We have synthesized thiadiazole-isatin hybrid analogues (1–20), characterized through different spectroscopic techniques such as 1HNMR, 13CNMR, HREI-MS, and evaluated against α-glucosidase and α-amylase enzymes. All analogues showed potent inhibitory potentials, having an IC50 values ranged from 22.08 ± 0.09 to 54.03 ± 0.07 μM (against α-amylase) and 19.03 ± 0.04 to 50.03 ± 0.02 μM (α-glucosidase) when compared with the standard drug acarbose (IC50 = 22.07 ± 0.02 μM for α-amylase and IC50 = 18.01 ± 0.06 μM for α-glucosidase respectively). Among the series, analogues 13 (IC50 = 19.03 ± 0.04 and 22.08 ± 0.09 μM), 12 (IC50 = 21.03 ± 0.07 and 24.03 ± 0.07 μM), and 5 (IC50 = 22.02 ± 0.03 and 26.02 ± 0.04 μM) were identified as the most active inhibitors. The structure–activity relationship was carried out, mainly associated with the nature, number, position, and electron-donating and electron-withdrawing effects of the substituent (s) on the phenyl ring. With the help of molecular docking, the binding interaction of the most active analogues within the active site of enzymes was confirmed. Almost twelve compounds were also screened for antibacterial potential, and few were found to be effective against Bacillus subtilis. All compounds were verified for cytotoxicity against the 3 T3 mouse fibroblast cell line and detected non-toxic.

A series of new benzohydrazide based thiourea derivatives were synthesized, characterized through different spectroscopic techniques like 1HNMR, 13CNMR and HREI-MS and screened against Bacillus pasteurii (B.P) and Jack bean (J.B) ureases enzymes. All derivatives showed good inhibitory potential ranging from 20.05 ± 0.03 to 39.34 ± 1.05 (against J.B Urease) and 23.54 ± 0.21 to 58.65 ± 0.41 (against B.P Urease) as compared to the standard thiourea (IC50 = 14.02 ± 0.25 and 18.01 ± 0.13 µM, respectively). It was observed that the two scaffold 1 (IC50 = 23.54 ± 0.21 and 20.05 ± 0.03 µM) and 2 (IC50 = 26.20 ± 0.32 and 21.33 ± 0.17 µM) among the series showed good inhibitory potential. The binding interaction of the most potent analogues with the active site of enzyme were examined through the molecular docking study.

We have synthesized 1,2,4-triazole bearing benzenesulfonohydrazide analogues (1–21), characterized through different spectroscopic techniques such as 1HNMR, 13CNMR, HREI-MS and were evaluated against Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and Butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE) enzymes. All the newly synthesized analogues showed excellent to good inhibition potential with IC50 values ranged from 0.30 ± 0.050 to 15.21 ± 0.50 µM (against AChE) and 0.70 ± 0.050 to 18.27 ± 0.60 µM (against BuChE) as compared to the standard drug Donepezil (IC50 = 2.16 ± 0.12 and 4.5 ± 0.11 µM, respectively). Analogues 2 and 4 which were found inactive against these enzymes. However, analogues 17 (IC50 = 0.30 ± 0.050 and 0.70 ± 0.050 µM) and 13 (IC50 = 0.70 ± 0.05 and 1.70 ± 0.050 µM) were found to have potent inhibitory potentials against the targeted enzymes. Structure-activity relationship was carried out which mainly depends upon the nature, position and numbers of the substitution present on phenyl rings that may be electron withdrawing/donating. Molecular docking study was carried out to know about the binding mode of interaction of the most active site of the synthesized analogues with the targeted enzymes.

SiGe‐SiO2‐based structures present high interest for their high photosensitivity from visible to short‐wavelength infrared. Herein, two postdeposition annealing procedures, that is, rapid thermal annealing (RTA) and rapid‐like furnace annealing (FA), are compared. Both RTA and FA are performed at 600 °C for 1 min for SiGe nanocrystals (NCs) formation in SiO2 matrix in Si/SiO2/SiGe/SiO2 structures deposited by magnetron sputtering. The FA imitates RTA resulting in enhanced spectral response. X‐ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and Raman spectroscopy are carried out showing Ge‐rich SiGe NCs with 11.3 ± 1.2 nm size for RTA and 9.4 ± 0.8 nm for FA. Photocurrent spectra for both structures show several peaks that are annealing dependent. The photocurrent intensity for FA samples is ≈7 times higher than RTA samples while cutoff wavelengths are slightly different, that is, 1365 nm for FA and 1375 nm for RTA. The FA structures show (at −1.5 V) over 4 A W−1 responsivity at 730 nm, 6.4 × 107 Jones detectivity at 735 nm, and 2.2 × 107 Jones at about 1210 nm. FA structures contain small SiGe NCs with incorporated residual strain, while RTA ones are formed of columnar SiGe NCs separated by SiGeOx amorphous regions and show increased tensile strain in the SiGe.

Esophageal cancer is extremely rare in pregnant women, accounting for only 0.07%–0.1% of all malignant neoplasms in pregnancy. It is rapidly progressive in nature and requires timely intervention. Our literature search yielded six case reports of esophageal cancers in pregnancy thus far. We herein report the case of a 30-year-old female, presenting at 32 weeks of gestation with complaints of hoarseness, dysphagia, and weight loss. The biopsy taken from within the esophagus, using an endoscope during an upper endoscopy procedure confirmed the diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma of esophagus and Positron emission tomography-computed tomography revealed metastasis to parathyroid region. She was confirmed with metastatic squamous cell cancer positive for cytokeratin 5/6 and cytokeratin P40 immunohistochemistry. The Positron emission tomography-computed tomography of the chest showed a large hypermetabolic soft tissue mass in the mid-esophagus with significant proximal dilation. The head-and-neck computed tomography scan represented a necrotic nodal mass in the neck and circumferential mural thickening involving the mid-esophagus resulting in the proximal dilation confirming the primary tumor site. Two weeks after the delivery, the patient started a chemotherapy regimen consisting of nine cycles of Carboplatin and Paclitaxel. Postchemotherapeutic computed tomography showed remonstration of lesion in the thyroid gland and middle part of the esophagus. Thus, in pregnant patients with new onset hoarseness, dysphagia, or substantial weight loss, clinicians should keep esophageal cancer as part of their differentials. A thorough history, detailed physical examination, and imaging should be performed to determine esophageal cancer, as it can advance swiftly and has a poor prognosis if left untreated.

Diabetes and ulcer are the major health problems all over the world. The present study reports synthesis and bio-evaluation of 19 benzimidazole analogs in search of antiglycation, antioxidant and antiulcer agents. The synthetic analogs were characterized using 1H NMR, 13C NMR and HR-EIMS. All compounds were checked for their antiglycation, antiurease and antioxidant activities. The fluorophenyl benzimidazole analogs 12–14 strongly inhibited glycation with IC50 values ranging from 142 µM to 193 µM. The same fluorophenyl analogs (12–14) were also found to exhibit the highest antioxidant activity with IC50 values ranging from 1.2 µM to 6.6 µM which further highlights the significance of these bioactive analogs. The dihydroxyphenyl analogs 6–9 demonstrated the most potent enzyme inhibitory activity with IC50 values ranging from 3.10 µM to 5.90 µM. Molecular docking studies were performed on the active analogs to investigate their interactions with the urease enzyme and provide a plausible explanation for their observed urease inhibitory activity.

A rare but lethal central nervous system disease known as granulomatous amoebic encephalitis (GAE) and potentially blinding Acanthamoeba keratitis are diseases caused by free-living Acanthamoeba. Currently, no therapeutic agent can completely eradicate or prevent GAE. Synthetic compounds are a likely source of bioactive compounds for developing new drugs. This study synthesized seventeen 1,4-benzothiazine derivatives (I –XVII) by a base-catalyzed one-pot reaction of 2-amino thiophenol with substituted bromo acetophenones. Different spectroscopic techniques, such as EI-MS, 1H-, and 13C NMR (only for the new compounds), were used for the structural characterization and conformation of compounds. These compounds were assessed for the first time against Acanthamoeba castellanii. All compounds showed anti-amoebic potential in vitro against A. castellanii, reducing its ability to encyst and excyst at 100 μM. Reduced iodine loads for computed tomography (CT)-based vascular assessment prior to transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) may be feasible in conjunction with a spectral detector CT scanner. This prospective single-center study considered 100 consecutive patients clinically referred for pre-TAVI CT. They were examined on a dual-layer detector CT scanner to obtain an ECG-gated cardiac scan and a non-ECG-gated aortoiliofemoral scan. Either a standard contrast media (SCM) protocol using 80 mL Iohexol 350 mgI/mL (iodine load: 28 gI) or a body-mass-index adjusted reduced contrast media (RCM) protocol using 40–70 mL Iohexol 350 mgI/mL (iodine load: 14–24.5 gI) were employed. Conventional images and virtual monoenergetic images at 40–80 keV were reconstructed. A threshold of 250 HU was set for sufficient attenuation along the arterial access pathway. A qualitative assessment used a five-point Likert scale. Sufficient attenuation in the thoracic aorta was observed for all patients in both groups using conventional images. In the abdominal, iliac, and femoral segments, sufficient attenuation was observed for the majority of patients when using virtual monoenergetic images (SCM: 96–100% of patients, RCM: 88–94%) without statistical difference between both groups. Segments with attenuation measurements below the threshold remained qualitatively assessable as well. Likert scores were ‘excellent’ for virtual monoenergetic images 50 keV and 55 keV in both groups (RCM: 1.2–1.4, SCM: 1.2–1.3). With diagnostic image quality maintained, it can be concluded that reduced iodine loads of 14–24.5 gI are feasible for pre-TAVI vascular assessment on a spectral detector CT scanner.

Introduction: Work fatigue is common in air and ground crew since they have prolonged working hours. Work fatigue is excessive tiredness and decreased function during or after work. Fatigue can also affect sleep quality. Despite work fatigue causing disproportionately significant psychosocial dangers, limited studies have developed an intervention program. Thus, this study will develop a Fatigue Intervention Program (FIP) and evaluate its effectiveness in reducing air and ground crew fatigue. Methods: The FIP was developed after literature review and expert's evaluation. This is a quasi-experimental study to evaluate the effectiveness of FIP. One east Malaysia base will be the intervention arm and one west Malaysia base will be the control arm. Each arm will comprise of 61 participants for a total of N=122. Work fatigue (primary outcome) and sleep quality (secondary outcome) will be evaluated using Multidimensional Fatigue Inventory (MFI) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaires respectively. Baseline, post-intervention, post one-month, and post three-month assessments will be done for both arms. Data will be described by percentages, frequencies, and mean. Time and group interaction effects will be examined using General Estimating Equation. Discussion: Five experts gave a Content Validity Index of 0.90 to 1.00 for relevancy, clarity, adequacy, and agreeability in the evaluation of the FIP. Enrolment will take one month and data collection three months. The FIP is expected to reduce the domains of MFI such as reduced motivation, reduced activity, general, physical and mental fatigue. The FIP is also expected improve the PSQI domains; duration of sleep, days dysfunction due to sleepiness, sleep disturbance, efficiency, latency, and quality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Refrigeration has become an integral part of our daily lives and can be regarded as a process whose replacement is nearly impossible. Therefore, the only way of making this process efficient is by reducing the energy consumed by the components of refrigerators. One way of doing this is to reduce the power consumption of compressor by the addition of nanoparticles either in a refrigerant or in a lubricant. This study focusses on producing nanolubricant (Al2O3/Synthetic lubricant) and dispersing the nanolubricant into R-134a compressor. This study investigates that how much power can be reduced when Aluminum oxide (Al2O3) nanoparticles dispersed in SL-32 lubricant (base fluid). A comparison between SL-32 lubricant with and without the addition of Aluminum oxide nanoparticles was done and it showed a reduction of 0.913% in current consumption and 2.74% in power at the same initial temperature of 31°C in both cases. Hence it can be concluded that Alumina nanoparticles can be utilized to reduce the energy utilized by compressors by creating a nanolubricant with SL-32 lubricant.

Purpose: To explore the potential differences in epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) volume and attenuation measurements between photon-counting detector (PCD) and energy-integrating detector (EID)-CT systems., Methods: Fifty patients (mean age 69 ± 8 years, 41 male [82 %]) were prospectively enrolled for a research coronary CT angiography (CCTA) on a PCD-CT within 30 days after clinical EID-based CCTA. EID-CT acquisitions were reconstructed using a Bv40 kernel at 0.6 mm slice thickness. The PCD-CT acquisition was reconstructed at a down-sampled resolution (0.6 mm, Bv40; [PCD-DS]) and at ultra-high resolutions (PCD-UHR) with a 0.2 mm slice thickness and Bv40, Bv48, and Bv64 kernels. EAT segmentation was performed semi-automatically at about 1 cm intervals and interpolated to cover the whole epicardium within a threshold of -190 to -30 HU. A subgroup analysis was performed based on quartile groups created from EID-CT data and PCD-UHR Bv48 data. Differences were measured using repeated-measures ANOVA and the Friedman test. Correlations were tested using Pearson's and Spearman's rho, and agreement using Bland-Altman plots., Results: EAT volumes significantly differed between some reconstructions (e.g., Eid-Ct: 138 ml [IQR 100, 188]; PCD-DS: 147 ml [110, 206]; P<0.001). Overall, correlations between PCD-UHR and EID-CT EAT volumes were excellent, e.g. PCD-UHR Bv48 : r: 0.976 (95 % CI: 0.958, 0.987); P<0.001; with good agreement (mean bias: -9.5 ml; limits of agreement [LoA]: -40.6, 21.6). On the other hand, correlations regarding EAT attenuation was moderate, e.g. PCD-UHR BV48 : r: 0.655 (95 % CI: 0.461, 0.790); P<0.001; mean bias: 6.5 HU; LoA: -2.0, 15.0., Conclusion: EAT attenuation and volume measurements demonstrated different absolute values between PCD-UHR, PCD-DS as well as EID-CT reconstructions, but showed similar tendencies on an intra-individual level. Objective: To review available medical literature to elucidate the association between childhood sexual abuse and the development of irritable bowel syndrome later in life., Methods: This systematic review was conducted from January to August 2022 and comprised a literature search on Medline (via PubMed), Scopus, Embase, Web of Science, and Google Scholar databases for relevant studies published between 2001 and 2021. The Newcastle-Ottawa scale was used to determine the quality of the studies. Data on the prevalence of irritable bowel syndrome were meta-analysed using a Mantel-Haenszel random-effects model in RevMan 5.4.1., Results: Of the 7 observational studies analyzed in detail, 5 (71.4%) had a case-control design, and 2 (28.6%) were crosssectional studies. Overall, there were 3156 subjects. The prevalence of irritable bowel syndrome in the childhood sexual abuse group was 51.86% (334/644), while it was 36.74% (923/2512) in the non-childhood sexual abuse group. The pooled odds ratio, indicating the association between childhood sexual abuse and irritable bowel syndrome, was 1.87 (95% confidence interval: 1.56-2.26). The study quality was rated as good in 3 (42.8%) cases, fair in 3 (42.8%), and poor in 1 (14.3%)., Conclusion: Childhood sexual abuse was found to be significantly associated with the development of irritable bowel syndrome later in life, further strengthening the argument that childhood sexual abuse can lead to long-term detriments extending into adulthood. However, there was no existing literature found that stratified other aspects of irritable bowel syndrome, including symptom severity and childhood sexual abuse being the exclusive cause of irritable bowel syndrome.

Background: Ulcerative colitis is a chronic immune-mediated inflammatory bowel disease that involves inflammation and ulcers of the colon and rectum. To date, no definite cure for this disease is available. Objective: The objective of the current study was to assess the effect of Calliandra haematocephala on inflammatory mediators and oxidative stress markers for the exploration of its anti-ulcerative colitis activity in rat models of acetic acid-induced ulcerative colitis. Methods: Methanolic and n-hexane extracts of areal parts of the plant were prepared by cold extraction method. Phytochemical analysis of both extracts was performed by qualitative analysis, quantitative methods, and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Prednisone at 2 mg/kg dose and plant extracts at 250, 500, and 750 mg/kg doses were given to Wistar rats for 11 days, which were given acetic acid on 8th day through the trans-rectal route for the induction of ulcerative colitis. A comparison of treatment groups was done with a normal control group and a colitis control group. To evaluate the anti-ulcerative colitis activity of Calliandra haematocephala , different parameters such as colon macroscopic damage, ulcer index, oxidative stress markers, histopathological examination, and mRNA expression of pro and anti-inflammatory mediators were evaluated. mRNA expression analysis was carried out by reverse transcription quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). Results: The phytochemical evaluation revealed polyphenols, flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids, and sterols in both extracts of the plant. Results of the present study exhibited that both extracts attenuated the large bowel inflammation and prevented colon ulceration at all tested doses. Macroscopic damage and ulcer scoreswere significantly decreased by both extracts. Malondialdehyde (MDA) levels and nitrite/nitrate concentrations in colon tissues were returned to normal levels while superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity was significantly improved by all doses. Histopathological examination exhibited that both extracts prevented the inflammatory changes, cellular infiltration, and colon thickening. Gene expression analysis by RT-qPCR revealed the downregulation of pro-inflammatory markers such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) whereas the anti-inflammatory cytokines including Interleukin-4 (IL-4) and Interleukin-10 (IL-10) were found to be upregulated in treated rats. Conclusion: It was concluded based on study outcomes that methanolic and n-hexane extracts of Calliandra haematocephala exhibited anti-ulcerative colitis activity through modulation of antioxidant defense mechanisms and the immune system. Background:  Photon-counting detector computed tomography (PCD-CT) is a promising new technology with the potential to fundamentally change workflows in the daily routine and provide new quantitative imaging information to improve clinical decision-making and patient management., Method:  The contents of this review are based on an unrestricted literature search of PubMed and Google Scholar using the search terms "photon-counting CT", "photon-counting detector", "spectral CT", "computed tomography" as well as on the authors' own experience., Results:  The fundamental difference with respect to the currently established energy-integrating CT detectors is that PCD-CT allows for the counting of every single photon at the detector level. Based on the identified literature, PCD-CT phantom measurements and initial clinical studies have demonstrated that the new technology allows for improved spatial resolution, reduced image noise, and new possibilities for advanced quantitative image postprocessing., Conclusion:  For clinical practice, the potential benefits include fewer beam hardening artifacts, a radiation dose reduction, and the use of new or combinations of contrast agents.
