Macrobrachium assamense peninsulare is a minor freshwater prawn and found in the Foothill Rivers and streams of Uttarakhand. However, no such studies were found to understand the reproductive rhythm of this species by observing the gonad development throughout the year. The aim of present study was to govern the maturation of gonads by study the Gonado-Somatic index (GSI) and Dobriyal index (DI) to understand the gonadal rhythm and breeding seasons. The GSI value ranged from 0.281±0.56 to 8.583±0.86 and DI value ranged from 0.023±0.981 to 5.456±0.082 during the interval of two year (August 2013 to July 2015). It is clear from the value obtained from the study that the maximum value of indices was in the month of April and minimum in the October in both the sexes (male and female). The patterns of breeding suggest that the animal take single spawning within breeding season and breeding start in the month of May which continued till September.

The present study was carried out on freshwater crab in hillstream Khoh of district Pauri Garhwal in Uttarakhand state. Samples of crab were collected from the population inhabits the hillstream Khoh on monthly basis during May 2011 to April 2012. The regression equations for the length-weight relationship in crabs were obtained as Y=2.045X+0.266 and Y=1.522X+0.392 for males and females respectively. The ANOVA test revealed significant differences in carapace length-weight relationship at p<0.05 for both the sexes. Allometric growth pattern was observed in the study for both sexes of P. koolooense. A weak relationship was observed between length and weight of the specimen.

Macrobrachium assamense peninsularie length-weight relationship and Fulton’s condition factor was studied in Khoh tributary of Ram Ganga in the Garhwal Himalaya region of Uttarakhand for the period of one year from March 2009-Feb 2010. A strong positive relationship was observed between the length and weight in both the sexes (male and female) (b<3). Also when data was pooled, the growth was allometric (b<3). The values obtained from the length/weight relationship (LWR) showed that there was a high and significant correlation between the total length and weight after using the t-test for the significance of correlation.The highest correlation coefficient ‘r’ =0.94 i.e strong association between length and weight was observed. This means that as the length of the prawn increases the weight increases in the same proportion. Coefficient of determination r2 was also high (0.88) which indicated that the model used for the analysis fits the data, confirming the fitness of the model. The Fulton’s condition factor “K” was recorded highest (K = 2.0603) in March and lowest (K = 1.6195) in May in Male while in female, the condition factor (K = 2.1038) was highest in August and lowest (K = 1.5345) in October. The condition factor “K” ranges from 1.6195 to 2.0603 in male and 1.5345 to 2.1038 in female. It means the condition factor was sex and season dependent. The difference in condition factors in male and female may be attributed to the presence of ovigerous female, environmental conditions and changes in feeding intensity.
