The current focus of materials science and biomedical science research lies in two-dimensional (2D) MXenes materials, which possess an array of distinctive material attributes. These include superior optical characteristics, a high specific surface area, remarkable hydrophilicity, facile surface functionalization modification and impressive electrochemical properties. These features endow MXenes with vast application potential across multiple domains, particularly in the biomedical realm where advancements in tumor diagnosis and therapy have garnered significant research interest. These advancements primarily center on the enhancement of imaging technology and treatment methodologies. Notably, MXenes exhibit an array of unique physical and chemical properties, including remarkable fluorescence quenching capabilities, superior X-ray attenuation performance and highly efficient photothermal conversion. In the realm of diagnostic technologies, MXenes materials have emerged as a promising candidate for multimodal imaging, encompassing fluorescence imaging, photoacoustic imaging, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). These materials, through their composite design, offer the potential to transcend the limitations of single-mode diagnostic techniques, thereby fostering innovative approaches in tumor imaging. Furthermore, MXenes exhibit exceptional characteristics as combination therapy materials, particularly in targeted drug delivery and optical therapy for tumor treatment. By harnessing the diverse physical and chemical properties of MXenes, personalized treatment strategies can be realized through precise drug delivery, thereby mitigating the toxic side effects associated with systemic chemotherapy. Currently, a pressing challenge in cancer research lies in the rational design and modification of MXenes probes that possess both diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities. This article aimed to provide a comprehensive review of the latest advancements, opportunities and challenges associated with two-dimensional MXenes materials and their derivatives in the context of tumor diagnosis and treatment. Additionally, it delved into the material synthesis, surface modification and tumor imaging research conducted in this field. Furthermore, it examined the obstacles and limitations encountered in the utilization of MXenes in the present context. The research and development of MXenes materials were integral to nanotherapy, and their novel properties, biological effects and oncological application value were thoroughly analyzed, in order to offer more effective and safer therapeutic options for cancer patients.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disorder that commonly affects the skin, kidneys, joints, and various other systemic tissues, with its development intricately linked to the process of immunosenescence. Quercetin (QC), a phytochemical that occurs naturally, demonstrates many different biological capabilities, such as antibacterial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory activities. Our investigation found that QC effectively reduced kidney damage and relieved mesenteric lymph nodes (mLNs) swelling in MRL/lpr lupus mice. Moreover, QC has been found to decrease the number of senescent follicular helper T (Tfh) cells, a pivotal kind of T cells that contribute to the progression of SLE. In vitro, QC exhibited the capacity to modulate mRNA expression levels, with the downregulation of IL-6, IL21-AS1, IL-27, BCL6, and BCL2L12, and the upregulation of FOXP1 and BIM. This modulation resulted in the suppression of Tfh cells differentiation and the enhancement of apoptosis in senescent CD4+ T cells. In addition, the HuProtTM Human Proteome Microarray revealed that QC can directly bind to BCL-2 protein and therefore promote the apoptosis of senescent CD4+ T cell. As a result, our investigative elucidate the potent inhibitory action of QC on the ontogeny of Tfh cells, along with its capacity to abrogate the immunosenescent phenotype. Micro- and nano-bubble jet stirring, as an emerging technology, shows great potential in complex mineral sorting. Flow field characteristics and structural parameters of the gas–liquid two-phase system can lead to uneven bubble distribution inside the reaction vessel. Gas–liquid mixing uniformity is crucial for evaluating stirring effects, as increasing the contact area enhances reaction efficiency. To improve flotation process efficiency and resource recovery, further investigation into flow field characteristics and structural optimization is necessary. The internal flow field of the jet-stirred tank was analyzed using computational fluid dynamics (CFDs) with the Eulerian multiphase flow model and the Renormalization Group (RNG) k − ε turbulence model. Various operating (feeding and aerating volumes) and structural parameters (nozzle direction, height, inner diameter, and radius ratio) were simulated. Dimensionless variance is a statistical metric used to assess gas–liquid mixing uniformity. The results indicated bubbles accumulated in the middle of the vessel, leading to uneven mixing. Lower velocities resulted in low gas volume fractions, while excessively high velocities increased differences between the center and near-wall regions. Optimal mixing uniformity was achieved with a circumferential nozzle direction, 80 mm height, 5.0 mm inner diameter, and 0.55 radius ratio. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The selective flotation separation of gypsum and quartz in phosphogypsum (PG) is an urgent problem that is very important for the high‐value utilization of PG. In the work, dodecyl amine hydrochloride (DH) was introduced as a collector for the selective flotation separation of gypsum and quartz. The flotation property and selective mechanism of DH on the surface of gypsum and quartz were researched by single mineral flotation experiments, Fourier transform attenuated total reflection infrared spectroscopy analyzer, zeta potential analyzer, X‐ray photoelectron spectrum, molecular dynamic (MD) simulation, etc. Additionally, H+ was introduced into the mineral‐water system simulated by MD to take into account the effect of acidic conditions on the adsorption of DH. The pre‐adsorption of H+ on the quartz surface under strongly acidic conditions hindered the electrostatic force adsorption of DH on the quartz surface. Furthermore, DH was adopted as a collector in the direct flotation recovery of gypsum from PG, and the gypsum concentrates with productivity of 69.85%, CaSO4·2H2O content of 96.33%, and whiteness of 55.00% were obtained. The SiO2 content in the gypsum concentrate decreased from 9.08% to 0.616%. Coffee, a widely consumed beverage, has shown benefits for human health but lacks sufficient basic and clinical evidence to fully understand its impacts and mechanisms. Here, we conducted a cross‐sectional observational study of coffee consumption and a 1‐month clinical trial in humans. We found that coffee consumption significantly reshaped the immune system and metabolism, including reduced levels of inflammatory factors and a reduced frequency of senescent T cells. The frequency of senescent T cells and the levels of the senescence‐associated secretory phenotype were lower in both long‐term coffee consumers and new coffee consumers than in coffee nondrinking subjects, suggesting that coffee has anti‐immunosenescence effects. Moreover, coffee consumption downregulated the activities of the The Janus kinase/signal transduction and activator of transcription (JAK/STAT) and mitogen‐activated protein kinases (MAPK) signaling pathways and reduced systemic proinflammatory cytokine levels. Mechanistically, coffee‐associated metabolites, such as 1‐methylxanthine, 3‐methylxanthine, paraxanthine, and ceramide, reduced the frequency of senescent CD4+CD57+ T cells in vitro. Finally, in vivo, coffee intake alleviated inflammation and immunosenescence in imiquimod‐induced psoriasis‐like mice. Our results provide novel evidence of the anti‐inflammatory and anti‐immunosenescence effects of coffee, suggesting that coffee consumption could be considered a healthy habit. This paper presents the development of an environmentally friendly, small molecular depressant citrus pectin for improving the recovery of cassiterite resources. Citrus pectin extracted from citrus peel was utilized as the depressant, and it demonstrated significant potential in separating calcite from cassiterite in micro-flotation tests. The molecular weight of the citrus pectin extracted in this paper decreased from 11,485,412 Da to 32,959 Da compared to commercial pectin, resulting in the depressant efficiency of the reagent. The results of a zeta potential and adsorption test indicated that citrus pectin had less and weaker adsorption on the cassiterite surface and could be replaced with NaOL. The chemical adsorption process of citrus pectin on the surface of calcite was determined through FTIR spectroscopy analysis. XPS analysis results indicated that the interaction between the carboxyl groups of citrus pectin and calcium atoms enables adsorption to occur. The AFM revealed that citrus pectin displayed a uniform and dense pattern of point-like adsorption on the surface of calcite. Micro-flotation experiments showed that cassiterite recovery of 80% can be obtained at a citrus pectin dosage of 10 mg/L. Citrus pectin has the advantages of being low-cost, highly selective, and environmentally suitable, making it a promising alternative to conventional reagents. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a prevalent type of liver cancer, is characterized by an unfavorable prognosis and a high mortality rate. Identifying novel treatments to prevent HCC recurrence and metastasis remains crucial for improving patient survival. Gamabufotalin (CS-6), a primary bufadienolide derived from the traditional Chinese medicine Chansu, has demonstrated significant anti-tumor activity. However, the effects and underlying mechanisms of CS-6 on HCC cells are not yet fully understood., Purpose: This study sought to elucidate the anti-HCC effects and potential mechanisms of CS-6. In vitro experiments were conducted using the HCC cell lines MHCC97H and Huh-7, employing CCK-8 assays, colony formation assays, wound healing assays, transwell invasion and migration assays, and flow cytometry to assess apoptosis and cell cycle dynamics. A multi-omics approach, including metabolomics and RNA sequencing analysis, was utilized to identify CS-6's molecular targets and mechanisms in HCC therapy. Additionally, in vivo assessments were performed using xenografts in nude mice., Results: CS-6 significantly inhibited HCC cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. Multi-omics analysis suggested that CS-6's anti-HCC effects may involve the modulation of metabolic pathways, potentially through the downregulation of STAMBPL1, resulting in reduced mTOR signaling, increased apoptosis, and suppression of malignant HCC behavior. In vivo studies further confirmed that CS-6 significantly suppressed tumor growth and enhanced apoptosis and autophagy within tumors., Conclusion: These results underscore the therapeutic potential of CS-6 in HCC treatment. The study offers novel insights into the mechanism of CS-6, suggesting that its therapeutic efficacy may be uniquely mediated by targeting STAMBPL1. Background: The association between poor cardiovascular health and cognitive decline as well as dementia progression has been inconsistent across studies. This study used Mendelian randomization (MR) to investigate the causal relationship between Alzheimer disease (AD), circulating levels of total-tau, and coronary artery disease (CAD)., Methods and Results: This study used MR to investigate the causal relationship between AD or circulating levels of total-tau and CAD, including ischemic heart disease, myocardial infarction, coronary heart disease, coronary atherosclerosis, and heart failure. The primary analysis used the inverse-variance weighted method, with pleiotropy and heterogeneity assessed using MR-Egger regression and the Q statistic. The overall results of the MR analysis indicated that AD did not exhibit a causal effect on heart failure (odds ratio [OR], 0.969 [95% CI, 0.921-1.018]; P =0.209), myocardial infarction (OR, 0.972 [95% CI, 0.915-1.033]; P =0.359), ischemic heart disease (OR, 1.013 [95% CI, 0.949-1.082]; P =0.700), coronary heart disease (OR, 1.005 [95% CI, 0.937-1.078]; P =0.881), or coronary atherosclerosis (OR, 0.987 [95% CI, 0.926-1.052]; P =0.690). No significant causal effect of CAD was observed on AD in the reverse MR analysis. Additionally, our findings revealed that CAD did not influence circulating levels of total-tau, nor did circulating levels of total-tau increase the risk of CAD. Sensitivity analysis and assessment of horizontal pleiotropy suggested that these factors did not distort the causal estimates., Conclusions: The findings of this study indicate the absence of a direct causal relationship between AD and CAD from a genetic perspective. Therefore, managing the 2 diseases should be more independent and targeted. Concurrently, investigating the mechanism underlying their comorbidity may not yield meaningful insights for advancing treatment strategies.

Background: Ipsilateral breast tumor recurrence (IBTR) following breast-conserving surgery (BCS) has been considered a risk factor for distant metastasis (DM). Limited data are available regarding the subsequent outcomes after IBTR. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the clinical course after IBTR and develop a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based predictive model for subsequent DM., Methods: We retrospectively extracted quantitative features from MRI to construct a radiomics cohort, with all eligible patients undergoing preoperative MRI at time of primary tumor and IBTR between 2010 and 2018. Multivariate Cox analysis was performed to identify factors associated with DM. Three models were constructed using different sets of clinicopathological, qualitative, and quantitative MRI features and compared. Additionally, Kaplan-Meier analysis was performed to assess the prognostic value of the optimal model., Results: Among the 183 patients who experienced IBTR, 47 who underwent MRI for both primary and recurrent tumors were enrolled. Multivariate analysis demonstrated that the independent prognostic factors were human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) status [hazard ratio (HR) =5.40] and background parenchymal enhancement (BPE) (HR =7.94) (all P values <0.01). Furthermore, four quantitative MRI features of recurrent tumors were selected through the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) method. The combined model exhibited superior performance [concordance index (C-index) 0.77] compared to the clinicoradiological model (C-index 0.71; P=0.006) and radiomics model (C-index 0.70; and P=0.01). Furthermore, the combined model successfully categorized patients into low- and high-risk subgroups with distinct prognoses (P<0.001)., Conclusions: The clinicopathological and MRI features of IBTR were associated with secondary events following surgery. Additionally, the MRI-based combined model exhibited the highest predictive efficacy. Background: The rapid increase in the use of radiodiagnostic examinations in China, especially computed tomography (CT) scans, has led to these examinations being the largest artificial source of per capita effective dose (ED). This study conducted a retrospective analysis of the correlation between image quality, ED, and body composition in 540 cases that underwent thyroid, chest, or abdominal CT scans. The aim of this analysis was to evaluate the correlation between the parameters of CT scans and body composition in common positions of CT examination (thyroid, chest, and abdomen) and ultimately inform potential measures for reducing radiation exposure., Methods: This study included 540 patients admitted to Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center from January 2015 to December 2019 who underwent both thyroid or chest or abdominal CT scan and body composition examination. Average CT values and standard deviation (SD) values were collected for the homogeneous areas of the thyroid, chest, or abdomen, and the average CT values and SD values of adjacent subcutaneous fat tissue were measured in the same region of interest (ROI). All data were measured three times, and the average was taken to calculate the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) for each area. The dose-length product (DLP) was recorded, and the ED was calculated with the following: formula ED = k × DLP. Dual-energy X-ray was used to determine body composition and obtain indicators such as percentage of spinal and thigh muscle. Pearson correlation coefficient was used to analyze the correlations between body composition indicators, height, weight, body mass index (BMI), and ED., Results: The correlation coefficients between the SNR of abdominal CT scan and weight, BMI, and body surface area (BSA) were -0.470 (P=0.001), -0.485 (P=0.001), and -0.437 (P=0.002), representing a moderate correlation strength with statistically significant differences. The correlation coefficients between the ED of chest CT scans and weight, BMI, spinal fat percentage, and BSA were 0.488 (P=0.001), 0.473 (P=0.002), 0.422 (P=0.001), and 0.461 (P=0.003), respectively, indicating a moderate correlation strength with statistical differences. Purpose: To investigate the post-radiofrequency ablation (RFA) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) characteristics in patients with liver metastases from colorectal cancer and to build a predictive model for local tumor progression based on these imaging markers., Materials and Methods: A cohort of 73 patients with 110 colorectal cancer liver metastases (CRCLM) who underwent RFA and MRI one month post-ablation was included in image signs analysis and predictive model training. Using a newly developed MRI appearance scoring criteria, MR Image Appearance Scoring at One Month after RFA (MRIAS 1MO), the semi-quantitative analysis of MRI findings within the ablation zone were conducted independently by two radiologists. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was calculated to evaluate measurement reliability. Differences in MRIAS 1MO scores were compared using Mann-Whitney U test, focusing on local tumor response outcomes. Using local tumor progression (LTP) as the primary end point, MRIAS 1MO scores and other lesion morphological and clinical characteristics were included to establish predictive model. Predication accuracy was subsequently evaluated using calibration curve, time-dependent concordance index (C index) curve, and LTP-free survival (LTPFS) curve. Another cohort comprising 60 patients with 76 CRCLMs provided additional MRIAS 1MO scores and clinical data associated with LTP. We evaluated the performance of the established predictive model using calibration curve, time-dependent C index curve, and LTPFS curve., Results: The MRIAS 1MO criteria exhibited strong measurement reliability. The ICC values of T1S (scores from T1WI), T2S (scores form T2WI) and NCES (scores by adding T1S to T2S) MRIS (the overall scores) were 0.825, 0.779, 0.826 and 0.873, respectively. Lesions with LTP showed significantly higher median values for the overall MRIAS 1MO score (MRIS) compared to lesions without LTP (16 vs. 12, p < 0.001). MRIS and lesion diameter were independent prognostic factors of LTP and were included in predictive model (hazard ratio: MRIS over 13.5:4.275, lesion diameter larger than 30 mm: 2.056). The predictive model demonstrated an overall C index of 0.721 and risk stratification using the predictive model resulted in significantly different LPTFS times. In the validation cohort, the C index were 0.825, 0.794 and 0.764 at six, twelve and twenty-four months, respectively. Patients classified as high-risk in the validation cohort had a median LTPFS time of 10.0 months, while the median LTPFS time was not reached in the low-risk group., Conclusions: The semi-quantitative MRIAS 1MO criteria, used for post-RFA MRI appearance analysis, exhibited strong measurement reliability. Prediction models established based on overall MRIAS 1MO score (MRIS) and lesion diameter had good predictive performance for LTP in patients undergoing RFA for CRCLM treatment.
