Cancer nanovaccine is a frontier immunotherapy strategy, in which the delivery carrier can protect antigen and adjuvant from degradation, increase blood circulation half-life, and improve antigen permeability and presentation, thus enhancing the security and potency of nanovaccine. To address the barriers of antigen delivery, we design and fabricate a kind of intracellular pH-sensitive glycopolypeptide coordinated nanovaccine (OVA-HPGM-Mn) with ∼30% loading capacity of ovalbumin (OVA). The nanovaccine OVA-HPGM-Mn could specifically deliver antigen to dendritic cells (DCs) and effectively escape from endolysosomes to cytoplasm after 6 h of incubation, while the blank counterpart HPGM-Mn acted as an adjuvant to promote DCs maturation and increase the percentage of maturated cells to 26.5% from 11.8% in vitro. Furthermore, the mannosylated polypeptide nanovaccine prolonged the retention time of OVA for 72 h to facilitate 29.5% DCs maturation in lymph nodes, activated 48.8% CD8+T cells in spleen, increased the CD8+/CD4+T cell ratio twice to 1.06, and upregulated the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines including TNF-α, IFN-γ, and IL-6, thus inhibiting the tumor growth of ∼80%. Consequently, this work provides a versatile strategy for the fabrication of glycosylated polypeptide coordinated nanomaterials for antigen delivery and cancer immunotherapy.

The collapse of goaf is one of the most serious geological disasters in cities where underground mineral resources are mined. The ground subsidence caused by the goaf limits the social and economic development of the area, while also endangering the safety of residents and property near the mining area. At present, support and grouting treatment methods are commonly used for the treatment of goaf. The cost of support treatment is relatively high, and it is difficult to control the collapse of the deeper goaf. Grouting treatment is suitable for conducting detailed investigations of underground spaces. The cost of complete grouting is high, and the timing of grouting termination is difficult to control. This paper aims to explore the optimization of grouting efficiency in the treatment of underground subsidence in goaf areas using the reserved pillar mining method. Through the stability calculation of the goaf pillars and roof, it can be concluded that the goaf pillars are unstable pillars under current conditions and are prone to damage under load interference. At present, surface subsidence has occurred in the goaf and requires treatment. Consider the comparison between the collapse control effect under different grouting rates and the complete grouting, and ultimately select the condition of 90% grouting rate to achieve the control effect. This conclusion can provide a certain theoretical reference basis for the treatment of similar goaf collapse, and has certain practical significance.

Abstract Infectious disease outbreaks transcend the medical and public health realms, triggering widespread panic and impeding socio-economic development. Considering that self-limiting diarrhoea of sporadic cases is usually underreported, the Salmonella outbreak (SO) study offers a unique opportunity for source tracing, spatiotemporal correlation, and outbreak prediction. To summarize the pattern of SO and estimate observational epidemiological indicators, 1,134 qualitative reports screened from 1949 to 2023 were included in the systematic review dataset, which contained a 506-study meta-analysis dataset. In addition to the dataset comprising over 50 columns with a total of 46,494 entries eligible for inclusion in systematic reviews or input into prediction models, we also provide initial literature collection datasets and datasets containing socio-economic and climate information for relevant regions. This study has a broad impact on advancing knowledge regarding epidemic trends and prevention priorities in diverse salmonellosis outbreaks and guiding rational policy-making or predictive modeling to mitigate the infringement upon the right to life imposed by significant epidemics.

The toppling deformation in bank slope of V-shaped Gorge reservoirs in Southwest China is very common. After the impoundment of the reservoir, geological disasters such as collapse and landslide may occur in toppling bank slope, which poses a threat to the normal operation of hydropower projects and personnel safety. Therefore, it is of great engineering significance to study its genetic mechanism and development law. The trenching of river valley is one of the main factors of bank slope toppling deformation. In the process of river action, the free face is formed on the slope, and the rock mass is unloaded to the free face, resulting in toppling. Taking the bank slope of a reservoir in the V-shaped Gorge area on the edge of the Qinghai Tibet Plateau in Southwest China as an example, this paper studies the relationship between river action and the development of toppling. According to the seven terraces formed on both banks of the river, the trenching of the river valley is divided into seven stages. The toppling development characteristics of each stage are analyzed by discrete element method. According to the development characteristics of toppling deformation category, the toppling deformation is divided into five stages, they are initial toppling deformation stage, toppling development stage, intensified toppling deformation stage, temporary stability stage and failure stage. The research results can help to determine the development type and stage of bank slope toppling deformation in V-shaped Gorge area, so as to predict its further development deformation characteristics.

Underground coal gasification (UCG) is an efficient method for the conversion of deep coal resources into energy. The scope of this work is to model the subsidence of four gasification cavities with a size of 30 m × 30 m × 15 m, separated by 15 m wide pillars. Two scenarios of gasification sequence are modelled, one with the gasification of cavities 1 and 2 followed by 3 and 4, and the other one with the sequence of cavities 1 and 3, followed by 2 and 4. The results show that the final surface subsidence after gasification of four cavities is 9.8 mm and the gasification sequence has an impact only on the subsidence at the intermediate stage but has no impact on the final subsidence after all four cavities are formed, when only the elasticity regime is considered. Additionally, the maximum surface subsidence for the studied cavities of different sizes ranges from 0.016 mm to 7.14 mm, and the relationship between the subsidence and the cavity volume is approximately linear. Finally, a prediction model of surface subsidence deformation is built up using the elastic plate theory, and the formula of surface deformation at a random point is given. The maximum difference between measured and calculated deformation is 4.6%, demonstrating that the proposed method can be used to predict the ground subsidence induced by UCG.

ABSTRACT Pseudorabies virus (PRV) is the causative pathogen of Aujeszky’s disease. It causes high mortality and miscarriage rates in the infected swine, leading to tremendous economic losses in the global swine industry. PRV has also been demonstrated to trigger viral encephalitis in humans. The eradication policy and large-scale vaccination have been adopted globally as the most effective strategy against PRV. A simple, fast, and sensitive diagnostic method is highly demanded to differentiate between vaccinated and infected swine. Herein, we designed a detection system combining multienzyme isothermal rapid amplification (MIRA) and CRISPR-Cas12a (termed MIRA-Cas12a), characterized by high sensitivity and specificity, low cost, less equipment, and convenient visualization. By targeting the gB, gE, and TK genes of PRV, the MIRA-Cas12a assay is able to distinguish the infected, uninfected, and vaccinated swine by the naked eyes in 40 min (from DNA extraction to result readout) and with comparable sensitivity to conventional quantitative PCR. A 37°C heater and a source of blue light are all the equipment required to detect PRV. Thus, the MIRA-Cas12a detection will facilitate PRV surveillance and minimize the financial losses to the swine industry. IMPORTANCE Pseudorabies virus (PRV) causes high mortality and miscarriage rates in the infected swine, and the eradication policy coupled with large-scale vaccination of live attenuated vaccines has been adopted globally against PRV. Differential diagnosis of the vaccinated and infected swine is highly demanded. Our multienzyme isothermal rapid amplification (MIRA)-Cas12a detection method described in this study can diagnose PRV with a superior sensitivity comparable to the quantitative PCR (qPCR) and a competitive detection speed (only half the time as qPCR needs). The portable feature and the simple procedure of MIRA-Cas12a make it easier to deploy for clinical diagnosis, even in resource-limited settings. The MIRA-Cas12a method would provide immediate and accurate diagnostic information for policymakers to respond promptly.

To further enhance the security of image encryption, a new chaos-based image encryption algorithm (IEA) based on discrete Fourier transform and Joseph traversal is proposed to encrypt the plain image in both the frequency domain and space domain simultaneously. In the proposed IEA, the logistic map is used to generate the appropriate chaotic sequence, and the improved Joseph traversal is used to scramble the image in different starting positions and variable step sizes. Then, block diffusion is performed at the end. The main finding concerning the proposed IEA is that the combination of discrete Fourier transform and Joseph traversal can enhance the security of the image information, which has been validated by measuring the performance in resisting the common types of attacks.

Skin cancer is the predominant form of cancer worldwide, including 75% of all cancer cases. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the spectrum-aided visual enhancer (SAVE) in detecting skin cancer. This paper presents the development of a novel algorithm for snapshot hyperspectral conversion, capable of converting RGB images into hyperspectral images (HSI). The integration of band selection with HSI has facilitated the identification of a set of narrow band images (NBI) from the RGB images. This study utilizes various iterations of the You Only Look Once (YOLO) machine learning (ML) framework to assess the precision, recall, and mean average precision in the detection of skin cancer. YOLO is commonly preferred in medical diagnostics due to its real-time processing speed and accuracy, which are essential for delivering effective and efficient patient care. The precision, recall, and mean average precision (mAP) of the SAVE images show a notable enhancement in comparison to the RGB images. This work has the potential to greatly enhance the efficiency of skin cancer detection, as well as improve early detection rates and diagnostic accuracy. Forestation is a common measure to control erosion-induced soil and carbon (C) loss, but the effect can vary substantially between different types of forest. Here, we measured event-based runoff, soil, dissolved organic carbon (DOC), particulate organic carbon (POC) and total C loss with runoff plots (20 m × 5 m) in a broad-leaved and a coniferous forest in subtropical China and explored their relationships with rainfall amount, average intensity, maximum 5-min intensity and rainfall erosivity. The broad-leaved forest had a denser canopy but sparse understory vegetation while the coniferous forest had a relatively open canopy but dense understory vegetation. The results showed that runoff, soil, DOC, POC and total C losses were all significantly higher in the broad-leaved forest than the coniferous forest despite the potentially higher canopy interception associated with the greater leaf area index of the broad-leaved forest. The mean runoff in the broad-leaved forest was 3.03 ± 0.20 m3 ha−1 event−1 (mean ± standard error) and 12.49 ± 0.18 m3 ha−1 event−1 in the coniferous forest. The mean soil, DOC, POC and total C loss (kg ha−1 event−1) was 1.12 ± 0.16, 0.045 ± 0.003, 0.118 ± 0.016 and 0.163 ± 0.017, respectively, in the broad-leaved forest and 0.66 ± 0.09, 0.020 ± 0.002, 0.060 ± 0.009 and 0.081 ± 0.010, respectively, in the coniferous forest. Runoff and DOC losses were driven by rainfall in two forests, but the key rainfall characteristic driving soil, POC and total C losses was different in the broad-leaved forest from that in the coniferous forest due to their different understory patterns. Soil, POC and total C losses were mostly driven by rainfall amount in the broad-leaved forest but by EI30 in the conifer forest. Our findings highlight that the response of erosion-induced carbon loss to rainfall characteristics differs between different forest types of the same age but contrasting overstory and understory vegetation covers. Moreover, our study underscores the overlooked significance of understory vegetation in regulating these effects. Objectives To compare the risk of PsA in psoriasis (PsO) patients treated with acitretin vs DMARDs. Methods This retrospective study used Taiwan's National Health Insurance Research Database from 1997 to 2013. Adult PsO patients without PsA prescribed acitretin or DMARDs for ≥30 days within a year were assigned to the acitretin cohort or DMARDs cohort, respectively. Patients in the acitretin cohort prescribed DMARDs for >7 days, or in the DMARDs cohort prescribed acitretin for >7 days, were excluded. Cumulative incidence of PsA were determined within both cohorts using the Kaplan–Meier method. The hazard ratio (HR) comparing acitretin to DMARDs was calculated with Cox regression models, adjusting for demographic and clinical covariates including the use of NSAIDs and comorbidities. Results The study included 1948 patients in each cohort. The 5-year cumulative incidence of PsA in the acitretin cohort was lower than that in the reference cohort (7.52% vs 9.93%; P  = 0.005), with a more pronounced difference in the subpopulation receiving NSAIDs treatment. However, in subpopulations without NSAIDs treatment, the 5-year cumulative incidence of PsA in the acitretin cohort was comparable to the DMARDs cohort (5.26% vs 6.98%; P  = 0.106). Acitretin was not associated with PsA development in PsO (HR 0.83, 95% confidence interval 0.65–1.05). This risk remained consistent regardless of adjustments for NSAID treatment and comorbidities. Other independent risk factors for PsA included female and NSAIDs treatment. Conclusion Compared with DMARDs, acitretin was not associated with increased PsA risk in PsO patients. Objective: To examine the effects of an intervention with fructooligosaccharides (FOS), Saccharomyces boulardii, and their combination in a mouse model of colitis and to explore the mechanisms underlying these effects. Methods: The effects of FOS, S. boulardii, and their combination were evaluated in a DSS-induced mouse model of colitis. To this end, parameters such as body weight, the disease activity index (DAI), and colon length were examined in model mice. Subsequently, ELISA was employed to detect the serum levels of proinflammatory cytokines. Histopathological analysis was performed to estimate the progression of inflammation in the colon. Gas chromatography was used to determine the content of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) in the feces of model mice. Finally, 16S rRNA sequencing technology was used to analyze the gut microbiota composition. Results: FOS was slight effective in treating colitis and colitis-induced intestinal dysbiosis in mice. Meanwhile, S. boulardii could significantly reduced the DAI, inhibited the production of IL-1β, and prevented colon shortening. Nevertheless, S. boulardii treatment alone failed to effectively regulate the gut microbiota. In contrast, the combined administration of FOS/S. boulardii resulted in better anti-inflammatory effects and enabled microbiota regulation. The FOS/S. boulardii combination (109   CFU/ml and 107   CFU/ml) significantly reduced the DAI, inhibited colitis, lowered IL-1β and TNF-α production, and significantly improved the levels of butyric acid and isobutyric acid. However, FOS/S. boulardii 109   CFU/ml exerted stronger anti-inflammatory effects, inhibited IL-6 production and attenuated colon shortening. Meanwhile, FOS/S. boulardii 107   CFU/ml improved microbial regulation and alleviated the colitis-induced decrease in microbial diversity. The combination of FOS and S. boulardii significantly increased the abundance of Parabacteroides and decreased the abundance of Escherichia–Shigella. Additionally, it promoted the production of acetic acid and propionic acid. Conclusion: Compared with single administration, the combination can significantly increase the abundance of beneficial bacteria such as lactobacilli and Bifidobacteria and effectively regulate the gut microbiota composition. These results provide a scientific rationale for the prevention and treatment of colitis using a FOS/S. boulardii combination. Tropical cyclones are often accompanied by large amount of precipitation potentially impacting stream hydrochemistry. Global warming is altering typhoon disturbance regime. Little is known about how cyclone changes, especially cyclone‐frequency reduction may affect stream hydrochemistry. In this study, we compared water and nutrient input via precipitation and output via streamflow between a frequent‐typhoon period (2013–2017), with 1.2 typhoon yr−1, and a no‐typhoon period (2018–2022) at a long‐term monitoring site, the Fushan Experimental Forest of Taiwan. Precipitation and streamflow quantities were not different between the two periods because typhoons increased the fluctuation but not the mean of monthly precipitation in the major typhoon months (July–September). Inputs of Mg2+, NO3−, and SO42− via precipitation were greater in the frequent‐typhoon period than the no‐typhoon period while inputs of other ions were not different between the two periods. Only the output of Mg2+ was different between the two periods, greater in the frequent‐typhoon period. Output/input ratio of NO3− was greater in the no‐typhoon period than the frequent‐typhoon period despite the greater input in the frequent‐typhoon period, while no differences were found for others. Increases in mineralization rates due to warming is suggested to be the cause of the greater NO3− output/input ratio during the no‐typhoon period. Relationships between stream discharge and ion export were similar between the two periods both with and without removing typhoon events. The limited variation in hydrochemistry between periods of contrasting cyclone activities suggests high resilience of the undisturbed subtropical forests to changes in cyclone frequency at the decadal scale. The frequency and intensity of tropical cyclones is changing because of climate change. We examined how reduction in typhoon frequency affects nutrient cycling in a forest watershed by comparing streamwater quality and quantity between a frequent (six) typhoon period (2013–2017) and a no‐typhoon period (2018–2022) in a forest watershed in Taiwan. Surprisingly, although the typhoons brought substantial rainfall, the annual and typhoon season rainfall and streamwater were similar between the two periods. Input and output of most ions were also similar between the two periods. However, NO3− export was higher in the no‐typhoon period, possibly resulting from greater mineralization associated with warmer temperatures. Patterns of ion export in relation to streamwater were also similar between the two periods. Thus, the hydrochemistry of the undisturbed forest was resilent to changes in typhoon frequency. Modern corporate success is primarily reliant on a perfect balance of institutional effectiveness, innovation, and sustainability. Therefore, the primary goal of this research is to evaluate the impact of institutional frameworks on corporate innovation in developing countries. To achieve the said objective, we use firm and country data from multiple sources, and the final dataset consists of 24,166 observations from 41 developing countries during 2014–2018. For the analysis, we employ ordered probit and instrumental variable ordered probit regression models. According to the results, the success of corporate innovation in developing countries hinges on the strength of legal, financial, administrative, political, and religious institutions. Moreover, such associations stand out more clearly in nations with strong and stable institutional frameworks. The regression results show that innovative enterprises are more prevalent in strong institutional environments compared to those in poor institutional environments. These results also indicate that a strong rule of law, protection of property rights, easy access to financing, developed financial markets, an ethical environment, control of corruption, a stable political system, a democratic government, religious diversity, and freedom all contribute to corporate innovation. Moreover, institutional efficiency and corporate viability fuel the engine of corporate innovation, encouraging enterprises to create game‐changing products and services. These results contribute to the field of innovation management by considering institutional settings for sustainable development. BACKGROUND: Early breast cancer diagnosis is of great clinical importance for selecting treatment options, improving prognosis, and enhancing the quality of patients' survival. OBJECTIVE: We investigated the value of virtual touch tissue imaging average grayscale values (VAGV) helper Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) in diagnosing breast malignancy. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 141 breast tumors in 134 patients. All breast lesions were diagnosed pathologically by biopsy or surgical excision. All patients first underwent conventional ultrasound (US) followed by virtual touch tissue imaging (VTI). The measurement of the VAGV of the lesion was performed by Image J software. BI-RADS classification was performed for each lesion according to the US. We performed a two-by-two comparison of the diagnostic values of VAGV, BI-RADS, and BI-RADS + VAGV. RESULTS: VAGV was lower in malignant tumors than in benign ones (35.82 ± 13.39 versus 73.58 ± 42.69, P < 0.001). The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) value, sensitivity, and specificity of VAGV was 0.834, 84.09%, and 69.07%, respectively. Among BI-RADS, VAGV, and BI-RADS + VAGV, BI-RADS + VAGV had the highest AUC (0.926 versus 0.882, P = 0.0066; 0.926 versus 0.834, P = 0.0012). There was perfect agreement between the two radiologists using VAGV (ICC = 0.9796) and substantial agreement using BI-RADS (Kappa = 0.725). CONCLUSION: Our study shows that VAGV can accurately diagnose breast cancer. VAGV effectively improves the diagnostic performance of BI-RADS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Previous neuroimaging studies have revealed abnormal brain networks in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) in emotional processing. While any cognitive task consists of a series of stages, little is yet known about the topology of functional brain networks in MDD for these stages during emotional face recognition. To address this problem, electroencephalography (EEG)- based functional brain networks of MDD patients at different stages of facial information processing were investigated in this study. First, EEG signals were collected from 16 patients with MDD and 18 age-, gender-, and educationmatched normal subjects when performing an emotional face recognition task. Second, the global field power (GFP) method was employed to divide group-averaged event-related potentials into different stages. Third, using the phase transfer entropy (PTE) approach, the brain networks of MDD patients and normal individuals were constructed for each stage in negative and positive face processing, respectively. Finally, we compared the topological properties of brain networks of each stage between the two groups using graph theory approaches. The results showed that the analyzed three stages of emotional face processing corresponded to specific neurophysiological phases, namely, visual perception, face recognition, and emotional decision-making. It was also demonstrated that depressed patients showed abnormally decreased characteristic path length at the visual perception stage of negative face recognition and normalized characteristic path length in the stage of emotional decision-making during positive face processing compared to healthy subjects. Furthermore, while both the MDD and normal groups' brain networks were found to exhibit small-world network characteristics, the brain network of patients with depression tended to be randomized. Moreover, for patients with MDD, the centro-parietal region may lose its status as a hub in the process of facial expression identification. Together, our findings suggested that altered emotional function in MDD patients might be associated with disruptions in the topological organization of functional brain networks during emotional face recognition, which further deepened our understanding of the emotion processing dysfunction underlying MDD. Psoriasis can affect individuals of all age groups. While the epidemiology of psoriasis in adults has been extensively studied, there is limited research specifically investigating pediatric cases. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and incidence of skin psoriasis (PsO) and psoriatic arthritis (PsA) among pediatric patients in Taiwan. A nationwide cohort of 17 535 patients with psoriatic diseases under the age of 18 was enrolled from the National Health Insurance Research Database for the period 2000–2013, including 16 129 PsO patients and 2022 PsA patients. The age‐ and sex‐standardized prevalence and incidence of pediatric PsO and PsA were calculated. The 2007 yearly reports of age‐ and sex‐specific distribution of the general population was adopted as a standard. The results showed that between 2000 and 2013, the prevalence for pediatric PsO increased from 0.03% to 0.07%, and from 0.003% to 0.014% for pediatric PsA. During the same period, the incidence slightly decreased from 19.81 to 17.55 per 100 000 for pediatric PsO but increased from 1.02 to 5.06 per 100 000 for pediatric PsA. Adolescents (12 to <18 years) had higher prevalence and incidence rates of PsO and PsA than children (aged ≤ 12 years), with no sex difference observed in either age group. PsA preceding PsO was more common among children than adolescents (27.07% vs. 13.46%). This study provides important insights into the prevalence and incidence of psoriatic diseases in the pediatric population. Using platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections to treat urological diseases has attracted great attention. This study investigated the impact of cytokine concentrations in PRP on the treatment outcome of patients with recurrent urinary tract infection (rUTI) and interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS). Forty patients with IC/BPS and twenty-one patients with rUTI were enrolled for four-monthly repeated PRP injections. PRP was collected at the first injection and analyzed with multiplex immunoassays for 12 target cytokines. In patients with IC/BPS, a Global Response Assessment (GRA) score ≥ 2 was defined as a successful outcome. In rUTI patients, ≤2 episodes of UTI recurrence during one year of follow-up was considered a successful outcome. Nineteen (47.5%) patients with IC/BPS and eleven (52.4%) patients with rUTI had successful outcomes. The IC/BPS patients with successful outcomes had significantly lower levels of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in their PRP than those with unsuccessful outcomes (p = 0.041). The rUTI patients with successful outcomes also had a lower level of TNF-α (p = 0.025) and a higher level of epidermal growth factor (p = 0.035) and transforming growth factor-β2 (p = 0.024) in PRP than those with unsuccessful outcomes. A lower level of TNF-α in PRP might be a potentially predictive factor of treatment outcome. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The precise control of nitrogen content of high nitrogen stainless steel is the key control factor of production. Taking Mn18Cr18N high nitrogen steel as an example， this paper studies the relationship between steel composition， temperature， nitrogen pressure and nitrogen content control in pressure induction melting process by using metallurgical principle， factage thermodynamic software and thermal state experiment and detection analysis methods.The results show that the reliability of the "composition temperature pressure" relationship equation based on the theoretical data is high， and the theoretical and predicted values of nitrogen pressure in the three heats experiment are in good agreement with the actual control values. The thermal experiment finds that when the contents of Mn and Cr remain unchanged， increasing the nitrogen partial pressure can increase the N content in the ingot， but when the nitrogen reaches about 1%， the effect of increasing the nitrogen content by increasing the nitrogen partial pressure decreases.When the content of Mn or Cr is low， the nitrogen content can be increased by increasing the nitrogen partial pressure. Reducing the content of C and Si in steel is beneficial to the alloying and stable control of high nitrogen content in steel. It is advisable to control the melting temperature of the pressure furnace at 1 500-1 550 ℃ and the nitrogen pressure at 0.225-0.325 MPa when the nitrogen content in Mn18Cr19N steel is necessary to be controlled ≥ 0.8%.
