Nowadays, for soil stabilisation and cleaner production of geo-composites, the possibility of utilizing waste rubber is in vogue. The present paper deals with experimentally investigating the mechanical and micro-structural characteristics of weak Indian clayey soil partially substituted with lime (0–3.5%) and waste rubber tyre powder (0–15%). It was observed that, with increasing lime and rubber powder content, the plasticity index of the soil decreases. The shear strength and compaction testing results reveal that adding lime and rubber tyre powder (RTP) enhances the geotechnical performance of clayey soil up to an optimum dosage value. Also, the tri-axial shear testing was performed to obtain stress-strain curves for all considered soil mixes. For modified clayey soil containing 3% lime and 12.5% rubber powder, the cohesion values and bearing capacities improved phenomenally by 36.1% and 88.6% respectively, when compared to clayey soil. Further for this mix, SEM analysis reveals a compacted microstructure which improves dry-density and California's bearing ratio among all modified mixes. The novel co-relations upon regression analysis are found able to predict plasticity index, dry density, bearing capacity and shear strength with higher confidence levels. Overall, the cost-benefit analysis worked out to obtain the optimum cost of construction of footings and flexible pavement shows cost deductions up to 19% and 39% respectively while utilizing modified clay soil mixes containing 3% lime and 12.5% rubber powder in subgrade, ultimately making production stronger, cheaper and environment friendly. • Experimental investigations on finding synergistic performance of clayey soil, lime and waste rubber tyre powder. • Atterberg's limits, shear, compaction, CBR, & microstructural characteristics shows better performance of modified mixes. • Optimised clay-lime-RTP mix reports 44% and 88.63% improvements in shear strength and bearing capacities respectively. • Decrement in productional cost of up to 39% for modified geo-mixes in road pavement and foundation constructions. The manipulation of soil pH through liming and straw incorporation plays a pivotal role in influencing soil organic carbon (SOC) dynamics in acidic red soil. This study aimed to assess the impact of these practices on SOC and elucidate the relationship between SOC and pH. Over a 31-year field experiment, seven different fertilization treatments were implemented: unfertilized (CK), nitrogen and potassium fertilizers (NK), NK with lime (NKCa), nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium fertilizers (NPK), NPK with lime (NPKCa), NPK with straw (NPKS), and NPKS with lime (NPKSCa). Results revealed that liming and straw incorporation significantly elevated soil pH by 0.13–0.73 units. Lime application boosted SOC and mineral-associated organic carbon (MAOC) by 20.2% and 28.7%, respectively, in NK treatment, whereas its impact on SOC in NPK and NPKS treatments were negligible. SOC witnessed a 17.1% increase with NPKS and a 15.2% increase with NPKSCa compared to NPK alone. Notably, NPKS and NPKSCa led to a significant surge in particulate organic carbon (POC) by 19.7% and 37.7%, respectively, albeit NPKSCa reduced MAOC by 14.9% relative to NPK. Linear regression analysis unveiled a positive correlation between POC and soil pH, while SOC and MAOC exhibited an initial rise at lower pH levels followed by stabilization as pH continuously increasing. A partial least squares path model showed two pathways through which pH influenced SOC: firstly, by positively affecting SOC through increasing Fe and Al oxides contents and enhanced aggregate stability, and secondly, by negatively influencing SOC through altered ratios of fungi/bacteria and Gram-positive bacteria/Gram-negative bacteria. In conclusion, the long-term effects of lime and straw application on SOC and MAOC were contingent upon soil pH, with more pronounced positive effects observed at lower pH levels. These findings underscore the importance of considering soil pH when implementing lime and straw strategies to mitigate acidification and regulate SOC in acidic red soil. Liming has been widely taken to remediate Cd-contaminated acidic paddy soils, whereas liming mode involving in the relevant optimal soil pH, model and efficacies remain unclear. Both soil and field liming experiments were conducted to improve liming mode for precise remediation of Cd-contaminated acidic paddy soils. Soil batch liming experiments indicated soil DTPA-Cd and CaCl 2 -Cd were piecewise linearly correlated to soil pH with nodes of 6.8–8.0, and decreased respectively by 15.3% 37.7% and 80.7% 93.8% (P < 0.05) when soil pH raised over the nodes, indicating an appropriate target soil pH 7.0 for liming. Stepwise linear regression revealed that liming ratio (LR, kg ha−1) could be estimated from soil basal pH (pH 0) and the interval to the target soil pH (ΔpH), as [LR=exp(1.10 ×ΔpH+0.61 ×pH 0 -4.98), R 2 = 0.97, n = 42, P < 0.01]. The model exhibited high prediction accuracy (95.2%), low mean estimation error (−0.02) and root mean square error (0.20). Field liming experiment indicated liming to target pH decreased respectively soil CaCl 2 -Cd by 95.2–98.0% and rice grain Cd by 59.8–80.6% (P < 0.01), whereas uninfluenced rice grain yield. Correlation analysis and structural equation models (SEM) demonstrated that great reduction in Cd phytoavailability was mainly attributed to the transformation of soil water-soluble and exchangeable Cd to carbonate-bound Cd and Fe/Mn oxides-bound Cd and reduced Cd in iron plaque as increasing soil pH. However, rice grain Cd of 50% samples met national food safety standards limit of China (0.2 mg kg−1) due to the high soil Cd level (0.8 mg kg−1). In conclusion, liming to target soil pH 7.0 could be considered as a precise and effective remediation mode for Cd-contaminated acidic paddy soils and complementary practices should be implemented for severe pollution. Current policy instruments under the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD) to mitigate phosphorus (P) loss require that P use on farms is managed through regulation of farm gate P balances. Regulation at farm scale does not account for spatial variability in nutrient use and soil fertility at field scale, affecting the costs and effectiveness of farm gate measures. This study simulated the implementation of a P loss mitigation measure coupled with improving soil fertility so that farm productivity would not be compromised. The measure was simulated at field scale and the costs and effectiveness assessed at farm scale. Effectiveness was expressed as the time taken for excessive soil P levels to decline to levels that matched off-takes and this varied temporally and spatially within and between farms ranging from 1 to 8 years. Sub-optimum soil fertility was corrected on all fields across both farms, with applications of other soil nutrients and lime to protect productivity. An increase in costs ranging from 1.5 to 116% was predicted in the first two years of the measure on both farms after-which savings of 15–31% were predicted for each subsequent year until the measure was effective in year 9. Despite initial cost increase, there was no statistically significant difference in costs over the time taken for the measure to be effective, when compared to baseline costs. Successful implementation of measures should consider the impact on farm costs and time taken for measures to environmentally effective. Adoption of measures could improve if demonstrating to farmers that costs will not vary significantly from current practice and in time may results in savings if measures are paired with correcting soil fertility and increasing yields. Abstract The influence of lime amendment on the absorption and accumulation of lead (Pb) in the grains of three rice cultivars ((Dong Lian 5 (DL-5, Indica), TeYou 009 (TY-009, Hybrid Indica), and YiYou 673 (YY-673, Hybrid Indica)) was investigated and the associated mechanisms were explored. Pot experiment was conducted in heavily Pb-polluted paddy soil. The transformation of Pb species in soil and roots under different levels of lime application was studied by Pb L3-edge X-ray absorption spectroscopy (Pb L3-XAS) and BCR sequential extraction. The results showed that lime amendment significantly increased soil pH and decreased DTPA-extractable Pb in soil. When the additional ratio of Liming was lower than 32 g kg–1, the Pb accumulation in rice plants, particularly in the grains was remarkably reduced. Moreover the biomass of rice was not significantly affected. Among the three cultivars, the lowest Pb content in rice grains occurred in YY-673. The cultivation of rice cultivar with low Pb accumulation will reduce the Pb content in the grains. Liming significantly inhibited the translocation of Pb from the roots to the aboveground parts, and from the stems and leaves to grains. Pb L3-XAS and BCR s sequential extraction method analysis revealed that lime amendment increased Pb2+ association with Fe oxides (Pb-Ferr), the precipitation of 2PbCO 3 ·Pb(OH) 2 , the residual fraction of paddy soil, and also promoted the transformation of Pb(NO 3) 2 and Pb-pectin to 2PbCO 3 ·Pb(OH) 2 and Pb-Ferr in rice roots. The suitable lime addition (> 4 g kg–1, under this pot experiment) could effectively reduce Pb accumulation in rice grains. Acidic soils cover approximately 50 % of the arable land with high N 2 O emission potential. 3,4-dimethylpyrazole phosphate (DMPP) inhibits N 2 O emission from soils; however, its efficiency is affected by acidity. Liming is used for soil conditioning to ameliorate the effects of acidity. In the present study, we investigated the effects of liming on the efficiency of DMPP in inhibiting N 2 O emission in acidic soils and the mechanisms involved. We evaluated the impact of liming, DMPP, and combined application and its microbial responses in two acidic soils from Zengcheng (ZC) and Shaoguan (SG) City, Guangdong Province, China. Soils were subjected to four treatments: un-limed soil (low soil pH) + urea (LU), un-limed soil + urea + DMPP (LD), limed soil (high soil pH) + urea (HU), and limed soil + urea + DMPP (HD) for analyses of the mineral N, N 2 O emissions, and full-length 16S and metagenome sequencing. The results revealed that, HU significantly decreased and increased the N 2 O emission by 17.8 % and 235.0 % in ZC and SG, respectively, compared with LU. This was caused by a trade-off between N 2 O production and consumption after liming, where microbial communities and N-cycling functional genes show various compositions in different acidic soils. LD reduced N 2 O emission by 23.5 % in ZC, whereas decreased 1.5 % was observed in SG. Interestingly, DMPP efficiency considerably improved after liming in two acidic soils. Compared with LU, HD significantly reduced N 2 O emissions by 61.2 % and 48.5 % in ZC and SG, respectively. Synergy of mitigation efficiency was observed by lime and DMPP application, which was attributed to the changes in the dominant nitrifiers and the increase in N 2 O consumption by denitrifiers. The combined application of lime and DMPP is a high-efficiency strategy for N 2 O mitigation can ensure agricultural sustainability in acidic arable soils with minimal environmental damage. Contamination of agricultural products by cadmium (Cd) is a global health problem, causing chronic abnormalities. The consumption of rice, the most-consumed foods, is an important exposure route of Cd to human body. Chloride (Cl-) is reported to increase Cd uptake by rice; however, the effect on Cd uptake and accumulation by rice in the presence of lime is not clear. Therefore, a pot culture experiment was performed to explore the influence of Cl- on the absorption and accumulation of Cd in rice plants under lime remediation and its possible mechanisms. The results showed that Cl- promoted Cd accumulation in rice grains, mainly because of increased Cd bioavailability in the soil and by impeding the formation of iron plaques on rice roots, which reduced chelating and precipitation of Cd. Moreover, increased overexpression of the main transporters of Cd in rice roots, including OsNramp5 , OsNramp1 , OsIRTs and OsHMA2 , favored the upward translocation of Cd from the root to shoot and increased the transfer factors (TFs) from soil to root, root-stem, leaf to grain, and soil to grain. Therefore, the application of Cl-rich materials to Cd-contaminated rice fields should be avoided during liming of the soil for Cd immobilization. Juglans regia, Robinia pseudoacacia, Eucalyptus sp. and Populus sp. plantations, suffering from Mn and Cu toxicity, were limed in order to reduce Cu and Mn solubility in soil. The purposes of the present work were: i) to study the changes in soil chemical properties after the addition of CaCO 3 , ii) to investigate the influence of liming on the reduction of Mn and Cu toxicity. After the addition of CaCO 3 (three applications, during three successive years), pH and CaCO 3 content were significantly increased, while organic C and N were significantly reduced. Exchangeable Ca concentrations have been slightly, or significantly, increased, while those of Mg have been decreased; in addition, ratios Ca/Mg and C/N have been significantly increased after liming. Impressive reductions of DTPA extractable Cu and Mn concentrations (more than 10 times in most cases) were recorded. It was also found that trees without Mn and Cu toxicity symptoms (healthy tress) before liming did not have, in many cases, significantly greater leaf Mn, Cu and Fe concentrations, than trees after soil liming (all the trees were healthy). This probably happened because excess Mn and Cu quantities had been accumulated into their root system. Finally, leaf Mn, Cu and Zn concentrations of trees suffering from toxicity were significantly decreased after soil liming, while leaf Fe concentrations, in all the plant species studied, were increased. Agroforestry systems have been recognized as a potential greenhouse gas mitigation strategy under the Kyoto Protocol because of their ability to absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and store carbon mainly in the soil. Soil particle size and land management practices are known to have a considerable influence on carbon storage in soils. This study evaluated changes in soil chemical and physical properties, and quantified and compared the amount of C stored in the bulk soil and in three different soil fractions (250–2000, 53–250 and <53 μm) at each of four soil depths (0–25, 25–50, 50–75 and 75–100 cm) in a silvopastoral system located on an acidic forest soil under Pinus radiata D. Don. Areas of this system were subjected ten years ago to one of nine fertilization treatments: three different doses of sewage sludge or no fertilization, all with or without the addition of lime, and mineral fertilizer with no liming. Seventeen years after reforestation and seven years after canopy closure, strong gradients with soil depth were found regarding soil bulk density, pH and carbon storage. Intense soil management (high doses of sewage sludge and liming) generally reduced soil carbon storage, mainly in coarse aggregates, but this could be compensated by the increase in tree and pasture development observed in soils subject to intermediate sewage sludge doses. Wetlands are highly effective systems in removing large amounts of N from waters, preventing eutrophication processes. However, when wetlands are polluted by metal-mine wastes their capacity to act as green filters may be diminished. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of liming and plants (Sarcocornia fruticosa and Phragmites australis) on the removal of NO3 − from eutrophic water in slightly acidic, wetland soils polluted by metal-mine wastes. Simulated soil profiles were constructed and six treatments were assayed: (1) no liming + no plant, (2) no liming + S. fruticosa, (3) no liming + P. australis, (4) liming + no plant, (5) liming + S. fruticosa and (6) liming + P. australis. Three horizons were differentiated: A (never under water), C1 (alternating flooding-drying conditions) and C2 (always under water). The eutrophic water used to flood the soil profiles was enriched in N and organic carbon (pH ∼ 7.5, electrical conductivity ∼ 11 dS m−1, NO3 − ∼ 234 mg L−1 and dissolved organic carbon ∼ 106 mg L−1). The pH, Eh and concentrations of dissolved organic carbon (DOC), N–NO3 − and N–NH4 + were measured regularly for 18 weeks. Liming stimulated the growth of plants, especially for S. fruticosa (20-fold more plant biomass than without liming), increased the soil pH and favoured the decline of the Eh values, enhancing the removal of NO3 − via denitrification. Of all the treatments assayed, liming + S. fruticosa was the only treatment that removed almost completely the high concentration of NO3 − from the eutrophic flooding water, reaching ∼1 mg L−1 N–NO3 − at the end of the experiment, at all depths. The higher content of DOC in the pore water of this treatment could explain this behaviour, since more labile carbon was available to the soil microorganisms in the rhizosphere, favouring NO3 − removal through denitrification processes. However, the treatment liming + P. australis (2-fold more plant biomass that without liming) did not remove completely the high concentrations of NO3 − from the eutrophic water, except in the C2 horizon – which was permanently under water. Hence, our results show that the effectiveness of liming, regarding the removal of NO3 − from eutrophic flooding water in wetland soils polluted by metal-mine wastes, depends on the presence of plants, their growth and the production of organic compounds in the rhizospheric environment. Abstract: The aim of this study was to identify the effectiveness of liming in combination with vegetation for the recovery of slightly acidic, saline soils of eutrophic wetlands affected by mine wastes, under fluctuating flooding conditions. Simulated soil profiles were constructed and four treatments were assayed under greenhouse conditions: control, only plant, only liming, and liming and plant. The plant species was the halophyte Sarcocornia fruticosa. Three horizons were differentiated: A (never under water), C1 (alternating flooding-drying conditions), and C2 (always under water). The pH, Eh, salinity, and the concentrations of dissolved organic carbon and soluble metals were measured regularly for 18 weeks. Liming favoured the growth of S. fruticosa, an increase in pH and a fall in Eh. The amendment was effective for reducing Mn, Zn, and Cd in pore water of bare soils, but not Cu and Pb. In the treatment with liming and plant, the growth of S. fruticosa counteracted the effect of the amendment, strongly increasing the concentrations of metals in pore water and distributing them along the soil profile. The application of lime or liming materials to acid-soil grasslands might help mitigate soil acidity, a major constraint to forage productivity in many temperate mountainous grasslands. Nowadays, in these mountainous grasslands, it is essential to promote agricultural practices to increase forage yield and nutritive value while preserving biodiversity and agroecosystem functioning. Two different field experiments were conducted in the Gorbeia Natural Park, northern Spain: (i) one in a calcareous mountainous grassland (Arraba) and (ii) the other in a siliceous mountainous grassland (Kurtzegan) to study the effects of a single application of two liming products, i.e. 2429kg lime (164.3% CaCO3) ha−1 and 4734kg calcareous sand (84.3% CaCO3) ha−1, applied one month before the beginning of the sheep grazing season (May–October), on soil chemical (pH, organic C, total N, C/N ratio, %Al saturation, Olsen P, exchangeable K+ and Ca2+) and biological parameters (dehydrogenase, β-glucosidase, urease, acid phosphatase and arylsulphatase activity) as well as on botanical diversity (graminoids, forbs, shrubs) and forage yield and nutritive value (crude protein, modified acid detergent fibre, digestibility). Untreated control plots were also included in the experiment. Soil sampling was carried out at the end of the sheep grazing season (6 months after liming treatment), while botanical composition was determined one year after treatments application. Although no increase in soil pH was observed in Arraba, liming significantly increased dehydrogenase activity (an indicator of soil microbial activity) by 30.4 and 86.7% at Arraba and Kurtzegan site, respectively. Liming treatments significantly improved forage yield and nutritive value in Arraba but not in Kurtzegan. Furthermore, no differences in soil biological quality, evaluated using the “treated-soil quality index” as proposed in this work, were observed between treated and untreated soils, and between the two different lime treatments (lime, calcareous sand). It was concluded that, in acid-soil temperate mountainous grasslands, moderate liming treatments have no negative short-term effects either on soil quality or botanical composition, while resulting in improvements in forage yield and nutritive value under some conditions. A need exists to improve the utilization of manure nutrients by minimizing NH3 emissions from land application of manure. Management strategies to reduce NH3 emissions are available; however, few have been validated under Canadian conditions. A well tested and accurate simulation model, however, can help overcome this challenge by determining appropriate management strategies for a given set of field conditions. The Volt'Air simulation model was utilized to estimate NH3 volatilization from manure spreading for various manure spreading considerations under a range of atmospheric conditions typically encountered in eastern Canada. Considerations included: (i) soil liming, (ii) time of day of manure spreading, (iii) rainfall (timing and amount) and (iv) manure incorporation (timing, depth and manure coverage). Results demonstrated that liming to increase soil pH, increased NH3 emissions by 3.3kg ha¿1 for each increment of 0.1 pH (up to a 1.5 total increase), over no liming at 34.6kg ha¿1. For each hour delay in manure spreading past 0800h, NH3 losses were reduced by 1.5kg ha¿1. Rainfall (10mm) at least 20h after manure application reduced losses, with increased reductions at higher rainfall amounts. Incorporation soon (1h) after application was best for NH3 mitigation. Increasing the depth of incorporation by 5cm reduced NH3 emissions by 4.4kg ha¿1; also increasing manure coverage by incorporation reduced losses by 2kg ha¿1 for each 10% increase in coverage, compared to surface application at 34.6kg ha¿1. The closing down of a lindane factory near Rio de Janeiro, over 45 years ago, left an area heavily contaminated with hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH). Remediation by soil liming was applied by government authorities in 1995. This study aims to evaluate the HCH distribution and impact on soil microbiota due to contamination and liming. Microcosm experiments with uncontaminated soil mixed with HCH and lime indicated that lime-promoted dechlorination of HCH molecules led to leaching and volatilization of metabolites. The treatment applied transformed but did not solve the problem as most of the HCH remains in the soil. Reduced microbial respiratory activity was measured in contaminated field samples. Higher respiration rates in uncontaminated soil were reduced by HCH and lime addition; the sole addition of HCH caused a temporary increase in soil respiration, and stimulation occurred with oxygen and/or nutrient addition. A heterotrophic bacterial population around 109 CFU/g was found in polluted field soil, some well-known degraders having been isolated. Native soil microbiota showed resistance to high amounts of HCH and alkaline pH. The results allow considering bioremediation rather than chemical treatments to clean up the area. Increasing cadmium (Cd) contamination in agricultural fields has resulted in a higher risk of Cd accumulation in the food chain. Lime addition can mitigate soil acidification and reduce Cd accumulation in crops cultured in Cd-contaminated soil. To determine key factors controlling the outcomes of liming in reducing Cd accumulation and enhancing soil pH, we performed a meta-analysis using previously published data from field and pot experiments. The results indicated that the liming showed positive effect sizes on the soil pH but negative effect sizes on Cd accumulation in crops, indicating the addition of different lime materials could enhance soil pH and reduce Cd accumulation in crops. The effect sizes of liming on soil pH under pot experimental conditions were higher than that under field experimental conditions, however, the effect sizes of application types and amount of limes on soil pH did not significantly differ between their individual different levels. Under a low background value of soil pH, SOM, CEC and clay, the addition of limes showed a significantly higher effect size on soil pH when compared to their individual higher soil background value, suggesting that the lower background values of soil pH, SOM, CEC and clay might facilitate the outcomes of liming to enhance soil pH. The experiment patterns, crop types and lime application amounts showed a limit effect on the outcomes of liming to reduce the shoot and grain Cd concentrations in crops. The lime types only showed a significant effect size on the shoot Cd accumulation but not on the grain Cd accumulation, in which the CaCO 3 had the highest effect size (absolute value, the same below) followed by Ca(OH) 2 and CaO. The low soil background values of total Cd concentration and CEC content, but a high soil SOM background content might facilitate the outcomes of liming to reduce the shoot Cd concentration in crops. However, only the background value of soil clay content showed a significantly negative effect size on the grain Cd accumulation, where a high soil clay content had a higher effect size than a low soil clay content. These findings provide useful knowledge about the effects of experiment patterns, crop types, soil conditions, lime types and lime addition amounts on the efficiency of liming in enhancing soil pH and decrease crop Cd concentration. Manganese (Mn) toxicity is common in plants grown on very acid soils. However, some plants species that grow in this condition can take up high amounts of Mn and are referred to as hyperaccumulating species. In this study, we evaluated the capacity of Ilex paraguariensis to accumulate Mn and the effect of excessive concentrations on plant growth and nutrition. For this, a container experiment was conducted using soils from different parent materials (basalt and sandstone), with and without liming, and at six doses of applied Mn (0, 30, 90, 270, 540 and 1,080 mg kg−1). Clonal plants grown for 203 days were harvested to evaluate yield, and leaf tissue samples were evaluated for Mn and other elements. Without liming and with high Mn doses, leaf Mn concentrations reached 13,452 and 12,127 mg kg−1 in sandstone and basalt soils, respectively; concentrations in excess of 10,000 mg kg−1 are characteristic of hyperaccumulating plants. Liming reduced these values to 7203 and 8030 mg kg−1. More plant growth accompanied increased Mn leaf concentrations, with a growth reduction noted at the highest dose in unlimed soils. Elemental distribution showed Mn presence in the mesophyll, primarily in vascular bundles, without high Mn precipitates. Interveinal chlorosis of young leaves associated with high Mn concentration and lower Fe concentrations was observed, especially in sandstone soil without liming. Liming has been widely used to remediate Cd-contaminated acidic soils, but the effects of consecutive liming are still unclear. Four-year liming experiments were conducted to assess the remediation of Cd-contaminated acidic paddy fields in a double rice cropping system. With four-year consecutive liming (quicklime, 2.25 t ha−1 per season), the soil pH was increased by an average of 0.57 units (0.10–1.16 units), while the soil DTPA-Cd and available Fe and Mn were reduced by 9%, 19% and 31% (p < 0.05), respectively. The exchangeable plus water-soluble Cd fraction in soil was reduced by 17%, while the soil carbonate-, Fe/Mn oxide- and organic-bound Cd fractions were increased by 23%, 41% and 10% (p < 0.05), respectively. The Cd in rice grain was reduced by 55% for early rice and 63% for late rice (p < 0.05) and in some cases was reduced to below the Chinese allowable limit (0.2 mg kg−1). High annual fluctuations in rice grain Cd could be caused by variations in the field water regime and in rainfall. With consecutive liming, the soil pH, DTPA-Cd and rice grain Cd varied greatly in the first three seasons and then remained relatively less variable. Meanwhile, soil available nutrients (N, P and K) and rice grain yield were little affected by liming. Soil DTPA-Cd linearly decreased with increasing soil pH, while the reduction of Cd in rice grain logarithmically decreased with increasing soil pH and the reduction in soil DTPA-Cd in the heading stage, indicating potential implications for forecasting rice grain Cd content.
