Several single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the vitamin D receptor (VDR) have been observed in association with susceptibility to various pathologies, including autism, major depression, age-related changes in cognitive functioning, and Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases. This study aimed to establish the association between Fok1/Apa1 polymorphic variants and anxious/depressive symptoms in nonclinical adolescents from central Italy, with the goal of identifying the risk of developing both symptoms. We found no significant difference in genotype distribution or dominant/recessive models of Fok1/Apa1 VDR polymorphic variants between subjects with anxious/depressive symptoms and controls. HN9.10e cell lines carrying the AA genotype for Fok1 and the CC genotype for Apa1 responded better to treatment with vitamin D3 than cell lines carrying the AG genotype for Fok1 and CA genotype for Apa1. Cell lines carrying the GG genotype for Fok1 and the AA genotype for Apa1 did not respond at all, suggesting avenues for future studies in both the general population and individuals with mental and/or neuropsychiatric disorders. These studies suggest that the level of response to vitamin D3 administered to prevent and/or treat mental or neurological disorders could depend on the polymorphic variants of the vitamin D receptor. Perceived parenting is a crucial and complex factor for the psychological well-being of adolescents. The Adolescent Family Process Short-Form (AFP-SF) investigates the perception of adolescents' maternal and paternal parenting across six dimensions: closeness, support, communication, monitoring, peer approval, and conflict. This was the first study to evaluate the psychometric properties of the AFP-SF in 378 Italian adolescents (41.30% boys). The data fit the originally conceptualized models well. Reliability was acceptable and the measurement invariance across sex was established. The results showed that adolescents perceived more monitoring by mothers than fathers. Sex differences in maternal parenting were also found, with girls showing more monitoring and communication than boys. AFP-SF subscales correlated positively with subjective well-being except for conflict, which showed a negative correlation. These findings suggest that AFP-SF is a valid and reliable tool for the assessment of perceived parenting among Italian adolescents. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Numerous studies have explored the relationship between sleep quality and internalizing symptoms (i.e., depression and anxiety), but there is uncertainty about their directional pathways. Here, we investigated the longitudinal associations between sleep quality and internalizing symptoms and tested the potential mediation effect of perceived stress., Methods: A longitudinal survey of Chinese healthcare students (N = 343) was conducted at three time points: Time 1 (baseline), Time 2 (1 week later), and Time 3 (3 weeks after Time 2). Participants completed the Sleep Quality Questionnaire (SQQ), Perceived Stress Questionnaire-30 (PSQ-30), and the Patient Health Questionnaire-4 (PHQ-4) at each time point, where each asked about participants' experiences over the past week. A higher SQQ score indicated poorer sleep quality, while higher scores on the PHQ-4 and PSQ-30 indicated more severe internalizing symptoms and perceived stress. Using autoregressive cross-lagged panel modeling (CLPM), we examined the bidirectional relationships among sleep quality, internalizing symptoms, and perceived stress., Results: CLPM revealed that baseline sleep quality negatively predicted subsequent changes in internalizing symptoms, and vice versa. While perceived stress mediated the relationship between sleep quality and internalizing symptoms at the 3-week follow-up (β = 0.017, p = .038), it did not mediate the reverse relationship between internalizing symptoms and sleep quality., Conclusions: There was a negative bidirectional relationship between sleep quality and internalizing symptoms. The present study examined longitudinal trajectory classes and correlates of triarchic psychopathy domains (boldness, meanness, and disinhibition) from age 16 to 22, leveraging Multidimensional Personality Questionnaire (MPQ)-based triarchic scales data gathered on a large community sample ( n s ranging between 483 and 775 across waves) oversampled for parental substance use disorder (SUD). Growth mixture models were conducted to examine longitudinal trajectory classes for each domain, and their associations with environmental covariates (e.g., neighborhood disadvantage and parental SUD) and outcomes at age 22 (e.g., violent behavior, antisocial personality disorder, and an overall problem index capturing internalizing symptoms and social problems). For boldness, all participants fell in the same class showing relative stability over time. Comparable solutions were recovered for meanness and disinhibition (high-stable/increasing, mid-range decreasing, and low-decreasing). Links with external correlates supported well-known differences between boldness and both meanness and disinhibition and additionally revealed interesting differences between meanness and disinhibition, suggesting that environmental covariates better discriminated meanness trajectory classes. These results demonstrate considerable developmental heterogeneity in these traits across adolescence into young adulthood, which relates to outcomes associated with antisociality and general life struggles. Further, these findings support the adequacy of the MPQ as an operationalization tool for longitudinal investigations on psychopathy.

Introduction: Mindful movement is a comprehensive approach that integrates various bodily, emotional and cognitive aspects into physical activity, promoting overall well-being. This study assessed the impact of a mindful movement program, known as Movimento Biologico (MB), on participants psychological well-being (PWB), positive mental health (PMH), sense of coherence (SOC), and interoceptive awareness., Methods: MB program was conducted for students attending the bachelor's degree in Kinesiology and Sport Sciences of University of Perugia over 8 weeks (from October 16 to November 27, 2022). Participants were requested to fill in four questionnaires before and after the MB program: (1) 18-item PWB scale; (2) 9-item PMH scale; (3) 13-item SOC scale; (4) 32-item scale for Multidimensional Assessment of Interoceptive Awareness (MAIA). Wilcoxon signed-rank tests were used to assess changes, with significance set at p  < 0.05., Results: Thirty-eight students (mean age 21.2, 60.5% male) participated. Several MAIA subscales, including noticing ( p  = 0.003), attention management ( p  = 0.002), emotional awareness ( p  = 0.007), self-regulation ( p  < 0.001), body listening ( p  = 0.001), and trusting ( p  = 0.001), showed significant improvements. PMH increased significantly ( p  = 0.015), and there was a significant enhancement in the autonomy subscale of PWB ( p  = 0.036). SOC and overall PWB also improved, though not significantly., Conclusion: The MB program significantly improved participants' positive mental health and interoceptive awareness. Objective: Despite accumulating evidence of significant albeit moderate associations between childhood trauma and psychopathy, little is known about the potential moderators of these associations. To advance knowledge in this area, the present study investigated the moderating role of resilience in the childhood trauma-psychopathy link., Method: A community sample of 521 adult participants from the Netherlands (40.1% men; M age = 35.27 years, SD = 15.99) completed two self-report questionnaires measuring psychopathic personality traits: a self-report measure of resilience and a retrospective measure of childhood traumatic experiences. Correlation analyses were employed to investigate bivariate associations among study variables. Moderated multiple regression analyses with bootstrapping followed by simple slope analyses were employed to examine Childhood Trauma × Resilience interactions in predicting scores of psychopathy subscales., Results: Childhood trauma had small positive associations with psychopathic traits across the board, with the exception of a small negative association with boldness traits, as well as a small negative association with resilience. Resilience was strongly and positively related to boldness, and negatively related to affective (callousness, meanness) and behavioral (antisocial, disinhibition) traits of psychopathy. Resilience moderated six out of seven associations between childhood trauma and psychopathic traits., Conclusions: Resilience appeared to represent a significant buffer in the associations between childhood traumatic experiences and psychopathic traits, such that these associations became weaker and nonsignificant (and even negative for boldness) at higher levels compared to lower levels of resilience.
