- Abstract
The objective of the work was to present the rural-urban dynamics of Santa Cruz do Rio Pardo, a city located in the Midwest region of São Paulo, between 1950 and 2016, as an element that contributes to the understanding of the role it played in the urban network of Ourinhos. This time frame refers to the intensification of the urbanization process in this municipality and to the changes in economic activities developed in it. The analysis of Santa Cruz do Rio Pardo was motivated by the fact that it is a small city that has undergone significant transformations, within the scope of the urban network in which it operates, standing out as to the growth of the secondary sector. It was found that the accumulation of capital obtained from agricultural activities developed since the birth of the municipality, notably the cultivation of coffee, contributed to the development of economic activities in the urban area, especially regarding the food industry, a sector that stands out in the period current. To carry out this work, we consulted the bibliography referring to the history of Santa Cruz do Rio Pardo, the concepts, small towns and urban network and economic and demographic data in order to understand the rural-urban dynamics.
