Abstract Organisms respond to infectious agents through diverse immune strategies, and may need to cater a specific response to distinct pathogen challenges, such as various strains of a virus, to maximize fitness. Deformed wing virus (DWV) is one of the most damaging viruses of honey bees (Apis mellifera) across the globe, with variant DWV-B currently expanding at the expense of variant DWV-A. While previous research has characterized general host transcriptomic responses to viral exposure, host responses to different DWV strains have not been fully explored. Here, we performed experimental infections with the two dominant strains of DWV, A and B, as well as a mixed infection, and conducted transcriptomic analyses to compare differences in host molecular response to infection. We confirmed canonical anti-viral response to DWV infection, including upregulation of Toll pathway genes and the antimicrobial peptides abaecin and hymenoptaecin. Furthermore, our results suggest a potential role of aerobic glycolysis during viral infection in honey bees. DWV-A and mixed infections were associated with differential expression of a much larger number of host genes than infection with DWV-B. That DWV-B potentially elicits a reduced host immune response may provide a mechanistic explanation for its higher virulence and global emergence. Overall, this study provides the first evidence for strain-specific immune responses to DWV infection, and integrates these findings into the broader domain of insect immunity and host-pathogen dynamics.

The Loch Ness Monster reports database illustrates the importance of considering independence, inaccuracy and imprecision when considering data and how statisticians might handle anecdotes as data. Whilst the data is inappropriate for directly making inferences about Loch Ness Monsters, it may be appropriate for making inferences about the population of Loch Ness Monster reports.

Abstract We performed a retrospective cohort analysis comparing trends in low global warming potential (GWP) inhaler prescribing in primary care in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland between 2018 and 2024 using national prescribing data. There was little change in England, a reduction from 36.6–31.0% in Scotland, a reduction from 36.7–33.2% in Northern Ireland, and an increase from 30.8–41.1% in Wales. Only in Wales was there a simultaneous reduction in high GWP inhalers and an increase in low GWP inhalers. Over the time period of the study there has been a saving of 20,303 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent in Wales.

African animal trypanosomosis (AAT) in cattle is primarily managed through trypanocide administration and insecticide application. Trypanocides can be used for both treatment and prophylaxis, but failure is often reported; this may occur due to resistance, substandard drugs, or inappropriate administration. This study in Tanzania aims to quantify reasons for trypanocide failure. An observational year-long longitudinal study was conducted in high-risk AAT areas in Serengeti District between June 2021-October 2022. Purposive sampling targeted herds with high utilization of the prophylactic trypanocide isometamidium chloride (ISM). When a farmer administered a trypanocide (ISM, diminazine aceturate, homidium), the project veterinarian assessed administration and treatment outcomes were determined based on PCR results from blood samples. A multivariable mixed model was utilized to evaluate risk factors for prophylaxis failure. Quality analysis was performed on trypanocide samples using High Performance Liquid Chromatography. A total of 630 cattle from 21 farms were monitored for a year-long period. A total of 295 trypanocide administrations were reported, predominantly being ISM (56%) used for prophylaxis (87%). One-third of trypanocide administrations were not given adequately, and many trypanocides were given to animals that tested negative for trypanosome infections by PCR. Failures occurred in 7% (95% CI 3.0-14%) of curative treatments, and 44% (95% CI 35-42%) of prophylactic administrations. The brand of ISM was significantly associated with odds of prophylaxis failure (p = 0.011). On quality analysis, two ISM samples had no detectable ISM isomers, but the remainder of ISM and DA samples (n = 46) fell within the range of acceptable levels. Drug counterfeiting, inadequate use of trypanocides, and resistance are all contributing to trypanocide failure, limiting effective AAT control and with implications for human disease risk. In order to curb trypanocide failure a multi-modal approach to managing the use of trypanocides is required to address all contributing factors.

Treatment and research centered on trauma-related mental health issues have largely focused on posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD); however, moral injury is another important mental health concern requiring attention. There is a paucity of research examining how PTSD and moral injury affect emotion regulation. The current investigation examined how PTSD clusters and moral injury subtypes were uniquely associated with difficulties with emotion regulation. Participants consisted of 253 previously deployed military personnel who were recruited online. To be included in the study, participants had to verify that they had served in the U.S. Military, had been deployed as part of their military service, and endorsed elevated levels of symptoms associated with PTSD and/or moral injury. A hierarchical linear regression was conducted to examine the association between PTSD symptom clusters, moral injury subtypes, and difficulties with emotion regulation. Results indicated that alterations in arousal and reactivity was the only PTSD symptom cluster associated with difficulties with emotion regulation. Self-transgressions was the only facet of moral injury significantly associated with difficulties with emotion regulation. We present an extensive optical photometric and spectroscopic investigation into the calcium-rich supernova (SN) – SN 2023xwi. Observations from a variety of ground-based telescopes follow the SN from 8 d pre-peak brightness to 87 d post-peak, covering both early-time (photospheric) and late-time (nebular) phases of the SN. Objects of this class are characterized by nebular spectra that are dominated by [Ca  ii ] |$\lambda \lambda$| 7291, 7324 emission. SN 2023xwi displays a unique peculiarity in that its forbidden [Ca  ii ] feature is visible in its peak photospheric spectrum – far earlier than expected in current models. This is one of the strongest and earliest detections of this feature in Ca-rich SNe in photospheric-phase spectra. We investigate the velocity evolution of this spectral feature and show that it cannot be easily explained by conventional progenitor systems. Background: People living in regional Queensland, Australia, have less access to health care than their metropolitan neighbours; a gap that is wider if they are also of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ethnicity. The Bariatric Surgery Initiative (BSI) aims to provide metabolic bariatric surgery as a public service accessible to all Queenslanders for patients with morbid obesity according to need, regardless of location or ethnicity. Methods: We investigated the BSI's progress in closing the metro-regional gap by comparing the distribution of referrals for surgery with the geographic and ethnic spread of obesity across Queensland in 2017–2019. Results: Regional Queensland is home to 59.8% of Queensland's individuals with obesity, whereas 40.2% live in metropolitan Brisbane. In contrast, 47.8% of referrals were from regional areas, with 52.2% received from Brisbane. We found that more patients from metropolitan than regional areas underwent metabolic bariatric surgery, probably due to a paucity of referrals from regional locations. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples were able to access the service and all patients realised significant health benefits after surgery. Conclusions: The BSI improved access to this service, and inequities in metro-regional access may depend on patient choice and healthcare provider awareness of the BSI. Trial registration: This initiative was a quality improvement study focused on providing access to care rather than a clinical trial; as such it was not registered as a clinical trial. What is known about the topic? Bariatric surgery is an effective intervention to treat severe obesity. Access to this service in Queensland public hospitals was limited. Access was gained only in exceptional cases; this created unmet need and inequities. What does this paper add? This paper demonstrates that a state-wide central referral hub is an effective approach to provide equitable access to bariatric surgery according to ability to benefit regardless of location or ethnicity. Background: For the vast majority of displaced femoral neck fractures in older patients, cemented femoral fixation is indicated because it is associated with a lower risk of periprosthetic fracture than cementless fixation. Nevertheless, cementless fixation continues to be utilized with high frequency for hip fractures in the United States. It is therefore helpful to understand the performance of individual cementless brands and models. Although prior studies have compared femoral stems by design type or stem geometry, there may still be a difference in revision risk according to femoral stem brand given the potential differences within design groupings with regard to manufacturing, implantation systems, and implant design nuances among vendors. Questions/purposes: (1) Is there a difference in aseptic revision risk among femoral stem brands in patients ≥ 60 years of age who have displaced femoral neck fractures treated with cementless hemiarthroplasty? (2) Is there a difference in revision for periprosthetic fracture among femoral stem brands in patients ≥ 60 years of age with displaced femoral neck fractures treated with cementless hemiarthroplasty? Methods: A retrospective, comparative, large-database cohort study was conducted using data from Kaiser Permanente's Hip Fracture Registry. This integrated healthcare system covers more than 12 million members throughout eight regions in the United States; membership has been found to be representative of the general population in the areas served. The Hip Fracture Registry collects details on all patients who undergo hip fracture repair within the organization. These patients are then longitudinally monitored for outcomes after their repair, and all identified outcomes are manually validated through chart review. Patients ages ≥ 60 years who underwent unilateral hemiarthroplasty treatment of a displaced femoral neck fracture from 2009 to 2021 were identified (n = 22,248). Hemiarthroplasties for polytrauma, pathologic or open fractures, or patients who had additional surgeries at other body sites during the same stay, as well as those with prior procedures in the same hip, were excluded (21.4% [4768]). Cemented procedures and those with missing or inconsistent implant information (for example, cement used but cementless implant recorded) were further excluded (47.1% [10,485]). To allow for enough events for evaluation, the study sample was restricted to seven stems for which there were at least 300 hemiarthroplasties performed, including four models from DePuy Synthes (Corail®, Summit®, Summit Basic, and Tri-Lock®) and three from Zimmer Biomet (Medial-Lateral [M/L] Taper®, Trabecular Metal®, and Versys® Low Demand Fracture [LD/FX]). The final sample included 5676 cementless hemiarthroplasties: 653 Corail, 402 M/L Taper, 1699 Summit, 1590 Summit Basic, 384 Tri-Lock, 637 Trabecular Metal, and 311 Versys LD/FX. Procedures were performed by 396 surgeons at 35 hospitals. The mean age and BMI for the cohort was 81 years and 24 kg/m2, respectively; most were women (66% [3733 of 5676]) and White (79% [4488 of 5676]). Based on standardized mean differences, we controlled for age, race/ethnicity, American Society of Anesthesiologist (ASA) classification, anesthesia technique, operative year, average annual surgeon hemiarthroplasty volume, and operative year across the seven stem groups. Of the 5676 patients, 7% (378 of 5676) were lost to follow-up through membership termination at a median time of 1.6 years, and 56% (3194 of 5676) of the patients died during study follow-up. A multivariable cause-specific Cox proportional hazards regression model was used to evaluate the risk for aseptic revision with adjustment for age, gender, ASA classification, depression, operating surgeon, deficiency anemias, time from admission to surgery, and average annual surgeon hemiarthroplasty volume. A random intercept was included to address effects from hemiarthroplasties performed by the same surgeon. Risk for revision for periprosthetic fracture was also evaluated as a secondary outcome. Results: In the adjusted analysis, the Summit Basic (HR 1.91 [95% confidence interval 1.34 to 2.72]; p < 0.001), the M/L Taper (HR 1.91 [95% CI 1.15 to 3.15]; p = 0.01), and the Versys LD/FX (HR 2.12 [95% CI 1.25 to 3.61]; p = 0.005) had higher aseptic revision risks during follow-up when compared with the Summit. No differences were observed for the Corail (HR 0.57 [95% CI 0.29 to 1.10]; p = 0.09), the Tri-Lock (HR 1.13 [95% CI 0.62 to 2.07]; p = 0.68), or the Trabecular Metal (HR 1.14 [95% CI 0.69 to 1.89]; p = 0.61) compared with the Summit. A higher risk for revision because of periprosthetic fracture was observed with the M/L Taper (HR 2.43 [95% CI 1.29 to 4.58]; p = 0.006) and the Summit Basic (within 3 months of follow-up: HR 1.16 [95% CI 0.60 to 2.25]; p = 0.66; after 3 months of follow-up: HR 2.84 [95% CI 1.36 to 5.94]; p = 0.006) stems when compared with the Summit. Conclusion: In a cohort of 5676 cementless hemiarthroplasties, we found differences in revision risks among different femoral stem brands. Based on our findings, we recommend against utilization of the Zimmer M/L Taper, DePuy Summit Basic, and Zimmer Versys LD/FX in the treatment of displaced geriatric femoral neck fractures with cementless hemiarthroplasty. Future large registry studies are needed to further elucidate differences in aseptic revision risk among higher performing cementless femoral stems. Although cemented fixation remains the recommended approach based on the best available evidence in hemiarthroplasty treatment of hip fractures, our findings may help to mitigate aseptic revision risk should cementless fixation be chosen. We have previously shown that the hepatitis C virus (HCV) E1E2 envelope glycoprotein can regulate HIV-1 long-terminal repeat (LTR) activity through disruption to NF-κB activation. This response is associated with upregulation of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress response pathway. Here, we demonstrate that the SARS-CoV-2 S, M, and E but not the N structural protein can perform similar downmodulation of HIV-1 LTR activation, and in a dose-dependent manner, in both HEK293 and lung BEAS-2B cell lines. This effect is highest with the SARS-CoV-2 Wuhan S strain and decreases over time for the subsequent emerging variants of concern (VOC), with Omicron providing the weakest effect. We developed pseudo-typed viral particle (PVP) viral tools that allowed for the generation of cell lines constitutively expressing the four SARS-CoV-2 structural proteins and utilising the VSV-g envelope protein to deliver the integrated gene construct. Differential gene expression analysis (DGEA) was performed on cells expressing S, E, M, or N to determine cell activation status. Gene expression differences were found in a number of interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs), including IF16, IFIT1, IFIT2, and ISG15, as well as for a number of heat shock protein (HSP) genes, including HSPH1, HSPA6, and HSPBP1, with all four SARS-CoV-2 structural proteins. There were also differences observed in expression patterns of transcription factors, with both SP1 and MAVS upregulated in the presence of S, M, and E but not the N protein. Collectively, the results indicate that gene expression patterns associated with ER stress pathways can be activated by SARS-CoV-2 envelope glycoprotein expression. The results suggest the SARS-CoV-2 infection can modulate an array of cell pathways, resulting in disruption to NF-κB signalling, hence providing alterations to multiple physiological responses of SARS-CoV-2-infected cells. However, these interventions often fail to control AAT due to reasons such as drug resistance, poor-quality medicines, or incorrect administration. This study, conducted in Tanzania between December 2019 and October 2022, aimed to understand why trypanocides fail. Researchers focused particularly on cattle herds that used a preventive drug called isometamidium chloride (ISM). During the study, a veterinarian monitored how farmers administered trypanocides like ISM, diminazine aceturate (DA), or homidium, ensuring proper dosage and storage. Blood samples from cattle were tested to check if treatments were effective. The study found that one-third of trypanocide treatments were not given correctly, and many cattle treated with trypanocides were not actually infected. It was determined that 7% of treatments and 44% of preventive doses failed. The type of ISM brand used played a significant role in failure rates, with some brands performing worse than others. Background: Although the majority of intertrochanteric femoral fractures in the United States are now treated with cephalomedullary nailing, it remains uncertain whether differences in clinical performance by nail type exist. The purpose of this study was to compare the aseptic revision rates associated with the 3 most commonly utilized cephalomedullary nails in the United States today: the Gamma nail (Stryker), the INTERTAN (Smith+Nephew), and the Trochanteric Fixation Nail/Trochanteric Fixation Nail Advanced (TFN/TFNA; DePuy Synthes). Methods: Using an integrated health-care system's hip fracture registry, patients ≥60 years of age who were treated with 1 of these 3 commonly used cephalomedullary nail devices were identified. Potential confounders were identified and controlled for, including age, gender, race or ethnicity, body mass index, smoking status, American Society of Anesthesiologists classification, anesthesia type, Elixhauser comorbidities, and the operating surgeon. Multivariable Cox proportional-hazards regression was used to evaluate the risk of aseptic revision (the primary outcome measure) by cephalomedullary nail type, with mortality and revisions unrelated to the index fracture considered as competing events. Results: There were 19,215 patients included in the study sample (71.4% female, 77.0% White), including 4,421 in the Gamma nail group, 2,350 in the INTERTAN nail group, and 12,444 in the TFN/TFNA nail group. In the multivariable analysis involving nails of all lengths, the INTERTAN group was found to have a higher risk of aseptic revision compared with the TFN/TFNA group (8-year crude revision rate, 2.9% compared with 1.8%; hazard ratio [HR], 1.62 [95% confidence interval (CI), 1.15 to 2.27]; p = 0.006). The increased risk associated with the INTERTAN nail was primarily seen among the long nails (HR, 1.83 [95% CI, 1.16 to 2.87]; p = 0.009) rather than the short nails (HR, 1.36 [95% CI, 0.87 to 2.11]; p = 0.18). There were no differences in aseptic revision observed between the Gamma group and the TFN/TFNA group. Conclusions: In this study of 19,215 patients with a hip fracture treated with cephalomedullary nailing, the INTERTAN nail was found to have a significantly higher risk of aseptic revision. Ecosystem restoration has historically been viewed as an ecological endeavor, but restoration possesses significant, yet largely untapped, potential as a catalyst for personal and social transformation. We highlight the opportunity for restoration to enhance community resilience by increasing agency and collective action and countering the pervasive perception that we are powerless witnesses to environmental decline. In this perspective, we take a "bright spots" approach and highlight successful examples of ecosystem restoration that have helped to nurture a sense of place, foster optimism, and cultivate stronger and more diverse social networks. These three individual-and community-level capacities have the potential to lead to increased psychosocial resilience, which is a key component of community resilience. Our aim is to spark discussion and research to better understand how we can transform restoration from a largely technical endeavor to a practice and process through which human-nature relationships are infused with deliberate meaning and human well-being is improved. With current calls to upscale and technologize restoration to meet sustainable development goals, we cannot lose sight of the value of community-engaged ecosystem restoration as a strategy with great potential for psychosocial benefits. Introduction Posttraumatic nightmares (PTNs) are common among service members with a history of combat or mission-related trauma and are associated with decreased well-being. Unfortunately, beyond establishing an association between mental health symptoms and PTNs, the existing literature fails to provide a more comprehensive understanding of factors associated with PTNs. The effectiveness of current recommended treatments is frequently debated, with the literature varying in levels of support. Treatment of PTN is complicated, given their association with a number of mental health difficulties including posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, and depression. The present study sought to better delineate the association of these difficulties with PTNs, in an effort to inform and improve treatments for the nation's service members. Materials and Methods This study utilized de-identified data collected during standard procedures for an interdisciplinary intensive outpatient program for service members with a history of traumatic brain injury and/or psychological health conditions (N  = 1,550). Study analyses were performed under a Walter Reed National Military Medical Center institutional review board-approved protocol. Three cross-sectional forward likelihood ratio logistic regressions predicting the presence of PTNs were conducted while controlling for the alpha-blocker prazosin, as it is recommended for the treatment of PTSD-associated nightmares. Separate models were created for posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS), depression, and anxiety because of multicollinearity concerns. Additional variables considered for inclusion were psychological symptoms (e.g. suicide ideation, postconcussive symptoms), satisfaction with life, sleep (e.g. pain that disrupts sleep, early awakenings, sleepiness), demographics (e.g. sex, race/ethnicity, marital status, age), and military characteristics (e.g. rank, branch, special operator status, time in service). Results PTSS (odds ratio [OR]: 1.13), anxiety (OR: 1.19), and depression (OR: 1.19) were associated with increased odds of PTNs when controlling for prazosin. Each of the final models accounted for a significant amount of variance in the presence/absence of PTN. The included variables differed across models. The PTSS model included pain that disrupted sleep, postconcussive symptoms, special operator status, and early awakenings. The anxiety model included postconcussive symptoms, pain that disrupted sleep, special operator status, and prazosin use. The depression model included postconcussive symptoms, pain that disrupted sleep, special operator status, difficulty falling asleep within 30 min, and prazosin use. Although most variables were associated with an increased odds of PTNs, postconcussive symptoms in the PTSS model and special operator status in all 3 models were associated with decreased odds of PTNs. These findings are illustrated in Tables 2 to 4. Conclusions Findings support the association of PTSS, anxiety, and depression to PTNs, and, importantly, suggest that other factors may be equally or more important in understanding PTNs. Notably, increased odds of PTNs were observed among patients with pain that disrupts their sleep. The cross-sectional nature of the study allows examination of these co-occurring symptoms as they would present in the clinic, potentially informing assessment and treatment strategies; however, it precludes consideration of temporal relationships. Results highlight the importance of considering comorbid symptoms and relevant military characteristics to gain a more complete understanding of PTNs. Introduction: Incidence rates for cancer among adolescent and young adults (AYA) have increased 30% since 1970. Declines in mortality underscore the importance of discussing fertility preservation (FP) options prior to receiving gonadotoxic treatments. National guidelines outline FP options including oocyte (OC), embryo (EC), and ovarian tissue cryopreservation (OTC) for female AYA patients. Significant progress has led to changes in FP practices, initially limited to EC. Subsequently, OC was deemed non-experimental in 2013, followed by OTC in 2020. Despite these advancements and guideline recommendations, the availability and utilization of FP services vary. Areas Covered: Rapid review methodologies were employed to classify trends in female AYAs utilization of FP cryopreservation options following guideline updates. FP options reviewed include OC, EC, and OTC. Additionally, the review examined if aspects of the decision-making process relevant to FP were present. Expert Opinion: Ten articles met inclusion criteria. Results suggest that the declassification of OTC has not necessarily increased its use and OC and EC appear to be most frequently used. The factors associated with decision making appear to have remained consistent with financial constraints having the most impact, followed by partner status and concerns about recurrence. One of the principal limitations on livestock productivity in sub-Saharan Africa is the constraining effect of infectious diseases, including tick-borne blood pathogens. Currently, diagnostic markers for these pathogens are species or genus specific, making it challenging to implement high-throughput screening methods. The aim of this study was to develop and validate a novel high-throughput diagnostic tool capable of detecting a range of important haemopathogens in livestock. To achieve this, we developed a high-throughput diagnostic tool that can detect all species of Anaplasma , Ehrlichia, Theileria and Babesia present in a sample. The approach involves targeting the 16S/18S rDNA region by PCR and subjecting amplicons to deep sequencing, which allows for the identification of species present in a sample, and the exploration of haemopathogen communities. To validate the accuracy of this Next Generation Sequencing method, we compared the amplicon sequencing results with species-specific PCR and reverse line blot (RLB) test data of both control and field samples. The Haemabiome tool demonstrated the successful resolution of positive and negative samples, and highlighted the power of this diagnostic tool in identifying multiplicity of infections. The Haemabiome tool can therefore generate valuable insights regarding the understanding of the true diversity of species composition and the distribution of pathogen communities in field samples. Background and Objectives: History of nonfatal overdose (NFO) is common among people who use opioids, but little is known about opioid agonist treatment (OAT) outcomes for this high‐risk subpopulation. The objective of this study was to investigate the relative effectiveness of buprenorphine/naloxone and methadone on retention and suppression of opioid use among individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD) and history of NFO. Methods: Secondary analysis of a pan‐Canadian pragmatic trial comparing flexible take‐home buprenorphine/naloxone and supervised methadone for people with OUD and history of NFO. Logistic regression was used to examine the impact of OAT on retention in the assigned or in any OAT at 24 weeks and analysis of covariance was used to examine the mean difference in opioid use between treatment arms. Results: Of the 272 randomized participants, 155 (57%) reported at least one NFO at baseline. Retention rates in the assigned treatment were 17.7% in the buprenorphine/naloxone group and 18.4% in the methadone group (adjusted odds ratio [AOR] = 0.54, 95% CI: 0.17–1.54). Rates of retention in any OAT were 28% and 20% in the buprenorphine/naloxone and methadone arms, respectively (AOR = 1.55, 95% CI: 0.65–3.78). There was an 11.9% adjusted mean difference in opioid‐free urine drug tests, favoring the buprenorphine/naloxone arm (95% CI: 3.5–20.3; p =.0057). Conclusions and Scientific Significance: Among adults with OUD and a history of overdose, overall retention rates were low but improved when retention in any treatment was considered. Summary: Objective: To describe pathways to eating disorder (ED) development that have been evaluated in people with overweight and obesity. Methods: Four databases were searched to identify studies testing ED development models in adolescents (10–19 years) or adults (>19 years) with overweight and obesity. Explanatory variables were thematically grouped into constructs to describe pathways to each ED outcome. Results: Of 2226 studies screened, 46 (10 adolescent; 36 adult) were included. Study samples were predominantly female, ranging from 22 to 2236 participants and mean age 12.3 to 56.0 years. In total, 207 explanatory variables were grouped into 18 constructs to summarize 107 pathways that were identified. The most common ED outcome was binge eating (n = 24 studies), followed by global ED psychopathology (n = 10 studies). Across pathways to ED development, negative affect was the most proposed construct, followed by preoccupation with weight/shape and weight stigma. Conclusion: Pathways to ED development in people with overweight and obesity are complex and may include more than 18 different explanatory factors of which negative affect, preoccupation with weight/shape, and weight stigma are the most common. More research on adolescents, males, and the spectrum of ED in diverse populations is required for early identification and intervention. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We performed a retrospective cohort analysis comparing trends in low global warming potential (GWP) inhaler prescribing in primary care in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland between 2018 and 2024 using national prescribing data. There was little change in England, a reduction from 36.6–31.0% in Scotland, a reduction from 36.7–33.2% in Northern Ireland, and an increase from 30.8–41.1% in Wales. Only in Wales was there a simultaneous reduction in high GWP inhalers and an increase in low GWP inhalers. Over the time period of the study there has been a saving of 20,303 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent in Wales. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
