Solar radiation impacts diverse aspects of city life, such as harvesting energy with PV panels, passive heating of buildings in winter, cooling the loads of air-conditioning systems in summer, and the urban microclimate. Urban digital twins and 3D city models can support solar studies in the process of urban planning and provide valuable insights for data-driven decision support. This study examines the calculation of solar incident radiation at the city scale in Sofia using remote sensing data for the large shading context in a mountainous region and 3D building data. It aims to explore the methods of geometry optimisation, limitations, and performance issues of a 3D computer-aided design (CAD) tool dedicated to small-scale solar analysis and employed at the city scale. Two cases were considered at the city and district scales, respectively. The total face count of meshes for the simulations constituted approximately 2,000,000 faces. A total of 64,379 roofs for the whole city and 4796 buildings for one district were selected. All calculations were performed in one batch and visualised in a 3D web platform. The use of a 3D CAD environment establishes a seamless process of updating 3D models and simulations, while preprocessing in Geographic Information System (GIS) ensures working with large-scale datasets. The proposed method showed a moderate computation time for both cases and could be extended to include reflected radiation and dense photogrammetric meshes in the future. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To deliver spiritual care, professionals must be skilled in physical, mental, social, and spiritual care. Spiritual care competence includes knowledge, behaviors, attitudes, and skills that enable successful or efficient care. This review aims to identify the scope of competence and the specific skills, knowledge, and attitudes used in providing spiritual care to people needing palliative care, and the main challenges and facilitators. A scoping review was developed using the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology. Six databases (Web of Science; MEDLINE/Pubmed; Scopus; CINAHL; MedicLatina and SciELO) were searched in September 2023, with an update in January 2024. The resulting 30 articles were analyzed using a content analysis approach. Information was categorized into three domains: cognitive, affective, and functional (based on three personal resources: intrapersonal, interpersonal, and transpersonal). Palliative care professionals face a lack of training and insufficient preparation to deliver spiritual care. Spiritual care competence depends on professional spiritual development and experience, spiritual intelligence (cognitive), spiritual humility (affective), and having a critical and reflexive mind (functional). In the future, palliative care should seek to improve competent spiritual care. This review could help clarify the real configuration of competent spiritual care and lead to improvements in a professional's empowerment when delivering effective spiritual care to patients and families. This study examined the effects of the spiritual well-being levels of surgical nurses on care satisfaction in liver transplant recipients after transplantation. The sample in this cross-sectional study consisted of 69 surgical nurses working in the organ transplant centre of a research and training hospital in Turkey and 79 liver transplant recipients. The data of this study were collected between 1 August 2020 and 30 August 2021. The "Three-Factor Spiritual Well-being Scale" and the "Newcastle Satisfaction with Nursing Scale" were used for data collection. A statistically significant relationship was found between the spiritual well-being levels of the surgical nurses and the care satisfaction levels of the transplant recipients. Surgical nurses should be capable of treating patients holistically and be knowledgeable enough to support the mental health of patients. High levels of spiritual well-being in surgical nurses contribute to increased satisfaction with care among organ transplant recipients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Students' cultural values can significantly impact their decision to enroll in accounting courses. Some students could be discouraged from studying accounting because of a poor view of the field stemming from cultural expectations. A lack of solid cultural values (Aesthetic, social, symbolic, spiritual, and educational) can negatively affect students aspiring to become accountants. In this context, our study sets out to ascertain how cultural values affect college students' decisions to pursue careers in accounting. With this aim, employing a quantitative technique and a survey questionnaire was appropriate to gather data from Omani undergraduate students. SEM-PLS, version 4.0 software, was used to analyze data. The outcome of our research was mainly the confirmation that cultural values--both symbolic and aesthetic--significantly impact students' decisions to pursue a career in accounting. However, there was no discernible influence of other cultural values (such as social, spiritual, and educational) on the decision to pursue a career in accounting. An accounting career ought to uphold Islamic ideals and beliefs. The capacity to exhibit Islamic beliefs and practices, which students believe is crucial while choosing a career in accounting. The research conclusions of this can help managers in the accounting industry make informed hiring decisions. They can adapt their recruitment efforts to attract talented people by comprehending the variables that affect students' decisions to pursue careers in accounting. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aims: To discuss the construction and use of vignettes as a novel approach in spiritual care research and education. Design: Methods paper. Methods: In this methods paper, the authors introduce the use of vignettes in spiritual care research and provide insight into the construction of vignettes. The vignette presented was part of a study of neurosurgical nurses' attitudes and responses to the spiritual needs of neuro-oncology patients. The development process, consisting of four steps, is explained in this paper. Results: Using a vignette to explore nurses' attitudes towards spiritual care is an innovative way to understand what behaviours nurses consider appropriate in situations where the patient is seeking meaning and connection. Transparent description of the development process is crucial to ensure reproducibility. Conclusion: The use of theoretically constructed and validated vignettes in spiritual care research is new. Vignettes used in surveys have the potential to elicit nurses' responses to patients' search for meaning and connectedness. Implications: In order to investigate nurses' attitudes and behaviours towards patients' spiritual needs, carefully constructed and validated vignettes are valuable research tools. Impact: Vignettes have proven to be a valuable research tool in the social and health sciences. So far, their use as a survey instrument in spiritual care research has not been investigated. Therefore, this method paper introduces vignettes as a novel approach to spiritual care research. Our findings contribute to the further development of vignettes in nursing science, as there are similarities with case development and simulation training in nursing education. Reporting Method: Reporting guideline is not applicable. Patient or Public Contribution: No patient or public contribution. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this paper is to explore the rehabilitation strategies for multi-family dwellings on the level of function and techniques. The study employs its own methods of analysis using a sample of selected cases as a reference. Nearly 20% of EU buildings will have to be renovated by 2023, as almost 40% of the existing houses were built before 1980. The environmental impact of construction is among the highest among industrial activities due to the high consumption of resources and the generation of low-value waste at the construction and demolition stages. One way to reduce the environmental impact in this sector is to intervene in the building process, optimising the use of resources and waste generation. The principal objective of refurbishments is to reduce household energy consumption. However, the renovations in the housing sector should not be limited to energy considerations; the functional and technical aspects should also be considered. A new refurbishment model is necessary to focus on providing and improving the habitability of the housing stock and reducing the environmental impact by optimising the use of resources and waste generation. To achieve this, the renovations should be carefully monitored. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This review article conducts an in-depth analysis of the role of next-generation technologies in soilless vegetable production, highlighting their groundbreaking potential to revolutionize yield, efficiency, and sustainability. These technologies, such as AI-driven monitoring systems and precision farming methods, offer unparalleled accuracy in monitoring critical variables such as nutrient concentrations and pH levels. However, the paper also addresses the multifaceted challenges that hinder the widespread adoption of these technologies. The high initial investment costs pose a significant barrier, particularly for small- and medium-scale farmers, thereby risking the creation of a technological divide in the industry. Additionally, the technical complexity of these systems demands specialized expertise, potentially exacerbating knowledge gaps among farmers. Other considerations are scrutinized, including data privacy concerns and potential job displacement due to automation. Regulatory challenges, such as international trade regulations and policy frameworks, are discussed, as they may need revision to accommodate these new technologies. The paper concludes by emphasizing that while these sustainable technologies offer transformative benefits, their potential for broad adoption is constrained by a complex interplay of financial, technical, regulatory, and social factors. - Abstract
Background: Serious illnesses, such as cancer, bring the threat of loss of health and life closer. This may compromise spiritual well-being. Addressing patients' spirituality is essential in nursing care. Therefore, nursing records should reflect, clarify, and enable spiritual-care follow-up., Aim: The aim of this study is to explore how spiritual care is expressed in nursing records in cancer care., Method: This study adopted a hermeneutic approach, and a qualitative content analysis was used to explore the nursing records of 43 inpatients with cancer from Norway. Ethical approval was obtained, and the privacy of the patients and healthcare professionals was safeguarded in line with the applicable legislation., Results: Spiritual care was rarely reported in the nursing records (i.e., the nursing care plans and the progress notes). However, traces of spiritual care appeared in the records of everyday nursing. Four themes emerged from the analysis: (1) relieving life pain and mitigating loss, (2) facilitating faith support, (3) welcoming family and friends, and (4) sustaining normality and sharing joy., Conclusions: This study showed that the nursing records of cancer care seldom expressed spiritual care concerning patients' life pain, loss, or faith support. Increasing nurses' competencies in mapping, documenting, and attending to spiritual care, as well as overcoming the limitations of documentation systems, could help address the spiritual needs of cancer patients., (© 2024 The Author(s). - Abstract
Background: Users of dietetic services have unmet spiritual needs, although no study has yet explored dietitians' opinion, perceptions or experience of assessing spiritual needs and delivering spiritual care in clinical practice., Methods: A cross-sectional survey assessed the role of UK dietitians in spiritual care., Results: Thirty-seven practicing dietitians, with experience ranging from newly qualified to over 21 years of practice, took part in the survey containing open and closed questions. Almost half (49%) of dietitians said they always conducted spiritual assessments and most (57%) said they sometimes made a referral for spiritual concerns. When spiritual issues arose, dietitians were highly likely to listen well (score 4.6 out of 5) and encourage service users in their own (the service user) spiritual or religious practices (score 4 out of 5). However, the likelihood of taking the initiative and enquiring about religious and spiritual issues was lower (score <3 out of 5) in all areas of practice including end of life care. This may have been because confidence around spiritual care was also low (score 4.7 out of 10), uncertainty was high (score >3.5 out of 5) and there was a strong desire to receive training (>4 out of 5). Qualitative responses expanded further on these results suggesting that there was positive "intention" to provide spiritual care, but lack of training was a significant barrier (qualitative theme: "inadequacies"). The recognition of necessity but uncertainty of how to meet spiritual needs was also shown through qualitative findings to be a source of "emotional labour", particularly where there were conflicting beliefs between a dietitian and service user., Conclusions: Although limited by a small sample size, these results provide new knowledge that spiritual care is considered an important part of the dietitians' role and that this is the case regardless of the dietitians own spiritual identity or religion. Dietitians would value training in spiritual care so that they can support service user needs more readily and confidently., (© 2024 The Authors. - Abstract
An international panel of experts have contributed to create the first comprehensive guide to spiritual care focussing on the palliative care setting from neonatal to aged care, combining the theoretical underpinnings of spirituality research with practical applications for its introduction into patient care. This book is structured to give a detailed understanding of the importance of spirituality for patients approaching the end of life as well as the impact of spiritual care on patients, families and carers. As the first step towards reaching this goal, the need for spiritual care training of clinicians is outlined, including the crucial step of nurturing one's own spiritual life. Ways to identify and assess patients'spiritual needs are explained. The experience of existential suffering is explored along with discussion of the ways it can manifest and how it can be addressed. The implementation of spiritual care in the clinical setting is detailed with illustrations of the roleof each member of the palliative care team and the benefits of an institutional approach. This valuable resource provides not only empirical evidence for the importance of spiritual care but also practical guidance for those wishing to practice it. It is ideal for all those caring for patients of all ages at the end of life, including palliative care clinicians, spiritual care professionals, students and researchers, and anyone interested in creating meaning in the face of imminent death.
