The article looks at issues and regulations affecting water use and wastewater handling and shale gas development in the U.S. Northeast Appalachian Region. Marcellus and Utica are examples of shale plays developed through horizontal drilling with hydraulic fracturing. It cites issues related to water use and handling raised by the hydraulic fracturing process. Included is a list of regulatory agencies in the region. Information on riparian rights is also provided.
