Since the end of the 20th century, the imaginary of living being reducible to its genetic information has been a decisive factor in the generalization of biotech considered as a set of new innovation practices associating the academic and industrial worlds, particularly in the medical sector. This article suggests that there multiple socio-technical imaginaries of the living that could be used to adapt the biotechnology innovation model beyond the medical sector. Based on the trajectory of a scientific and economic project aimed at getting microorganisms to produce a small molecule between the early 1990s and the mid-2010s in France and North America, this article argues two things. Firstly, it describes how the notions of platform molecules and metabolic pathways are at the heart of a biochemical imaginary of the living, updating an ancient vision of the living that has been erased by the rise of genetic engineering. On the other hand, the article shows how certain properties of this biochemical living are mobilized to adapt the biotechnology model to the industrial chemistry sector and to new territories.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), air pollution is the single greatest worldwide health risk especially in urban environments. In these areas, the vehicle traffic significantly contributes to the fine dust concentration in the ambient air. While the current legislation focuses mainly on the exhaust emission of vehicles, 85% of the overall fine dust emissions originating from brakes, tires, and road abrasion are not yet regulated. In this context, an integrated particulate filter system fitted into previously unused installation spaces in frontend of a vehicle in front of the radiator allows to compensate a part of the particle emissions of a vehicle try to reach the neutral emission. Add filter is not without consequences for the cooling performances. This study aims to assess the impact of the particulate filter system on the radiator cooling performances and cooling drag coefficient. An experimental setup was developed to characterize an automotive radiator with and without particle filter in terms of power and velocity distribution. Cooling capacity of the radiator depends clearly of the airflow through the radiator. Filter increases the pressure drop and decreases airflow. Hence, the heat power exchange can be reduced up to 10% for a pressure drop level almost twice. The airflow inlet inside engine compartment is not beneficial for aerodynamic aspect. By increasing pressure drop, the cooling drag coefficient can be reduced up to 10% when a filter covers entirely the radiator surface. The results indicate that the filter affects the cooling capacity of the radiator, which can require modifications to the cooling system strategy.

Cet article se propose de faire le lien entre l’Umwelt, le « monde » sensoriel propre du sujet, et ses jugements véridictoires et attitudes épistémiques. Il s’agit donc de décrire ce qui, dans un récit et son interprétation, garde les traces d’un conditionnement sensoriel ou perceptif. Nous nous proposons donc d’explorer les liens entre la différence de perception que deux sujets peuvent avoir et leur différence d’interprétation, ainsi que de développer cette idée avec des exemples concrets de ce conditionnement perceptif des récits et des jugements face au discours. Nous relevons qu’aussi bien du point de vue de la production des récits que de leurs interprétations, des traces de l’Umwelt se retrouvent nettement.

We study the accuracy of excited state (ES) geometries using optimally tuned LC-PBE functionals with tuning based on GW quasiparticle energies. We compare the results obtained with the PBE, PBE0, non-tuned, and tuned LC-PBE functionals with available high-level CC reference values as well as experimental data. First, we compare ES geometrical parameters obtained for three different types of systems: molecules composed of a few atoms, 4-(dimethylamino)benzonitrile (DMABN), and conjugated dyes. To this end, we used wave-function results as benchmarks. Next, we evaluate the accuracy of the theoretically simulated spectra as compared to the experimental ones for five large dyes. Our results show that, besides small compact molecules for which tuning LC-PBE does not allow obtaining geometries more accurate than those computed with standard functionals, tuned range-separated functionals are clearly to be favored, not only for ES geometries but also for 0–0 energies, band shapes, and intensities for absorption and emission spectra. In particular, the results indicate that GW-tuned LC-PBE functionals provide improved matching with experimental spectra as compared to conventionally tuned functionals. It is an open question whether TD-DFT with GW-tuned functionals can qualitatively mimic the actual many-body Bethe–Salpeter (BSE/GW) formalism for which analytic ionic gradients remain to be developed. PurposeKnowing the features of dental evolution and facial morphology, marked by an increase in the prevalence of agenesis and a tendency towards verticalization of the face, the main objective of this cross-sectional observational study was to assess the correlation between the occurrence of agenesis (of 3rd molars or other teeth) and facial morphology in the French population.MethodsThe study was conducted at the University Hospital of Rennes, France, from June 2022 to October 2022. Patients aged 12-18 years who underwent a global orthodontic assessment were included. Data collected from medical examinations, panoramic, anteroposterior, and lateral x-rays were analyzed for cephalometric and dental features. The association between morphological parameters and agenesis of wisdom teeth or other teeth was assessed by univariate and multivariate analysis.ResultsThe study included 259 patients, of whom 89 presented agenesis. Logistic regression analyses identified several morphological parameters associated with agenesis. In the multivariate model, a negative correlation was found between tooth agenesis and FMA (OR = 0.85; p < 0. 001), facial axis (OR = 0.92; p = 0.040), and a positive one with SNB (OR = 1.17; p = 0.023), ANS-Xi-Pm (OR = 1.12; p = 0.013).ConclusionThis study highlights the correlation between agenesis occurrence and specific cephalometric parameters in the French population. The findings suggest that transverse constriction of the maxilla, facial divergence, and anterior projection of the chin symphysis are associated with agenesis. Stereolithography 3D printing, although an increasingly used fabrication method for microfluidic chips, has the main disadvantage of producing monolithic chips in a single material. We propose to incorporate during printing various objects using a "print-pause-print" strategy. Here, we demonstrate that this novel approach can be used to incorporate glass slides, hydrosoluble films, paper pads, steel balls, elastic or nanoporous membranes and silicon-based microdevices, in order to add microfluidic functionalities as diverse as valves, fluidic diodes, shallow chambers, imaging windows for bacteria tracking, storage of reagents, blue energy harvesting or filters for cell capture and culture. Clinical trials frequently include multiple end points that mature at different times. The initial report, typically based on the primary end point, may be published when key planned co-primary or secondary analyses are not yet available. Clinical Trial Updates provide an opportunity to disseminate additional results from studies, published in JCO or elsewhere, for which the primary end point has already been reported. The APHINITY trial (ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT01358877) previously demonstrated that pertuzumab added to adjuvant trastuzumab and chemotherapy improved invasive disease-free survival (iDFS) for patients with early human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-positive (HER2+) breast cancer (BC). Here, we report the preplanned third interim analysis of overall survival (OS) and a descriptive updated iDFS analysis with 8.4 years of median follow-up of 4,804 patients in the intent-to-treat population. The 8-year OS was 92.7% in the pertuzumab versus 92.0% in the placebo group (hazard ratio [HR], 0.83 [95% CI, 0.68 to 1.02]; P = .078, above the 0.006 significance threshold). The HR was 0.80 [95% CI 0.63 to 1.00] in the node-positive cohort and 0.99 [95% CI, 0.64 to 1.55] in the node-negative cohort. Updated results of 8-year iDFS in the node-positive cohort showed an absolute improvement of 4.9% favoring pertuzumab (86.1% v 81.2%; HR, 0.72 [95% CI, 0.60 to 0.87]). The node-negative cohort did well without adding pertuzumab (8-year iDFS and OS in the placebo group were 93.3% and 96.4%, respectively). The iDFS benefit was seen in the hormone receptor-negative (HR, 0.82 [95% CI, 0.64 to 1.06]) and HR+ cohorts (HR of 0.75 [95% CI, 0.61 to 0.92]). Despite improvement in overall iDFS, the addition of pertuzumab did not improve OS at this third interim analysis.
