We aimed to characterize the prevalence, risk factors, and prognosis of critically ill patients treated in neuro-ICUs.Materials and Methods: In the prospective, multicenter, observational registry study, critically ill patients with intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), and traumatic brain injury (TBI) admitted to eight Chinese neuro-ICUs between Feb 16, 2023, to Apr 30, 2023 were enrolled for the study. Mortality and ICU stay day were used as the primary outcomes.Results: 131 patients were finally included and analyzed (mean age 60.36 years [SD 13.81], 64.12% male, 39.69% SARS-CoV-2 infected). The mortality is higher in the SARS-CoV-2 infection group without statistical signification (7.69% vs 5.06%, p> 0.05). The length of stay (LOS) in neuro-ICUs was significantly longer among the SARS-CoV-2 infection patients (7(1– 12) vs 4(1– 8), p< 0.01), with increased viral pneumonia occurrence (58.54% vs 7.32%, p< 0.01). Ag3Sn intermetallic growth within Sn-Bi-Ag alloys during relatively slow cooling rates has a pronounced effect on the performance and reliability of solder joints. In this study, we combined experimental electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) analysis with first-principles calculations to explore the crystal growth and faceting mechanisms of Ag3Sn intermetallic in solidifying Sn-xBi-1Ag (x = 10, 57 wt.%) alloys. Using EBSD techniques, accommodated for a pseudo-hexagonal setting of Ag3Sn to avoid pseudo-symmetry, and subsequent lattice transformation to an orthorhombic structure (a = 5.97 Å, b = 4.78 Å, c = 5.18 Å, Pmmn), this study reveals predominant (001)orth facets in Sn-10Bi-1Ag, and both (001)orth and more frequent (010)orth facets in Sn-57Bi-1Ag. Stability assessments of various crystal surfaces through first-principles calculations found the (010)orth surface to be most stable, followed by the (001)orth. Variations in stable facets between the two alloys may result from energy minimization influenced by atomic attachment at the liquid/solid interface, dynamic non-equilibrium solidification conditions, Bi concentration, and growth twinning. These findings enhance the understanding of intermetallic compound growth in solder alloys, with implications for solder joint technology improvement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Thermal fatigue is a common failure mode in electronic solder joints, yet the role of microstructure is incompletely understood. Here, we quantify the evolution of microstructure and damage in Sn-3Ag-0.5Cu joints throughout a ball grid array (BGA) package using EBSD mapping of localised subgrains, recrystallisation and heavily coarsened Ag3Sn. We then interpret the results with a multi-scale modelling approach that links from a continuum model at the package/board scale through to a crystal plasticity finite element model at the microstructure scale. We measure and explain the dependence of damage evolution on (i) the β-Sn crystal orientation(s) in single and multigrain joints, and (ii) the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) mismatch between tin grains in cyclic twinned multigrain joints. We further explore the relative importance of the solder microstructure versus the joint location in the array. The results provide a basis for designing optimum solder joint microstructures for thermal fatigue resistance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Traditional optical waveguides or mediums are often silica-based materials, but their applications in biomedicine and healthcare are limited due to the poor biocompatibility and unsuitable mechanical properties. In term of the applications in human body, a biocompatible hydrogel system with excellent optical transparency and mechanical flexibility could be beneficial. In this review, we explore the different designs of hydrogel-based optical waveguides derived from natural and synthetic sources. We highlighted key developments such as light emitting contact lenses, implantable optical fibres, biosensing systems, luminating and fluorescent materials. Finally, we expand further on the challenges and perspectives for hydrogel waveguides to achieve clinical applications.

Abstract Introduction Recent advancements in androgenetic alopecia (AGA) treatment have highlighted the efficacy of botulinum toxin (BoNT). However, inconsistencies in injection sites and depths warrant attention. It remains unclear which injection strategy is most beneficial for patients. Methods This split-scalp randomized controlled trial divided each enrolled participant’s scalp along the midline: one side was randomized to receive intramuscular BoNT injections in the surrounding muscles, while the other side received intradermal BoNT injections directly into the balding areas. This study evaluated the impact of treatment on hair density and diameter through trichoscopic examinations conducted at baseline and 12 weeks post treatment. Additionally, assessments of pain and overall safety were integrated into the study protocol. Abstract Introduction The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy and safety of 15% azelaic acid (AzA) gel in treating acne-induced post-inflammatory erythema (PIE) and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). The effects of 15% AzA gel on acne, skin barrier function, and quality of life were also evaluated. Methods A total of 72 patients with mild to moderate acne were enrolled in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. Patients were divided into two groups: patients in the AzA group applied 15% AzA gel twice daily for 12 weeks, and those in the placebo group applied AzA-free gel. Clinical evaluations using non-invasive skin detection technologies, including VISIA skin analysis, dermoscopy, and skin physiological function tests, were performed at 0, 4, 8, and 12 weeks. Main outcome measures included the post-acne hyperpigmentation index (PAHPI), melanin, hemoglobin, individual typology angle, water content, transepidermal water loss, and sebum. Vacuum induction-melting gas atomization (VIGA) is considered a widely applied method to prepare metal powders. However, the nozzle clogging problem in the VIGA process seriously affects the continuity of production and greatly increases the economic and time costs. In the atomization initial stage, the existence of unsteady state atomization mainly results in the nozzle clogging challenge. To understand the formation mechanism of nozzle clogging, a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model was established to simulate the influence of unsteady state atomization sequence on the primary atomization of alloy melt. Typically, there are two kinds of sequence including starting the gas before pooling the alloy (namely, GA) and pouring the alloy before opening the gas (AG). The movement trajectory of the alloy melt droplet at the end of the delivery-tube was clarified. Based on CFD simulation, the atomization sequence of AG and GA was precisely controlled in the atomization pressure range of 2.5 MPa, 3.5 MPa, and 4.5 MPa to address the nozzle clogging issue. In the GA process, relatively finer powder was obtained at 3.5 MPa without nozzle clogging occurring. In contrast, the AG process greatly reduces the probability of nozzle clogging at 2.5–4.5 MPa, the final prepared powder is coarser. The predicted results of industrial experiments and numerical simulations are consistent. This study provides theoretical support for understanding the formation mechanism of nozzle clogging during the VIGA process.

Energy storage and conservation are receiving increased attention due to rising global energy demands. Therefore, the development of energy storage materials is crucial. Thermal energy storage (TES) systems based on phase change materials (PCMs) have increased in prominence over the past two decades, not only because of their outstanding heat storage capacities but also their superior thermal energy regulation capability. However, issues such as leakage and low thermal conductivity limit their applicability in a variety of settings. Carbon-based materials such as graphene and its derivatives can be utilized to surmount these obstacles. This study examines the recent advancements in graphene-based phase change composites (PCCs), where graphene-based nanostructures such as graphene, graphene oxide (GO), functionalized graphene/GO, and graphene aerogel (GA) are incorporated into PCMs to substantially enhance their shape stability and thermal conductivity that could be translated to better storage capacity, durability, and temperature response, thus boosting their attractiveness for TES systems. In addition, the applications of these graphene-based PCCs in various TES disciplines, such as energy conservation in buildings, solar utilization, and battery thermal management, are discussed and summarized.

Abstract Effective therapeutic strategies for myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury remain elusive. Targeting reactive oxygen species (ROS) provides a practical approach to mitigate myocardial damage following reperfusion. In this study, we synthesize an antioxidant nanozyme, equipped with a single-Platinum (Pt)-atom (PtsaN-C), for protecting against I/R injury. PtsaN-C exhibits multiple enzyme-mimicking activities for ROS scavenging with high efficiency and stability. Mechanistic studies demonstrate that the excellent ROS-elimination performance of the single Pt atom center precedes that of the Pt cluster center, owing to its better synergistic effect and metallic electronic property. Systematic in vitro and in vivo studies confirm that PtsaN-C efficiently counteracts ROS, restores cellular homeostasis and prevents apoptotic progression after I/R injury. PtsaN-C also demonstrates good biocompatibility, making it a promising candidate for clinical applications. Our study expands the scope of single-atom nanozyme in combating ROS-induced damage and offers a promising therapeutic avenue for the treatment of I/R injury.

IntroductionConventional rosacea treatments are not uniformly pervasive, and the adverse reactions can potentially constrain their utility. The clinical use of JAK1 inhibitors upadacitinib and abrocitinib in the treatment of refractory rosacea has rarely been explored.Case reportWe presented two cases of patients who received the JAK1 inhibitor upadacitinib and four cases of patients who received the JAK1 inhibitor abrocitinib for the treatment of refractory rosacea.DiscussionThe JAK1 inhibitors upadacitinib and abrocitinib may be promising medical options for patients with refractory rosacea. However, the long-term safety and efficacy of upadacitinib and abrocitinib require prospective controlled studies to assess them more comprehensively.

BackgroundPathological scars, including keloids and hypertrophic scars, represent a significant dermatological challenge, and emerging evidence suggests a potential role for the gut microbiota in this process.MethodsUtilizing a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) methodology, this study meticulously analyzed data from genome-wide association studies (GWASs) relevant to the gut microbiota, keloids, and hypertrophic scars. The integrity and reliability of the results were rigorously evaluated through sensitivity, heterogeneity, pleiotropy, and directionality analyses.ResultsBy employing inverse variance weighted (IVW) method, our findings revealed a causal influence of five bacterial taxa on keloid formation: class Melainabacteria, class Negativicutes, order Selenomonadales, family XIII, and genus Coprococcus2. Seven gut microbiota have been identified as having causal relationships with hypertrophic scars: class Alphaproteobacteria, family Clostridiaceae1, family Desulfovibrionaceae, genus Eubacterium coprostanoligenes group, genus Eubacterium fissicatena group, genus Erysipelotrichaceae UCG003 and genus Subdoligranulum. Additional sensitivity analyses further validated the robustness of the associations above.ConclusionOverall, our MR analysis supports the hypothesis that gut microbiota is causally linked to pathological scar formation, providing pivotal insights for future mechanistic and clinical research in this domain.

The development of new functional foods that can potentially reduce the risk of diseases, such as osteoporosis, has received increasing attention in recent years. Here we demonstrated that silk sericin-based functional food (SSBF) exerted preventive and therapeutic effects against bone loss. Sericin isolated at 70 °C for 60 min from the cocoon of Bombyx mori stimulated osteoblast differentiation by increasing osteoblastic gene expression while inhibiting receptor activator of nuclear factor-κB ligand (RANKL)-induced osteoclast differentiation in vitro. Micro-computed tomography analysis revealed that pre- and post-oral administration of SSBF increased bone mass in ovariectomized mouse model in vivo. Furthermore, dynamic bone histomorphometry analysis revealed that SSBF enhanced osteoblast activity and suppressed bone resorption by reducing the number of osteoclasts. These findings indicated the potential role of SSBF in preventing and being a therapeutic candidate for osteoporosis.

Abstract Natural evolution has nurtured a series of active molecules that play vital roles in physiological systems, but their further applications have been severely limited by rapid deactivation, short cycle time, and potential toxicity after isolation. For instance, the instability of structures and properties has greatly descended when sanshool is derived from Zanthoxylum xanthoxylum. Herein, natural polyphenols are employed to boost the key properties of sanshool by fabricating a series of nanoparticles (NPs). The intracellular evaluation and in vivo animal model are conducted to demonstrate the decreased photodamage score and skin‐fold thickness of prepared NPs, which can be attributed to the better biocompatibility, improved free radical scavenging, down‐regulated apoptosis ratios, and reduced DNA double‐strand breaks compared to naked sanshool. This work proposes a novel strategy to boost the key properties of naturally occurring active molecules with the assistance of natural polyphenol‐based platforms.

High-speed and precision planting was employed to improve the yields of soybean seeds. However, most mechanical seed metering devices had a lower quality index under high-speed. In this study, a high-speed and precision metering device with gradient-feeding (GF) and control-seed (CS) for soybean planting was designed to improve the quality index at high speeds. GF was designed to make soybean seeds rapidly enter seed cells. CS prevented soybean seed that was to be released from being cleared during the clearing stage. Firstly, the range of working parameters of it was determined by theoretical analysis, which included the angle of guiding-slope (α), the angle of seed-control (θ), and mutation height (∆H). Then, orthogonal center combination tests with three-factor and five-level were carried out to determine the corresponding quality index and miss index with different working parameters. The optimal working parameters were determined by regression equations between the quality index and the miss index. The high-speed and precision metering device with GF and CS was thus manufactured based on these optimal working parameters. The simulation test and bench test of it were carried out with different forward speeds of the planter. The results showed that the optimal angle of guiding-slope (α), angle of seed-control (θ), and mutation height (∆H) were 18.06°, 136.67°, and 2.77 mm, respectively. In the bench test, all quality indices were higher than 95.00%, and all miss indices were lower than 3.00% when the forward speed of the planter was 4 - 16 km/h. The results of the bench test were consistent with the results of the simulation test, with an average relative error of 2.33%. High-speed and precision metering device with gradient-feeding (GF) and control-seed (CS) can realize precision planting at high speeds.

Quercetin is a representative flavonoid that is widely present in fruits, herbs, and vegetables. It is also an important active core component in traditional Chinese medicines. As an important flavonoid, quercetin has various properties and exerts antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and cardioprotective effects. The public interest in quercetin is increasing, and quercetin has been used to prevent or treat numerous of diseases, such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), cancer, autoimmune diseases and chronic cardiovascular diseases, in clinical experiments and animal studies due to its powerful antioxidant properties and minimal side effects. Quercetin exerts marked pharmacological effects on gynecological disorders; however, there have been no reviews about the potential health benefits of quercetin in the context of gynecological disorders, including PCOS, premature ovary failure (POF), endometriosis (EM), ovarian cancer (OC), cervical cancer (CC) and endometrial carcinoma (EC). Thus, this review aimed to summarize the biological effects of quercetin on gynecological disorders and its mechanisms.

BackgroundRosacea, a chronic inflammatory skin condition affecting millions worldwide, is influenced by complex interactions between genetic and environmental factors. Although gut microbiota’s role in skin health is well-acknowledged, definitive causal links between gut microbiota and rosacea remain under-explored.MethodsUsing a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) design, this study examined potential causal relationships between gut microbiota and rosacea. Data was sourced from the largest Genome-Wide Association Study (GWAS) for gut microbiota and the FinnGen biobank for rosacea. A total of 2078 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with gut microbiota were identified and analyzed using a suite of MR techniques to discern causal effects.ResultsThe study identified a protective role against rosacea for two bacterial genera: phylum Actinobacteria and genus Butyrivibrio. Furthermore, 14 gut microbiota taxa were discovered to exert significant causal effects on variant categories of rosacea. While none of these results met the strict False Discovery Rate correction threshold, they retained nominal significance. MR outcomes showed no pleiotropy, with homogeneity observed across selected SNPs. Directionality tests pointed toward a robust causative path from gut microbiota to rosacea.ConclusionThis study provides compelling evidence of the gut microbiota’s nominal causal influence on rosacea, shedding light on the gut-skin axis’s intricacies and offering potential avenues for therapeutic interventions in rosacea management. Further research is warranted to validate these findings and explore their clinical implications.

Abstract Background This study investigated the effects of early‐onset type 2 diabetes (EOD) vs late‐onset type 2 diabetes (LOD) on nonfatal cardiovascular diseases (CVD) in China. Methods We conducted a cross‐sectional survey of 46 239 participants from 14 provinces in China from 2007 to 2008, selecting 4949 participants with type 2 diabetes for analysis. Generalized pustular psoriasis (GPP) is a rare chronic inflammatory pustular dermatosis that presents as painful erythema with sterile pustules on nonacral skin. No unified standard and guideline for the treatment of GPP has been established. Several biologics have been tried for GPP, with varying success. Acrodermatitis continua of Hallopeau (ACH) is a very rare disabling variant of pustular psoriasis characterized by sterile pustules on the fingers and toes, including the nail bed. Comparatively, treating ACH is highly challenging due to its commonly therapy-resistant disease course. The pathogenic role of IL-36 signaling axis has been currently identified in GPP development. Spesolimab, the first anti-interleukin-36 receptor biologic, has been approved for treating GPP flares and shown promising results. In view of a shared pathogenesis between GPP and ACH, specolimab may be an effective treatment for ACH. Currently, there is no case and clinical trial data exist on this condition. Therefore, this case was aim to describe real-world experience of spesolimab use in ACH coexisting with GPP. We report an Asian patient with a 16-year-history of GPP and ACH with marked pustulosis on the nail bed and onychodystrophy. He received conventional systemic regimen acitretin, cyclosporine and biologics adalimumab and secukinumab, but experienced relapse for skin lesions and refractory for nail lesions. He was then treated with a single dose of spesolimab in combination with secukinumab, which resulted in skin clearance and nearly complete resolution of nail lesions over a 32-week period. Our observation suggests that spesolimab should be considered for the treatment of ACH, especially in the patients with intractable nail lesions and concomitant GPP.

As an outstanding visual system for insects and crustaceans to cope with the challenges of survival, compound eye has many unique advantages, such as wide field of view, rapid response, infinite depth of field, low aberration and fast motion capture. However, the complex composition of their optical systems also presents significant challenges for manufacturing. With the continuous development of advanced materials, complex 3D manufacturing technologies and flexible electronic detectors, various ingenious and sophisticated compound eye imaging systems have been developed. This paper provides a comprehensive review on the microfabrication technologies, photoelectric detection and functional applications of miniature artificial compound eyes. Firstly, a brief introduction to the types and structural composition of compound eyes in the natural world is provided. Secondly, the 3D forming manufacturing techniques for miniature compound eyes are discussed. Subsequently, some photodetection technologies for miniature curved compound eye imaging are introduced. Lastly, with reference to the existing prototypes of functional applications for miniature compound eyes, the future development of compound eyes is prospected.

Abstract Polyethylene glycol (PEG) is widely used as phase change materials (PCM) due to their versatile working temperature and high latent heat. However, the low molecular weight of PEG prevents from the formation of flexible microfibers, and the common leakage problem associated with solid–liquid PCM further hinders their applications in various fields. To address these challenges, polyethylene oxide (PEO) is incorporated as the supporting matrix for PEG, leading to a successful electrospinning of fibrous mats. Due to the similar chemical nature of both PEG and PEO, the blended composites show great compatibility and produce uniform electrospun fibers. The thermal properties of these fibers are characterized by DSC and TGA, and supercooling for the PEG(1050) component is effectively reduced by 75–85%. The morphology changes before and after leakage test are analyzed by SEM. Tensile and DMA tests show that the presence of PEG(1050) component contributes to plasticization effect, improving mechanical and thermomechanical strength. The ratio of PEO(600K):PEG(1050) at 7:3 affords the optimal performance with good chemical and form‐stability, least shrinkage, and uniformity. These fibrous mats have potential applications in areas of food packaging, flexible wearable devices, or textiles to aid in thermal regulation.

Abstract Vitrimers are an innovative class of polymers that boast a remarkable fusion of mechanical and dynamic features, complemented by the added benefit of end‐of‐life recyclability. This extraordinary blend of properties makes them highly attractive for a variety of applications, such as the automotive sector, soft robotics, and the aerospace industry. At their core, vitrimer materials consist of crosslinked covalent networks that have the ability to dynamically reorganize in response to external factors, including temperature changes, pressure variations, or shifts in pH levels. In this review, the aim is to delve into the latest advancements in the theoretical understanding and computational design of vitrimers. The review begins by offering an overview of the fundamental principles that underlie the behavior of these materials, encompassing their structures, dynamic behavior, and reaction mechanisms. Subsequently, recent progress in the computational design of vitrimers is explored, with a focus on the employment of molecular dynamics (MD)/Monte Carlo (MC) simulations and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Last, the existing challenges and prospective directions for this field are critically analyzed, emphasizing the necessity for additional theoretical and computational advancements, coupled with experimental validation.

Ketamine, initially developed as an anesthetic, has shown versatility in medical applications, including pain management, treatment-resistant depression, and sedation in the intensive care unit (ICU). While generally well-tolerated, long-term use at high doses raises concerns about potential toxicities, particularly in the liver. We present a case of a 27-year-old female with a complex medical history who received ketamine infusion for ICU sedation and experienced a sudden rise in liver function tests (LFTs), indicating possible ketamine-induced liver injury (KILI). The patient’s liver function normalized after ketamine discontinuation. KILI is infrequent with short-term ketamine use, but emerging case reports suggest it may be associated with chronic or intermittent exposure. The underlying mechanisms for KILI are not fully understood but may involve the accumulation of ketamine metabolites, causing direct toxic effects on the liver. As ketamine’s use expands, especially in critical care settings, clinicians should be vigilant for the potential development of KILI. Further research is needed to better understand its risk factors and mechanisms, as early detection and management of KILI are crucial to ensuring patient safety and optimizing ketamine’s therapeutic benefits.

Zanthoxylum bungeanum Maxim., commonly known as Chinese prickly ash, is a well-known spice and traditional Chinese medicine ingredient with a rich history of use in treating inflammatory conditions. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the botanical classification, traditional applications, and anti-inflammatory effects of Z. bungeanum, with a specific focus on its polyphenolic components. These polyphenols have exhibited considerable promise, as evidenced by preclinical studies in animal models, suggesting their therapeutic potential in human inflammatory diseases such as ulcerative colitis, arthritis, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cardiovascular disease, and neurodegenerative conditions. This positions them as a promising class of natural compounds with the potential to enhance human well-being. However, further research is necessary to fully elucidate their mechanisms of action and develop safe and effective therapeutic applications.

Monitoring the annual variation of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in livestock wastewater is important for determining the high-risk period of transfer and spread of animal-derived antibiotic resistance into the environment. However, the knowledge regarding the variation patterns of ARGs, especially intracellular ARGs (iARGs) and extracellular ARGs (eARGs), over time in livestock wastewater is still unclear. Herein, we conducted a year-round study to trace the profiles of ARGs at a Chinese-intensive dairy farm, focusing on the shifts observed in different months. The results showed significant differences in the composition and variation between iARGs and eARGs. Tetracycline, sulfonamide, and macrolide resistance genes were the major types of iARGs, while cfr was the major type of eARG. The environmental adaptations of the host bacteria determine whether ARGs appear as intracellular or extracellular forms. The total abundance of ARGs was higher from April to September, which can be attributed to the favorable climatic conditions for bacterial colonization and increased antibiotic administration during this period. Integron was found to be highly correlated with most iARGs, potentially playing a role in the presence of these genes within cells and their similar transmission patterns in wastewater. The intracellular and extracellular bacterial communities were significantly different, primarily because of variations in bacterial adaptability to the high salt and anaerobic environment. The intracellular co-occurrence network indicated that some dominant genera in wastewater, such as Turicibacter, Clostridium IV, Cloacibacillus, Subdivision5_genera_incertae_sedis, Saccharibacteria_genera_incertae_sedis and Halomonas, were potential hosts for many ARGs. To the best of our knowledge, this study demonstrates, for the first time, the annual variation of ARGs at critical points in the reuse of dairy farm wastewater. It also offers valuable insights into the prevention and control of ARGs derived from animals.

Freeze–thaw cycles (FTCs) occur during the nongrowing season, and residual nitrogen (N) increases the risk of N loss with melting water. To study the effect of FTCs on soil N, rice fields in improved irrigated saline soil in northeast China were selected as the research subjects. Water content (10%, 20%, and 30%), different N fertilizer levels (180 and 220 kg/ha), and multiple FTCs of soil samples were used to clarify the effects of N fertilizer application and water content on N efficiency. The results indicate that, after the third FTC, the soil ammonium nitrogen (NH4+-N) level increased significantly. NH4+-N increased with an increase in the initial soil moisture content and decreased with fertilizer levels. Nitrate nitrogen (NO3−-N) decreases with increasing initial soil moisture. The inorganic N increased significantly compared with that in the unfrozen stage, indicating that FTCs promote soil N mineralization. However, high fertilization rates inhibit mineralization. Analysis of variance showed that NO3−-N is sensitive to the N application rate, water content, and salinity (p < 0.05). FTCs and artificial fertilization are the factors that affect N mineralization (p < 0.05). The research results are significant for preventing nitrate leaching and soil acidification during spring plowing and providing a scientific basis for fertilization systems and water environment pollution in improved saline soils.

The investigation of conductive silver pastes and inks has witnessed extensive research within the domain of printed electronics in recent years, primarily owing to the exceptional electrical conductivity and steadfastness intrinsic to silver. This paper introduces an approach for the fabrication of stable, cost-effective, and low-resistance conductive silver paste tailored for flexible printed circuits. This method facilitates the solidification of the conductive silver paste into a highly conductive silver film at a curing temperature of 250 °C. In the process of preparing the conductive silver paste, Ag flakes is subject to modification through the incorporation of Ag NPs, which are subsequently sintered at a low temperature curing setting. The sintering of Ag NPs serves to establish connections between adjacent particles of Ag flakes within the paste, thereby enhancing the conductivity and flexibility of the resulting conductive printed silver film. When the ratio of Ag NPs to Ag flakes is maintained at 10:90, the volume resistivity of the Ag NPs-modified film registers at 2.7 × 10 ^−5 Ω.cm. This demonstrates a substantial 53.45% reduction in the volume resistivity of the conductive printed silver film modified with Ag NPs, compared to its Ag NPs-absent counterpart. Post 200 cyclic bending tests, it becomes evident that the resistance change rate in the Ag NPs-modified conductive printed silver film is a mere 12.5%, whereas the Ag NPs-modified silver film lacking Ag NPs displays a resistance change rate of 21.5%. This discrepancy underscores the capacity of Ag NPs-modified Ag flakes to fortify the bending resistance of the conductive printed silver film. Comprehensive data analysis substantiates that the improvements in electrical conductivity and bending resistance can be attributed to the superior bridging facilitated by the sintering process on the surface of the Ag NPs-modified Ag flakes.

Background: The HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STI) excluding HIV among the elderly population urgently require more attention and in-depth study. We aimed to present and predict the worldwide of its burden from 1990 to 2030 using data from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study., Methods: Leveraging the 2019 GBD study, we investigated the average annual percentage change (AAPC) of HIV and other STI in incidence, prevalence, disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), and mortality rates for individuals aged 50-69 across different age groups, genders, sociodemographic index (SDI) regions, and nations. The incidence of STI in the population from 2020 to 2030 was explored by Bayesian age-period-cohort (BAPC) prediction model., Results: The HIV incidence rate experienced its fastest growth 1990-1992, peaked in 1996, and gradually declined thereafter, with the 2019 rate being lower than that of 1990. The prevalence rate didn't present a sharp turning point. After 2006, its growth rate accelerated. Both DALYs and mortality rates plateaued high between 2002 and 2005, followed by a decline. The decline was steepest from 2005-2012, yet the rate of decrease slowed noticeably from 2012-2019.When segmented by age, HIV was more prevalent among those aged 55-59 and 50-54, with the 50-54 age group witnessing the fastest decline in incidence rates. However, the fastest growth in prevalence rates was seen among the 60-64 and 65-69 age groups. The other STI incidence rate declined from 1990-1996, increased up to 2006, declined until 2015, and then saw a resurgence with accelerated growth thereafter. The prevalence rate showcased varied trends, with a notable increase in the past five years. The highest growth in incidence rate was among the 65-69 age group. We predict that the incidence rate of STI will increase in the future., Conclusions: Overall, despite the evident decline in incidence, mortality rates, and DALYs, the prevalence of HIV and other STI among the elderly is rising, and both demonstrated significant trend variations across different ages, genders, SDI regions, and nations. The strategic integration of low-dimensional InAs-based materials and emerging van der Waals systems is advancing in various scientific fields, including electronics, optics, and magnetics. With their unique properties, these InAs-based van der Waals materials and devices promise further miniaturization of semiconductor devices in line with Moore's Law. However, progress in this area lags behind other 2D materials like graphene and boron nitride. Challenges include synthesizing pure crystalline phase InAs nanostructures and single-atomic-layer 2D InAs films, both vital for advanced van der Waals heterostructures. Also, diverse surface state effects on InAs-based van der Waals devices complicate their performance evaluation. This review discusses the experimental advances in the van der Waals epitaxy of InAs-based materials and the working principles of InAs-based van der Waals devices. Theoretical achievements in understanding and guiding the design of InAs-based van der Waals systems are highlighted. Focusing on advancing novel selective area growth and remote epitaxy, exploring multi-functional applications, and incorporating deep learning into first-principles calculations are proposed. Purpose: To evaluate nnU-net's performance in automatically segmenting and volumetrically measuring ocular adnexal lymphoma (OAL) on multi-sequence MRI., Methods: We collected T1-weighted (T1), T2-weighted and T1-weighted contrast-enhanced images with/without fat saturation (T2&#95;FS/T2&#95;nFS, T1c&#95;FS/T1c&#95;nFS) of OAL from four institutions. Two radiologists manually annotated lesions as the ground truth using ITK-SNAP. A deep learning framework, nnU-net, was developed and trained using two models. Model 1 was trained on T1, T2, and T1c, while Model 2 was trained exclusively on T1 and T2. A 5-fold cross-validation was utilized in the training process. Segmentation performance was evaluated using the Dice similarity coefficient (DSC), sensitivity, and positive prediction value (PPV). Volumetric assessment was performed using Bland-Altman plots and Lin's concordance correlation coefficient (CCC)., Results: A total of 147 patients from one center were selected as training set and 33 patients from three centers were regarded as test set. For both Model 1 and 2, nnU-net demonstrated outstanding segmentation performance on T2&#95;FS with DSC of 0.80-0.82, PPV of 84.5-86.1%, and sensitivity of 77.6-81.2%, respectively. Model 2 failed to detect 19 cases of T1c, whereas the DSC, PPV, and sensitivity for T1&#95;nFS were 0.59, 91.2%, and 51.4%, respectively. Bland-Altman plots revealed minor tumor volume differences with 0.22-1.24 cm 3 between nnU-net prediction and ground truth on T2&#95;FS. The CCC were 0.96 and 0.93 in Model 1 and 2 for T2&#95;FS images, respectively., Conclusion: The nnU-net offered excellent performance in automated segmentation and volumetric assessment in MRI of OAL, particularly on T2&#95;FS images., (© 2024. Background: Somatic mutations have been observed to induce aldosterone-producing adenomas (APAs). These may be accelerated during pregnancy. Somatic PRKACA mutations are common in cortisol-producing adenomas (CPAs). However, their role in APAs, particularly aldosterone- and cortisol-producing adenomas (A/CPAs), is not well understood. This study aims to investigate the association between PRKACA mutations and the accelerated development of A/CPAs during pregnancy., Case Presentation: A patient with primary aldosteronism (PA) associated with severe Cushing's syndrome (CS) underwent surgical resection of an adrenal tumor one year after delivery. Pathologic examination revealed an adrenocortical adenoma characterized primarily by zona glomerulosa hyperplasia. Somatic mutation analysis revealed the presence of the somatic PRKACA mutation, which was validated as a deleterious mutation by various computational databases. Immunohistochemical results showed positive staining for cytochrome P450 family 11 subfamily B member 1 (CYP11B1), cytochrome P450 family 11 subfamily B member 2 (CYP11B2), and luteinizing hormone/chorionic gonadotropin receptor (LHCGR). Our study included a review of 20 previously documented cases of aldosterone- and cortisol-producing adenomas (A/CPAs), two of which were concurrently positive for both CYP11B1 and CYP11B2, consistent with our findings., Conclusion: Somatic mutations in PRKACA may correlate with the upregulation of LHCGR, which synergistically drives the accelerated growth of co-secretion tumors during pregnancy, thereby exacerbating disease progression., (© 2024. Exosomes are nanoscale vesicles of cellular origin. One of the main characteristics of exosomes is their ability to carry a wide range of biomolecules from their parental cells, which are important mediators of intercellular communication and play an important role in physiological and pathological processes. Exosomes have the advantages of biocompatibility, low immunogenicity, and wide biodistribution. As researchers' understanding of exosomes has increased, various strategies have been proposed for their use in diagnosing and treating diseases. Here, we provide an overview of the biogenesis and composition of exosomes, describe the relationship between exosomes and disease progression, and focus on the use of exosomes as biomarkers for early screening, disease monitoring, and guiding therapy in refractory diseases such as tumors and neurodegenerative diseases. We also summarize the current applications of exosomes, especially engineered exosomes, for efficient drug delivery, targeted therapies, gene therapies, and immune vaccines. Finally, the current challenges and potential research directions for the clinical application of exosomes are also discussed. Purpose: An early genetic diagnosis can guide the time-sensitive treatment of individuals with genetic epilepsies. However, most genetic diagnoses occur long after disease onset. We aimed to identify early clinical features suggestive of genetic diagnoses in individuals with epilepsy through large-scale analysis of full-text electronic medical records (EMR)., Methods: We extracted 89 million time-stamped standardized clinical annotations using Natural Language Processing from 4,572,783 clinical notes from 32,112 individuals with childhood epilepsy, including 1,925 individuals with known or presumed genetic epilepsies. We applied these features to train random forest models to predict SCN1A-related disorders and any genetic diagnosis., Results: We identified 47,774 age-dependent associations of clinical features with genetic etiologies a median of 3.6 years prior to molecular diagnosis. Across all 710 genetic etiologies identified in our cohort, neurodevelopmental differences between 6-9 months increased the likelihood of a later molecular diagnosis fivefold (P<0.0001, 95% CI=3.55-7.42). A later diagnosis of SCN1A-related disorders (AUC=0.91) or an overall positive genetic diagnosis (AUC=0.82) could be reliably predicted using random forest models., Conclusion: Clinical features predictive of genetic epilepsies precede molecular diagnoses by up to several years in conditions with known precision treatments. Delafloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic to treat skin infections, exhibits a broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity. The first randomized, open-label phase I clinical trial was conducted to assess the safety and pharmacokinetics (PK) of intravenous delafloxacin in the Chinese population. A population pharmacokinetic (PopPK) model based on the clinical trial was conducted by NONMEM software. Monte Carlo simulation was performed to evaluate the antibacterial effects of delafloxacin at different doses in different Chinese populations. The PK characteristics of delafloxacin were best described by a three-compartment model with mixed linear and nonlinear clearance. Body weight was included as a covariate in the model. We simulated the AUC 0-24h in a steady state at five doses in patient groups of various weights. The results indicated that for patients weighing 70 kg and treated with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections, a minimum dose of 300 mg achieved a PTA > 90% at MIC 90 of 0.25 µg/mL, suggesting an ideal bactericidal effect. For patients weighing less than 60 kg, a dose of 200 mg achieved a PTA > 90% at MIC 90 of 0.25 µg/mL, also suggesting an ideal bactericidal effect. Additionally, this trial demonstrated the high safety of delafloxacin in single-dose and multiple-dose groups of Chinese. Delafloxacin (300 mg, q12h, iv) was recommended for achieving optimal efficacy in Chinese bacterial skin infections patients. Study Design: Diagnostics., Objectives: Based on deep learning semantic segmentation model, we sought to assess pelvic tilt by area ratio of the lesser pelvic and the obturator foramen in anteroposterior (AP) radiographs., Background: Pelvic tilt is a critical factor in hip and spinal surgery, commonly evaluated by medical professionals through sagittal pelvic radiographs. The inherent pelvic asymmetry, as well as potential obstructions from clothing and musculature in roentgenography, may result in ghosting and blurring artifacts, thereby complicating precise measurement., Methods: PT directly affects the area ratio of the lesser pelvis to the obturator foramen in AP radiographs. An exponential regression analysis of simulated radiographs from ten male and ten female pelvises in specific tilt positions derived a formula correlating this area ratio with PT. Two blinded investigators evaluated this formula using 161 simulated AP pelvic radiographs. A deep learning semantic segmentation model was then fine-tuned to automatically calculate the area ratio, enabling intelligent PT evaluation. This model and the regression function were integrated for automated PT measurement and tested on a dataset of 231 clinical cases., Results: We observed no disparity between males and females in the aforementioned area ratio. The test results from two blinded investigators analyzing 161 simulated radiographs revealed a mean absolute error of 0.19° (SD±4.71°), with a correlation coefficient between them reaching 0.96. Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a clinicopathological condition characterized by intrahepatic ectopic steatosis. Due to the increase in high-calorie diets and sedentary lifestyles, NAFLD has surpassed viral hepatitis and become the most prevalent chronic liver disease globally. Silibinin, a natural compound, has shown promising therapeutic potential for the treatment of liver diseases. Nevertheless, the ameliorative effects of silibinin on NAFLD have not been completely understood, and the underlying mechanism is elusive. Therefore, in this study, we used high-fat diet (HFD)-induced mice and free fatty acid (FFA)-stimulated HepG2 cells to investigate the efficacy of silibinin for the treatment of NAFLD and elucidate the underlying mechanisms. In vivo , silibinin showed significant efficacy in inhibiting adiposity, improving lipid profile levels, ameliorating hepatic histological aberrations, healing the intestinal epithelium, and restoring gut microbiota compositions. Furthermore, in vitro , silibinin effectively inhibited FFA-induced lipid accumulation in HepG2 cells. Mechanistically, we reveal that silibinin possesses the ability to ameliorate hepatic lipotoxicity by suppressing the heat shock protein 90 (Hsp90)/peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor- γ (PPAR γ ) pathway and alleviating gut dysfunction by inhibiting the Hsp90/NOD-like receptor pyrin domain-containing 3 (NLRP3) pathway. Background: To date, an effective means to preoperatively predict the malignant transformation of sinonasal inverted papilloma (SIP) remains lacking due to similarities in clinical appearance. This study aimed to retrospectively evaluate dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) parameters and microvessel structure in tumors with histologically confirmed SIP and inverted papilloma-associated squamous cell carcinoma (IP-SCC), as well as correlate DCE-MRI findings with angiogenesis biomarkers., Methods: Absolute quantitative DCE-MRI parameters (K trans , K ep , V e ) based on the Tofts model and model-free semi-quantitative indices (T peak , WR, MaxSlope) of SIP (n = 22) and IP-SCC (n = 20) were investigated. Regions of interest (ROIs) were oriented according to the tumor subsites in the surgical records. Micro-vessel density (MVD) counts and tight junction protein (claudin-5) expression were evaluated in tumor specimens obtained during surgery. Differences in the above data were compared between the two groups. Correlations between DCE-MRI parameters and angiogenic biomarkers were analyzed., Results: Compared with SIP specimens, IP-SCC specimens were characterized by a significantly higher MVD and a leakier microvessel barrier. The values of T peak and V e were significantly higher for SIP than those for IP-SCC, whereas WR, MaxSlope, and K ep were significantly lower, indicating early enhancement and a faster dispersion model in IP-SCC. MVD was positively correlated with WR and K ep and negatively correlated with T peak . T peak was slightly positively correlated to claudin-5 expression., Conclusion: DCE-MRI can serve as a noninvasive biomarker of angiogenesis in the malignant transformation from SIP to IP-SCC. Hepatocellular carcinoma is a refractory tumor with poor prognosis and high mortality. Many oncolytic viruses are currently being investigated for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma. Based on previous studies, we constructed a recombinant GM-CSF-carrying Sindbis virus, named SINV-GM-CSF, which contains a mutation (G to S) at amino acid 285 in the nsp1 protein of the viral vector. The potential of this mutated vector for liver cancer therapy was verified at the cellular level and in vivo, respectively, and the changes in the tumor microenvironment after treatment were also described. The results showed that the Sindbis virus could effectively infect hepatocellular carcinoma cell lines and induce cell death. Furthermore, the addition of GM-CSF enhanced the tumor-killing effect of the Sindbis virus and increased the number of immune cells in the intra-tumor microenvironment during the treatment. In particular, SINV-GM-CSF was able to efficiently kill tumors in a mouse tumor model of hepatocellular carcinoma by regulating the elevation of M1-type macrophages (which have a tumor-resistant ability) and the decrease in M2-type macrophages (which have a tumor-promoting capacity). Overall, SINV-GM-CSF is an attractive vector platform with clinical potential for use as a safe and effective oncolytic virus.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Gastrodia elata Blume is a traditional Chinese medicine with the effects of improving the deficiency of the body and maintaining health, and polysaccharide (GEP) is one of the effective ingredients to play these activities of G. elata. Traditionally, G. elata is orally administered, so the activities of GEP are associated with digestive and intestinal metabolism. However, the digestive behavior of GEP and its effects on the human gut microbiota are unclear and need to be fully studied., Aim of the Study: This study aimed to investigate the changes in structural characteristics of GEP during digestion and the related impacts of its digestive product on gut microbiota in human fecal fermentation, and to explain the beneficial mechanism of GEP on human health from the perspective of digestive characteristics and "gut" axis., Materials and Methods: The changes of reducing sugars, free monosaccharides and physicochemical properties of GEP during digestion were investigated by GPC, HPLC, FT-IR, CD, NMR, SEM, and TGA. Moreover, polysaccharide consumption, pH value changes, SCFAs production, and changes in gut microbiota during fermentation were also discussed., Results: During digestion of GEP, glucose was partially released causing a decrease in molecular weight, and a change in monosaccharide composition. In addition, the characteristics of GEP before and after digestion, including configuration, morphology, and stability, were different. The digestive product of GEP was polysaccharide (GEP-I), which actively participated in the fecal fermentation process. As the fermentation time increased, the utilization of GEP-I by the microbiota gradually increased. The abundance of probiotics such as Bifidobacterium, Collinsella, Prevotella, and Faecalibacterium was significantly increased, and the abundance of pathogenic Shigella, Dorea, Desulfovibrio, and Blautia was significantly inhibited, thereby suggesting that GEP has the potential to maintain human health through the "gut" axis. In addition, the beneficial health effects of GEP-I have also been observed in the influence of microbial metabolites. Rationale and Objectives: To develop and validate a radiogenomics model integrating clinical data, radiomics-based machine learning (RBML) classifiers, and transcriptomics data for predicting the response to induction chemotherapy (IC) in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC)., Materials and Methods: Radiomics features derived from T2-weighted, pre- and post-contrast-enhanced T1-weighted MRI sequences, clinical data, and RNA sequencing data of 150 patients with HNSCC were included in the study. Analysis of variance or recursive feature elimination was used to reduce radiomics features. Three RBML classifiers were developed to distinguish non-responders from responders. Weighted correlation network analysis (WGCNA) was performed to identify the correlation between clinical data or radiomics features and molecular features; subsequently, protein interaction and functional enrichment analyses were performed. The predictive performance of the radiogenomics model integrating significant clinical variables, RBML classifiers, and molecular features was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic curve analysis., Results: Five radiomics features and two conventional MRI findings significantly stratified HNSCC patients into responders and non-responders. On WGCNA analysis, 809 genes showed a significant correlation with two radiomics features. Functional enrichment analysis suggested that our proposed radiomics features could reflect the T cell-mediated immune response and immune infiltration of HNSCC. Genome-wide association studies of brain imaging phenotypes are mainly performed in European populations, but other populations are severely under-represented. Here, we conducted Chinese-alone and cross-ancestry genome-wide association studies of 3,414 brain imaging phenotypes in 7,058 Chinese Han and 33,224 white British participants. We identified 38 new associations in Chinese-alone analyses and 486 additional new associations in cross-ancestry meta-analyses at P < 1.46 × 10 -11 for discovery and P < 0.05 for replication. We pooled significant autosomal associations identified by single- or cross-ancestry analyses into 6,443 independent associations, which showed uneven distribution in the genome and the phenotype subgroups. We further divided them into 44 associations with different effect sizes and 3,557 associations with similar effect sizes between ancestries. Loci of these associations were shared with 15 brain-related non-imaging traits including cognition and neuropsychiatric disorders. Our results provide a valuable catalog of genetic associations for brain imaging phenotypes in more diverse populations., (© 2024. Purpose: This study aimed to develop a multisequence MRI-based volumetric histogram metrics model for predicting pathological complete response (pCR) in advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) patients undergoing neoadjuvant chemo-immunotherapy (NCIT) and compare its predictive performance with AJCC staging and RECIST 1.1 criteria., Methods: Twenty-four patients with locally advanced HNSCC from a prospective phase II trial were enrolled for analysis. All patients underwent pre- and post-NCIT MRI examinations from which whole-tumor histogram features were extracted, including T1WI, T2WI, enhanced T1WI (T1Gd), diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) sequences, and their corresponding apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) maps. The pathological results divided the patients into pathological complete response (pCR) and non-pCR (N-pCR) groups. Delta features were calculated as the percentage change in histogram features from pre- to post-treatment. After data reduction and feature selection, logistic regression was used to build prediction models. ROC analysis was performed to assess the diagnostic performance., Results: Eleven of 24 patients achieved pCR. Pre&#95;T2&#95;original&#95;firstorder&#95;Minimum, Post&#95;ADC&#95;original&#95;firstorder&#95;MeanAbsoluteDeviation, and Delta&#95;T1Gd&#95;original&#95;firstorder&#95;Skewness were associated with achieving pCR after NCIT. The Combined&#95;Model demonstrated the best predictive performance (AUC 0.95), outperforming AJCC staging (AUC 0.52) and RECIST 1.1 (AUC 0.72). The Pre&#95;Model (AUC 0.83) or Post-Model (AUC 0.83) had a better predictive ability than AJCC staging., Conclusion: Multisequence MRI-based volumetric histogram analysis can non-invasively predict the pCR status of HNSCC patients undergoing NCIT. The use of histogram features extracted from pre- and post-treatment MRI exhibits promising predictive performance and offers a novel quantitative assessment method for evaluating pCR in HNSCC patients receiving NCIT., (© 2024. Hydrogels hold great promise as electrolytes for emerging aqueous batteries, for which establishing a robust electrode-hydrogel interface is crucial for mitigating side reactions. Conventional hydrogel electrolytes fabricated by ex situ polymerization through either thermal stimulation or photo exposure cannot ensure complete interfacial contact with electrodes. Herein, we introduce an in situ electropolymerization approach for constructing hydrogel electrolytes. The hydrogel is spontaneously generated during the initial cycling of the battery, eliminating the need of additional initiators for polymerization. The involvement of electrodes during the hydrogel synthesis yields well-bonded and deep infiltrated electrode-electrolyte interfaces. As a case study, we attest that, the in situ-formed polyanionic hydrogel in Zn-MnO 2 battery substantially improves the stability and kinetics of both Zn anode and porous MnO 2 cathode owing to the robust interfaces. The quality of beef is usually predicted by measuring a single index rather than a comprehensive index. To precisely determine the essential amino acid (EAA) contents in 360 beef samples, the feasibility of optimized spectral detection techniques based on the comprehensive EAA index (CEI) and comprehensive weight index (CWI) constructed by factor analysis was explored. Two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy (2D-COS) was used to analyse the mechanisms of spectral peak shifts in complex disturbance systems with CEI and CWI contents, and 15 sensitive feature variables were extracted to establish a quantitative analysis model of a long short-term memory network (LSTM). The results indicated that 2D-COS had good predictive performance in both CEI-LSTM (R 2 P of 0.9095 and RPD of 2.76) and CWI-LSTM (R 2 P of 0.8449 and RPD of 2.45), which reduced data information by 88%. This indicates that utilizing 2D-COS can eliminate collinearity and redundant information among variables while achieving data dimensionality reduction and simplification of calibration models. Furthermore, a spatial distribution map of the comprehensive EAA content was generated by combining the optimal prediction model. Background: Anxiety disorders can cause serious physical and psychological damage, so many anxiety scales have been developed internationally to measure anxiety disorders, but due to the cultural differences and cultural dependence of quality of life between Chinese and Western cultures, it is difficult to reflect the main characteristics of Chinese patients. Therefore, we developed a scale suitable for Chinese patients with anxiety disorders: the Anxiety Disorders Scale of the Quality of Life Instruments for Chronic Diseases (QLICD-AD), hoping to achieve satisfactory QOL assessments for anxiety disorders., Objectives: Items from the Anxiety Disorders Scale of the Quality of Life in Chronic Disease Instrument QLICD-AD system were analyzed using CTT and IRT to lay the groundwork for further refinement of the scale to accurately measure anxiety disorders., Methods: 120 patients with anxiety disorder were assessed using the QLICD-AD (V2.0). Descriptive statistics, variability method, correlation coefficient method, factor analysis and Cronbach's coefficient of CTT, and graded response model (GRM) of item response theory were used to analyze the items of the scale., Result: CTT analysis showed that the standard deviation of each item was between 0.928 and 1.466; Pearson correlation coefficients of item-to-domain were generally greater than 0.5 and also greater than that of item-to-other domain; the Cronbach 's of the total scale was 0.931, α of each domain was between 0.706 and 0.865. IRT analysis showed that the discrimination was between 1.14 and 1.44. The difficulty parameter of all items increased with the increase of grade. But some items (GPH6,GPH8,GPS3,GSO2-GSO4,AD2,AD5) difficulty parameters were less than 4 or greater than 4. The average of information amount was between 0.022 and 0.910., Conclusion: Based on CTT and IRT analysis, most items of the QLICD-AD (V2.0) scale have good performance and good differentiation, but a few items still need further revision. Suggests that the QLICD-AD (V2.0) appears to be a valid measure of anxiety disorders. It may effectively improve the diagnosticity of anxiety disorders, but due to the limitations of the current sample, further validation is needed in a broader population extrapolation trial., (© 2024. Citrus canker, a highly contagious bacterial disease caused by Xanthomonas citri subsp. citri ( Xcc ), poses a substantial threat to citrus crops, leading to serious reductions in fruit yield and economic losses. Most commonly used bactericides against Xcc lead to the rapid development of resistant subpopulations. Therefore, it is imperative to create novel drugs, such as type III secretion system (T3SS) inhibitors, that specifically target bacterial virulence factors rather than bacterial viability. In our study, we designed and synthesized a series of mandelic acid derivatives including 2-mercapto-1,3,4-thiazole. Seven substances were found to reduce the level of transcription of hpa1 without affecting bacterial viability. In vivo bioassays indicated that compound F9 significantly inhibited hypersensitive response and pathogenicity. RT-qPCR assays showed that compound F9 visibly suppressed the expression of Xcc T3SS-related genes as well as citrus canker susceptibility gene CsLOB1 . Furthermore, the combination with compound F9 and quorum-quenching bacteria HN-8 can also obviously alleviate canker symptoms.

Background: This study aims to explore the effect of nutritional impact symptoms (NIS) on oral nutritional supplements (ONS) energy intake and use days among head and neck cancer (HNC) patients., Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among HNC patients in a hospital in western China between January 2019 and June 2020. The NIS was from the Patient-Generated Subjective Global Assessment (PG-SGA) scale. Mann-Whitney test was used to examine the differences between different kinds of NIS and ONS use days. Binary logistic regression was used to determine the effect of NIS on ONS energy intake., Results: The most prevalent four NIS were no appetite (35.3%), dysphagia (29.4%), vomiting (13.2%) and oral pain (12.5%), respectively. All patients in the study were malnutrition. Patients with xerostomia or oral pain had less ONS use days than those without these symptoms. Patients with vomiting (OR 0.09, 95% CI 0.02-0.50) or pain (OR 0.15, 95% CI 0.02-0.89) were less likely to have ONS energy intake ≥400 kcal/day than those without these symptoms after adjusting the confounding factors. In addition, one-point increase in total NIS score was associated with a lower proportion of ONS energy intake ≥400 kcal/day (OR 0.77, 95% CI 0.59-0.99)., Conclusion: Xerostomia, oral pain, vomiting and pain should be strengthened and intervened to improve ONS use and nutritional status among HNC patients with malnutrition., (© 2024 The Author(s).
