Electrocatalytic H2 production from seawater, recognized as a promising technology utilizing offshore renewables, faces challenges from chloride-induced reactions and corrosion. Here, We introduce a catalytic surface where OH– dominates over Cl– in adsorption and activation, which is crucial for O2 production. Our NiFe-based anode, enhanced by nearby Cr sites, achieves low overpotentials and selective alkaline seawater oxidation. It outperforms the RuO2 counterpart in terms of lifespan in scaled-up stacks, maintaining stability for over 2500 h in three-electrode tests. Ex situ/in situ analyses reveal that Cr(III) sites enrich OH–, while Cl– is repelled by Cr(VI) sites, both of which are well-dispersed and close to NiFe, enhancing charge transfer and overall electrode performance. Such multiple effects fundamentally boost the activity, selectively, and chemical stability of the NiFe-based electrode. This development marks a significant advance in creating durable, noble-metal-free electrodes for alkaline seawater electrolysis, highlighting the importance of well-distributed catalytic sites. Developing highly active and stable oxygen evolution electrocatalysts is crucial for enabling large-scale hydrogen production from seawater. It is of great importance to design and develop electrocatalysts that are both long-lasting and efficient for seawater oxidation. Herein, a three-dimensional porous cauliflower-like Ni3S2 foam on Ni foam (Ni3S2 foam/NF) is proposed as a high-performance electrocatalyst for the oxygen evolution reaction in alkaline seawater. The as-synthesis Ni3S2 foam/NF achieves exceptional efficacy, achieving a current density of 100 mA·cm−2 at mere overpotential of 369 mV. Influenza A virus (IAV) continues to pose serious threats to the global animal industry and public health security. Identification of critical host factors engaged in the life cycle of IAV and elucidation of the underlying mechanisms of their action are particularly important for the discovery of potential new targets for the development of anti-influenza drugs. Herein, we identified Hydroxyacyl-CoA Dehydratase 3 (HACD3) as a new host factor that supports the replication of IAV. Downregulating the expression of HACD3 reduced the level of viral PB1 protein in IAV-infected cells and in cells that were transiently transfected to express PB1. Silencing HACD3 expression had no effect on the level of PB1 mRNA but could promote the lysosome-mediated autophagic degradation of PB1 protein. Further investigation revealed that HACD3 interacted with PB1 and selective autophagic receptor SQSTM1/p62, and HACD3 competed with SQSTM1/p62 for the interaction with PB1, which prevented PB1 from SQSTM1/p62-mediated autophagic degradation. Collectively, these findings establish that HACD3 plays a positive regulatory role in IAV replication by stabilizing the viral PB1 protein. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Nitrate (NO3−), a nitrogen-containing pollutant, is prevalent in aqueous solutions, contributing to a range of environmental and health-related issues. The electrocatalytic reduction of NO3− holds promise as a sustainable approach to both eliminating NO3− and generating valuable ammonia (NH3). Nevertheless, the reduction reaction of NO3− (NO3−RR), involving 8-electron transfer process, is intricate, necessitating highly efficient electrocatalysts to facilitate the conversion of NO3− to NH3. In this study, Fedoped Co3O4 nanowire strutted three-dimensional (3D) pinewood-derived carbon (Fe-Co3O4/PC) is proposed as a high-efficiency NO3−RR electrocatalyst for NH3 production. Operating within 0.1 M NaOH containing NO3−, Fe-Co3O4/PC demonstrates exceptional performance, obtain an impressively large NH3 yield of 0.55 mmol·h−1·cm−2 and an exceptionally high Faradaic efficiency of 96.5% at −0.5 V, superior to its Co3O4/PC counterpart (0.2 mmol·h−1·cm−2, 73.3%). Thaumatin-like proteins (TLP), existing in various fruits, have allergenic and pro-inflammatory activities. The current research attempts to reduce the pro-inflammatory activity of litchi TLP (LcTLP) through high hydrostatic pressure (HHP). This study demonstrated that HHP (250-500 MPa, 5-10 min) was a potential technique to reduce the pro-inflammatory activity of LcTLP, which was attributed to the irreversible destruction of the active domain, ie., V-cleft. SDS-PAGE showed no change in the protein profile. Continuous HHP treatment promoted LcTLP unfolding and then reassembling (400 MPa was the transition pressure), and the content of β-sheets decreased from 35.4% to 31.1%. HHP treatment could mitigate inflammatory responses of LcTLP, as confirmed by ELISA and western blot. Molecular dynamics simulations showed significant changes in the residue network under HHP, thereby affecting the V-cleft. Deep eutectic solvent (DES) has been recognized as a promising plasticizer for the preparation of biodegradable food packaging films. In addition, DES-plasticized chitosan (CS) films could also serve as a favorable carrier for loading active components. In this work, a ternary composite film was fabricated by plasticizing chitosan with DES and the active ingredient proanthocyanidin (PA) was used as a cross-linking agent. The incorporation of PAs significantly enhanced the toughness, elasticity, and hydrophobicity of the ternary CS-DES-PA composite films. It achieved antioxidant and bacteriostatic functions. In particular, the ternary CS-DES-PA composite films had a thickness of 0.16 ± 0.01 μm, a tensile strength of 2.63 ± 0.48 MPa, and an elongation about 73.22 %. They also have improved water resistance, UV blocking, with a high-water contact angle of 88.4° and a low water swelling of 5 % on the surface of the film. Meanwhile, the PAs in the film could slow down the browning of litchi fruits. This ternary blended film (CS-DES-PA) achieves better compatibility of the active ingredient in the film-forming substrate. Seawater electrolysis holds tremendous promise for the generation of green hydrogen (H 2 ). However, the system of seawater-to-H 2 faces significant hurdles, primarily due to the corrosive effects of chlorine compounds, which can cause severe anodic deterioration. Here, a nickel phosphide nanosheet array with amorphous NiMoO 4 layer on Ni foam (Ni 2 P@NiMoO 4 /NF) is reported as a highly efficient and stable electrocatalyst for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in alkaline seawater. Such Ni 2 P@NiMoO 4 /NF requires overpotentials of just 343 and 370 mV to achieve industrial-level current densities of 500 and 1000 mA cm -2 , respectively, surpassing that of Ni 2 P/NF (470 and 555 mV). Furthermore, it maintains consistent electrolysis for over 500 h, a significant improvement compared to that of Ni 2 P/NF (120 h) and Ni(OH) 2 /NF (65 h). Electrochemical in situ Raman spectroscopy, stability testing, and chloride extraction analysis reveal that is situ formed MoO 4 2- /PO 4 3- from Ni 2 P@NiMoO 4 during the OER test to the electrode surface, thus effectively repelling Cl - and hindering the formation of harmful ClO - ., (© 2024 Wiley‐VCH GmbH.)

A-type proanthocyanidins (PAs) are a subgroup of PAs that differ from B-type PAs by the presence of an ether bond between two consecutive constitutive units. This additional C-O-C bond gives them a more stable and hydrophobic character. They are of increasing interest due to their potential multiple nutritional effects with low toxicity in food processing and supplement development. They have been identified in several plants. However, the role of A-type PAs, especially their complex polymeric form (degree of polymerization and linkage), has not been specifically discussed and explored. Therefore, recent advances in the physicochemical and structural changes of A-type PAs and their functional properties during extraction, processing, and storing are evaluated. In addition, discussions on the sources, structures, bioactivities, potential applications in the food industry, and future research trends of their derivatives are highlighted. Litchis, cranberries, avocados, and persimmons are all favorable plant sources. Α-type PAs contribute directly or indirectly to human nutrition via the regulation of different degrees of polymerization and bonding types. Thermal processing could have a negative impact on the amount and structure of A-type PAs in the food matrix. More attention should be focused on nonthermal technologies that could better preserve their architecture and structure. The diversity and complexity of these compounds, as well as the difficulty in isolating and purifying natural A-type PAs, remain obstacles to their further applications. A-type PAs have received widespread acceptance and attention in the food industry but have not yet achieved their maximum potential for the future of food.
