The next‐generation bionics and, more specifically, wearable and implantable bioelectronics require wireless, battery‐free, long‐term operation and seamless bio‐integration. Design considerations, materials choice, and implementation of efficient architectures have become crucial for the fabrication and deployment of wireless devices, especially if they are flexible or soft. Wireless power and data transfer represent key elements for the development of robust, efficient, and reliable systems for health monitoring, advanced disease diagnosis and treatment, personalized medicine. Here, the recent advances in materials and technologies used for wireless energy sourcing and telemetry in bio‐integrated flexible bionic and bioelectronic systems are reviewed. The study tackles different challenges related to mechanical compliance, low thickness, small footprint, biocompatibility, biodegradability, and in vivo implementation. The work also delves into the main figures of merit that are mostly adopted to quantify the wireless power/data transfer performances. Lastly, the pivotal applications of wearable and implantable wireless bionics/bioelectronics are summarized, such as electrical stimulation/recording, real‐time monitoring of physiological parameters, light delivery trough optical interfaces, electromechanical stimulation via ultrasounds, highlighting their potential for future implementation and the challenges related to their commercialization. Summary On‐demand manufacturing in Industry 4.0 requires flexibility of the networks which can be provided with the fifth generation (5G) of mobile communications wireless connectivity. A key component in the efficient utilization of the radio resources in a manufacturing scenario is network resource management (NRM). We show how NRM can be automated with artificial intelligence (AI). We introduce several futuristic industrial use cases that require AI in various parts of the process. We analyze the AI components' benefits and disadvantages in several deployment scenarios. The findings can be used by business stakeholders interested in deploying the 5G cellular wireless network to choose the best NRM and AI implementation strategy for a particular use case. We show that there are many viable options for the AI component in the process automation, but the cost of AI has to be considered in all cases. Also, we point out that an essential component, the standardized information flow on the status of the productivity key performance indicators (KPIs), is needed for the successful deployment and application of the 5G AI. Traditional body temperature monitoring technology has some problems, such as inaccurate manual reading, unable to monitor continuously for a long time, and difficult data storage and analysis. To solve these problems, this paper designs an application scenario of Internet of Things in body temperature monitoring, which integrates Internet of Things, network communication, network programming and other technologies, designs the overall architecture, topology structure and IP address allocation scheme of the system, and realizes real-time acquisition, transmission, storage, analysis, and display functions based on the Packet Tracer simulation platform. The performance evaluation and optimization are also carried out. The system realizes wireless monitoring and analysis of the body temperature data collected by the temperature sensor through the home gateway and single chip microcomputer and other devices. Ultra-wideband radio signals have been the subject of study for several decades. They are used to solve problems of communications and ranging. Measuring the strength (power) of a radio signal is a technically simple way to estimate the distance between the emitter and the receiver of the signal. However, the conditions of signal propagation have a significant impact on the power of the received signal. This work is relevant because chaotic radio pulses are a relatively new type of carrier in wireless technologies, and actual knowledge about the change in signal power in different types of premises is relatively small, so such a study is necessary. In this paper, we study the variation in signal power with distance for chaotic ultra-wideband radio pulses under various propagation conditions. Using experimental measurements in several outdoor (field, roadside) and indoor (corridors, conference room, office) environments, we investigate the effect of propagation conditions on ultra-wideband chaotic radio signals and determine the limits within which the dependence of the calculated power on distance can be approximated by a power law. For this purpose, the results of experimental measurements of the received signal power (a total of about 17.5 M values) were accumulated and analyzed. The accuracy of distance measurement that can be achieved in different conditions is compared and analyzed. It was found that for a 9.5 dBm signal, the range of distances at which the average accuracy is only 15–50 cm when using a power law is 5–7 m indoors and 10–15 m outdoors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The digitalization of agriculture is rapidly changing the way farmers do business. With the integration of advanced technology, farmers are now able to increase efficiency, productivity, and precision in their operations. Digitalization allows for real-time monitoring and management of crops, leading to improved yields and reduced waste. This paper presents a review of some of the use cases that digitalization has made an impact in the automation of open-field and closedfield cultivations by means of collecting data about soils, crop growth, and microclimate, or by contributing to more accurate decisions about water usage and fertilizer application. The objective was to address some of the most recent technological advances that are leading to increased efficiency and sustainability of crop production, reduction in the use of inputs and environmental impacts, and releasing manual workforces from repetitive field tasks. The short discussions included at the end of each case study attempt to highlight the limitations and technological challenges toward successful implementations, as well as to introduce alternative solutions and methods that are rapidly evolving to offer a vast array of benefits for farmers by influencing cost-saving measures. This review concludes that despite the many benefits of digitalization, there are still a number of challenges that need to be overcome, including high costs, reliability, and scalability. Most of the available setups that are currently used for this purpose have been custom designed for specific tasks and are still too expensive to be implemented on commercial scales, while others are still in their early stages of development, making them not reliable or scalable for widespread acceptance and adoption by farmers. By providing a comprehensive understanding of the current state of digitalization in agriculture and its impact on sustainable crop production and food security, this review provides insights for policy-makers, industry stakeholders, and researchers working in this field. One aspect of reproducibility in preclinical research that is frequently overlooked is the physical condition in which physiological, pharmacological, or behavioural recordings are conducted. In this study, the physical conditions of mice were altered through the attachments of wireless electrophysiological recording devices (Neural Activity Tracker-1, NAT-1). NAT-1 devices are miniaturised multichannel devices with onboard memory for direct high-resolution recording of brain activity for >48 h. Such devices may limit the mobility of animals and affect their behavioural performance due to the added weight (total weight of approximately 3.4 g). The mice were additionally treated with saline (control), N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist MK801 (0.85 mg/kg), or the muscarinic acetylcholine receptor blocker scopolamine (0.65 mg/kg) to allow exploration of the effect of NAT-1 attachments in pharmacologically treated mice. We found only minimal differences in behavioural outcomes with NAT-1 attachments in standard parameters of locomotor activity widely reported for the open field test between the drug treatments. Hypoactivity was globally observed as a consistent outcome in the MK801-treated mice and hyperactivity in scopolamine groups regardless of NAT-1 attachments. These data collectively confirm the reproducibility for combined behavioural, pharmacological, and physiological endpoints even in the presence of lightweight wireless data loggers. The NAT-1 therefore constitutes a pertinent tool for investigating brain activity in, e.g., drug discovery and models of neuropsychiatric and/or neurodegenerative diseases with minimal effects on pharmacological and behavioural outcomes. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of auditory training (AT) in patients with unilateral hearing loss (UHL) using hearing aids (HAs), comparing traditional methods with a new approach involving a wireless remote microphone. Methods: The study included 96 participants, divided into two groups, with ages ranging from 42 to 64 years, comprising both male and female subjects. A clinical trial including consecutive moderate UHL patients was performed at our institution. For the study group, a Roger Pen was used during AT with patients inside a sound-attenuating cabin. Controls followed conventional sessions. Professional speech and language pathologists performed the rehabilitation. Audiological outcomes were measured, including word recognition at signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) of 0 dB, +5 dB, and +10 dB, to determine the effectiveness of the training. Measurements also included the Speech, Spatial, and Qualities of Hearing Scale to assess perceived auditory abilities. Results: A total of 46 and 50 UHL patients were randomly included in the study and control groups, respectively. No differences were found in terms of sex, age, presence of tinnitus, duration of hearing loss, pure tone average, and speech-in-noise perception without an HA. Following HA fitting and AT, a notable enhancement in the ability to identify speech in noisy environments was observed in the study group. This improvement was significant at SNRs of +5 and +10. When comparing the ability to identify speech in noise using HAs across both groups, it was observed that hearing capabilities post-wireless AT showed a significant improvement at an SNR of +5. Only the study group had a significant improvement in the total Speech, Spatial, and Qualities of Hearing Scale score after the training. Conclusions: In our group of UHL patients, we found significantly better speech-in-noise perception when HA fitting was followed by wireless AT. Wireless AT may facilitate usage of HAs, leading to binaural hearing in UHL patients. This study aims to design and evaluate a wireless electronic stethoscope that can transmit heart sound using Bluetooth HC-05 and Bluetooth 5.0 transmitter. This novel design contributes to the remote diagnosis and monitoring of heart conditions, especially for patients with infectious diseases. The heart sound signals are captured using a mic condenser mic, amplified, filtered, and converted to digital data by a microcontroller. The data are then transmitted by Bluetooth HC-05 to a module and by Bluetooth 5.0 transmitter to a headset. The quality-of-service parameters such as throughput, delay, and packet loss ratio (PLR) of the data transmission at different distances are measured. The results show that the wireless electronic stethoscope can transmit heart sound data with a small PLR of 0.10% and a throughput of 1002.5 bps. The study concludes that the wireless electronic stethoscope is an effective and useful device for examining heart conditions remotely, without compromising the functionality of the device. Although hand-held ultrasound devices (HHUSDs) are currently used for a diverse range of diagnostic and interventional applications the imaging performance of such scanners is rarely considered. The aim of this study was to assess the imaging performance of a wide-range of HHUSDs and compare their imaging performance to cart-based systems utilized for the same clinical applications. The grayscale imaging performances of 19 HHUSDs from eight different manufacturers, manufactured between 2016 and 2021, were measured using a figure-of-merit known as the resolution integral. The imaging performance of the HHUSDs were compared to 142 cart-based ultrasound scanners. The HHUSD with the overall highest resolution integral (66) was a Butterfly (Burlington, MA, USA) wired phased array for small parts applications, followed by a Philips (Bothell, WA, USA) Lumify wired curvilinear transducer (57) for abdominal applications, a Butterfly wired phased array (56) for abdominal applications, a GE (Freiburg, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany) VScan Air wireless linear array (56) for small parts applications, and a Healcerion (Seoul, Korea) Sonon 300L wireless linear array (56) for small parts applications. A GE VScan Extend wired phased array had the highest resolution integral (44) for cardiac applications. The Butterfly phased array had the highest resolution integral of all the 19 HHUSDs, although this value is still less than the majority of cart-based cardiac and abdominal ultrasound scanners manufactured from 2010 to 2017. Efficient allocation of resources is crucial in wireless ad hoc networks (WANETs) as spectrum assets are costly. Cooperative communications were introduced as a solution to the problem of limited spectrum availability. In this approach, numerous nodes share their resources and increase the bandwidth available to end-users. This research investigates the practicality of a new algorithm that optimizes resources based on load for Cooperative Communications in 5 G WANETs. The algorithm consists of two components. Initially, a distributed algorithm for forming a topology is suggested. This algorithm employs a load-based approach to explore network conditions and efficiently choose the most suitable topology. An optimization algorithm that relies on a greedy strategy is suggested. In this approach, the chosen nodes send their bits to the receiver to maximize the attainable system throughput. A thorough simulation study is conducted to evaluate the overall performance of the proposed algorithm in assessing existing methods. The proposed model obtained 94.72 % energy efficiency, 91.69 % network throughput, 94.72 % spectrum utilization, 27.47 % network delay, 24.08 % packet loss rate, 94.38 % signal-to-noise ratio, 93.91 % data transfer rate, 95.87 % error detection rate, and 94.28 % link reliability rate. The results demonstrate that the suggested algorithm significantly enhances the system and the overall network performance compared to existing approaches. The proposed approach is feasible and environmentally friendly for optimizing bandwidth in 5 G wireless ad hoc Networks.

The paper presents a wireless system integrated with a machine learning (ML) model for structural health monitoring (SHM) of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) structures, primarily targeting aerospace applications. The system collects data via carbon nanotube (CNT) piezoresistive sensors embedded within CFRP coupons, wirelessly transmitting these data to a central server for processing. A deep neural network (DNN) model predicts mechanical properties and can be extended to forecast structural failures, facilitating proactive maintenance and enhancing safety. The modular design supports scalability and can be embedded within digital twin frameworks, offering significant benefits to aircraft operators and manufacturers. The system utilizes an ML model with a mean absolute error (MAE) of 0.14 on test data for forecasting mechanical properties. Data transmission latency throughout the entire system is less than one second in a LAN setup, highlighting its potential for real-time monitoring applications in aerospace and other industries. However, while the system shows promise, challenges such as sensor reliability under extreme environmental conditions and the need for advanced ML models to handle diverse data streams have been identified as areas for future research.

【Objective】The significance of wireless network equipment troubleshooting can be used to solve the network connection problems, improving user experience, and maintaining network stability and reliability. However, the accuracy of existing methods needs to be further improved.【Methods】To address this problem, this paper quotes the attention mechanism in the Convolutional Neural Networks(CNN)- Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) network structure and proposes a wireless network equipment fault diagnosis method based on the CNN-GRU-Attention network structure.【Results】Compared with other methods in the simulation experiment, the method in this paper improved the accuracy of the model from 91% to 98%.【Conclusion】Through the research of this article, the quality and efficiency of wireless network equipment operation have been improved. The network capacity, functionality and reliability have also been improved, and people's growing communication needs for wireless networks have been met.

The densification of the vehicle fleet leads to numerous challenges in road safety management. Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) helps to manage vehicle-vehicle-infrastructure interactivity, in particular to predict dangers and avoid accidents, detect and penalize traffic violations. This requires a massive deployment of communicating nodes embedded in vehicles and in road infrastructure. The reliability of the systems built on these nodes lies in the accuracy of the ranging. In order to improve the factors that impact accuracy, various ranging protocols have been developed, but their implementations most often involve the use of expensive and specialized transceivers, which incorporate a dedicated IEEE 802.15.4a ranging layer. Our approach implements the basic and advanced functions integrated into low-cost transceivers and microcontrollers. As result, in two or three links according to the case, our protocol performs simultaneously the ranging and the data exchange, against a specific ranging session with a minimum of three exchanges for the other protocols. Moreover, each node knows the ranging data and has its clock frequency adapted to the controlled process. So, we meet the challenges of large-scale low-cost node deployment, while ensuring high reliability and performance of ranging.

Abstract Experiments measuring evoked potentials require flexible and rapid adjustment of stimulation and recording parameters. In this study, we have developed a recording system and an associated Android application that allow making such adjustments wirelessly. The system consists of 3 units: for stimulation, recording and control. Most of the modules in this system are custom made, although the stimulator and tablet are off-the-shelf products. When installed on the tablet, our Android application allows wireless communication with the control unit from a distance of 5 m. In testing, the recording unit had low internal noise and displayed signals faithfully. Upon receiving commands from the control unit, the stimulation unit produced precisely timed pulse outputs. Using this system, we were able to record evoked field potentials in the dentate gyrus of a rat; responses increased as expected with increasing stimulation pulse amplitude and duration.

The combination of piezoelectric ceramics with silicon nanomembranes can provide a unique combination of electronic and mechanical functionality. For example, an integrated remotely accessible sensor/actuator can serve as a sound transducer to be placed on the tympanic membrane of the human ear. Such an implant would enable direct sound transmission in the kHz range via down‐conversion of a modulated carrier signal at radio frequency. The viability of this concept is demonstrated via a specific design of the nanomembrane bonded over a hole in the piezoelectric chip as well as driving this chip to create a strong nonlinear mechanical response in the nanomembrane. The response in the audible‐frequency range and the result is demonstrated by modulating the piezoelectric chip with a C‐major audible tune—the tone ladder—and retrieving this sound by an optical readout method are centered. Finally, to prove the possibility of remote actuation of the nanomembrane, an antenna on the chip is integrated and the wide‐band transmission from a mobile source is simulated. Flexible wireless pressure sensors based on the LC resonance principle have emerged for critical applications in wearable devices. However, the challenge remains to promote the sensing performance while maintaining good wearability of the devices. Herein, a 3D spiral liquid metal sensor (3D‐SLMS) is reported with a spinning top‐shaped structure for wireless human motion detection. The device is composed of only liquid metals embedded in Ecoflex elastomer, thus being highly flexible. The study develops a unique method to fabricate 3D‐SLMS by integration of mask‐assisted spraying of liquid metals and virtual molding tuned by vacuum. Under an external load, the deformation of the spinning top‐shaped structure leads to changes in both inductance and capacitance, offering a detectable shift in the resonant frequency of the sensor. The 3D‐SLMS technology allows for a high sensitivity of −0.502 MHz N−1, a limit of detection as low as 0.71 mN, fast response time of 0.6 s, and stretchability up to 158% without device failure. As a proof‐of‐concept, the wireless pressure detection of various human motions such as arm bending, fisting, boxing, coughing, and flatfoot diagnosis is successfully implemented, thus promising translation of wearable electronics for sport monitoring and medical rehabilitation. Manufactured implants were characterized with respect to their optoelectronic performance and biocompatibility following DIN EN ISO 10993.A 14 mm diameter prosthesis containing 1276 pixels with a maximum sensitivity at a near infrared wavelength of 905 nm and maximized stimulation current density 30–50 μm below the electrodes was developed for direct activation of retinal ganglion cells during epiretinal stimulation. Fabricated prostheses demonstrated mucosal tolerance and the preservation of both metabolic activity, proliferation and membrane integrity of human fibroblasts as well as the retinal functions of bovine retinas. Residential consumption represents one of the most important percentages of total electricity consumption. A considerable number of household appliances consume energy even when they are not in operation, i.e., they are in the so-called standby state, thus producing additional costs, which become significant over time. In this context, one method to solve this problem is to develop a smart system capable of severing the power connection to devices in standby mode, thereby conserving energy and reducing the energy costs. The first step in the design of this system consists of the identification and accurate measurement of the standby state, which was carried out for three of the most common household appliances. Then, by using an ESP32 microcontroller, a system was designed to manage the operation of a relay module based on the current consumption of the connected equipment. Control over the system was achieved through a web application that works across all devices equipped with a web browser, offering functionalities to adjust current value time delays and to manually switch the system on or off. A low-power wireless network design is an iterative process that integrates multiple optimization techniques to identify and mitigate redundant network operations. Existing power-aware models either showcase higher complexity or require larger information sets, which limits their scalability for real-time networks. Moreover, these models work well under an elaborative set network configuration but cannot be used for general-purpose networks. The study suggests creating a novel hybrid bioinspired clustering model for energy-aware wireless network deployment to address these problems. The proposed model initially collects limited network information sets, including approximate node locations, residual energy levels, temporal throughput, and packet delivery levels. These sets are processed via a Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO), which performs initial binary-clustering operations. These binary clusters are generated by iterative identification of high-energy nodes between a given set of source & destination pairs. Results of the clustering process are used to train a Particle Swarm Optimizer (PSO) that uses the temporal information sets to identify energy-aware routing paths. The PSO models a temporal fitness function capable of reducing redundant node selections, thereby improving network lifetime even under many communication requests. Performance of the GWO-clustering & PSO-routing model was validated under large-scale scenarios, and it was observed that the proposed model reduced energy consumption by 8.3% while improving communication speed by 3.2% with a 4.5% higher data rate and 2.9% higher packet delivery performance under real-time heterogeneous network scenarios. Wi-Fi is an integral and invaluable part of our media practices. Wireless networks are blended into our media environment and, in terms of infrastructural importance, have become comparable with electricity or water. This article offers a new transnational perspective on the underexplored history of IEEE 802.11 standards by focusing on the tensions between the United States and Europe in terms of development trajectories of wireless technology. The goal is to analyze the standardization of wireless networking through a transnational lens and to contribute to enhanced understanding of the global proliferation of Wi-Fi technology. Four particular aspects of the transnational development of Wi-Fi technology are discussed: the rivalry between US and European standards, the constitutive choice to focus on data transmission, radio spectrum availability, and the peculiarities of network authentication. As wearable devices continue to proliferate, seamlessly integrating them into wireless body-area networks (WBANs) becomes increasingly crucial. Bodycoupled communication (BCC) emerges as a promising WBAN technology, utilizing the human body itself as a transmission channel. This paper presents a novel BCC transceiver designed for efficiency and miniaturization. The proposed transceiver prioritizes reliable data transmission with a convolutional encoder. It leverages a simple direct digital synthesizer (DDS) for frequency shift keying (FSK) modulation, minimizing chip area. At the receiver, a Viterbi decoder (VD) ensures accurate data recovery. This design shines in its resource efficiency. It occupies less than 1% of an Artix-7 FPGA, operates at 268.77 MHz with a mere 111 mW power consumption, and achieves a remarkable data rate of 13.78 Mbps. This translates to a hardware efficiency of 44.46 Kbps/slice, surpassing existing transceivers. Moreover, the BCC transceiver exhibits a stellar bit error rate (BER) of over 10-7 under realistic body channel conditions. Overall, this work presents a highly efficient BCC transceiver with significant improvements in chip area, power consumption, and data rate compared to existing designs. Optoelectronic implants have gained increasing attention over the last ten years for their clinical applications, such as optogenetics, photodynamic therapy, and deep‐tissue physiological sensing, which are expected to diagnose and treat a large number of diseases, such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases, visual impairment, and cancer. One of the main challenges for biomedical optoelectronics is to produce a compact, biocompatible system that delivers optical energy into specific tissue regions. While early‐stage devices are initially adopting batteries or wired solutions for energy supply, recent development has shifted toward wireless devices based on alternative methods, such as wireless power transmission, kinetic energy, and photovoltaic harvesting, which do not normally require periodic replacement or servicing and do not constrain the movement of the patient. In this paper, the principles of the main biomedical applications of implantable optoelectronic devices are reviewed. Recent developments in wireless implantable optoelectronic devices are summarized and sorted by their energy transfer mechanisms. These energy transfer techniques are compared in terms of quantitative parameters (electrical power, optical power, operating frequency, size, weight, and operating range), application fields where they are tested, and main advantages and limitations. Experiments measuring evoked potentials require flexible and rapid adjustment of stimulation and recording parameters. In this study, we have developed a recording system and an associated Android application that allow making such adjustments wirelessly. The system consists of 3 units: for stimulation, recording and control. Most of the modules in this system are custom made, although the stimulator and tablet are off-the-shelf products. When installed on the tablet, our Android application allows wireless communication with the control unit from a distance of 5 m. In testing, the recording unit had low internal noise and displayed signals faithfully. Upon receiving commands from the control unit, the stimulation unit produced precisely timed pulse outputs. Using this system, we were able to record evoked field potentials in the dentate gyrus of a rat; responses increased as expected with increasing stimulation pulse amplitude and duration. The Internet of Things (IoT) and blockchain are emerging technologies that have attracted attention in many industries, including healthcare, automotive, and supply chain. IoT networks and devices are typically low-powered and susceptible to cyber intrusions. However, blockchains hold considerable potential for securing low-power IoT networks. Blockchain networks provide security features such as encryption, decentralisation, time stamps, and ledger functions. The integration of blockchain and IoT technologies may address many of the security concerns. However, integrating blockchain with IoT raises several issues, including the security vulnerabilities and anomalies of blockchain-based IoT networks. In this paper, we report on our experiments using our blockchain test bed to demonstrate that blockchains on IoT platforms are vulnerable to DDoS attacks, which can also potentially lead to device hardware failures. We show that a number of anomalies are visible during either a DDoS attack or IoT device failure. In particular, the temperature of IoT hardware devices can exceed 90 °C during a DDoS attack, which could lead to hardware failure and potential fire hazards. We also found that the Block Transaction Rate (BTR) and network block loss percentage can increase due to corrupted hardware, with the BTR dropping to nearly zero blocks/sec and a block loss percentage of over 50 percent for all evaluated blockchains, and as high as 81.3 percent in one case. Our experiments demonstrate that anomalous temperature, latency, bandwidth, BTR, and network block loss percentage can potentially be used to identify DDoS attacks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper examines the quantitative and qualitative situation of the current fixed and mobile Internet and its expected future. It provides a detailed insight into the past, present, and future of the Internet along with the development of technology and the problems that have arisen in accessing and using broadband Internet. First, the number of users and penetration rate of the Internet, the various types of services in different countries, the ranking of countries in terms of the mean and median download and upload Internet data speeds, Internet data volume, and number and location of data centers in the world are presented. The second task introduces and details twelve performance evaluation metrics for broadband Internet access. Third, different wired and wireless Internet technologies are introduced and compared based on data rate, coverage, type of infrastructure, and their advantages and disadvantages. Based on the technical and functional criteria, in the fourth work, two popular wired and wireless Internet platforms, one based on optical fiber and the other based on the 5G cellular network, are compared in the world in general and Australia in particular. Moreover, this paper has a look at Starlink as the latest satellite Internet candidate, especially for rural and remote areas. The fifth task outlines the latest technologies and emerging broadband Internet-based services and applications in the spotlight. Sixthly, it focuses on three problems in the future Internet in the world, namely the digital divide due to the different qualities of available Internet and new Internet-based services and applications of emerging technologies, the impact of the Internet on social interactions, and hacking and insecurity on the Internet. Gait phase monitoring wearable sensors play a crucial role in assessing both health and athletic performance, offering valuable insights into an individual's gait pattern. In this study, we introduced a simple and cost-effective capacitive gait sensor manufacturing approach, utilizing a micropatterned polydimethylsiloxane dielectric layer placed between screen-printed silver electrodes. The sensor demonstrated inherent stretchability and durability, even when the electrode was bent at a 45-degree angle, it maintained an electrode resistance of approximately 3 Ω. This feature is particularly advantageous for gait monitoring applications. Furthermore, the fabricated flexible capacitive pressure sensor exhibited higher sensitivity and linearity at both low and high pressure and displayed very good stability. Notably, the sensors demonstrated rapid response and recovery times for both under low and high pressure. To further explore the capabilities of these new sensors, they were successfully tested as insole-type pressure sensors for real-time gait signal monitoring. The sensors displayed a well-balanced combination of sensitivity and response time, making them well-suited for gait analysis. Beyond gait analysis, the proposed sensor holds the potential for a wide range of applications within biomedical, sports, and commercial systems where soft and conformable sensors are preferred. The recent tailings storage facility (TSF) dam failures recorded around the world have concerned society in general, forcing the mining industry to improve its operating standards, invest greater economic resources, and implement the best available technologies (BATs) to control TSFs for safety purposes and avoid spills, accidents, and collapses. In this context, and as the era of digitalization and Industry 4.0 continues, monitoring technologies based on sensors have become increasingly common in the mining industry. This article studies the state of the art of implementing sensor technologies to monitor structural health and safety management issues in TSFs, highlighting advances and experiences through a review of the scientific literature on the topic. The methodology applied in this article adheres to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines and utilizes scientific maps for data visualization. To do so, three steps were implemented: (i) a quantitative bibliometric analysis, (ii) a qualitative systematic review of the literature, and (iii) a mixed review to integrate the findings from (i) and (ii). As a result, this article presents the main advances, gaps, and future trends regarding the main characteristics of the sensor technologies applied to monitor TSF structural health and safety management in the era of digitalization. According to the results, the existing research predominantly investigates certain TSF sensor technologies, such as wireless real-time monitoring, remote sensors (RS), unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), unmanned survey vessels (USVs), artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing (CC), and Internet of Things (IoT) approaches, among others. These technologies stand out for their potential to improve the safety management monitoring of mine tailings, which is particularly significant in the context of climate change-related hazards, and to reduce the risk of TSF failures. Digital RF technology has been developed and has been applied to below 6 GHz wireless applications. By replacing the IC die consumptive RF/analog circuit blocks by digital signal processor and circuit, digital rich/small transceivers can be realized. Since the foundation of this technology is based on the Nyquist theory, the operational frequency of the circuit has been limited by the Nyquist frequency (=1/2 of sampling clock frequency). As a result, the maximum operational RF frequency of existing digital RF technology was below 6 GHz. In this paper, a new direct digital RF technology that utilizes the higher‐order Nyquist zones is introduced. This technology enables handling RF signal in beyond Nyquist frequency range which means over 6 GHz range. The results of fabricated 26/28 GHz‐band transmitter/receiver are reviewed. Since the transceiver architecture with the proposed technologies does not require an RF local oscillator and up/down converters, it is suitable for microwave/millimeter‐wave multi‐antenna systems such as next generation satellite on‐board digital beam forming and Beyond 5G fully digital Massive multiple‐input multiple‐output systems.
