This book follows the format of K.J. Lee's highly successful and popular Essential Otolaryngology - a book series which has been an extremely important reference for residents preparing for in-service and board examinations throughout their career, and now in its 12th Edition. Essential Rhinology and Allergy is a new addition to the collection, focusing on the rapidly expanding and changing knowledge base within these two subspecialties. This book is expertly edited by Yvonne Chan, one of the editors of the current edition of Essential Otolaryngology, along with PJ Wormald, one of the other internationally renowned leaders within the field of rhinology. This book is a reference guide in bullet point format incorporating the critical information in each area. The editors have organized the book into six sections according to the most relevant areas in the specialties, which are Embryology; Anatomy and Physiology; Evaluation and Diagnosis; Allergy; Sinonasal Diseases; Surgical Management of Sinonasal Disease; and Surgical Management of Skull Base Disorders.

Saïd Amir Arjomand's Kings and Dervishes is a pioneering study of the emergence and development of Sufism during the formation of the Persianate world. Whereas Sufi doctrine was expressed in the New Persian language, its social organization was detached from the civic movement among the urban craftsmen and artisans known as the fotovva(t) and was politically shaped by multiple forces—first by the revival of Persian kingship, and then by the emergence of the Turko-Mongolian empires. The intermingling of Sufism's developmental path with the transformation of the Persianate political regimes resulted in the progressive appropriation of royal symbols by the Sufi shaykhs. The original Sufi world renunciation gave way first to world accommodation and the medieval love mysticism of Jalāl al-Din Rumi and Hāfez of Shiraz, and then to world domination. This comprehensive work of historical sociology traces these spiritual and political evolutions over the course of some six centuries, showing how the Sufi saints'symbolic sovereignty was eventually made real in the imperial kingship of the Persianate world's early modern empires.

Studies on Persianate Societies is an interdisciplinary publication that offers original research on the culture and civilisation of the geographical area where Persian has historically been the dominant language or a major cultural force, encompassing Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan, as well as the Caucasus, Central Asia, the Indian Subcontinent, and parts of the former Ottoman Empire. It also offers regular surveys of relevant books published in Iran, India and Pakistan, Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States. This publication is the predecessor of the Journal of Persianate Studies.

The first interdisciplinary study of the history of contact between Iranians and the peoples and polities of the Indian Ocean.Most of the historiography of the Iranian world focuses on interactions and migrations between Iran, Central Asia and India. Nonetheless, this Iranian world was also closely connected to the maritime one of the Indian Ocean. While scholarship has drawn attention to diverse elements of these latter interactions, ranging from the claims to Shirazi descent of East African communities, to Persian elements in Malay literature, and Iranian communities of merchants in China, such studies have remained largely isolated from one another. The consensus of historiography on the Indian Ocean presents it as an'Arabic cosmopolis', or, in earlier times, a Sanskrit one. The aim of this book is thus to bring together scholars working on disparate aspects of Persianate interactions with the Indian Ocean world from antiquity to modern times to provide a more rounded picture of both the history of the Persianate world, broadly conceived, and that of the Indian Ocean.The book brings together a collection of internationally renowned scholars from a variety of disciplines – including archaeology, history, literature, linguistics, art history – and covers interactions in Iran's political and commercial relations with the Indian Ocean world in history, Persian-speaking communities in the Indian Ocean world, Persian(ate) elements in Indian Ocean languages and literatures, Persian texts dealing with the Indian Ocean, and connections in material culture.
