Background: The association between oral food intake and oral function during the subacute stage of stroke is not well known., Objective: To investigate (1) oral function changes in subacute stroke patients and (2) association between oral function and oral intake status at several time points., Methods: In a prospective study involving 324 stroke patients at a convalescent rehabilitation unit, four oral function parameters (maximum tongue pressure, MTP; lip-tongue motor function, LTMF; maximum occlusal force, MOF and oral health assessment tool, OHAT) were quantitatively measured upon admission (T0), at 1 month (T1) and 2 months (T2). Oral feeding status was assessed using the Functional Oral Intake Scale (FOIS) and divided based on the FOIS score into the dysphagic and regular diet groups. The changes in oral functions at the three time points were tested using generalized estimating equation analysis. The association between FOIS groups and oral functions at T1 and T2 was analysed by means of logistic regression analysis., Results: All oral function parameters improved significantly over time during the hospital stay (mean differences: 4.9 for MTP, 0.6 for LTMF, 1.1 for MOF and -1.8 for OHAT). The FOIS groups were significantly associated with MTP (p < .05) and OHAT (p < .05) at both T1 and T2., Conclusion: Our findings suggest that oral function significantly improves in patients during subacute stroke rehabilitation and better oral health can be associated with better oral intake. Objectives: To investigate the changes in oral health status with dental intervention during the acute and subacute stages of stroke and their associations with oral intake status., Background: Oral health may deteriorate easily in patients following a stroke. However, data are scarce on the changes in oral health with dental intervention throughout the acute and subacute stages of stroke recovery., Material and Methods: We prospectively recruited 98 stroke patients who were admitted to an acute hospital and referred to a dental team and then could be followed at a subacute rehabilitation unit in the same hospital. Provided dental intervention, including oral health care and other general dental treatments, was recorded. Oral health was assessed with Oral Health Assessment Tool (OHAT), and the changes in OHAT score during the acute and subacute stages were statistically tested. Oral feeding status was examined using Functional Oral Intake Scale (FOIS). The cohort was divided into the non-oral feeding, dysphagia and regular diet groups based on FOIS score. Differences in OHAT among the oral intake groups were statistically tested., Results: Gross OHAT score did not differ among the oral intake groups at the time of admission (mean ± standard deviation score: 6.5 ± 2.8 for non-oral diet, 5.6 ± 2.4 for dysphagia diet and 5.3 ± 2.1 for regular diet), but improved more in the regular diet group (2.4 ± 1.5) than in the other groups (5.8 ± 3.0 for non-oral diet and 4.0 ± 2.1 for dysphagia diet) at the last evaluation. Oral hygiene scores improved significantly in the acute stage, while scores for dentures and natural teeth ameliorated significantly in the subacute stage., Conclusion: Our findings suggest that appropriate dental intervention in the acute and subacute stages of stroke may contribute to improved oral health and oral food intake., (© 2023 The Authors. Given the worldwide increase of forcibly displaced populations, particularly internally displaced persons (IDPs), it's crucial to have an up-to-date and precise tracking framework for population movements. Here, we study how the spatial and temporal pattern of a large-scale internal population movement can be monitored using human mobility datasets by exploring the case of IDPs in Ukraine at the beginning of the Russian invasion of 2022. Specifically, this study examines the sizes and travel distances of internal displacements based on GPS human mobility data, using the combinations of mobility pattern estimation methods such as truncated power law fitting and visualizing the results for humanitarian operations. Our analysis reveals that, although the city of Kyiv started to lose its population around 5 weeks before the invasion, a significant drop happened in the second week of the invasion (4.3 times larger than the size of the population lost in 5 weeks before the invasion), and the population coming to the city increased again from the third week of the invasion, indicating that displaced people started to back to their homes. Meanwhile, adjacent southern areas of Kyiv and the areas close to the western borders experienced many migrants from the first week of the invasion and from the second to third weeks of the invasion, respectively. In addition, people from relatively higher-wealth areas tended to relocate their home locations far away from their original locations compared to those from other areas. For example, 19 % of people who originally lived in higher wealth areas in the North region, including the city of Kyiv, moved their home location more than 500 km, while only 9 % of those who originally lived in lower wealth areas in the North region moved their home location more than 500 km.., (© 2024. Modeling and predicting human mobility trajectories in urban areas is an essential task for various applications including transportation modeling, disaster management, and urban planning. The recent availability of large-scale human movement data collected from mobile devices has enabled the development of complex human mobility prediction models. However, human mobility prediction methods are often trained and tested on different datasets, due to the lack of open-source large-scale human mobility datasets amid privacy concerns, posing a challenge towards conducting transparent performance comparisons between methods. To this end, we created an open-source, anonymized, metropolitan scale, and longitudinal (75 days) dataset of 100,000 individuals' human mobility trajectories, using mobile phone location data provided by Yahoo Japan Corporation (currently renamed to LY Corporation), named YJMob100K. The location pings are spatially and temporally discretized, and the metropolitan area is undisclosed to protect users' privacy. Objective: There is no established consensus or guidelines for wound management after revascularization for patients with chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI) without severe infection. This study is designed to evaluate the clinical effect of the wound management strategy on toe wounds after revascularization for CLTI., Methods: This retrospective cohort study was performed at eight institutions affiliated with Keio University School of Medicine in Japan and included 261 patients who underwent revascularization for CLTI between April 2019 and July 2021. We identified 132 patients with toe wounds from the database who had restored in-line blood flow to the foot. Patients were divided into two groups by the timing of toe resection after revascularization, which dictated the wound management policy. Group A (62 patients) underwent early toe amputation for suspected osteomyelitis, whereas group B (70 patients) underwent watchful waiting. The primary outcome was wound healing after revascularization; the secondary outcome was major amputation. We compared outcomes between groups A and B after propensity score matching., Results: Using propensity score matching, each patient in group A (33 patients) was matched with a patient in group B (33 patients). Wound healing in matched group A was significantly better than that in matched group B (respectively: 1-year wound healing rate: 90.0% vs 68.2%, P < .001; median wound healing time: 65 days vs 258 days, P < .01). Although five major amputations were necessary in matched group B, none were required in matched group A (P = .05). The high rate of major amputations in group B was attributed to the sudden exacerbation of infection. Limb salvage rate in matched group A exceeded matched group B (100.0% vs 90.5%: 1-year limb salvage rate, P = .02)., Conclusions: Early toe amputation for highly suspected osteomyelitis in patients with CLTI with toe wounds may expedite wound healing compared with watchful waiting, potentially avoiding unnecessary major amputation. Currently, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism (Japan) is in the process of developing an open 3D city model known as PLATEAU. Abundant measurement data related to buildings, including maps produced by private companies and mobile mapping system point clouds, have been collected to enhance the value of the 3D city model. To achieve this, it is necessary to identify the buildings for which measurement data is available. In this study, we propose and evaluate an efficient matching method for various building measurement data, primarily using geometric properties. In Numazu city, PLATEAU IDs were assigned to 88,525 Zenrin buildings as part of a private map. The results indicate that 90.6% of the polygons were matched. For aerial images, 93.6% of the extracted buildings matched the PLATEAU buildings, although only 70.9% of the PLATEAU data was extracted from the images. Using the level of detail 1 and 2 models, 46 textured building files were created from the mobile mapping system point cloud. Anisotropic cell expansion is crucial for the morphogenesis of land plants, as cell migration is restricted by the rigid cell wall. The anisotropy of cell expansion is regulated by mechanisms acting on the deposition or modification of cell wall polysaccharides. Besides the polysaccharide components in the cell wall, a layer of hydrophobic cuticle covers the outer cell wall and is subjected to tensile stress that mechanically restricts cell expansion. However, the molecular machinery that deposits cuticle materials in the appropriate spatiotemporal manner to accommodate cell and tissue expansion remains elusive. Here, we report that PpABCB14, an ATP-binding cassette transporter in the moss Physcomitrium patens, regulates the anisotropy of cell expansion. PpABCB14 localized to expanding regions of leaf cells. Deletion of PpABCB14 resulted in impaired anisotropic cell expansion. Unexpectedly, the cuticle proper was reduced in the mutants, and the cuticular lipid components decreased. Moreover, induced PpABCB14 expression resulted in deformed leaf cells with increased cuticle lipid accumulation on the cell surface. Taken together, PpABCB14 regulates the anisotropy of cell expansion via cuticle deposition, revealing a regulatory mechanism for cell expansion in addition to the mechanisms acting on cell wall polysaccharides., (© 2023 The Authors New Phytologist © 2023 New Phytologist Foundation.)
