A new colorimetric and fluorescence turn‐on chemodosimeter for selective detection of GSH over Cys and Hcy with 34‐fold enhancement in emission intensity is reported. Probe 1 exhibited ultra‐sensitivity toward GSH with 0.125 nM detection limit and successfully displayed GSH detection in MCF‐7 live cells. Au nanoclusters with tailored photoluminescence can be obtained through controlled nanoparticle ligand interface chemistry. The present work reports molecular gold nanoclusters with tuneable photoluminescence emission from 600 to 700 nm using N,N′,N″‐trialkyl (11‐mercaptoundecyl)ammonium chloride ligands as capping‐agents. The tunability within red spectral region is regulated through specific interface chemistry between gold nanoclusters of molecular range and functional groups of the quaternary ammonium head over N,N′,N″‐trialkyl(11‐mercaptoundecyl)ammonium chloride. Combined understanding obtained from the spectroscopy, microscopy, and density functional theory studies demonstrate that the functional group specific electronic interactions at the interfaces steer the emission characteristics of "molecular" Au nanoparticles. The study clearly identifies that bulkier functional groups, i.e., triethyl, tripropyl, tributyl, and dimethyl benzene over N+ (of thiol ligand) through their steric effects minimize the particle size giving rise to tunable photoluminescence emission in red spectral region. However, the red shift seen in the emission Au nanoclusters with N‐(11‐mercaptoundecyl)‐N,N′‐dimethylbenzenammonium chloride ligand in contradiction to particle size effect is computationally proved to be due to the delocalization of electron density from benzene aromatic ring to N+ of ammonium head leading to a reduction in the HOMO‐LUMO energy gap. An iron‐catalyzed protocol for the synthesis of 3‐amino‐3‐aminomethyl‐2‐oxindole heterocyclic structures is disclosed employing isatins and non‐nucleophilic N‐methoxybenzamides. This reaction class is associated with broad scope and tolerates numerous functionalities, such as fluoro, chloro, bromo, iodo, trifluoromethyl, nitrile, ester, ether, and alkenyl, including heteroaryl – thiophene, benzothiophene, carbazolyl, indolyl, eugenol, and polycyclic cholesterol moieties. Detailed mechanistic investigations reveal that the reaction proceeds via iron‐catalyzed N−O bond cleavage in N‐methoxybenzamides, generating formaldehyde and benzamide, and through the intermediacy of isatin‐ketimines and N‐(hydroxymethyl)benzamides. Overall, this amidation reaction involves one C−C and two C−N bond‐forming tandem processes, providing a range of β‐amino‐aminomethyl‐oxindoles (45 examples) in up to 88% yields. In dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSC), controlling the dye‐aggregation on the metal‐oxide surface by appending the alkyl groups around the donor or π‐spacer unit of the dye is a potential approach to enhance DSSC efficiency. Further, rigidification of the dye structures by cyclization modulates the photophysical properties of the sensitizer. Here a series of donor‐acceptor‐donor (D‐A‐D) type far‐red active unsymmetrical squaraine dyes (SQA) have been designed and synthesized, where N,N‐dimethylaniline, methylated‐ and branched‐indoline have been used as donor units. These dyes showed absorption between 629–654 nm (λmax) with the molar extinction coefficient of 1.49–1.94×105 M−1 cm−1. Systematic enhancements in DSSC device efficiency have been observed due to the cyclization and alkyl‐groups incorporation in this set of dyes which were further enhanced with the addition of chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA). The highest DSSC device efficiency of 4.78 % (Jsc of 8.77 mA/cm2 and Voc of 692 mV) has been achieved for SQA3. The IPCE profile of SQA dyes indicates the contribution of aggregated structures for the photocurrent generation. Further, co‐sensitization of SQA3 dye with a complementary visible light active dye AK4 showed the enhanced device efficiency of 6.27 % with panchromatic IPCE response. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Although methane poses environmental concerns, it is employed in hydrogen production processes such as steam‐methane reforming (SMR), which has an issue of by‐products released. Initiatives are being pursued to address CO and CO2 emissions using carbon capture methods, with the goal of minimizing environmental harm while improving pure hydrogen generation from syngas. In this study, porous coordination network (PCN‐250) has been studied for its selective adsorption property towards CO, CO2 and H2O as syngas mixture to obtain pure hydrogen. For this purpose, the trimetallic cluster node Fe2M (where Fe2 represents the 3+ oxidation state and M is Cr(II), Mn(II), Fe(II), Co(II), Ni(II), and Zn(II)) has been considered. Fe(III) in combination with metal atoms like Cr(II), Co(II), or Ni(II) has been found to exhibit enhanced adsorption properties towards CO, CO2 and H2O. The molecule with the strongest interaction was found to be H2O over Fe(III)2Zn(II) cluster and weakest interaction was found between H2 and Fe(III)2Ni(II). Charge transfer, natural bond orbital (NBO) and spin density analyses reveal the electronic structural properties of this combination, leading to enhanced adsorption of CO and CO2. The growing interest in low-temperature direct ammonia fuel cells (DAFCs) arises from the utilization of a carbon-neutral ammonia source; however, DAFCs encounter significant electrode overpotentials due to the substantial energy barrier of the *NH 2 to *NH dehydrogenation, compounded by the facile deactivation by *N on the Pt surface. In this work, a unique catalyst, Pt 4 Ir@AlOOH/NGr i.e., Pt 4 Ir/ANGr, is introduced composed of PtIr alloy nanoparticles controllably decorated on the pseudo-boehmite phase of AlOOH-supported nitrogen-doped reduced graphene (AlOOH/NGr) composite, synthesized via the polyol reduction method. The detailed studies on the structural and electronic properties of the catalyst by XAS and VB-XPS reveal the possible electronic modulations. The optimized Pt 4 Ir/ANGr composition exhibits a significantly improved onset potential and mass activity for AOR. The DFT study confirms the OH ad species spillover by AlOOH and Pt 4 Ir (100) facilitates the conversion of the *NH 2 to *NH with minimal energy barriers. Finally, testing of DAFC at the system level using a membrane electrode assembly (MEA) with Pt 4 Ir/ANGr as the anode catalyst, demonstrating the suitability of the catalyst for its practical applications. Various Cu-based materials in diverse forms have been investigated as efficient catalysts for electrochemical reduction of CO2; however, they suffer from issues such as higher over potential and poor selectivity. The activity and selectivity of CO2 electro reduction have been shown to change significantly when the surface morphology (steps, kinks, and edges) of these catalysts is altered. In light of this, size and morphology dependent activity of selected copper clusters, Cun (n=2-20) have been evaluated for the activation and reduction of CO2 molecule. The phase-space of these copper clusters is rich in conformations of distinct morphologies starting from planar, 2D geometries to prolate-shaped geometries and also high-symmetry structures. The binding efficiency and the activation of CO2 are highest for medium sized clusters (n=9-17) with prolate-morphologies as compared to small or larger sized CunCO2 clusters that are existing mainly as planar (triangular, tetragonal etc.) or highly-symmetric geometries (icosahedron, capped-icosahedron etc.), respectively. The best performing (prolate-shaped) CunCO2 conformations are quite fluxional and also they are thermally stable, as demonstrated by the molecular dynamics simulations. Furthermore, on these CunCO2 conformations, the step-by-step hydrogenation pathways of CO2 to produce value-added products like methanol, formic acid, and methane are exceptionally favorable and energy-efficient., (© 2024 Wiley‐VCH GmbH.)

The photocatalytic generation of H 2 using covalent organic frameworks (COFs) is gaining more interest. While numerous reports have focused on the production of H 2 from deionized water using COFs, the inability to produce H 2 from industrial wastewater or seawater is a common limitation in many reported catalysts. Additionally, many of these reports lack a clear path to scale up the catalyst synthesis. In this study, we explore the prospect of hybridizing a COF with gC 3 N 4 to create a robust photocatalyst for efficient H 2 generation. This hybrid exhibits outstanding performance not only in deionized water, but also in wastewater, and simulated seawater. Furthermore, we explore the feasibility of the bulk-scale synthesis and successfully produce a 20 g hybrid catalyst in a single batch, and the synthesis method is scalable to achieve the commercial target. Remarkably, a maximum HER rate of 94 873 μmol g -1 h -1 and 109 125 μmol g -1 h -1 was obtained for the hybrid catalyst from industrial wastewater and simulated seawater, respectively. The performance of bulk-scale batches closely matches that of the small-scale ones. In a step towards understanding the structure-property relationship among Synthetic Cathinones (SCs), a combined methodology based on Density Functional Theory (DFT), Administration, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion, and Toxicity (ADMET) predictions, docking and molecular dynamics simulations have been applied to correlate physicochemical descriptors of various SCs to their biological activity. The results from DFT and molecular docking studies correlate well with each other explaining the biological activity trends of the studied SCs. Quantum mechanical descriptors viz. polarizability, electron affinity, ionization potential, chemical hardness, electronegativity, molecular electrostatic potential, and ion interaction studies unravel the distinguishingly reactive nature of Group D (pyrrolidine substituted) and Group E (methylenedioxy and pyrrolidine substituted) compounds. According to ADMET analysis, Group D and Group E molecules have a higher probability of permeating through the blood-brain barrier. Molecular docking results indicate that Phe76, Ala77, Asp79, Val152, Tyr156, Phe320, and Phe326 constitute the binding pocket residues of hDAT in which the most active ligands MDPV, MDPBP, and MDPPP are bound. Finally, to validate the derived quantum chemical descriptors and docking results, Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations are performed with homology-modelled hDAT (human dopamine transporter). The MD simulation results revealed that the majority of SCs remain stable within the hDAT protein's active sites via non-bonded interactions after 100 ns long simulations. The findings from DFT, ADMET analysis, molecular docking, and molecular dynamics simulation studies complement each other suggesting that pyrrolidine-substituted SCs (Group D and E), specifically, MPBP and PVN are proven potent SCs along with MDPV, validating various experimental observations.Communicated by Ramaswamy H.
