ABSTRACT Background Purpose Methods Results Conclusions Trial Registration Hypertension (HT) is a global health problem. Although there are effective treatment protocols, patients have difficulty in adapting to regular use of drugs, diet, and lifestyle changes. Mobile apps can be a potential alternative for managing HT and improving self‐care behavior.This study aimed to determine the effect of mobile application follow‐up on treatment compliance and self‐care management in patients with HT.This randomized controlled trial was conducted in November 2021 and March 2022 with 40 experimental and 40 control group patients with HT. Research data were collected using a patient information form, “Hill‐Bone Hypertension Treatment Compliance Scale (HBHTTCS),” “Hypertension Self‐Care Profile‐Motivation Scale (HTSPMS),” a mobile application program (daily blood pressure, pulse, medication, diet, exercise tracking) uploaded to the mobile phones of the patients, and individual motivational messages.The mean total score of the HBHTTCS at Week 6 was 14.57 ± 1.89 and the mean total score of the HTSPMS was 78.15 ± 2.05. There was a statistically significant difference in mean total HTSPMS (p = 0.000) and HBHTTCS (p = 0.000) scores and mean scores on medical (p = 0.002) and nutrition (p = 0.002) subscales of HBHTTCS between the first interview (1st‐week follow‐up) and the last interview (6th‐week follow‐up) of patients in the intervention group.This study showed that mobile application follow‐up increased motivation levels and treatment compliance in patients with HT and resulted in better self‐care. Objective To explore the influence of family member participatory nursing intervention mode on the disease control and self-management ability of patients with chronic arrhythmia. Methods A total of 126 patients with chronic arrhythmia were included in the study, and were divided into control group and observation group in the random drawing method, with 63 cases in each group, both given intervention for 3 months. The control group implemented routine nursing intervention mode, while the observation group adopted family member participatory nursing intervention mode on this basis. The scores of Mishel uncertainty in illness scale-family member form (MUIS-FM), self-management ability scale (SMAS), self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) and self-rating depression scale (SDS), change of heart rate, treatment compliance, and complication rate were compared between the two groups before intervention, and 1 month and 3 months after intervention. Results After 1 month and 3 months of intervention, the scores of MUIS-FM, SAS and SDS in the observation group were all lower than those in the control group, while the score of SMAS was higher than that in the control group (all P < 0. 05). After 1 month of intervention, the minimum heart rate of the observation group was higher than that of the control group (P<0. 05); after 3 months of intervention, the resting heart rate and the minimum heart rate of the observation group were both higher than those of the control group (all P<0. 05). There was no statistically significant difference in the mean heart rate within 24 hours between the observation group and the control group after 1 month and 3 months of intervention (all P> 0. 05). The treatment compliance rate of the observation group was higher than that of the control group (96. 83% vs. 85. 71%, P<0. 05). Objectives: A 6‐week course of tetracycline eye ointment is an alternative to single ‐dose oral azithromycin in annual mass drug administration for trachoma control. Compliance with the recommended tetracycline eye ointment regimen has not been well characterised when administered as part of a trachoma control program. Methods: A routine mass drug administration for trachoma was carried out in 40 communities in the Amhara region of Ethiopia. Two tubes of tetracycline eye ointment, to be administered twice daily for 6 weeks, was offered to all children under 6 months of age, to pregnant women who declined to take azithromycin, and to all individuals with a macrolide allergy. Seven weeks following the mass drug administration, a treatment compliance survey was performed for all community members documented to have received tetracycline eye ointment during the mass drug administration. Results: Of the 491 individuals documented as having received tetracycline eye ointment from the treatment records, 367 completed the survey, of which 214 recalled being offered tetracycline eye ointment. A total of 105 (49%) respondents reported taking ≥1 daily dose of tetracycline eye ointment on most days of the week for at least the first week. Only 20 (9%) respondents reported taking at least 1 tetracycline eye ointment dose per week for 6 weeks. The most common reasons for low compliance included 'saving it for a future infection' and 'stopped because I (or my child) seemed healthy'. The odds of low compliance were greater for those who reported not having adequate counselling (e.g., odds ratio [OR] 5.3, 95% CI 2.5–28.9 when low compliance was defined as not taking a tetracycline eye ointment dose for most days of at least the first week). Conclusions: Compliance with tetracycline eye ointment was low when administered by a trachoma program during a routine mass drug administration, especially for those reporting inadequate counselling. Aims/Background To implement a co-management mode among community-level diabetes patients and analyze its impact on diagnosis and treatment compliance and diabetic retinopathy of the patients. Methods A total of 80 patients who underwent diabetic retinopathy examination in Lanxi People's Hospital from January 2021 to March 2022 were retrospectively selected as the study objects. The clinical data of the patients were analyzed, including 40 patients who adopted the conventional diabetes management mode from January 2021 to August 2021 as the control group. From September 2021 to March 2022, 40 patients in the county medical service community diabetes management team model were adopted as the management group. The two groups of patients were compared in terms of diabetic retinopathy indictors, biochemical examination indicators, self-management ability, and nursing management satisfaction. Results Number of patients complying with treatment protocols in the management group was higher than that in the control group (p < 0.05). The blood spot area, macular thickness, hemangioma volume, and visual-field grayscale value in the management group at the last follow-up were all lower than those in the control group (p < 0.05). The levels of diastolic blood pressure (DBP), systolic blood pressure (SBP), fasting blood glucose (FBG), hemoglobin A1C (HbA1c), total cholesterol (TC), and triglyceride (TG) in the management group at the last follow-up were all lower than those in the control group (p < 0.05). The scores of disease cognition ability, self-management ability, and nursing management satisfaction in the management group were all higher than those in the control group (p < 0.05). Conclusion By changing management concept and implementing the whole-process management and treatment mode for diabetic patients within the scope of the county medical service community, the diagnosis and treatment compliance of the patients can be improved, and the effective control of blood glucose, blood pressure, and blood lipid levels can be achieved, thereby improving the self-management ability and nursing management satisfaction of the patients and providing a new nursing mode for chronic disease management. Objective: Shortening the length of hospital stay (LOS) has become a major challenge for psychiatric hospitals in reducing unnecessary costs and improving the patient healthcare experience. We investigated the key factors associated with a long psychiatric hospitalization. Method: This was a retrospective study of 8,870 full-time psychiatric hospital stays (6,216 patients) in the Paris Psychiatry Hospital Group, with a discharge in 2022. We used machine learning tools and univariate and multivariate methods to explore the impact of demographic, pathway-related, and clinical variables on the LOS. Results: LOS >30 days was associated with age >55 years {odds ratio [OR] =2 [95% confidence interval 1.7--2.3]}, admission from outside the sectorization zone [OR=1.2 (1.1--1.3)], admission via a psychiatric emergency unit [OR, 1.2 (1.1-- 1.4)], and some clinical severity markers, such as psychotic disorder diagnosis [OR, 1.5 (1.3--1.7)], mandatory care [request of a third party, OR, 2.5 (2.1--2.9); case of imminent danger, OR, 2.3 (1.9--2.7)], the presence of seclusion and mechanical restraint measures (highlighting the positive effect of restraint duration), the somatic comorbidity for female sex [OR, 1.4 (1.2--1.7)], and treatment resistance [OR, 1.4 (1.2--1.6)]. Conversely, LOS ≤30 days was associated with being in a relationship [OR, 0.6 (0.5--0.8)], admission during a travel-related psychiatric episode [OR, 0.5 (0.3--0.6)], and personality and behavior disorders [OR, 0.7 (0.6--0.9)]. We found no significant association for features such as sex and a lack of treatment compliance. Conclusion: To our knowledge, this is the first recent study to investigate and highlight the impact of factors related to various illness severity markers, medication adherence, and patient journeys on the length of psychiatric hospital stay. Context: The annual incidence cases report depicts India as having the highest tuberculosis (TB) burden globally. Following a programmatic change, the daily fixed-dose combination (FDC) anti-TB treatment regimens were introduced by the Indian government’s National Tuberculosis Elimination Program (NTEP). Aims: The aim of the study was to assess the treatment outcomes among drug-sensitive pulmonary TB patients receiving daily FDC drugs and the associated factors influencing the treatment outcomes. Settings and Design: A prospective study was conducted among 300 drug-sensitive pulmonary TB cases in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) area. Materials and Methods: The TB units and designated microscopic centers (DMCs) were selected by multistage random sampling. Data were collected through a pre-tested and semi-structured questionnaire. Patients were followed up until treatment completion. Statistical Analysis Used: Data were compiled and analyzed using IBM Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) statistics version 20.0. Descriptive statistics and the Chi-square test were used for interpretation. A P-value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: Around 86.33% of patients were cured, 4% had completed treatment, and 1% had treatment failure. Older age, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) reactive status, alcohol intake, tobacco use, and migrants were associated with poor outcomes. Conclusions: The daily FDC regimen had better outcomes than intermittent regimens. Smokers, alcoholics, migrants, and patients with co-morbidity need to be given priority in management as they are prone to poorer outcomes.

Objective: To investigate the therapeutic utility of psychological nursing interventions for prostatic hyperplasia clients while they are receiving therapy. Methods: Clinical data of 110 patients with prostate group hyperplasia who underwent treatment in our hospital were collected and analysed retrospectively, and the selected period was from October 2021 to October 2023. The 110 cases of prostate group hyperplasia patients were divided into a research group and a control group according to the different methods of care, and each group had 55 cases each. The research group received psychological nursing intervention based on the conventional nursing care given to the control group. The total treatment compliance rate and contentment with nursing were contrasted between the research and control groups, and changes in the Self Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) score, Self Rating Depression Scale (SDS) score, Health Survey Short Form score, and sleep problems were observed between the research group and the control group. Results: The research group's overall compliance rate was 94.55% (52/53), a substantial increase over the control group's rate, 69.09% (38/55), P < 0.01. Following nursing, the research group's SAS and SDS scores were considerably more reduced than those of the control group, and both groups' scores were substantially lower than they were prior to nursing (P < 0.05). Conclusion: This retrospective study found that psychological nursing intervention applied to patients with prostatic hyperplasia can effectively improve the patient's compliance with treatment, effectively reduce the occurrence of negative emotions, improve the patient's quality of life, and improve sleep problems. Objective To investigate the effect of nursing interventions based on Roy's Adaptation Model (RAM) in patients with Bipolar Disorder (BD). Methods Clinical data from 200 BD patients treated in our hospital from June 2021 to June 2023 were selected. Using a random number table method, patients were divided into a control group (receiving conventional nursing interventions) and an observation group (receiving RAM-based nursing interventions), with 100 patients in each group. Nursing was provided for 12 weeks. The effectiveness of nursing care as well as scores from the Bech-Rafaelsen Mania Scale (BRMS), Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD), Social Dysfunction Screening Scale (SDSS), and Short Form Health Survey (SF36), were compared between the two groups. Results After the nursing intervention, the observation group showed significantly lower scores on the BRMS, HAMD, and SDSS compared to the control group (P< 0.05). Additionally. scores for treatment compliance, SF-36.and nursing satisfaction in the observation group were significantly higher after the intervention than the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Nursing interventions based on Roy's Adaptation Model can reduce the levels of mania and depression in BD patients, effectively enhance their treatment compliance and social function, and promote improvements in their quality of life, thereby increasing patient satisfaction. Background: The comorbidity of acute coronary syndrome and diabetes affects patient prognoses. Therefore, it is important to manage these diseases simultaneously. Purpose: In this study, the effect of nursing counseling on treatment compliance was investigated in patients who had received surgical treatment for acute coronary syndrome and had been recently diagnosed with diabetes. Methods: A quasi-experimental design with pretest–posttest control group was used. The study sample consisted of 60 patients (intervention group = 30, control group = 30). The data were collected using a patient information form, the Patient Learning Needs Scale, and the Scale for Patient Compliance with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Treatment. This study was conducted in compliance with the Transparent Reporting of Evaluations with Nonrandomized Designs checklist. Results: The intervention group earned significantly higher posttest scores on the Patient Learning Needs total scale and subscales than the control group. Moreover, intervention group compliance with treatment was higher than that of the control group. Furthermore, although significant improvements were found in the average posttest body mass index, fasting blood glucose, HbA1c, total cholesterol, triglyceride, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol values of the control group, the between-group differences in these values were not significant. Conclusions/Implications for Practice: It is important for nurses to provide counseling services that align with the learning needs of their patients. Background: The study aimed to investigate the connection between self-care behaviors and treatment adherence among individuals with type 2 diabetes. Methods: This cross-sectional correlational study was conducted between January and May 2022 in a public hospital involving 191 patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Data were collected using the patient information form, the diabetes self-care scale, and the assessment scale for treatment compliance in type 2 diabetes. Results: The mean self-care score was 84.57 ± 14.46 years, and the mean treatment compliance score was 79.50 ± 11.13 years, with a significant negative correlation between them (r = -0.315, p < 0.001). Factors positively influencing self-care were being female (p < 0.05), unemployed (p < 0.05), farmer or civil servant (p < 0.05), hospitalized in the past year (p < 0.01), and exercising regularly or occasionally (p < 0.001). Treatment compliance was significantly higher in those who did not exercise (p < 0.01). A positive correlation was found between age and treatment compliance (r = 0.152, p < 0.05) but not with BMI or diagnosis duration. Conclusions: The study revealed that patients exhibited moderate levels of self-care and treatment compliance. Moreover, as selfcare improved, treatment compliance tended to decrease. BACKGROUND: The psychology of pain is an important field of study that focuses on understanding the psychological factors associated with pain and developing effective approaches to its management. Pain is a complex sensation that affects a person's physical and mental well-being, and psychological factors can have a significant impact on the perception, response and coping with pain. This research study examines the contribution of psychotherapy in managing chronic pain and improving quality of life and treatment adherence. PARTICIPANTS AND PROCEDURE: The sample consisted of 87 participants who completed the McGill Pain Assessment Questionnaire, SF-36 Quality of Life questionnaire, and the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS-8) questionnaire. Two groups were created: one group received psychotherapy to manage pain and illness, while the other group either did not receive psychotherapy or had no contact with this therapeutic method. RESULTS: The results showed that patients who received psychotherapy had higher scores in the dimensions of mental health, vitality, general health, physical pain, physical functioning, and social functioning compared to patients who did not receive psychotherapy. Statistical analysis confirmed significant differences between the two groups. Additionally, psychotherapy was associated with higher treatment adherence, as indicated by the mean scores of patients receiving psychotherapy compared to those who did not. CONCLUSIONS: This suggests that psychotherapy can contribute to increased treatment adherence. The results clearly show that patients who received psychotherapy have significantly higher levels of mental health, vitality, general health and functioning compared to patients who did not receive psychotherapy. Background and Objective: Asthma control in pregnant women remains of utmost importance; suboptimal control can have adverse repercussions on both fetal and maternal health. The objective was to identify the factors that affect asthma control in pregnant Pakistani women presenting to a tertiary care hospital. Methods: This descriptive, cross-sectional research was conducted at KRL General Hospital between 1st November 2022 to 30th April 2023. Non-probability technique was used to sample one hundred and forty-five pregnant women with confirmed bronchial asthma irrespective of their trimester presented. Data regarding demographics and factors affecting asthma control was collected. Results: The mean age was 30.39 ± 4.33 years, with two-thirds (65%) being multiparous. Approximately 48% of participants were non-compliant with treatment, and less than 40% achieved adequate asthma control. A chi-squared test applied showed that multiparity (p = 0.003), treatment compliance (p < 0.001), BMI (p < 0.001), and proper inhaler technique (p < 0.001) were statistically significant factors affecting asthma control in pregnant women while, the level of education and household income did not exhibit a significant association. Multiple regression analysis qualified higher BMI, multiparity, treatment compliance, and inhaler technique as significant predictors of asthma control amongst pregnant women. Conclusion: Ensuring asthma control during pregnancy is important. This study identified BMI, multiparity, inhaler technique, and treatment compliance as factors that affect asthma control in pregnant women. Background: Group education has demonstrated benefits among people with diabetes, including reduced A1C and improved self-monitoring practices. Despite this, attendance rates are low for a variety of reasons, including lack of understanding of potential benefits among patients. Objectives: The pharmacist-led diabetes self-management education program at a community hospital has low attendance. This project assesses characteristics associated with attendance and compares outcomes among attendees and non-attendees. Methods: Retrospective data was collected between July 2022 and December 2023. Variables included: age, sex, class attendance, pre- and ≥ 90-day post-class A1C, pre- and post-class BMI, attending pharmacist-led clinic prior to scheduled class, social determinants of health screening survey responses, and diagnosis of depression or anxiety. Feline behavioral problems can be treated successfully by good advice from cat-behavior advisors, but guardians often do not comply with their advice. An experimental survey under 703 cat guardians was used to investigate what advisors can do to increase their clients' compliance with environmental enrichment advice. By systematically varying the credibility of the advisor and the severity of their advice, the hypothesis was confirmed that highly credible advisors elicit more positive attitudes and compliance intentions than less credible advisors. Also as expected, mild advice resulted in stronger compliance intentions than severe advice because guardians believed they were better able to incorporate the required actions. Finally, guardians who more strongly thought of themselves as cat guardians were more likely to adopt the advice because they believed that other cat guardians would do the same. The investigation of factors that can increase cat guardians' compliance with advisors' recommendations for the treatment of behavioral problems is crucial because the wellbeing of domestic cats lies in the hands of their guardians. Background: Tuberculosis (TB) remains a significant global health challenge, causing considerable morbidity and mortality worldwide. Despite advancements in healthcare, TB continues to prevail, particularly in resource-limited settings. Understanding latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) is critical for TB control strategies. Objective: This review aimed to assess LTBI epidemiology together with diagnostic and treatment challenges in Nigeria. Methods: Search of relevant articles on Latent tuberculosis in Nigeria compared to other countries published between 2008 and 2023 were undertaken mainly using Google scholar and PubMed. Related articles from websites of World Health Organization and Federal Ministry of Health, Nigeria were also retrieved and reviewed. Results: LTBI represents a substantial reservoir for TB, with one-quarter of the world's population harboring the infection. The epidemiology of LTBI in Nigeria mirrors the global pattern, with a high prevalence observed among vulnerable populations. Diagnosis of LTBI relies on indirect methods, including tuberculin skin tests (TST) and interferon-gamma release assays (IGRAs). Challenges in treating LTBI persist, including poor screening tools, low treatment compliance, and adverse drug reactions. Addressing these issues requires a comprehensive approach, including improved screening, patient education, and healthcare infrastructure strengthening, to enhance LTBI management and contribute to TB control efforts globally and in Nigeria. Conclusion: Screening and treatment of LTBI remains a crucial preventive intervention for TB eradication. Innovative dedicated policies with augmented research and strategies would be necessary to establish a successful LTBI program in Nigeria.

Two randomized, double-blind studies evaluating adjunctive pimavanserin in patients with schizophrenia who received stable antipsychotic treatment included measures to encourage and assess treatment adherence.Objective: This post hoc analysis evaluated adherence levels achieved in the Phase III ENHANCE study (NCT02970292) and the Phase II ADVANCE study (NCT02970305).Methods: Blood levels of participants receiving adjunctive treatment with pimavanserin or placebo added to their ongoing antipsychotic medication were tested and evaluated regularly throughout both studies. For both the background antipsychotic and pimavanserin, treatment adherence was defined as a blood sample test result above the lower limit of quantification.Results: Overall, 392 of 633 screened patients and 403 of 608 screened patients were in the safety populations in ENHANCE and ADVANCE, respectively. In ENHANCE, at weeks 1, 3, and 6/early termination (ET), the adherence rates remained ≥ 95.1% for the background antipsychotic in both pimavanserin and placebo treatment groups and ≥ 96.8% for pimavanserin. In ADVANCE, high adherence rates (≥ 90.6%) with the background antipsychotic (for both treatment groups) and pimavanserin (≥ 95.0%) were observed at weeks 2, 8, 14, and 26/ET.Conclusion: Rigorous screening was performed to exclude patients not adherent to their background antipsychotic before enrollment and to pimavanserin during study visits by using regular blood sampling. Mandatory caregiver participation further supported adherence to study treatment and procedures. Simple Summary: Oclacitinib is a tablet-based therapy given for itching that is caused by allergic or atopic dermatitis in dogs. The objective of this study was to understand pet owners' perceptions of the conventional film-coated form of oclacitinib and the chewable form of oclacitinib in terms of convenience and value. Firstly, an interview phase with pet owners and veterinarians was used to develop detailed written profiles of these treatment options. Then, pet owners were invited to participate in a survey about their experiences and preferences. Overall, 1590 pet owners provided survey responses. Most respondents (62%) reported having experienced challenges giving tablet-based therapies to their dog(s), and half of the respondents (52%) had experience giving flavoured or chewable tablets to their dog. Comparing oclacitinib and chewable oclacitinib (with or without associated costs), the majority of the respondents preferred the chewable formulation in all countries for both short-term and long-term itch (≥58%; all p < 0.05). Guardians of domestic cats may seek advice from a veterinarian or professional cat behavior advisor to address problematic cat behaviors. This advice typically involves a degree of environmental enrichment, which guardians sometimes experience as an encroachment on their personal lives and living environment. This may explain why compliance with enrichment advice is often poor and problem behaviors persist. The aim of this study was to investigate how advice compliance can be increased by addressing guardians' barriers to action. Using the Theory of Planned Behavior as a theoretical foundation, we differentiated between motivational- and capacity-related perceived behavioral control (PBC) to better understand the root of guardians' implementation resistance. We argue that motivational PBC is a more malleable construct than capacity PBC and tested the hypothesis that motivational PBC can increase when guardians experience social pressure when other guardians hold positive beliefs about environmental enrichment (subjective norm). We conducted a survey of 221 cat guardians who were asked to imagine they had sought and received enrichment advice to address their cat's behavioral problems. The positive or negative beliefs and actions of other cat guardians with respect to environmental enrichment were varied experimentally as a means of influencing the subjective norm. Results confirmed the prediction that exposure to others' positive enrichment beliefs (versus negative enrichment beliefs) results in a more positive subjective norm with respect to enrichment, which subsequently increases motivational PBC and compliance intention. Although compliance intention was also predicted by capacity PBC, capacity PBC was not influenced by subjective norm, as expected. This study is the first to differentiate between motivational- and capacity-related PBC as barriers to action, which proved fruitful. Understanding the nature of clients' implementation resistance helps practitioners select the most appropriate technique to address barriers to action. Purpose: Prior studies have found that court-referred individuals are more likely to complete relationship violence intervention programs (RVIP) than self-referred individuals. The current study provides a more nuanced analysis by examining whether RVIP clients referred through various legal and non-legal pathways (Probation, Deferred Prosecution, Civil Court, Court Case Pending, or No Court Involvement) have differential program attendance or post-program recidivism. Methods: Archival data on referral pathways and program attendance were examined for 879 men who presented for services at a community-based RVIP, and post-program recidivism was examined for a subset of cases (n = 392). Results: Individuals with any type of court order were 1.9 times more likely than those with no court involvement to complete the intervention program. Individuals with court cases pending were somewhat less likely than court-referred cases to complete the intake process, but significantly more likely than those with no court involvement to complete the program. Criminal recidivism during the two-years after scheduled program completion did not differ significantly by referral pathway. The data also revealed social disparities in referral pathways. Black individuals and those with less than high school education were more likely to be on probation, whereas white individuals and those with post-secondary education were more likely to have no court involvement. Conclusions: The findings support the use of legal referral pathways that can limit the negative impacts of carceral system involvement while highlighting the need for better strategies to engage and retain RVIP clients who have no court involvement. A persistent and influential barrier to effective cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for patients with hoarding disorder (HD) is treatment retention and compliance. Recent research has suggested that HD patients have abnormal brain activity identified by functional magnetic resonance (fMRI) in regions often engaged for executive functioning (e.g., right superior frontal gyrus, anterior insula, and anterior cingulate), which raises questions about whether these abnormalities could relate to patients' ability to attend, understand, and engage in HD treatment. We examined data from 74 HD-diagnosed adults who completed fMRI-measured brain activity during a discarding task designed to elicit symptom-related brain dysfunction, exploring which regions' activity might predict treatment compliance variables, including treatment engagement (within-session compliance), homework completion (between-session compliance), and treatment attendance. Brain activity that was significantly related to within- and between-session compliance was found largely in insula, parietal, and premotor areas. No brain regions were associated with treatment attendance. The results add to findings from prior research that have found prefrontal, cingulate, and insula activity abnormalities in HD by suggesting that some aspects of HD brain dysfunction might play a role in preventing the engagement needed for therapeutic benefit. • No prior studies have examined fMRI predictors of treatment compliance. • We explored whether neural activation predicted treatment compliance in CBT for hoarding disorder. • Compliance was examined in three ways: within session, homework completion, and attendance. • Brain activity related to compliance was found largely in insula, parietal, and premotor areas. Purpose: Lack of adequate knowledge about the disease is one of the key factors that misguide cancer patients and patients' caregivers in choosing a better management plan. The purpose of the study was to assess the patients' and caregivers' knowledge about the disease status and estimated treatment cost. Understanding of disease may improve adherence to treatment plans and quality of care. Methods: It was a cross-sectional study where 120 cancer patients were selected based on convenience sampling and the availability of record files and relevant data. The site, stage and prognosis of disease recorded from patients and caregivers were compared with the record of outpatient department and inpatient files with the help of the Fisher's exact test. The patients' knowledge about their financial estimates was also recorded. Three patients were selected for in-depth interviews based on purposive sampling to further support the findings. Results: Among 120 analysed patients, 60.83% were female. Around two-thirds of male patients (69.2%) and male caregivers (62.2%) knew about the site but only one-third of female patients (30.8%) and female caregivers (37.8%) knew the same. The primary responsibility for managing financial issues was caregivers in 89.16%. Only 7.5% knew the estimated cost. Nepali as the primary language and better education level is correlated with knowledge of disease status, among both patients and caregivers but was statistically significant only in knowing prognosis among native Nepali speaker caregivers (p < 0.001), and better-educated patients (p < 0.001). As per the in-depth interview, all three patients knew the site of their disease, but only the patient with breast cancer was aware of the stage of the disease. None of the patients were aware of their disease prognosis, treatment plan or the estimated cost of their treatment. Conclusion: The level of understanding is low for most patients and their immediate caregivers, particularly among those who are female, not literate and whose primary language is not Nepali. Treating chronic illness requires ongoing patient-provider cooperation, but individual differences in patients' negative perceptions of care can undermine this cooperation. Research suggests people high on borderline personality disorder (BPD) features may react negatively to and comply less with mental health and medical treatment. This might be particularly problematic in chronic pain treatment, where BPD features are over-represented and the dysregulation typifying BPD likely undermines consistent care. In a sample of 147 chronic pain patients, we investigated whether higher levels of BPD features – both in general and by specific facets – predicted worse perceptions of treatment and lower patient-reported compliance with treatment recommendations. Participants higher (vs. lower) on borderline features viewed treatment more negatively but did not report complying less with recommendations. We found evidence that this may reflect the unstable relationships facet of BPD. Our results indicate that, consistent with other treatment settings, BPD features may undermine care for chronic pain. Furthermore, our results highlight the importance of collaborative provider-patient relationships and patient agreement with the treatment of chronic pain, particularly among individuals higher on BPD features. Purpose: Do cell phone text reminders impact the rate of compliance with pneumatic compression device (PCD) therapy among women with breast cancer-related lymphedema (BCRL)? Methods: A prospective, randomized, 2-group feasibility study conducted at 2 centers. Participants were adult females (≥18 years old) with unilateral BCRL who had the capability of receiving reminder text messages. All participants underwent PCD therapy. Participants were randomized 1:1 to control (no text messages) or test group (received text message reminders if the PCD had not been used for 2 consecutive days). The rate of compliance between treatment groups was the main outcome measure. Secondary outcome measures were changes in arm girth, quality of life (QOL), and symptom severity. Results: Twenty-nine participants were enrolled and randomized, 25 were available for follow-up at 60 days (14 test, 11 control). Overall, 52.2% (12/23) of all participants were completely compliant, an additional 43.5% (10/23) were partially compliant, and 1 patient (4.3%) was noncompliant. The test and control groups did not differ in device compliance. In the pooled population, weight, BMI, and arm girth were improved. Overall disease-specific QOL and symptom severity were improved. Regression analysis showed benefits were greater among participants with higher rates of compliance. Conclusions: Automated text reminders did not improve compliance in patients with BCRL as compliance rates were already high in this patient population. Improvements in weight, BMI, arm girth, disease-specific quality of life, and symptom severity measures were observed regardless of the treatment assignment. Background Individuals with chronic diseases are less often presented to hospitals due to the restrictions enforced during the pandemic period and the fear of contracting the disease. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effects of the anxiety level associated with novel coronavirus on daily life, treatment compliance, and metabolic conditions in elderly diabetes mellitus (DM) patients. Methods This study included 263 patients diagnosed with type 2 DM aged >65 years. The researchers collected the study data through the face-to-face interview method. The Patient Information Form, Coronavirus Anxiety Scale (CAS), Morisky Medication Adherence Scale, Insomnia Severity Index, and the Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS-21) were used for data collection. Results The mean CAS score was 4.25±3.76. Mean CAS scores were higher in the participants who reported a decrease in the frequency of shopping, grocery/market visits, public transport use, hospital visits, and attending routine checks, during the pandemic (p<0.05). Furthermore, a significant positive correlation was found between the mean CAS score and the DASS-21 score (p<0.05). There was a significant negative correlation between the mean CAS score and the treatment compliance score (p<0.05). Conclusion The pandemic and coronavirus anxiety have had an adverse effect on daily life, treatment compliance, and metabolic conditions in elderly DM patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: The success of pulmonary TB treatment remains low due to patients' lack of compliance with the treatment regimen. This study aims to determine factors related to treatment compliance among TB patients at the Internal Medicine Outpatient Clinic of the Raja Ampat Regional General Hospital. Methods: An observational research design with a cross-sectional study approach was employed, involving 125 tuberculosis patients receiving treatment at the Internal Medicine Outpatient Clinic of the Raja Ampat Regional General Hospital, selected through total sampling technique. Data collection utilized a structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed using univariate, bivariate (Chi-Square test), and multivariate (Binary Logistic Regression) analyses. Results: The majority of treatment-compliant TB patients among the 125 respondents were 74 (59.2%) in the compliant category. There was a significant relationship between age, education, knowledge, attitude, perception, motivation, and staff support with the level of treatment compliance. Good knowledge (AOR: 2.18; CI: 1.05-1.56; p 0.003) and high staff support (AOR: 1.27; CI: 1.11-1.68; p 0.006) increased TB patient treatment compliance. Conclusion: TB patient treatment compliance is still below the established standards. Knowledge and staff support enhance better treatment compliance, emphasizing the importance of education and improving service access, such as health worker visits to TB patients' homes.

Objective: To examine the effect of patient-centered care services on compliance to treatment among patients with multidrug-resistant (MDR) or rifampicin-resistant (RR) pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB), so as to provide the scientific evidence for promoting the widespread application of the appropriate nursing process of MDR/RR-PTB patients in the hospital., Methods: The MDR/RR-PTB patients that were definitely diagnosed at the Sixth People's Hospital of Nantong City during the period from January 2017 to October 2020 were enrolled. The patients with confirmed diagnosis of MDR/RR-PTB during the period January 2017 to December 2018 served as controls, who were given routine care in the hospital, and those with confirmed diagnosis of MDR/RR-PTB during the period January 2019 to October 2020 served as the care group, who were given patient-centered personalized care services, including one-to-one consultations, periodic group activities, informatization case management, and personal reminder for return visits. The proportion of inclusion into treatment, loss to follow-up, return visits and sputum examinations were compared between the care and control groups., Results: A total of 104 MDR/RR-PTB patients were included, including 54 cases in the control group and 50 cases in the care group. There was no significant difference in gender and age distribution between the two groups (χ 2 = 3.013, 1.336, P > 0.05). The proportion of inclusion into treatment was higher in the care group (100.00%, 50/50) than in the control group (87.04%, 47/54) ( P = 0.013), and the proportion of loss to follow-up was lower in the care group (0, 0/43) than in the control group (19.05%, 8/42) ( P = 0.002). In addition, the overall proportion of return visits was higher in the care group (93.09%, 377/405) than in the control group (83.56%, 371/444) (χ 2 = 18.345, P < 0.001), and the proportion of sputum examinations was higher in the care group was (83.70%, 339/405) than in the control group (79.28%, 352/444) (χ 2 = 2.737, P = 0.098)., Conclusions: Patient-centered care services facilitate the improvements in the proportion of inclusion into treatment and compliance to treatment and reduction in the proportion of loss to follow-up among MDR/RR-PTB patients, which deserves widespread applications.

Background: Group education has demonstrated benefits among people with diabetes, including reduced A1C and improved self-monitoring practices. Despite this, attendance rates are low for a variety of reasons, including lack of understanding of potential benefits among patients., Objectives: The pharmacist-led diabetes self-management education program at a community hospital has low attendance. This project assesses characteristics associated with attendance and compares outcomes among attendees and non-attendees., Methods: Retrospective data was collected between July 2022 and December 2023. Variables included: age, sex, class attendance, pre- and ≥ 90-day post-class A1C, pre- and post-class BMI, attending pharmacist-led clinic prior to scheduled class, social determinants of health screening survey responses, and diagnosis of depression or anxiety., Results: 103 patients were identified. 53 % attended at least one class out of a series of four. Attendance at the pharmacist-led diabetes clinic (70 % among attendees versus 30 % among non-attendees, p  < 0.001) was associated with attendance. Age, gender, concurrent mental health diagnoses (depression and anxiety), and SDOH related needs were not associated with attendance. Baseline A1C was similar for attendees and non-attendees (9.6 vs. 9.7 %, respectively). Post-class A1C was 7.4 % for attendees of at least one class and 8 % for non-attendees. Patients who attended all four classes achieved a mean A1C <7 %., Discussion: There are many factors that lead to lack of engagement with group education for diabetes. Background and aim Medication adherence is a crucial factor in the management of chronic diseases. Depression is a common psychiatric disorder that has been correlated with poor adherence to medication. Adherence to medication in patients with chronic diseases is a well-known concern among the medical community, particularly when considering the adverse outcomes of adherence failure in such patients. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the relationship between depression and medication adherence among chronic disease patients in the Middle East. Methodology This cross-sectional study was conducted between January 2024 and April 2024 among patients with chronic diseases from the Middle East. The data were collected through convenient sampling using structured online-based questionnaires that included demographic information, type of chronic condition, medication adherence (measured by the Adherence to Refills and Medications Scale (ARMS)), and depression severity (measured by the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9)). Statistical analyses were conducted to examine the associations between these variables. Results The study involved 492 participants with chronic diseases and found significant associations between demographic factors and medication adherence. Female participants were more likely to be non-adherent than males (p = 0.001), and younger participants aged 20-30 years exhibited higher non-adherence rates (46.7%) compared to older participants, 61 years and above (16.1%, p = 0.001). Non-working individuals showed higher non-adherence (45.4%) compared to retired individuals (21.5%, p = 0.003). Depression severity was inversely related to medication adherence; participants with severe depression were significantly more likely to be non-adherent (relative risk (RR) = 8.41, 95% confidence interval (CI): 4.26-16.57, p < 0.001). In addition, certain chronic conditions were more impactful on medication adherence and depression rates, such as patients with rheumatoid disease that had lower rates of none to minimal depression (8.6%) and higher rates of moderately severe - severe depression each (28.6%). Meanwhile, asthma patients showed notably lower adherence rates (41.0%) and higher levels of severe depression (24.6%). Conclusion The study highlights the intricate relationships between demographic factors, chronic conditions, medication adherence, and depression in patients with chronic diseases in the Middle East. Gender, age, occupational status, and marital status significantly influence adherence and depression levels. Depression is a significant factor associated with decreased levels of adherence among patients with chronic conditions. Background: Febrile convulsions are a common pediatric emergency that imposes significant psychological stress on children and their families. Targeted emergency care and psychological nursing are widely applied in clinical practice, but their value and impact on the management of pediatric febrile convulsions are unclear., Aim: To determine the impact of targeted emergency nursing combined with psychological nursing on satisfaction in children with febrile convulsions., Methods: Data from 111 children with febrile convulsions who received treatment at Nantong Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital between June 2021 and October 2022 were analyzed. The control group consisted of 44 children who received conventional nursing care and the research group consisted of 67 children who received targeted emergency and psychological nursing. The time to fever resolution, time to resolution of convulsions, length of hospital stays, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, patient compliance, nursing satisfaction of the parents, occurrence of complications during the nursing process, and parental anxiety and depression were compared between the control and research groups. Parental anxiety and depression were assessed using the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HAMD) and the Hamilton Rating Scale for Anxiety (HAMA)., Results: The fever resolution, convulsion disappearance, and hospitalization times were longer in the control group compared with the research group ( P < 0.0001). The time to falling asleep, sleep time, sleep quality, sleep disturbance, sleep efficiency, and daytime status scores were significantly better in the research group compared with the control group ( P < 0.0001). The HAMD and HAMA scores for parents of children in the research group were lower than the scores in the control group after nursing ( P < 0.05). Compliance with treatment of children in the research group was higher than in the control group ( P < 0.05). Background: There are relatively few studies on continuing care of coronary heart disease (CHD), and its research value needs to be further clarified., Aim: To investigate the effect of continuous nursing on treatment compliance and side effect management in patients with CHD., Methods: This is a retrospective study with patients from January 2021 to 2023. The study was divided into two groups with 30 participants in each group. Self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) and Self-rating depression scale (SDS) were used to assess patients' anxiety and depression, and medical coping questionnaire was used to assess patients' coping styles. The pelvic floor dysfunction questionnaire (PFDI-20) was used to assess the status of pelvic floor function, including bladder symptoms, intestinal symptoms, and pelvic symptoms., Results: SAS score decreased from 57.33 ± 3.01before treatment to 41.33 ± 3.42 after treatment, SDS score decreased from 50.40 ± 1.45 to 39.47 ± 1.57. The decrease of these two indexes was statistically significant ( P < 0.05). Tuberculosis and Mental Illness (TB-MI) often co-occur with a varying range of interactions of both. The rising incidence of both in Low- and Middle-income countries (LMICs) is an emergent public health problem with accompanying higher morbidity and complications in management. The objective of this review is to gather insights into how healthcare providers can enhance their support for patients with TB-MI, to improve treatment adherence and overall health outcomes. Addressing the complexities of TB-MI treatment requires a multi-component approach that includes psychological interventions, monitoring the course of mental health comorbidities, patient education, looking into barriers to adherence, and involving healthcare providers. Study Objectives: Despite the efficacy of positive airway pressure (PAP) for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea, adherence remains challenging and negatively affects assessments of effectiveness. It is unclear whether low adherence is due to intolerance of PAP or whether this reflects overall adherence with medical therapy. We sought to correlate PAP use with medication adherence to determine whether poor adherence with PAP was specific to this treatment or represented global compliance with medical therapy., Methods: A total of 600 consecutive patients with obstructive sleep apnea were treated with PAP. Objective measures of PAP use were correlated with medication adherence. We included all chronically used medications, defined as medications used daily for at least 90 days prior to PAP initiation. Medication use was verified using an electronic health record. PAP adherence ("regular use") was defined as PAP use for ≥ 4 hours/night on ≥ 70% of nights. Medication adherence was defined as > 70% of pills taken as prescribed., Results: Complete records were available for 566 patients; 361 (63.8%) used chronic medications. The cohort was primarily men (90.3%, age 44.6 ± 10.2 years) with moderate obstructive sleep apnea (apnea-hypopnea index, 18.1 ± 13.9 events/h). In patients on chronic medications, PAP was used 55.8% of nights and 37.7% were regular users. Patients who were adherent with medications used PAP more hours/night (5.4 vs 4.6, P < .001) and were more likely to have regular PAP use compared with those nonadherent with medications ( P = .04)., Conclusions: Adherence with PAP correlated with adherence to chronic medications. Low PAP adherence may reflect an individual's global adherence to medical care. Background: There are no recent studies comparing the compliance rates of both patients and observers in tuberculosis treatment between the video-observed therapy (VOT) and directly observed therapy (DOT) programs., Objective: This study aims to compare the average number of days that patients with pulmonary tuberculosis and their observers were compliant under VOT and DOT. In addition, this study aims to compare the sputum conversion rate of patients under VOT with that of patients under DOT., Methods: Patient and observer compliance with tuberculosis treatment between the VOT and DOT programs were compared based on the average number of VOT and DOT compliance days and sputum conversion rates in a 60-day cluster randomized controlled trial with patients with pulmonary tuberculosis (VOT: n=63 and DOT: n=65) with positive sputum acid-fast bacilli smears and 38 observers equally randomized into the VOT and DOT groups (19 observers per group and n=1-5 patients per observer). The VOT group submitted videos to observers via smartphones; the DOT group followed standard procedures. An intention-to-treat analysis assessed the compliance of both the patients and the observers., Results: The VOT group had higher average compliance than the DOT group (patients: mean difference 15.2 days, 95% CI 4.8-25.6; P=.005 and observers: mean difference 21.2 days, 95% CI 13.5-28.9; P<.001). The sputum conversion rates in the VOT and DOT groups were 73% and 61.5%, respectively (P=.17)., Conclusions: Smartphone-based VOT significantly outperformed community-based DOT in ensuring compliance with tuberculosis treatment among observers. Background: Urological surgery presents unique challenges to patients, necessitating specialised aftercare nursing. Evidence-based nursing has emerged as a strategy to improve patient outcomes through tailored education, self-management strategies and psychological support. However, its specific impact on post-operative outcomes in patients undergoing urological surgery has not been extensively explored., Methods: This study assessed postoperative self-efficacy, quality of life, treatment compliance and nursing satisfaction. Self-compiled percentage of satisfaction scale was used to assess the degree of satisfaction with nursing work in both groups. Patients' self-care ability was evaluated using the Self-Care Ability Scale, and their quality of life scores were assessed with Short Form 36 Health Survey (SF-36). Patients' anxiety and depression levels were examined using the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) and the Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS). Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS 29.0 statistical software., Results: This retrospective study analysed 231 patients undergoing urological surgery and categorised them into a usual care group (n = 99) and an evidence-based nursing group (n = 132). Post-operative outcomes in the evidence-based nursing group included significantly higher self-care abilities ( p < 0.001), improved quality of life scores ( p < 0.001), lower anxiety and depression levels ( p < 0.001) and higher treatment compliance rates ( p < 0.05) compared with the usual care group. Additionally, nursing satisfaction was higher in the evidence-based nursing group ( p = 0.001)., Conclusions: The findings provide compelling evidence regarding the favourable impact of evidence-based nursing on various post-operative outcomes in patients undergoing urological surgery. Evidence-based nursing shows promise in enhancing patients' self-efficacy, well-being, treatment compliance and satisfaction. Background: Epilepsy is a nervous system disease characterized by recurrent attacks, a long disease course, and an unfavorable prognosis. It is associated with an enduring therapeutic process, and finding a cure has been difficult. Patients with epilepsy are predisposed to adverse moods, such as resistance, anxiety, nervousness, and anxiety, which compromise treatment compliance and overall efficacy., Aim: To explored the influence of intensive psychological intervention on treatment compliance, psychological status, and quality of life (QOL) of patients with epilepsy., Methods: The clinical data of 105 patients with epilepsy admitted between December 2019 and July 2023 were retrospectively analyzed, including those of 50 patients who underwent routine intervention (control group) and 55 who underwent intensive psychological intervention (research group). Treatment compliance, psychological status based on the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) and Depression Scale Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS) scores, hope level assessed using the Herth Hope Scale (HHS), psychological resilience evaluated using the Psychological Resilience Scale, and QOL determined using the QOL in Epilepsy-31 Inventory (QOLIE-31) were comparatively analyzed., Results: Treatment compliance in the research group was 85.5%, which is significantly better than the 68.0% of the control group. No notable intergroup differences in preinterventional SAS and SDS scores were identified ( P > 0.05); however, after the intervention, the SAS and SDS scores decreased significantly in the two groups, especially in the research group ( P < 0.05). The two groups also exhibited no significant differences in preinterventional HHS, Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), and QOLIE-31 scores ( P > 0.05). There are limitations to traditional treatment approaches in addressing the needs of individuals with dual comorbidity of TB and SUD. The concept of harm reduction as a distinct approach to addressing substance use, focusing on minimising the negative consequences associated with it rather than advocating for complete abstinence. Different harm reduction strategies, such as opioid substitution therapy, needle and syringe programmes, testing for viral infections etc. have been effectively employed for SUDs in past. Similarly, TB risk minimization approaches like improving housing and nutrition and focused testing strategies are considered as harm reduction strategies for TB management. The relationship between tuberculosis (TB) and substance use disorders (SUDs) involves a complex interplay of biopsychosocial factors. It is crucial to prioritise integrated and closely monitored care in order to address the treatment challenges and potential drug interactions that may arise. In light of the acknowledged challenges like limited awareness, infrastructure, drug resistance, and stigma, it is imperative to explore potential avenues for the implementation of harm reduction strategies targeting individuals with comorbid TB and SUD in India. Objective: The course of bipolar disorder (BD) is sensitive to factors that may disrupt biological and social rhythms. It is important for patients diagnosed with BD to continue their follow-up and treatment during the pandemic due to personal and social effects. This study aimed to evaluate the disease course and treatment compliance of individuals diagnosed with BD during the pandemic., Methods: A total of 267 patients with BD were included in the study. The scales were applied by phone calls. A sociodemographic data form was filled out during the phone interviews. Diagnostic criteria for hypomanic, manic, and depressive episodes in DSM-5 were questioned and recorded through the created form., Results: During the first of the pandemic, a total of 72 (27.0%) patients had a mood episode, of which 56 (21.0%) were manic/hypomanic episodes and 16 (6.0%) depressive episodes. Also, 54.7% of the patients were able to obtain their medications thanks to the extended medication reports. Being unable to use their medications regularly, having a seasonal pattern of disease, and using an increased number of psychotropics were significant predictors of a new episode. While 74.5% of the patients wanted to talk to their psychiatrists online, only 1.1% could reach the psychiatrist online., Discussion: The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic are particularly evident in patients with a seasonal pattern.
