Classical German Philosophy has traditionally been understood as the period in the history of ideas in which the investigation of the human mind takes precedence over the investigation of the natural world. This assessment has a twofold consequence. On the one hand, the philosophy of the period has been praised for its contributions to our understanding of multiple expressions of human rationality such as history, art, and religion. On the other hand, such a philosophy has been criticized for its obscure speculations alien to the standards of modern scientific cognition. The philosophy of nature developed at the time has been accordingly dismissed as a piece of outdated metaphysics. Challenging this view, the contributions collected in this book argue for the historical and contemporary relevance of the approaches to nature formulated at the time.

Kürschners Deutscher Literatur-Kalender – seit über 140 Jahren die bewährte Dokumentation der zeitgenössischen deutschsprachigen Literaturszene – umfasst in seiner 74. Ausgabe Einträge zu ca. 9.000 Schriftstellerinnen und Schriftstellern. Ohne literaturkritische Wertung stellt der Literatur-Kalender die lebenden Verfasserinnen und Verfasser schöngeistiger Literatur in deutscher Sprache vor – unabhängig von Staatsangehörigkeit und geographischem Lebens- und Wirkungsbereich. Die Artikel informieren über Adressen, Lebensdaten, Mitgliedschaften in Fachverbänden und literarischen Vereinigungen, literarische Preise sowie die Veröffentlichungen der Schriftstellerinnen und Schriftsteller. Neu bearbeitet und aktualisiert wurden auch die umfangreichen Verzeichnisse im Anhang: über 1.000 literarische Übersetzerinnen und Übersetzer (mit Sprachenregister), über 700 Verlage, über 500 Literaturpreise mit den Preisträgern der letzten Jahre, mehr als 500 Fachverbände und literarische Vereinigungen, Literaturhäuser, etwa 200 literarische Zeitschriften und Periodika sowie literarische Agenturen, Kulturredaktionen von Rundfunk- und Fernsehanstalten und literarische Feuilletons werden aufgeführt.

2024 erscheint der 63. Jahrgang des Heine-Jahrbuchs. Er enthält u.a. Joseph A. Kruses Auseinandersetzung mit Heinrich Heines Poetisierungen zweier Familienmitglieder. Eckart Pastor, Davina Beck sowie Doris Fouquet-Plümacher untersuchen die intertextuellen Bezüge von Theodor Storm, Tankred Dorst und Franz von Gaudy zu Heine. Ronald Weber thematisiert einen in Vergessenheit geratenen Beitrag zum Düsseldorfer Denkmalstreit, Johannes Wedeking entwickelt den Situationsbegriff am Werk Heines und Martin Schneider analysiert die „Reisebilder“ unter dem Aspekt der Mobilisierung der Literatur.

Wie nutzen Patentanmelder die Anmeldemöglichkeiten des Patentsystems (aus)? Wichtigstes Instrument im Anmeldeprozess ist das Prioritätsrecht. Das bereits im Jahr 1883 durch die Pariser Verbandsübereinkunft eingeführte Recht erfreut sich bei Patentanmeldern großer Beliebtheit. Grund dafür ist seine rangsichernde Funktion, die ermöglicht, den Zeitrang einer früheren nationalen, europäischen oder internationalen Anmeldung in Anspruch zu nehmen. Zora Graef erläutert die Grundlagen der Inanspruchnahme von Auslandsprioritäten und arbeitet die Zwecke des Prioritätsrechts heraus. Im Mittelpunkt steht eine empirische Analyse der tatsächlichen Nutzung von Prioritätsrechten. Anhand von Anmeldezahlen, Patentanmeldungen und Prioritätsstreitigkeiten untersucht die Autorin, wie sich Patentanmelder das Prioritätsrecht in strategischer Hinsicht zunutze machen. Für Bereiche, in denen der Einsatz des Prioritätsrechts von seiner intendierten Nutzung abweicht, unterbreitet sie Verbesserungsvorschläge.

Bringing together the various heterodox traditions, groups and scholars that came under the heading of Open Marxism for the first time, this book assesses the evolution of Open Marxism from the initial usage of the term by Kostas Axelos in France in the 1950s and the journal, Arguments, principally the'anarchist Marx'of Maximilien Rubel and the'Libertarian Marxism'of Daniel Guérin, through Open Marxism as it was developed in Eastern Europe, especially in the scholarly work of Karel Kosik in Czechoslovakia, the work of the Polish Open Marxists and the Praxis group in Yugoslavia, to Johannes Agnoli's work in post-1968 (West) Germany, and finally to the work developed by Bonefeld, Clarke, Gunn and Holloway within the framework of the Conference of Socialist Economists (CSE) in Britain since the 1980s.Its comprehensive study of the historical development of Open Marxism in all its various guises and forms reasserts the rich insights of its devastating critique of social democracy, Leninism-Stalinism and the Althusserian structuralist paradigm. It introduces a new readership to Open Marxism's negative, fundamental, and destructive critique of capitalism and examines the practical relevance of its subversive thinking to the contemporary struggle for a free and open socialist society.

Racial injustice, at its core, is the domination of time. Utopia has been one response to this domination. The racially dominated are not free to define what counts as'progress,'they are not free from the accumulation of past injustices, and, most importantly, they are not free from the arbitrary organization of work in capitalist labor markets. Racially unjust societies are forms of life where the justifications for how to organize time around life, labor, and leisure are out of the hands of the dominated. In Race, Time, and Utopia, William Paris provides a theoretical account of utopia as the critical analysis of the sources of time domination and the struggle to create emancipatory forms of life. Rather than focusing on inclusion and equality before the law, as found in liberal theories of racial injustice, Paris analyses the neglected'utopian'tradition of justice in black political thought that insists justice can only be secured through the transformation of society as a whole. This transformation is nothing less than the democratic transformation of how organize and narrate our shared time. Bringing into conversation the work W.E.B Du Bois, Martin Delany, Marcus Garvey, Frantz Fanon, and James Boggs with the critical theory of Karl Marx, Ernst Bloch, Rahel Jaeggi, and Rainer Forst, Paris reconstructs a social theory and normative account of forms of life as the struggle over how time will be organized, asking'Can there be freedom without a new order of time?'
