The global wind energy industry is expected to expand in the context of carbon neutralization. Meanwhile, with the continuous improvement in carbon reduction tools such as carbon market and carbon tariffs, the carbon footprint of renewable energy may impact the cost and development of wind power in the future. Taking China, Europe, and the United States as the research object, this study constructs the lifecycle evaluation process and list of onshore wind power systems, conducts parameter comparison regarding the carbon footprint of onshore wind power in relevant regions, and summarizes the change trends. Moreover, it analyzes the cause of the trend and clarifies the influencing factors. The results indicate that the carbon footprint of onshore wind power shows a downward trend in the aforementioned regions from 2011 to 2022 owing to the large-scale wind turbines, improved generation efficiency, and cleanliness of industrial production. Specifically, the average decrease in China, Europe, and the United States was 49.2%, 46.2%, and 20.8%, respectively, and the decrease was concentrated in the equipment production stage. China has reduced its carbon footprint to a level close to Europe, and its gap with the United States has been reduced to 3.63 g/kW·h. However, China still lags behind Europe and the United States in terms of industrial production cleanliness and fan capacity factor, respectively. In the process of promoting industrial development, China should further promote the power generation efficiency of its wind power system, improve the cleanliness of industrial production, and support the recycling of decommissioned wind power systems, so as to steadily reduce the carbon footprints within the lifecycle of onshore wind power systems.

In response to the global climate crisis, some countries and regions have established green trade “carbon barriers” that leverage their advantages in carbon emissions accounting and certification to curtail exports of Chinese products. Facing these emerging challenges, China needs to refine its carbon accounting system to contribute to an equitable and cooperative global climate governance and trade system. This study aims to improve China’s carbon accounting system. It summarizes the essence and construction progress of the carbon accounting system, introduces the accounting and reporting requirements of international green trade mechanisms, and employs comparative analysis to examine the differences between China’s carbon market, the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, and the “Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 concerning batteries and waste batteries” in terms of accounting boundaries, methodologies, and data support and quality assurance systems. The findings indicate that while China’s carbon market aligns with international green trade mechanisms in terms of accounting methodologies, it lags significantly in its carbon footprint system as well as data support and quality assurance systems. These gaps mean that Chinese export-oriented enterprises struggle to overcome these carbon barriers with the current accounting system, potentially hindering the development of emerging industries. The study suggests that China should adhere to its fundamental stance of opposing unfair green trade barriers and take specific measures to improve the carbon accounting system: (1) enhancing the product-level carbon accounting system, (2) establishing a credible platform for emission factor data, (3) bolstering research support from academic institutions, (4) reinforcing data security management, and (5) improving the carbon accounting and reporting capabilities of affected enterprises.

Background: The biological activity and pharmacological effects of rare ginsenosides have been proven to be superior to those of the major ginsenosides, but they are rarely found in ginseng. Methods: Ginsenoside Rb1 was chemically transformed with the involvement of methanol molecules by a synthesized heterogeneous catalyst 12-HPW@MeSi, which was obtained by the immobilization of 12-phosphotungstic acid on a mesoporous silica framework. High-performance liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry was used to identify the transformation products. Results: A total of 18 transformation products were obtained and identified. Methanol was found to be involved in the formation of 8 products formed by the addition of methanol molecules to the C-24 (25), C-20 (21) or C-20 (22) double bonds of the aglycone. The transformation pathways of ginsenoside Rb1 involved deglycosylation, addition, elimination, cycloaddition, and epimerization reactions. These pathways could be elucidated in terms of the stability of the generated carbenium ion. In addition, 12-HPW@MeSi was able to maintain a 60.5% conversion rate of Rb1 after 5 cycles. Conclusion: Tandem and high-resolution mass spectrometry analysis allowed rapid and accurate identification of the transformation products through the characteristic fragment ions and neutral loss. Rare ginsenosides with methoxyl groups grafted at the C-25 and C-20 positions were obtained for the first time by chemical transformation using the composite catalyst 12-HPW@MeSi, which also enabled cyclic heterogeneous transformation and facile centrifugal separation of ginsenosides. This work provides an efficient and recyclable strategy for the preparation of rare ginsenosides with the involvement of organic molecules.

Background: Peripheral immunity and neuroinflammation interact with each other and they play important roles in the pathophysiology of idiopathic Parkinson's disease (IPD). There have been very few real-world reports on the relationship between peripheral immune inflammation and motor phenotypes of IPD. This study aimed to investigate the potential correlation between peripheral inflammatory indicators and motor subtypes in patients with IPD. Methods: This observational, prospective case-control study examined patients with IPD and healthy controls (HC) matched for age and sex between September 2021 and July 2023 at the Affiliated Huaian No. 1 People's Hospital of Nanjing Medical University. The levels of peripheral inflammatory indicators were collected from each patient with IPD and HCs. Differences in the levels of peripheral inflammatory indicators among groups were compared. Binary logistic regression analysis was used to explore the inflammatory mechanism underlying the motor subtype of IPD. Results: A total number of 94 patients with IPD were recruited at the Affiliated Huaian No. 1 People's Hospital of Nanjing Medical University between September 2021 and July 2023, including 49 males and 45 females, and 37 healthy volunteers matched for age and sex were also enrolled as the control group. Of the 94 patients with IPD, 42.6% performed as the TD motor subtype and 57.4% performed as the AR motor subtype. NLR and the plasma levels of IL-1βand TNF-α in the IPD group were higher than those in the HC group (P < 0.05). The disease duration, Hoehn and Yahr (H-Y) stage, NLR, and the levels of IL-1β in the AR group were higher than those in the TD group (P < 0.05). Additionally, IL-1β plasma levels and NLR were positively correlated with disease duration, H-Y stage, movement disorder society-Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale-III motor score, and AR subtype. The binary logistic regression model revealed that the plasma level of IL-1β was mildly associated with the AR motor subtype and NLR was strongly associated with the AR motor subtype. The combination of NLR and IL-1β showed better performance in identifying the AR motor subtype. Conclusion: NLR is strongly associated with the AR motor subtype in IPD, and peripheral immunity is probably involved in the pathogenesis of AR motor subtype in IPD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The occurrence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), a worldwide chronic disease, is mainly caused by insufficient insulin production and places a huge burden on the health system. Gastrodia elata Blume (GE), a food of medicine–food homology, has been reported to have the ability to inhibit glycosidase activity, indicating its potential in the treatment of diabetes. However, the main pharmacological components of GE for the treatment of T2DM have not been fully clarified. Therefore, this study aims to clarify the pharmacological components changes of GE with different drying methods and the treatment of T2DM using HPLC, network pharmacology, molecular docking and experimental evaluations. The results showed that the GE samples processed by the steam-lyophilized method possessed the highest total content of the six marker components and the strongest antioxidant and α-glucosidase inhibitory abilities. Meanwhile, the six marker compounds had a total of 238 T2DM-related gene targets. Notably, these active compounds have good affinity for key gene targets associated with T2DM signaling pathways. In conclusion, this study revealed that different drying methods of GE affect the content of its major active compounds, antioxidant capacity, α-glucosidase inhibitory capacity and potential pharmacological effects on T2DM, indicating that it is a potential treatment of T2DM. Prior research extensively investigates the delayed influence of El Niño‐Southern Oscillation (ENSO) events on subsequent summer climates, with persistent sea surface temperature anomalies (SSTAs) in remote tropical oceans serving as crucial pathways. This study unveils a previously overlooked midlatitude pathway. During the developing winter, El Niño events induce basin‐scale cold SSTAs in the central North Pacific, which can persist into the following summer. These anomalies significantly influence early‐summer atmospheric circulation by enhancing atmospheric baroclinicity and transient eddy activities. Primarily driven by transient eddy vorticity forcing, an equivalent barotropic geopotential low anomaly emerges over the North Pacific. Enhanced by the southwesterly winds of the atmospheric low, tropical moisture is transported farther northeastward in the early summer, resulting in increased rainfall in the Pacific Northwest region. By elucidating this meridional pathway, our study advances the understanding of ENSO's delayed impacts and associated dynamical processes, in which the midlatitude oceanic feedbacks are emphasized. It reveals that El Niño events trigger significant cold sea surface temperature anomalies (SSTAs) in the North Pacific during their mature phase in winter, which persist into the following summer. These SSTAs wield substantial influence over early‐summer atmospheric circulation, fostering atmospheric baroclinicity and transient eddy activities. Consequently, an anomalous low‐pressure system emerges over the North Pacific in early summer, enhancing southwesterly winds and transporting tropical moisture farther northeastward. This moisture influx results in increased rainfall in the Pacific Northwest region. By elucidating this meridional pathway, the study advances our comprehension of ENSO's delayed impacts, highlighting the crucial role of midlatitude oceanic feedbacks.
