amivantamab-lazertinib significantly prolonged mPFS versus osimertinib [20.3 versus 14.8 months; HR 0.68 (95% CI 0.53-0.86); P = 0.002]. Amivantamab-lazertinib significantly improved mPFS versus osimertinib in patients without ctDNA clearance at C3D1 [16.5 versus 9.1 months; HR 0.49 (95% CI 0.27-0.87); P = 0.015] and with clearance [24.0 versus 16.5 months; HR 0.64 (95% CI 0.48-0.87); P = 0.004]. Abstract

Background: The healthcare water environment is a potential reservoir of carbapenem-resistant organisms (CROs)., Aim: To report the role of the water environment as a reservoir and the infection control measures applied to suppress a prolonged outbreak of Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase-producing Serratia marcescens (KPC-SM) in two intensive care units (ICUs)., Methods: The outbreak occurred in the ICUs of a tertiary hospital from October 2020 to July 2021. Comprehensive patient contact tracing and environmental assessments were conducted, and a case-control study was performed to identify factors associated with the acquisition of KPC-SM. Associations among isolates were assessed via pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE). Antibiotic usage was analysed., Findings: The outbreak consisted of two waves involving a total of 30 patients with KPC-SM. Multiple environmental cultures identified KPC-SM in a sink, a dirty utility room, and a communal bathroom shared by the ICUs, together with the waste bucket of a continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) system. The genetic similarity of the KPC-SM isolates from patients and the environment was confirmed by PFGE. A retrospective review of 30 cases identified that the use of CRRT and antibiotics was associated with acquisition of KPC-SM (P < 0.05). There was a continuous increase in the use of carbapenems; notably, the use of colistin has increased since 2019., Conclusion: Our study demonstrates that CRRT systems, along with other hospital water environments, are significant potential sources of resistant micro-organisms, underscoring the necessity of enhancing infection control practices in these areas., (Copyright © 2024 The Healthcare Infection Society. Abstract

Background: We evaluated the efficacy and safety of tepotinib in patients with various solid cancers harboring MET exon 14 skipping mutation (METex14) or MET gene amplification., Patients and Methods: A phase II, multicenter study was conducted in patients with advanced or metastatic solid cancers who progressed after standard treatment, harboring either METex14 or MET amplification detected in tissue-based next-generation sequencing (NGS). The primary endpoint was objective response rate (ORR). For exploratory analyses, we analyzed the gene profiles using plasma NGS test., Results: Thirty-five patients were enrolled. The ORR was 57.6% for all patients, 52.2% for those with METex14, and 70% for those with MET amplification. Median progression-free survival (PFS) was 8 months [95% confidence interval (CI) 4.5-11.5 months] and median overall survival (OS) was 14 months (95% CI 7.8-20.2 months) in all patients. For patients with non-small-cell lung cancer with METex14, the median PFS was 9 months (95% CI 4.7-13.4 months) and the median OS was 17 months [95% CI not applicable (NA)-NA]. For patients with MET amplification, the median PFS was 7 months (95% CI 1.5-12.5 months) and the median OS was 10 months (95% CI 5.8-14.2 months). The ORR of patients with MET dysregulation detected by plasma NGS was 72.2%, whereas the ORR was 30% in those without detection. The most common adverse events were peripheral edema, asthenia, transaminase elevation, and anorexia, mostly grade 1 or 2., Conclusions: Tepotinib demonstrated consistent antitumor activity in patients with METex14, and promising antitumor activity in various cancers with MET amplification. Abstract

We present a comprehensive study of B^{0}→ωω decays using 772×10^{6}  BB[over ¯] pairs collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB e^{+}e^{-} collider. This process is a suppressed charmless decay into two vector mesons and can exhibit interesting polarization and CP violation. The decay is observed for the first time with a significance of 7.9 standard deviations. We measure a branching fraction B=(1.53±0.29±0.17)×10^{-6}, a fraction of longitudinal polarization f&#95;{L}=0.87±0.13±0.13, and a time-integrated CP asymmetry A&#95;{CP}=-0.44±0.43±0.11, where the first uncertainties listed are statistical and the second are systematic. This is the first observation of B^{0}→ωω and the first measurements of f&#95;{L} and A&#95;{CP} for this decay.

Abstract

We report the results of the first search for B^{-} decays to the Ξ[over ¯]&#95;{c}^{0}Λ[over ¯]&#95;{c}^{-} final state using 711  fb^{-1} of data collected at the ϒ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e^{+}e^{-} collider. The results are interpreted in terms of both direct baryon-number-violating B^{-} decay and Ξ&#95;{c}^{0}-Ξ[over ¯]&#95;{c}^{0} oscillations which follow the standard model decay B^{-}→Ξ&#95;{c}^{0}Λ[over ¯]&#95;{c}^{-}. We observe no evidence for baryon number violation and set the 95% confidence-level upper limits on the ratio of baryon-number-violating and standard model branching fractions B(B^{-}→Ξ[over ¯]&#95;{c}^{0}Λ[over ¯]&#95;{c}^{-})/B(B^{-}→Ξ&#95;{c}^{0}Λ[over ¯]&#95;{c}^{-}) to be <2.7% and on the effective angular frequency of mixing ω in Ξ&#95;{c}^{0}-Ξ[over ¯]&#95;{c}^{0} oscillations to be <0.76  ps^{-1} (equivalent to τ&#95;{mix}>1.3  ps).

17. A practical approach to calculating magnetic Johnson noise for precision measurements.

Abstract

Magnetic Johnson noise is an important consideration for many applications involving precision magnetometry, and its significance will only increase in the future with improvements in measurement sensitivity. The fluctuation-dissipation theorem can be utilized to derive analytic expressions for magnetic Johnson noise in certain situations. But when used in conjunction with commercially available finite element analysis tools, the combined approach is particularly powerful as it provides a practical means to calculate the magnetic Johnson noise arising from conductors of arbitrary geometry and permeability. In this paper, we demonstrate this method to be one of the most comprehensive approaches presently available to calculate thermal magnetic noise. In particular, its applicability is shown to not be limited to cases where the noise is evaluated at a point in space but also can be expanded to include cases where the magnetic field detector has a more general shape, such as a finite size loop, a gradiometer, or a detector that consists of a polarized atomic species trapped in a volume. Furthermore, some physics insights gained through studies made using this method are discussed.

18. Performance evaluation of the SMG HHV-6 Q Real-Time PCR Kit for quantitative detection and differentiation of human herpesvirus 6A and 6B.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to compare the performance of the newly developed SMG HHV-6 Q Real-Time PCR Kit (SMG assay) with the RealStar HHV-6 PCR Kit (RealStar assay). The analytical sensitivity and specificity, linearity, and precision of the SMG assay were evaluated. The clinical performance of the SMG assay was assessed and compared with that of the RealStar assay using 207 clinical specimens (HHV-6A positive, n = 51; HHV-6B positive, n = 64; HHV-6A/B negative, n = 92). The limit of detection of the SMG assay was 2.92 log 10 copies/mL for HHV-6A DNA and 2.88 log 10 copies/mL for HHV-6B DNA. The linear range was determined to be 3.40-9.00 log 10 copies/mL for both viruses. Intra- and inter-assay variability were below 5% at concentrations ranging from 4 to 9 log 10 copies/mL. No cross-reactivity was observed with the 25 microorganisms included in the specificity panel. The clinical sensitivity and specificity of the SMG and RealStar assays compared to in-house polymerase chain reaction and sequencing were as follows: SMG assay, 98.0% and 100% for HHV-6A DNA, respectively, and 96.9% and 100% for HHV-6B DNA, respectively; RealStar assay, 98.0% and 100% for HHV-6A DNA, respectively, and 90.6% and 100% for HHV-6B DNA, respectively. The correlation coefficients between viral loads measured by the two assays were 0.948 and 0.975, with mean differences of 0.62 and 0.32 log 10 copies/mL for HHV-6A and HHV-6B DNA, respectively. These results demonstrate that the SMG assay is a sensitive and reliable tool for the quantitative detection and differentiation of HHV-6A and HHV-6B DNA.IMPORTANCEQuantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) that can distinguish between HHV-6A and HHV-6B DNA is recommended for diagnosis of active infection. The SMG HHV-6 Q Real-Time PCR Kit (SMG assay) is a newly developed qPCR assay that can differentiate between HHV-6A and HHV-6B DNA; however, little is known about its performance. In this study, we assessed the performance of the SMG assay and compared it with that of a commercially available qPCR assay, the RealStar HHV-6 PCR Kit (RealStar assay). The SMG assay demonstrated excellent analytical sensitivity and specificity, precision, and linearity. Abstract

On December 5, 2022, an indirect drive fusion implosion on the National Ignition Facility (NIF) achieved a target gain G&#95;{target} of 1.5. This is the first laboratory demonstration of exceeding "scientific breakeven" (or G&#95;{target}>1) where 2.05 MJ of 351 nm laser light produced 3.1 MJ of total fusion yield, a result which significantly exceeds the Lawson criterion for fusion ignition as reported in a previous NIF implosion [H. Abu-Shawareb et al. (Indirect Drive ICF Collaboration), Phys. Rev. Lett. 129, 075001 (2022)PRLTAO0031-900710.1103/PhysRevLett.129.075001]. This achievement is the culmination of more than five decades of research and gives proof that laboratory fusion, based on fundamental physics principles, is possible. This Letter reports on the target, laser, design, and experimental advancements that led to this result.
