Stegosaurs are a minor but iconic clade of ornithischian dinosaurs, yet due to a poor fossil record, their early evolution is poorly understood. Here, we describe a new stegosaur, Baiyinosaurus baojiensis, gen. et sp. nov. from the Middle Jurassic Wangjiashan Formation of the Pingchuan District, Baiyin City, Gansu Province, China. The frontal of Baiyinosaurus possesses a unique characteristic among Stegosauria: it is wider than long and contributes to both the medial and anterior margins of the supratemporal fenestra. The character combinations of dorsal vertebrae of Baiyinosaurus are also different to other stegosaurs: its neural arches are not greatly elongated, its parapophyses are well developed, and its neural spines are axially expanded in lateral. The features of the frontal and vertebrae of Baiyinosaurus are reminiscent of basally branching thyreophorans, indicating that Baiyinosaurus is transitional in morphology between early thyreophorans and early-diverging stegosaurs. Alternating current polarization (ACP) has been demonstrated to enhance the performance of 1-3 piezoelectric single crystal composites (PSCCs), compared to direct current polarization (DCP). However, the scaling effect and temperature stability of PSCCs under different polarization modes, which are of significance to practical applications, have rarely been studied. Here, we compared and analyzed the thickness and temperature-dependent properties of PSCCs under ACP and DCP. The results indicated that ACP PSCCs have improved piezoelectric, electromechanical coupling, and dielectric properties. There were scaling effects for PSCCs with thickness below 400 μm. Compared to high-thickness PSCCs, the piezoelectric coefficient (d33), free dielectric constant ( ε 33 T ε 0 ) as well as thickness electromechanical coupling factor (kt) of low-thickness samples were inferior and the corresponding performance enhancements under ACP were also relatively low. In contrast, the clamped dielectric constant ( ε 33 S ε 0 ) did not show significant thickness correlation. As for temperature stability, all performances of PSCCs improved with increase in temperature and the performance enhancement with temperature change was not dependent on the polarization conditions. Mitochondria perform an array of functions, many of which involve interactions with gene products encoded by the nucleus. These mitochondrial functions, particularly those involving energy production, can be expected to differ between sexes and across ages. Here, we measured mitochondrial effects on sex-and age-specific gene expression in parental and reciprocal F1 hybrids between allopatric populations of Tigriopus californicus with over 20% mitochondrial DNA divergence. Because the species lacks sex chromosomes, sex-biased mitochondrial effects are not confounded by the effects of sex chromosomes. Results revealed pervasive sex differences in mitochondrial effects, including effects on energetics and aging involving nuclear interactions throughout the genome. Using single-individual RNA sequencing, sex differences were found to explain more than 80% of the variance in gene expression. Males had higher expression of mitochondrial genes and mitochondrially targeted proteins (MTPs) involved in oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), while females had elevated expression of non-OXPHOS MTPs, indicating strongly sex-dimorphic energy metabolism at the whole organism level. Comparison of reciprocal F1 hybrids allowed insights into the nature of mito-nuclear interactions, showing both mitochondrial effects on nuclear expression, and nuclear effects on mitochondrial expression. While based on a small set of crosses, sex-specific increases in mitochondrial expression with age were associated with longer life. Network analyses identified nuclear components of strong mito-nuclear interactions and found them to be sexually dimorphic. In this work, piezoelectric ceramics 0.125 Pb(Mg 1/3 Nb 2/3)O 3 -0.445PbZrO 3 -0.43PbTiO 3 + x mol% MnCO 3 (abbreviated as x Mn-PMN-PZT) were fabricated by the solid-state sintering method. The addition of MnCO 3 presented obvious changes in the phase structure, grain size, dielectric and piezoelectric performance. It was found that the doping of 2.5 mol% MnCO 3 can achieved the maximum mechanical quality factor Q m ∼1806 compared to the small Q m ∼96 for pure ceramics. Meanwhile, a moderate piezoelectric coefficient d 33 ∼ 260 pC/N and a high Curie temperature T c ∼325 °C were also achieved in 2.5Mn-PMN-PZT ceramics. The development of piezoelectric ceramics with large piezoelectric coefficient (d 33), high Curie temperature (T c) and high mechanical quality factor (Q m) is still a key challenge for practical application for high-power device. Herein, a series of Sm3+ and Mn2+ ions co-doped 0.15Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O 3 -(0.85-x)PbZrO 3 -xPbTiO 3 ceramics were prepared by the solid-state sintering method. The optimum piezoelectric properties were achieved at x = 0.435 mol% with a large d 33 ∼ 450 pC/N and a high Q m ∼ 1968 near the morphotropic phase boundary (MPB), and with high T c ∼ 296 °C. The origin of this excellent piezoelectric properties was explained by the phase structure, piezoelectric and dielectric analysis. The composition near MPB region and the appearance of defect dipoles leaded to final excellent piezoelectric properties, and made a harmonization between d 33 , T c and Q m. Electromechanical coupling coefficient (k t) of piezoelectric composite is the core indicator for medical ultrasonic, nondestructive testing and underwater acoustic transducers applications. Generally, the k t of piezoelectric composite is susceptible to be interfered by its structure parameter and spurious modes. In this work, we figured out the effect of the polymer on the vibration mode by fixing the size of the piezoelectric rod and changing the content of different softness polymer. The spurious modes were related with resonant standing wave caused by classical Bragg scattering in periodic structures. The propagation of spurious mode vibration can be cut off by soft polymer. The maximum k t of 69% was obtained at a Pb(Zr,Ti)O 3 (PZT4) ceramic volume fraction of 24.5%. The k t was 5% ∼ 10% higher than that of other reported PZT4 ceramic composites and comparable to PZT5 ceramic composites. This work presented a paradigm for vibration modes modulation by changing the polymers ratio, which providing ideas for excellent performance acoustic transducer designing. Along with increase of soft polymer, the frequency of the lateral vibration shifted and was close to the thickness vibration. The potential protective effect of basic fibroblast growth factor (BFGF) on the cardiovascular system has been proposed previously, however, its effect on calcific aortic valve disease (CAVD) and underlying mechanisms have not been elucidated. The valvular interstitial cell (VIC) were isolated from porcine aortic valve leaflets. To investigate the effect of BFGF on osteogenic differentiation of VIC, the osteogenic induced medium (OIM) and BFGF were added. The protein expression level was detected by Western blot, and apoptosis was determined by flow cytometry. The effect of BFGF on CAVD process in vivo was assessed by a rat CAVD model, which was identified by echocardiography and Alizarin red staining. The expression level of BFGF in the aortic valve and serum were significantly upregulated in CAVD patients compared to control group. In addition, exogenous BFGF injection attenuates CAVD process in vivo. The protein markers of osteogenic differentiation, endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS), and apoptosis were significantly upregulated by culture with OIM. On the contrary, the aforementioned proteins were suppressed after adding 100 ng/mL of BFGF. Inhibition of PI3K/Akt and ERK1/2 pathways by specific inhibitors abolished the protective effect of BFGF. In conclusion, BFGF could alleviate the VIC calcification by inhibiting ERS-mediated apoptosis, which is partly regulated by activation of the PI3K/Akt and ERK1/2 signaling pathways. Atrial fibrillation, one of the most common persistent cardiac arrhythmias globally, is known for its rapid and irregular atrial rhythms. This study integrates the temporal convolutional network (TCN) and residual network (ResNet) frameworks to effectively classify atrial fibrillation in single-lead ECGs, thereby enhancing the application of neural networks in this field. Our model demonstrated significant success in detecting atrial fibrillation, with experimental results showing an accuracy rate of 97% and an F1 score of 87%. These figures indicate the model's exceptional performance in identifying both majority and minority classes, reflecting its balanced and accurate classification capability. To characterize and compare clinical and immunological features of para(p)-autoimmune retinopathy (AIR) and non-para(np)-AIR and to assess the clinical significance of the presence of serum anti-retinal antibodies (ARAs). We retrospectively reviewed 48 Chinese patients with p-AIR or np-AIR who took comprehensive ophthalmic examinations and lab tests of the presence of serum ARAs. p-AIR patients differed from np-AIR patients in terms of disease progression, ocular inflammation, findings of OCT, FFA, and presence of ARAs. No significant difference was found in the band number of serum ARAs between AIR patients and healthy controls. The prevalence of antibodies to recoverin and ɑ-enolase in the sera of p-AIR was significantly higher than that of the healthy individuals. While having many similar clinical signs, patients with p-AIR or np-AIR nevertheless displayed unique characteristics. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) may elevate susceptibility to age-related macular degeneration (AMD) because of shared risk factors, pathogenic mechanisms, and genetic polymorphisms. Given the inconclusive findings in prior studies, we investigated this association using extensive datasets in the Asian Eye Epidemiology Consortium. Cross-sectional study. Fifty-one thousand two hundred fifty-three participants from 10 distinct population-based Asian studies. Age-related macular degeneration was defined using the Wisconsin Age-Related Maculopathy Grading System, the International Age-Related Maculopathy Epidemiological Study Group Classification, or the Beckman Clinical Classification. Chronic kidney disease was defined as estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) of less than 60 ml/min per 1.73 m2. A pooled analysis using individual-level participant data was performed to examine the associations between CKD and eGFR with AMD (early and late), adjusting for age, sex, hypertension, diabetes, body mass index, smoking status, total cholesterol, and study groups. Odds ratio (OR) of early and late AMD. Among 51 253 participants (mean age, 54.1 ± 14.5 years), 5079 had CKD (9.9%). The prevalence of early AMD was 9.0%, and that of late AMD was 0.71%. After adjusting for confounders, individuals with CKD were associated with higher odds of late AMD (OR, 1.46; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.11–1.93; P = 0.008). Similarly, poorer kidney function (per 10-unit eGFR decrease) was associated with late AMD (OR, 1.12; 95% CI, 1.05–1.19; P = 0.001). Nevertheless, CKD and eGFR were not associated significantly with early AMD (all P ≥ 0.149). Pooled analysis from 10 distinct Asian population-based studies revealed that CKD and compromised kidney function are associated significantly with late AMD. This finding further underscores the importance of ocular examinations in patients with CKD. The long-term strength retrogression of silica-enriched oil well cement poses a significant threat to wellbore integrity in deep and ultra-deep wells, which is a major obstacle for deep petroleum and geothermal energy development. Previous attempts to address this problem has been unsatisfactory because they can only reduce the strength decline rate. This study presents a new solution to this problem by incorporating fly ash to the traditional silica-cement systems. The influences of fly ash and silica on the strength retrogression behavior of oil well cement systems directly set and cured under the condition of 200 °C and 50 MPa are investigated. Test results indicate that the slurries containing only silica or fly ash experience severe strength retrogression from 2 to 30 d curing, while the slurries containing both fly ash and silica experience strength enhancement from 2 to 90 d. The strength test results are corroborated by further evidences from permeability tests as well as microstructure analysis of set cement. Composition of set cement evaluated by quantitative X-ray diffraction analyses with partial or no known crystal structure (PONKCS) method and thermogravimetry analyses revealed that the conversion of amorphous C-(A)-S-H to crystalline phases is the primary cause of long-term strength retrogression. The addition of fly ash can reduce the initial amount of C-(A)-S-H in the set cement, and its combined use with silica can prevent the crystallization of C-(A)-S-H, which is believed to be the working mechanism of this new admixture in improving long-term strength stability of oil well cement systems. The optical absorption device plays a crucial role as a component of the infrared astronomical telescope and possesses a significant impact on astronomical observations. A simple metamaterial absorber with substitutable middle materials is made for short-wave infrared sensing. The absorber is designed as a hollow square column, using a patterning approach for the top-layer structure of metamaterials. The absorption characteristics are verified using the impedance matching method, which involves extracting S-parameters and then performing inverse calculations to determine the absorber's equivalent impedance. The result shows the highest absorption peak is at 3.25 µm, reaching 99.71%, with an impressive average absorption rate of 99.01% between 1.52 and 3.66 µm. The results demonstrate that this absorber shows polarization insensitivity while maintaining high absorption even at large angles of incidence. The distribution of the electromagnetic field within the absorber, the electromagnetic losses within individual layers, and their impact on the absorptive performance are analyzed in detail. Polarization angles, transverse magnetic polarization, and transverse electric polarization are further explored. The parameters of each layer have been discussed. An investigation of the intermediate dielectric layer has been conducted. The proposed absorber shows the potential to achieve exceptional absorption performance under various dielectric conditions, rendering it a promising candidate for use in astronomical observation, medical tests, infrared detection, invisible short-wave infrared systems, radar and various optical devices. In this study, the performance of water-based fracturing fluids and supercritical CO2 in three types of representative reservoirs (sandstone, conglomerate, and shale) was investigated. The results showed that there are differences in fracture initiation pressures in different rocks, but the fracture initiation pressure of supercritical CO2 is lower than that of water regardless of the rock type. In sandstone reservoirs, supercritical CO2 induced more complex fractures than water, resulting in branching fractures. In conglomerate reservoirs, hydraulic fractures pass through the conglomerate and are flatter, whereas supercritical CO2 fractures pass through or around the conglomerate, and thus the fractures are more tortuous. Gravel stopped the fracture extension in both conditions. In shale reservoirs, supercritical CO2 can communicate natural fractures more effectively than water, thereby increasing the effective transformation volume. Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the most common type of oral cancer, and metastasis and immunosuppression are responsible for the poor prognosis of OSCC. Previous studies have shown that poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP)1 plays a key role in the pathogenesis of OSCC. Therefore, PARP1 may serve as an important research target for the potential treatment of OSCC. Here, we aimed to investigate the role of PARP1 in the tumorigenesis of OSCC and elucidate the key molecular mechanisms of its upstream and downstream regulation in vivo and in vitro. In human OSCC tissues and cells, Toll-like receptor (TLR)9 and PD-L1 were highly expressed and PARP1 was lowly expressed. Suppression of TLR9 remarkably repressed CAL27 and SCC9 cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. After coculture, we found that low expression of TLR9 inhibited PD-L1 expression and immune escape. In addition, TLR9 regulated PD-L1 expression through the PARP1/STAT3 pathway. PARP1 mediated the effects of TLR9 on OSCC cell proliferation, migration, and invasion and immune escape. Additionally, in vivo experiments further verified that TLR9 promoted tumor growth and immune escape by inhibiting PARP1. Collectively, TLR9 activation induced immunosuppression and tumorigenesis via PARP1/PD-L1 signaling pathway in OSCC, providing important insights for subsequent in-depth exploration of the mechanism of OSCC. Nitrogen (N) fertilizer application is essential for crop-plant growth and development. Identifying genetic loci associated with N-use efficiency (NUE) could increase wheat yields and reduce environmental pollution caused by overfertilization. We subjected a panel of 389 wheat accessions to N and chlorate (a nitrate analog) treatments to identify quantitative trait loci (QTL) controlling NUE-associated traits at the wheat seedling stage. Genotyping the panel with a 660K single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) array, we identified 397 SNPs associated with N-sensitivity index and chlorate inhibition rate. These SNPs were merged into 49 QTL, of which eight were multi-environment stable QTL and 27 were located near previously reported QTL. A set of 135 candidate genes near the 49 QTL included TaBOX (F-box family protein) and TaERF (ethylene-responsive transcription factor). A Tabox mutant was more sensitive to low-N stress than the wild-type plant. We developed two functional markers for Hap 1, the favorable allele of TaBOX. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ProBDNF is the precursor protein of brain‐derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) expressed in the central nervous system and peripheral tissues. Previous studies showed that the blood levels of both proBDNF and p75 neurotrophic receptors (p75NTR) in major depressive disorder (MDD) were increased, but which blood cell types express proBDNF and its receptors is not known. Furthermore, the relationship between proBDNF/p75NTR and inflammatory cytokines in peripheral blood of MDD is unclear. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and serum were obtained from depressive patients (n = 32) and normal donors (n = 20). We examined the expression of proBDNF and inflammatory markers and their correlative relationship in patients with major depression. Using flow cytometry analysis, we examined which blood cells express proBDNF and its receptors. Finally, the role of proBDNF/p75NTR signal in inflammatory immune activity of PBMCs was verified in vitro experiments. Inflammatory cytokines in PBMC from MDD patients were increased and correlated with the major depression scores. The levels of IL‐1β and IL‐10 were also positively correlated with the major depression scores, while the levels of TNF‐α and IL‐6 were negatively correlated with the major depression scores. Intriguingly, the levels of sortilin were positively correlated with IL‐1β. Q‐PCR and Western blots showed proBDNF, p75NTR, and sortilin levels were significantly increased in PBMCs from MDD patients compared with that from the normal donors. Flow cytometry studies showed that proBDNF and p75NTR were present mainly in CD4+ and CD8+ T cells. The number of proBDNF and p75NTR positive CD4+ and CD8+ T cells from MDD patients was increased and subsequently reversed after therapeutic management. Exogenous proBDNF protein or p75ECD‐Fc treatment of cultured PBMC affected the release of inflammatory cytokines in vitro. ProBDNF promoted the expression of inflammatory cytokines, while p75ECD‐Fc inhibited the expression of inflammatory cytokines. Given there was an inflammatory response of lymphocytes to proBDNF, it is suggested that proBDNF/p75NTR signaling may upstream inflammatory cytokines in MDD. Salinity stress is serious threat to crop productivity and globe food security. This study investigated the impact of NaCl (neutral salt) and basic salt (basic salt) on seed germination physiological and biochemical traits of Amorpha fruticosa. Salt stress had no significant effect on seed germination rate, however, alkali stress significantly decreased (p=0.05) rate of germination. Both stresses also negatively affected the growth of radicle and germination (P <0.05), and the effect of alkali stress was greater than that of salt stress. The concentration of K+, Mg2+ and Na+/K+ in radicle and germ remained relatively stable, which was conducive to adapting to salt and alkali stress, but the concentration of K+, Mg2+, NO3 -, H2PO4 - and SO4 2- changed differently under salt and alkali stress. Tartaric acid was the main component of the 8 organic acids, and the accumulation changes of each component were different under salt stress and base stress. Tartaric acid was accumulated in large quantities under salt stress, and the accumulation of other acids (citric, malic, acetic, oxalic, formic and lactic acids) were markedly enhanced under alkali stress (P <0.05). Among the 16 free amino acids, arginine, alanine and threonine are the response solutes under salt stress, and glutamic acid and threonine are the response solutes under base stress. In In conclusion, proper concentration of salts can promote seed germination and radicle growth. Therefore, plant performance can be improved by soaking seeds in appropriate concentration of salts. This study aimed to predict the 5-year overall survival (OS) benefit of pola-R-CHP versus R-CHOP in the POLARIX trial based on the 2-year event-free survival (EFS) and progression-free survival (PFS) rates in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). We identified randomized controlled trials (RCT) published before 31 May 2023. The correlation between the logarithmic (log) hazard ratio (HR) for EFS (HREFS) or PFS (HRPFS) and the HR for OS (HROS) was estimated at the triallevel. Correlation analysis was performed between 2-year PFS or EFS and 5-year OS rates at the treatment arm-level. Linear regression models were used to calculate the 5-year OS of pola-R-CHP and R-CHOP. In the included 20 RCTs, a linear correlation between HREFS (r=0.765) or HRPFS (r=0.534) and HROS was observed at the trial- level. Two-year EFS (r=0.918) or 2-year PFS (r=0.865) correlated linearly with 5-year OS. Linear regression analysis between 2-year EFS/PFS and 5-year OS gave estimated 5-year OS rates between pola-R-CHP and R-CHOP of 6.4% and 6.3%, respectively. Two-year EFS and PFS are feasible early endpoints in patients with DLBCL treated primarily with immunochemotherapy. The polaR-CHP regimen is expected to improve 5-year OS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
