The separation efficiency of a microfluidic chip is influenced to a significant degree by the flow field conditions within the injection microchannel. Therefore, an understanding of the physics of the flow within this channel is beneficial in the design and operation of such a system. The configuration of an injection system is determined by the volume of the sample plug that is to be delivered to the separation process. Accordingly, this paper addresses the design and testing of injection systems with a variety of configurations, including a simple cross, a double-T, and a triple-T configuration. This paper also presents the design of a unique multi-T injection configuration. Each injection system cycles through a predetermined series of steps, in which the electric field magnitude and distribution within the various channels is strictly manipulated, to effectuate a virtual valve. The unique multi-T configuration injection system presented within this paper has the ability to simulate the functions of the cross, double-T, and triple-T systems through appropriate manipulations of the electric field within its various channels. In other words, the proposed design successfully combines several conventional injection systems within a single microfluidic chip.

Great efforts have been devoted to understanding the stability and reactivity of silver clusters, which usually depend on geometric structures, electronic configuration, and cluster size. Despite the fact that the jellium model and Wulff construction rule have successfully rationalized the stable clusters with "magic number" behavior, some experiments imply that silver clusters with 48 valence electrons also possess puzzling enhanced stability. In this work, using a recently developed deep learning technology, i.e., cluster graph attention network (CGANet), combined with a homemade comprehensive genetic algorithm (CGA) program, we searched the global minimum (GM) structures of Ag n ( n = 30-60) clusters with graphics processing unit acceleration, whose efficiency is about 2 orders of magnitude higher than that of the conventional density functional theory (DFT) calculations. GM structures and some representative isomers are reported at each size, revealing the competitive structural patterns based on truncated octahedra and icosahedra as well as the icosahedra-based layer-by-layer growth mode of large-sized Ag clusters. Most importantly, the size-dependent evolution behavior of structural and electronic properties of Ag n ( n = 30-60) clusters can successfully explain the observed stability at Ag 48 . Therefore, CGANet provides a powerful tool for rapidly exploring the potential energy surface of atoms with an accuracy comparable to that of DFT.

Aminopeptidase N (APN/CD13) is a widely expressed transmembrane ectoenzyme that is crucial for maintaining normal physiological activities. It exhibits abnormal activity closely associated with hepatic fibrosis and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Therefore, there is a high demand for noninvasive detection of aminopeptidase N (APN) in the diagnosis and research of related diseases. Here, we developed a small molecule fluorescent probe, Hcy-APN, which is a fluorescent probe with high sensitivity and selectivity for the detection of APN. Furthermore, we synthesized the fluorescent nanoprobe Hcy-APN@MSN by self-assembling Hcy-APN and mesoporous silica nanoparticles in solution using a combination of molecular probe design and nanofunctionalization strategies. The detection limit of this probe was 1.5 ng/mL. Hcy-APN@MSN exhibits more stable spectral characteristics compared to Hcy-APN and is suitable for detecting APN activity in live cells and mice. Hcy-APN@MSN was utilized for in vivo and intracellular imaging of NAFLD and hepatic fibrosis at different stages, as well as for a systematic assessment of APN levels in the liver. The results confirm an elevation in the expression levels of APN in NAFLD and hepatic fibrosis models. Furthermore, we investigated the inhibitory effect of the APN inhibitor bestatin in nonalcoholic fatty liver and hepatic fibrosis disease models, confirming its regulatory effect on APN levels in cells and in vivo in both disease models. Therefore, this study may offer diagnostic possibilities for detecting NAFLD and hepatic fibrosis.

Developing a reliable method for constructing mesoporous metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with single-crystalline forms remains a challenging task despite numerous efforts. This study presents a solvent-mediated assembly method for fabricating zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF) single-crystal nanoparticles with a well-defined micro-mesoporous structure using polystyrene- block -poly(ethylene oxide) diblock copolymer micelles as a soft-template. The precise control of particle sizes, ranging from 85 to 1200 nm, is achieved by regulating nucleation and crystal growth rates while maintaining consistent pore diameters in mesoporous nanoparticles and a rhombohedral dodecahedron morphology. Furthermore, this study presents a robust platform for nanoarchitecturing to prepare hierarchically porous materials (e.g., core-shell and hollow structures), including microporous ZIF@mesoporous ZIF, hollow mesoporous ZIF, and mesoporous ZIF@mesoporous ZIF. Such a multimodal pore design, ranging from microporous to microporous/mesoporous and further micro-/meso-/macroporous, provides significant evidence for the future possibility of the structural design of MOFs.

Receptor-binding peptides are promising candidates for tumor target therapy. However, the inability to occupy "hot spots" on the PPI interface and rapid metabolic instability are significant limitations to their clinical application. We investigated a new strategy in which an FGFR1-binding peptide (Pep1) was site-specifically functionalized with the dinitrophenyl (DNP) hapten at the C-terminus. The resulting Pep1-DNP conjugates retained FGFR1 binding affinity and exhibited a similar potency in inhibiting FGF2-dependent cell proliferation, comparable to that of native Pep1 in vitro. In addition, three conjugates could recruit anti-DNP antibodies onto the surface of cancer cells, thereby mediating the CDC efficacy. In vivo pharmacokinetic studies and antitumor studies demonstrated that optimal conjugate 9 exhibited significantly prolonged half-lives and improved antitumor efficacy without prominent toxicity compared to those of native Pep1. This is a general and cost-effective approach for generating peptidomimetic immunotherapeutics with multiple antitumor mechanisms that may have broad applications in cancer therapy.

Fatal dendritic growth in lithium metal batteries is closely related to the composition and thickness of the modified separator. Herein, an ultrathin nanocoating composed of monolayer montmorillonite (MMT), poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) on a polypropylene separator is prepared. The MMT was exfoliated into monolayers (only 0.96 nm) by intercalating PVA under ultrasound, followed by cross-linking with glutaraldehyde. The thickness of the nanocoating on the polypropylene separator, as determined using the pull-up method, is only 200-500 nm with excellent properties. As a result, the lithium-symmetric battery composed of it has a low overpotential (only 40 mV) and a long lifespan of more than 7900 h at high current density, because ion transport is unimpeded and Li + flows uniformly through the ordered ion channels between the MMT layers. Additionally, the separator exhibited excellent cycling stability in Li-S batteries. This study offers a new idea for fabricating ultrathin clay/polymer modified separators for metal anode stable cycling at high current densities.

Recent advancements in neural networks have led to significant progress in addressing many-body electron correlations in small molecules and various physical models. In this work, we propose QiankunNet-Solid, which incorporates periodic boundary conditions into the neural network quantum state (NNQS) framework based on generative Transformer architecture along with a batched autoregressive sampling (BAS) method, enabling the effective ab initio calculation of real solid materials. The accuracy of this method is demonstrated in one-, two-, and three-dimensional periodic systems, with results comparable to those of full configuration interaction and coupled-cluster method, even in the strongly correlated regime. Furthermore, we compute the band structures and density of states for silicon crystal. The successful incorporation of periodic boundary conditions into the NNQS framework through QiankunNet-Solid opens up new possibilities for the accurate and efficient study of electronic structure properties in solid-state physics.

As a novel electrochemical energy conversion device, direct ethanol fuel cells are currently encountering two significant challenges: CO poisoning and the difficulty of C-C bond cleavage in ethanol. In this work, an amorphous PdS nanowires/ultrafine IrMnO x bimetallic oxides (denoted as a-PdS/IrMnO x NWs) catalyst with abundant oxide/metal (crystalline/amorphous) inverse heterogeneous interfaces was synthesized via a hydrothermal process succeeded by a nonthermal air-plasma treatment. This unique interfacial electronic structure along with the incorporation of oxyphilic metal has resulted in a significant enhancement in the electrocatalytic performance of a-PdS/IrMnO x NWs toward the ethanol oxidation reaction, achieving current densities of 12.45 mA·cm -2 and 3.68 A·mg Pd -1 . Moreover, the C1 pathway selectivity for ethanol oxidation has been elevated to 47%, exceeding that of other as-prepared Pd-based counterparts and commercial Pd/C catalysts. Density functional theory calculations have validated the findings that the decoration of IrMn species onto the amorphous PdS surface has induced a charge redistribution in the interface region. The redistribution of surface charges on the a-PdS/IrMnO x NWs catalyst results in a significant decrease in the activation energy required for C-C bond cleavage and a notable weakening of the CO binding strength at the Pd active sites. Consequently, it enhanced both the EOR C1 pathway selectivity and CO poisoning resistance to the a-PdS/IrMnO x NWs catalyst.

For the conventional type-II heterojunction photocatalyst, their photocatalytic activity is affected by the limited separation efficiency of electron-hole pairs, exquisitely designed heterojunction photocatalysts are highly prospective materials for inducing charge transfer efficiently. Typically, enhancing the separation efficiency of electron-hole pairs in photocatalysts has been a formidable challenge. Here, the hollow mesoporous TiO 2 (H-TiO 2 ), the bulk g-C 3 N 4 (B-CN), and g-C 3 N 4 with bamboo shape (BS-CN) are prepared by simple processes. Among them, it is surprising to find that the band structure of g-C 3 N 4 can be regulated and controlled by adjusting its structure. The B-CN/H-TiO 2 /BS-CN (CNTOCN) dual-type-II heterojunction photocatalyst and B-CN/H-TiO 2 (CNTO) type-II heterojunction photocatalyst are designed to improve the separation efficiency of electron-hole pairs. The superiority of CNTOCN dual-type-II heterojunction photocatalyst is demonstrated by the photocatalysis experiment, the band structure analysis, and the photoelectric characterization. The results show that CNTOCN (0.8428 h -1 ) has much higher photocatalytic activity than H-TiO 2 (0.0812 h -1 ), B-CN (0.3569 h -1 ), and CNTO (0.5934 h -1 ). The improvement of photocatalytic activity is ascribed to the establishment of the dual-type-II heterojunction charge transfer mechanism. This work presents an approach to designing efficient dual-type-II heterojunction photocatalysts for the sustainable conversion of solar energy to photodegrade dyes in dyeing wastewater.

Both bone mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) and their exosomes suggest promising therapeutic tools for bone regeneration. Lithium has been reported to regulate BMSC function and engineer exosomes to improve bone regeneration in patients with glucocorticoid-induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head. However, the mechanisms by which lithium promotes osteogenesis have not been elucidated. Here, we demonstrated that lithium promotes the osteogenesis of BMSCs via lithium-induced increases in the secretion of exosomal Wnt10a to activate Wnt/β-catenin signaling, whose secretion is correlated with enhanced MARK2 activation to increase the trafficking of the Rab11a and Rab11FIP1 complexes together with exosomal Wnt10a to the plasma membrane. Then, we compared the proosteogenic effects of exosomes derived from lithium-treated or untreated BMSCs (Li-Exo or Con-Exo) both in vitro and in vivo. We found that, compared with Con-Exo, Li-Exo had superior abilities to promote the uptake and osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs. To optimize the in vivo application of these hydrogels, we fabricated Li-Exo-functionalized gelatin methacrylate (GelMA) hydrogels, which are more effective at promoting osteogenesis and bone repair than Con-Exo. Collectively, these findings demonstrate the mechanism by which lithium promotes osteogenesis and the great promise of lithium for engineering BMSCs and their exosomes for bone regeneration, warranting further exploration in clinical practice.

The lack of selective and safe in vivo IRE1α tool molecules has limited the evaluation of IRE1α as a viable target to treat multiple myeloma. Focus on improving the physicochemical properties of a literature compound by decreasing lipophilicity, molecular weight, and basicity allowed the discovery of a novel series with a favorable in vitro safety profile and good oral exposure. These efforts culminated in the identification of a potent and selective in vivo tool compound, G-5758 , that was well tolerated following multiday oral administration of doses up to 500 mg/kg. G-5758 demonstrated comparable pharmacodynamic effects to induced IRE1 knockdown as measured by XBP1s levels in a multiple myeloma model (KMS-11).

Cationic polysaccharides have been extensively studied for drug delivery via the bloodstream, yet few have progressed to clinical use. Endothelial cells lining the blood vessel wall are coated in an anionic extracellular matrix called the glycocalyx. However, we do not fully comprehend the charged polysaccharide interactions with the glycocalyx. We reveal that the cationic polysaccharide poly(acetyl, arginyl) glucosamine (PAAG) exhibits the highest association with the endothelial glycocalyx, followed by dextran (neutral) and hyaluronan (anionic). Furthermore, we demonstrate that PAAG binds heparan sulfate (HS) within the glycocalyx, leading to intracellular accumulation. Using an in vitro glycocalyx model, we demonstrate a charge-based extent of association of polysaccharides with HS. Mechanistically, we observe that PAAG binding to HS occurs via a condensation reaction and functionally protects HS from degradation. Together, this study reveals the interplay between polysaccharide charge properties and interactions with the endothelial cell glycocalyx toward improved delivery system design and application.

The all-inorganic halide perovskite CsPbX 3 (X = Cl, Br, or I) offers various advantages, such as tunable electronic structure and high carrier mobility. However, its potential application in thermoelectric materials remains underexplored. In this study, we propose a simple yet effective method to synthesize a CsPbX 3 /Bi 0.4 Sb 1.6 Te 3 (BST) nanocomposite by sintering a uniformly mixed raw powder. The intrinsic excitation of the BST system is suppressed by exploiting the rich phase structure and tunable electrical transport properties of CsPbX 3 , and the thermoelectric properties were synergistically optimized. Notably, for CsPbI 3 , its phase-transition-induced dislocation arrays together with low group velocities drastically reduce thermal conductivity. As a result, the composite achieves an ultrahigh average figure-of-merit ( ZT ) of 1.4 from 298 to 523 K. The two-pair TE module demonstrates a superior conversion efficiency of 7.3%. This study expands the potential applications of inorganic halide perovskites, into thermoelectrics.

The current investigation deployed Mendelian randomization (MR) to elucidate the causal relationship between circulating proteins and sepsis. A rigorous two-sample MR analysis evaluated the effect of plasma proteins on the sepsis susceptibility. To affirm the integrity of MR findings, a suite of supplementary analyses, including Bayesian colocalization, Steiger filtering, the assessment of protein-altering polymorphisms, and the correlation between expression quantitative trait loci and protein quantitative trait loci (pQTLs), was employed. The study further integrated the examination of protein-protein interactions and pathway enrichment, along with the identification of pharmacologically actionable targets, to advance our comprehension and outline potential sepsis therapies. Subsequent analyses leveraging cis -pQTLs within MR studies unveiled noteworthy relationships: 94 specific proteins exhibited significant links with sepsis-related 28 day mortality, while 96 distinct proteins correlated with survival outcomes in sepsis. Furthermore, incorporating both cis - and trans -pQTLs in MR investigations revealed more comprehensive findings, associating 201 unique proteins with sepsis-related 28 day mortality and 199 distinct proteins with survival outcomes in sepsis. Markedly, colocalization analyses confirmed that eight of these proteins exhibited prominent evidence for colocalization, emphasizing their potential criticality in sepsis pathophysiology. Further in silico analyses were conducted to delineate putative regulatory networks and to highlight prospective drug targets among these proteins. Employing the MR methodology has shed light on plasma proteins implicated in the etiopathogenesis of sepsis. Activating multielectron reactions of sodium superionic conductor (NASICON)-type cathodes toward higher energy density remains imperative to boost their application feasibility. However, multisodium storage with high stability is difficult to achieve due to the sluggish reaction kinetics, irreversible phase transitions, and negative structural degradation. Herein, a kind of NASICON-type Na 2.5 V 1.5 Ti 0.5 (PO 4 ) 3 /C (NVTP-0.5) hierarchical microsphere consisting of abundant primary nanoparticles is designed, realizing a reversible 3.2-electron reaction with high stability. The optimized NVTP-0.5 cathode demonstrates an ultrahigh discharge capacity of 192.42 mAh g -1 , energy density of up to 497.3 Wh kg -1 at 20 mA g -1 , and capacity retention ratio of 94.1% after 1000 cycles at 1 A g -1 . Additionally, the NVTP-0.5 cathode delivers excellent tolerance to extreme temperatures while also achieving a high-energy density of 400 Wh kg -1 (based on the cathode mass) in a full-cell configuration. Systematic in situ/ex situ analysis results confirm the multisodium storage processes of NVTP-0.5 involving successive redox reactions (V 2+ /V 3+ , Ti 3+ /Ti 4+ , and V 3+ /V 4+ redox couples) and reversible structure evolution (solid-solution and biphasic mechanisms), which contribute to the high capacity and excellent cycling stability. This work indicates that the rational regulation of components with different functions can unlock more possibilities for the development of NASICON-type cathodes.

In this paper, N-doped TiO 2 mixed crystals are prepared via direct calcination of TiN for highly selective oxidation of CH 4 to HCHO at room temperature. The structures of the prepared TiO 2 samples are characterized to be N-doped TiO 2 of anatase and rutile mixed crystals. The crystal structures of TiO 2 samples are determined by XRD spectra and Raman spectra, while N doping is demonstrated by TEM mapping, ONH inorganic element analysis, and high-resolution XPS results. Significantly, the production rate of HCHO is as high as 23.5 mmol·g -1 ·h -1 with a selectivity over 90%. Mechanism studies reveal that H 2 O is the main oxygen source and acts through the formation of ·OH. DFT calculations indicate that the construction of a mixed crystal structure and N-doping modification mainly act by increasing the adsorption capacity of H 2 O. An efficient photocatalyst was prepared by us to convert CH 4 to HCHO with high yield and selectivity, greatly promoting the development of the photocatalytic CH 4 conversion study.

Electrochemical C-H mono/multi-bromination regulation of N -sulfonylanilines on the cost-effective CF electrode is described. This reaction proceeds smoothly under mild conditions with a broad substrate scope, affording diverse mono/multi-brominated anilines in moderate to good yields. Mechanism study reveals that this transformation involves anodic oxidation, aromatic electrophilic substitution, and deprotonation. Preliminary electroactive molecule screening results in its prospective application in electroactive MBs for electrochemical biosensors.

Bacteria have immense potential as biological therapeutic agents that can be used to treat diseases, owing to their inherent immunomodulatory activity, targeting capabilities, and biosynthetic functions. The integration of synthetic biomaterials with natural bacteria has led to the construction of bacterial biomaterials with enhanced functionality and exceptional safety features. In this review, recent progress in the field of bacterial biomaterials, including bacterial drug delivery systems, bacterial drug-producing factories, bacterial biomaterials for metabolic engineering, bacterial biomaterials that can be remotely controlled, and living bacteria hydrogel formulations, is described and summarized. Furthermore, future trends in advancing next-generation bacterial biomaterials for enhanced clinical applications are proposed in the conclusion.

Flexible shortwave infrared detectors play a crucial role in wearable devices, bioimaging, automatic control, etc. Commercial shortwave infrared detectors face challenges in achieving flexibility due to the high fabrication temperature and rigid material properties. Herein, we develop a high-performance flexible Te 0.7 Se 0.3 photodetector, resulting from the unique 1D crystal structure and small elastic modulus of Te-Se alloying. The flexible photodetector exhibits a broad-spectrum response ranging from 365 to 1650 nm, a fast response time of 6 μs, a broad linear dynamic range of 76 dB, and a specific detectivity of 4.8 × 10 10 Jones at room temperature. The responsivity of the flexible detector remains at 93% of its initial value after bending with a small curvature of 3 mm. Based on the optimized flexible detector, we demonstrate its application in shortwave infrared imaging. These results showcase the great potential of Te 0.7 Se 0.3 photodetectors for flexible electronics.

Sodium (Na) super ion conductor (NASICON) structure Na 3 MnTi(PO 4 ) 3 (NMTP) is considered a promising cathode for sodium-ion batteries due to its reversible three-electron reaction. However, the inferior electronic conductivity and sluggish reaction kinetics limit its practical applications. Herein, we successfully constructed a three-dimensional cross-linked porous architecture NMTP material (AsN@NMTP/C) by a natural microbe of Aspergillus niger (AsN), and the structure of different NMTP cathodes was optimized by adjusting different transition metal Mn/Ti ratios. Both approaches effectively altered the three-dimensional NMTP structure, not only improving electronic conductivity and controlling Na + diffusion pathways but also enhancing the electrochemical kinetics of the material. The resultant AsN@NMTP/C-650, sintered at 650 °C, exhibits better electrochemical performance with higher reversible three-electron reactions corresponding to the voltage platforms of Ti 4+/ 3+ , Mn 3+/ 2+ , and Mn 4+/ 3+ around 2.1, 3.6, and 4.1 V (vs Na + /Na), respectively. The capacity retention rate is up to 89.3% after 1000 cycles at a 2C rate. Moreover, a series of results confirms that the Na 3.4 Mn 1.2 Ti 0.8 (PO 4 ) 3 cathode has the most excellent electrochemical performance when the Mn/Ti ratio is 1.2/0.8, with a high capacity of 96.59 mAh g -1 and 97.1% capacity retention after 500 cycles.

Size plays a crucial role in chemistry and material science. Subnanometer polyoxometalate (POM) clusters have gained attention in various fields, but their use in thermoelectrics is still limited. To address this issue, we propose the POM clusters as an effective second phase to enhance the thermoelectric properties of Bi 0.4 Sb 1.6 Te 3 . Thanks to their subnanometer size, POM clusters improve electrical transport behavior through the superposition of atomic orbitals and the interfacial scattering effect. Furthermore, their ultrasmall size strongly reduces thermal conductivity. Consequently, the introduction of a mere 0.1 mol % of POM into the Bi 0.4 Sb 1.6 Te 3 matrix realizes a state-of-the-art zT value of 1.46 at 348 K, a 45% enhancement over Bi 0.4 Sb 1.6 Te 3 (1.01), along with a maximum thermoelectric-conversion efficiency of the integrated module of 6.0%. The enhancement of carrier mobility and the suppression of thermal conduction achieved by introducing the subnanometer clusters hold promise for various applications, such as electronic devices and thermal management.

Half-life is a significant pharmacokinetic parameter included in the excretion phase of absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion. It is one of the key factors for the successful marketing of drug candidates. Therefore, predicting half-life is of great significance in drug design. In this study, we emplo yed eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGboost), randomForest (RF), gradient boosting machine (GBM), and supporting vector machine (SVM) to build quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) models on 3512 compounds and evaluated model performance by using root-mean-square error (RMSE), R 2 , and mean absolute error (MAE) metrics and interpreted features by SHapley Additive exPlanation (SHAP). Furthermore, we developed consensus models through integrating four individual models and validated their performance using a Y-randomization test and applicability domain analysis. Finally, matched molecular pair analysis was used to extract the transformation rules. Our results revealed that XGboost outperformed other individual models (RMSE = 0.176, R 2 = 0.845, MAE = 0.141). The consensus model integrating all four models continued to enhance prediction performance (RMSE = 0.172, R 2 = 0.856, MAE = 0.138). We evaluated the reliability, robustness, and generalization ability via Y-randomization test and applicability domain analysis. Meanwhile, we utilized SHAP to interpret features and employed matched molecular pair analysis to extract chemical transformation rules that provide suggestions for optimizing drug structure. In conclusion, we believe that the consensus model developed in this study serve as a reliable tool to evaluate half-life in drug discovery, and the chemical transformation rules concluded in this study could provide valuable suggestions in drug discovery.

Linear polyisoprene (PI) and SiO 2 - g -PI particle brushes were synthesized by both conventional and activators regenerated by electron transfer (ARGET) atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The morphology and solution state study on the particle brushes by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and dynamic light scattering (DLS) confirmed the successful grafting of PI ligands on the silica surface. The presence of nanoparticle clusters suggests low grafting density (associated with the limited initiation efficiency of ARGET for PI). Nevertheless, particle brushes with very high molecular weights, M n > 300,000, were prepared, which significantly improved the dispersion of silica nanoparticles and also contributed to excellent mechanical performance. The reinforcing effects of SiO 2 nanofillers and very high molecular weight PI ligands were investigated by dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) as well as computational simulation for the cured linear PI homopolymer/SiO 2 - g -PI particle brush bulk films.

Recently, conductive hydrogels have emerged as promising materials for smart, wearable devices. However, limited mechanical properties and low sensitivity greatly restrict their lifespan. Based on the design of biomimetic-layered structure, the conductive hydrogels with nacre-mimetic structure were prepared by using layered acrylic bentonite (AABT) and phytic acid (PA) as multifunctional "brick" and "mortar" units. Among them, the unique rigid cyclic multihydroxyl structure of the "organic mortar" PA preserves both ultrastretchability (4050.02%) and high stress (563.20 kPa) of the hydrogel, which far exceeds most of the reported articles. Because of the synergistic effect of AABT and PA, the hydrogel exhibits an excellent adhesive strength (87.74 kPa). The role of AABT in the adhesive properties of hydrogels is proposed for the first time, and a general strategy for improving the adhesive properties of hydrogels by using AABT is demonstrated. Furthermore, AABT provides ion channels and PA ionizes abundant H + , conferring a high gauge factor (GF = 14.95) and excellent antimicrobial properties to the hydrogel. Also, inspired by fruit batteries, simple self-powered flexible sensors were developed. Consequently, this study provides knowledge for functional bentonite filler modified hydrogel, and the prepared multifunctional ionic conductive hydrogel shows great application potential in the field of intelligent wearable devices.

As isoelectronic counterparts of carbon fullerenes, medium-sized boron nitride clusters also prefer cage structures composed of even-sized polygons. As the cluster size increases, the number of cage isomers grows rapidly, and determining the ground state structure requires a tremendous amount of DFT calculations. Herein, we develop a graph convolutional network (GCN) that can describe the energy of a (BN) n cage by its topology connection. We define a vertex feature vector on a dual polyhedron by the permutation of the neighbor vertices' degree and aggregate the information on vertices by two graph convolutional layers to learn the local feature of the dual polyhedron. The GCN is trained on (BN) 28 and subsequently tested on (BN) 23 and (BN) 24 data sets, which satisfactorily reproduce the order of isomer energies from DFT calculations. We further employ the trained GCN to predict the ground state structures within the size range of n = 25-32, which agree well with DFT results. Using the same GCN framework, we also successfully trained the highest-occupied or lowest-unoccupied orbital energies of (BN) 28 isomers. The present graph convolutional network establishes a direct mapping between the topological connection and the energetic or electronic properties of a cage-like cluster or molecule.

Developing efficient bifunctional catalysts for nonprecious metal-based oxygen reduction (ORR) and oxygen evolution (OER) is crucial to enhance the practical application of zinc-air batteries. The study harnessed electrostatic forces to anchor the nanoflower-like NiCo 2 O 4 onto graphene oxide, mitigating the poor inherent conductivity in NiCo 2 O 4 as a transition metal oxide and preventing excessive agglomeration of the nanoflower-like structures during catalysis. Consequently, the resulting composite, NiCo 2 O 4 -GO/C, exhibited notably superior ORR and OER catalytic performance compared to pure nanoflower-like NiCo 2 O 4 . Notably, it excelled in OER catalytic activity of the OER relative to the precious metal RuO 2 . As a bifunctional catalyst for ORR and OER, NiCo 2 O 4 -GO/C displayed a potential difference of 0.88 V between the ORR half-wave potential and the OER potential at 10 mA·cm -2 , significantly lower than the 1.08 V observed for pure flower-like NiCo 2 O 4 and comparable to the 0.88 V exhibited by precious metal catalysts Pt/C + RuO 2 . The NiCo 2 O 4 -GO/C-based zinc-air battery demonstrated a discharge capacity of 817.3 mA h·g -1 , surpassing that of precious metal-based zinc-air batteries. Moreover, charge-discharge cycling tests indicated the superior stability of the NiCo 2 O 4 -GO/C-based zinc-air battery compared to its precious metal-based counterparts.

Layer metal oxides demonstrate great commercial application potential in sodium-ion batteries, while their commercialization is extremely hampered by the unsatisfactory cycling performance caused by the irreversible phase transition and interfacial side reaction. Herein, trimethoxymethylsilane (TMSI) is introduced into electrolytes to construct an advanced cathode/electrolyte interphase by tuning the solvation structure of anions. It is found that due to the stronger interaction between ClO 4 - and TMSI than that of ClO 4 - and PC/FEC, the ClO 4 - -TMSI complexes tend to accumulate on the surface of the cathode during the charging process, leading to the formation of a stable cathode/electrolyte interface (CEI). In addition, the Si species with excellent electronic insulation ability are distributed in the TMSI-derived CEI film, which is conducive to inhibiting the continuous side reaction of solvents and the growth of the CEI film. As a result, under a current density of 250 mA g -1 , the capacity retention of the NaNi 1/3 Fe 1/3 Mn 1/3 O 2 (NFM) cathode after 200 cycles in the TMSI-modified electrolyte is 74.4% in comparison to 51.5% of the bare electrolyte (1 M NaClO 4 /PC/5% FEC). Moreover, the NFM cathode shows better kinetics, with the specific discharge capacity increasing from 22 to 67 mAh g -1 at 300 mA g -1 . It also demonstrates greatly improved rate capability, cycling stability, and Coulombic efficiency under various operating conditions, including high temperature (55 °C) and high cutoff voltage (2.0-4.3 V vs Na + /Na).

High-entropy oxides (HEOs) with an ultrathin geometric structure are especially expected to exhibit extraordinary performance in different fields. The phase structure is deemed as a key factor in determining the properties of HEOs, rendering their phase control synthesis tempting. However, the disparity in intrinsic phase structures and physicochemical properties of multiple components makes it challenging to form single-phase HEOs with the target phase. Herein, we proposed a self-lattice framework-guided strategy to realize the synthesis of ultrathin HEOs with desired phase structures, including rock-salt, spinel, perovskite, and fluorite phases. The participation of the Ga assistor was conducive to the formation of the high-entropy mixing state by decreasing the formation energy. The as-prepared ultrathin spinel HEOs were demonstrated to be an excellent catalyst with high activity and stability for the oxygen evolution reaction in water electrolysis. Our work injects new vitality into the synthesis of HEOs for advanced applications and undoubtedly expedites their phase engineering.

Alginate lyase Aly448, a potential new member of the polysaccharide lyase (PL) 7 family, which was cloned and identified from the macroalgae-associated bacterial metagenomic library, showed bifunctionality. The molecular docking results revealed that Aly448 has two completely different binding sites for alginate (polyMG), poly-α-l-guluronic acid (polyG), and poly-β-d-mannuronic acid (polyM) substrates, respectively, which might be the molecular basis for the enzyme's bifunctionality. Truncational results confirmed that predicted key residues affected the bifunctionality of Aly448, but did not wholly explain. Besides, Aly448 presented excellent biochemical characteristics, such as higher thermal stability and pH tolerance. Degradation of polyMG, polyM, and polyG substrates by Aly448 produced tetrasaccharide (DP4), disaccharide (DP2), and galactose (DP1), which exhibited excellent antioxidant activity. These findings provide novel insights into the substrate recognition mechanism of bifunctional alginate lyases and pave a new path for the exploitation of natural antioxidant agents.

Chemical upgrading of waste plastics is currently one of the most important methods for addressing plastic pollution. In comparison to the current methods of incineration or landfill, chemical upgrading enables the utilization of carbon and hydrogen elements in waste plastics as resources. This process strongly relies on efficient catalysts and reaction systems. Through catalyst design, waste plastics can be converted into fuels or chemicals under the optimized reaction conditions, extending their life cycles. In this review, we systematically discuss various chemical conversion methods for polyolefin waste plastics, which account for a large proportion of waste plastics. We further explore the remaining challenges and future development trends in this field, including improving product value through product engineering and shifting research perspectives to exploring the tolerance of catalysts toward impurities in practical waste plastic waste rather than using pure plastic feedstock.

Cancer immunotherapy is expected to achieve tumor treatment mainly by stimulating the patient's own immune system to kill tumor cells. However, the low immunogenicity of the tumor and the poor efficiency of tumor antigen presentation result in a variety of solid tumors that do not respond to immunotherapy. Herein, we designed a proton-gradient-driven porphyrin-based liposome (PBL) with highly efficient Toll-like receptor 7 (TLR7) agonist (imiquimod, R837) encapsulation (R837@PBL). R837@PBL rapidly released R837 in the acid microenvironment to activate the TLR in the endosome inner membrane to promote bone-marrow-derived dendritic cell maturation and enhance antigen presentation. R837@PBL upon laser irradiation triggered immunogenic cell death of tumor cells and tumor-associated antigen release after subcutaneous injection, activated TLR7, formed in situ tumor nanoadjuvants, and enhanced the antigen presentation efficiency. Photoimmunotherapy promoted the infiltration of cytotoxic T lymphocytes into tumor tissues, inhibited the growth of the treated and abscopal tumors, and exerted highly effective photoimmunotherapeutic effects. Hence, our designed in situ tumor nanoadjuvants are expected to be an effective treatment for treated and abscopal tumors, providing a novel approach for synergistic photoimmunotherapy of tumors.

Molybdenum disulfide shows promise as an anode material for lithium-ion batteries. However, its commercial potential has been constrained due to the poor conductivity and significant volume expansion during the charge/discharge cycles. To address these issues, in this study, N-doped MoS 2 /C composites (NMC) were prepared via an enhanced hydrothermal method, using ammonium molybdate and thiourea as molybdenum and sulfur sources, respectively. Polyethylene glycol 400 (PEG400) and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) were added in the hydrothermal procedure as soft template surfactants and nitrogen/carbon sources. The crystal structure, morphology, elemental composition, and surface valence state of the N-doped MoS 2 /C composites were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), respectively. The results indicate that the NMC prepared by this method are spherical particles with a nanoflower-like structure composed of MoS 2 flakes, having an average particle size of about 500 nm. XPS analysis shows the existence of C and N elements in the samples as C-N, C-C, and pyrrolic N. As anodes for LIBs, the NMC without annealing deliver an initial discharge capacity of 548.2 mAh·g -1 at a current density of 500 mA·g -1 . However, this capacity decays in the following cycles with a discharge capacity of 66.4 mAh·g -1 and a capacity retention rate of only 12% after 50 cycles. In contrast, the electrochemical properties of the counterparts are enhanced after annealing, which exhibits an initial discharge capacity of 575.9 mAh·g -1 and an ultimate discharge capacity of 669.2 mAh·g -1 after 70 cycles. The capacity retention rate decreases initially but later increases and elevated afterward to reach 116% at the 70th cycle, indicating an improvement in charge-discharge performance. The exposure of aquatic organisms to pollutants often occurs concomitantly with salinity fluctuations. Here, we reported the effects of erythromycin (0.250, 7.21, and 1030 μg/L) on marine invertebrate N . succinea and its intestinal microbiome under varying salinity levels (5‰, 15‰, and 30‰). The salinity elicited significant effects on the growth and intestinal microbiome of N . succinea . The susceptibility of the intestinal microbiome to erythromycin increased by 8.7- and 6.2-fold at salinities of 15‰ and 30‰, respectively, compared with that at 5‰ salinity. Erythromycin caused oxidative stress and histological changes in N . succinea intestines, and inhibited N . succinea growth in a concentration-dependent manner under 30‰ salinity with a maximum inhibition of 25%. At the intestinal microbial level, erythromycin enhanced the total cell counts at 5‰ salinity but reduced them at 15‰ salinity. Under all tested salinities, erythromycin diminished the antibiotic susceptibility of the intestinal microbiome. Two-way ANOVA revealed significant interactive effects ( p < 0.05) between salinity and erythromycin on various parameters, including antibiotic susceptibility and intestinal microbial diversity. The present findings demonstrated the significant role of salinity in modulating the impacts of erythromycin, emphasizing the necessity to incorporate salinity fluctuations into environmental risk assessments.

With the synergies of multiple elements, bimetallic sulfides exhibit excellent performance as splendid electrode materials and effective catalysts. However, large-scale synthesis of high-performance single-phase multicomponent sulfides has always been a challenge. Based on thermodynamic calculations, the intermediate phases NiS 2 and Co 3 S 4 are devoted to the synthesis of single-phase Ni 0.5 Co 0.5 S 2 . Because the reaction from NiS 2 and Co 3 S 4 to Ni 0.5 Co 0.5 S 2 goes through a lower energy, it thermodynamically contributes to achieving a single-phase structure. Thus, single-phase Ni 0.5 Co 0.5 S 2 can be simply and quickly prepared by two-step sintering and successfully scalable for mass production. This technique can extend to the whole ingredients Ni 1- x Co x S 2 . Ni 0.5 Co 0.5 S 2 demonstrates excellent thermal stability and good conductivity. It delivers a specific capacity of 671 mAh·g -1 and a specific energy of 1173 Wh·kg -1 when applied to a thermal battery cathode, which are increased by 18.6% and 25.0%, respectively, compared to pristine NiS 2 (566 mAh·g -1 ) and CoS 2 (537 mAh·g -1 ). This work proposes an innovative sintering method, which is applicable for cost-efficient and large-scale synthesis of single-phase multicomponent sulfides.

Recently, we developed a bivalent prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) radioligand ([ 18 F]AlF-Bi-PSMA), which showed higher tumor uptake and retention in PSMA-positive mouse models than the clinically used radioligands, [ 68 Ga]Ga-PSMA-11 and [ 18 F]PSMA-1007. Here, we developed two 177 Lu-labeled bivalent PSMA ligands with (DOTA-Alb-Bi-PSMA) or without an albumin-binding motif (DOTA-Bi-PSMA) to enhance radiotherapeutic efficacy with minimal toxicity. The results demonstrated that both 177 Lu-labeled bivalent radioligands showed good stability, high binding affinity, and PSMA-targeting specificity in vitro. Compared with [ 177 Lu]Lu-PSMA-617, both [ 177 Lu]Lu-Bi-PSMA and [ 177 Lu]Lu-Alb-Bi-PSMA showed a higher area under the curve (AUC) of tumor accumulation and superior therapeutic efficacy. However, [ 177 Lu]Lu-Alb-Bi-PSMA exhibited a dose-dependent increase in acute damage to kidneys. In terms of the radionuclide therapy efficacy and side effects, [ 177 Lu]Lu-Bi-PSMA exhibited well-balanced action with high tumor-to-organs AUC ratios, resulting in remarkable therapeutic efficacy and negligible side effects. These promising results warrant further investigations to achieve the clinical translation of [ 177 Lu]Lu-Bi-PSMA.

This work studied the membrane curvature generated by anchored proteins lacking amphipathic helices and intrinsic morphologies, including the Epsin N-terminal homology domain, intrinsically disordered C-terminal domain, and truncated C-terminal fragments, by using coarse-grained molecular dynamics simulations. We found that anchored proteins can stabilize the thermal undulation of membranes at a wavelength five times the protein's binding size. This proportional connection is governed by the membrane bending rigidity and protein density. Extended intrinsically disordered proteins with relatively high hydrophobicity favor colliding with the membrane, leading to a much larger binding size, and show superiority in generating membrane curvature at low density over folded proteins.

Microbial transplantation in early life was a strategy to optimize the health and performance of livestock animals. This study aimed to investigate the effect of active ruminal solids microorganism supplementation on newborn lamb gut microbiota and serum metabolism. Twenty-four Youzhou dark newborn lambs were randomly divided into three groups: (1) newborn lambs fed with sterilized goat milk inoculated with sterilized normal saline (CON), supernatant from ruminal solids (SRS), or autoclaved supernatant from ruminal solids (ASRS). Results showed that SRS increased gut bacterial richness and community, downregulating the Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio, and increased the abundance of some probiotics (Bacteroidetes, Spirochaetota, and Fibrobacterota), while reducing the abundance of Fusobacteriota, compared to the CON group. SRS also improved the plasma metabolic function, such as arachidonic acid metabolism, primary bile acid biosynthesis, and tryptophan metabolism and then actively promoted the levels of ALP and HLD. Our study indicated that inoculation with active ruminal solids significantly affected the intestinal microbial communities and metabolic characteristics, and these changes can improve the growing health of the newborn lamb. These findings provided an experimental and theoretical basis for the application of ruminal solid-attached microorganisms in the nutritional management of lambs reared for human consumption.

Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is the most prevalent form of progressive hair loss disorder in both men and women, significantly impacting their appearance and overall quality of life. Overactivation of the AR signaling pathway in dermal papilla cells (DPCs) plays a crucial role in the development and progression of AGA. Considering the severe systemic side effects associated with oral AR antagonists, the idea of developing of topical AR antagonists with rapid metabolic deactivation properties emerged as a promising approach. Herein, through systematic structural optimization, we successfully identified compound 30a as a potent and selective AR antagonist with favorable pharmacokinetic properties, resulting in high skin exposure and low plasma exposure following topical administration. Importantly, in both hair-growth and AGA mouse models, compound 30a showed potent hair-growth-promoting effects without any noticeable toxicity. These findings suggest that compound 30a holds significant potential as a topical AR antagonist for treating AGA patients.

The water-oil-rock system's surfactant and electrostatic interactions are essential for removing oil droplets from rock substrates. Our work illustrates the impact of surface charge on the oil contact angle in an ideal system comprising silica, water, and dodecane; smaller contact angles are observed for more polar substrates. Modifying the polarity of the model silica surface allows for the observation of the creation of heteromolecule channels and the process of stripping crude oil while accounting for the impacts of water flow and different types of surfactant molecules. In solutions containing ionic surfactants, the injection and diffusion of water molecules between the oil layer and the silica substrate are facilitated by the disturbance of the oil molecules by the surfactant molecules. By comparing different surfactants in water flow, the characterization of water molecular channels and the stripping process of crude oil can be observed. The disruption of oil molecules by the surfactant molecules has been found to enhance the injection and diffusion of water molecules between the oil layer and the silica substrate in solutions containing ionic surfactants. The size of the contact angle and the extension of the water channel are simultaneously greatly influenced by the surfactant's molecular characteristics and the substrate's polarity. These simulation results show that several factors influence the process of water molecule channel creation that water molecules diffuse, and the detachment of oil from the silica substrate is facilitated by the migration of surfactants to the bottom of the oil molecule and the electrostatic interactions between the water molecules and the silica substrate., Competing Interests: The authors declare no competing financial interest., (© 2024 The Authors. Improving catalytic performance relies heavily on the rational design of the spatial structure of electrocatalysts, achieved through exposure of active sites, acceleration of the charge/mass transfer rate, and confinement of the reactants. In this study, we have fabricated Co nanoparticles embedded in overhang eave-like hollow N-doped mesoporous carbon (Co@EMPC) by adjusting the thickness of mesoporous polydopamine (mPDA). Thanks to the abundance of short mesoporous channels within the porous structure and the tuned electronic properties resulting from heterojunction structures between metal and carbon, the prepared Co@EMPC provides increased accessibility to active sites and enhanced mass and charge transfer rates. These features contribute to superior performance in the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), with a half-wave potential of 0.874 V vs RHE, as well as exceptional durability in alkaline media. This study introduces a useful approach to enhance the ORR using eave-like hollow nanoreactors.

The ubiquitous presence of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) in environments has aroused global concerns; however, minimal information is available regarding their multimedia distribution, bioaccumulation, and trophic transfer in marine environments. Herein, we analyzed 77 representative PPCPs in samples of surface and bottom seawater, surface sediments, and benthic biota from the Bohai Sea. PPCPs were pervasively detected in seawater, sediments, and benthic biota, with antioxidants being the most abundant PPCPs. PPCP concentrations positively correlated between the surface and bottom water with a decreasing trend from the coast to the central oceans. Higher PPCP concentrations in sediment were found in the Yellow River estuary, and the variations in the physicochemical properties of PPCPs and sediment produced a different distribution pattern of PPCPs in sediment from seawater. The log D ow , but not log K ow , showed a linear and positive relationship with bioaccumulation and trophic magnification factors and a parabolic relationship with biota-sediment accumulation factors. The trophodynamics of miconazole and acetophenone are reported for the first time. This study provides novel insights into the multimedia distribution and biomagnification potential of PPCPs and suggests that log D ow is a better indicator of their bioaccumulation and trophic magnification.

Today, agricultural irrigation consumes the largest amount of freshwater globally, while humans are threatened by water scarcity. To eliminate the trade-off between hunger and thirst, here, we show off-grid maritime agriculture based on a floating solar-driven agro-desalination wooden dome. In this dome, part of the visible light is transmitted for photosynthesis, and the remaining solar energy drives solar desalination, providing enough water (>4 mm day -1 ) for irrigation. Based on this water-food synergy, the stages of germination and growth are demonstrated. This technology can, to a large extent, support food security and sustainable agriculture and, in principle, be used to create self-circulation systems at sea to help humans survive weather extremes such as floods and droughts.

Permanent structural changes in pure metals that are caused by plastic activity are normally irreparable after unloading. Because of the lack of experimental evidence, it is unclear whether the plastic activity can be repaired as the size of the pure metals decreases to several nanometers; it is also unclear how the metals accommodate the plastic deformation. In this study, the in situ atomic-scale loading and unloading of ∼2 nm Ag nanocrystals was investigated, and three modes of plastic deformation were observed: (i) the phase transition from the face-centered cubic (fcc) phase to the hexagonal close-packed (hcp) phase, (ii) stacking faults, and (iii) deformation twin nucleation. We show that all three modes resulted in structural changes that were reparable, and their generation and restoration during loading and unloading were observed in situ . We discovered that the deformation modes of nanosized metals can be predicted from the ratio of the energy barriers of the fcc-hcp phase transition (Δγ H ) and the deformation twin nucleation (Δγ T ), which differ from those of the theoretical modes of relatively large-sized metals. The proposed Δγ H /Δγ T criterion provides insights into the deformation mechanism of nanometals.

Due to their weak intrinsic spin-orbit coupling and a distinct bandgap of 3.06 eV, 2D carbon nitride (CN) flakes are promising materials for next-generation spintronic devices. However, achieving strong room-temperature (RT) and ambient-stable ferromagnetism (FM) remains a huge challenge. Here, we demonstrate that the strong RT FM with a high Curie temperature ( T C ) up to ∼400 K and saturation magnetization ( M s ) of 2.91 emu/g can be achieved. Besides, the RT FM exhibits excellent air stability, with M s remaining stable for over 6 months. Through the magneto-optic Kerr effect, Hall device, X-ray magnetic circular dichroism, and magnetic force microscopy measurements, we acquired clear evidence of magnetic behavior and magnetic domain evolutions at room temperature. Electrical and optical measurements confirm that the Co-doped CN retains its semiconductor properties. Detailed structural characterizations confirm that the single-atom Co coordination and nitrogen defects as well as C-C covalent bonds are simultaneously introduced into CN. Density functional theory calculations reveal that introducing C-C bonds causes carrier spin polarization, and spin-polarized carrier-mediated magnetic exchange between adjacent Co atoms leads to long-range magnetic ordering in CN. We believe that our findings provide a strong experimental foundation for the enormous potential of 2D wide bandgap semiconductor spintronic devices.

Efficient and durable electrocatalysts fabricated by using nanosized nonprecious-metal-based materials have attracted considerable attention for use in the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Understanding performance disparities and structure-property relationships of various nonprecious-metal-based nanostructures is crucial for optimizing their applications. Herein, CoP nanoparticles encompassed within a CoFeP shell (named CoP/CoFeP) are fabricated. The mesoporous CoFeP shell enables effective mass transport, affords abundant active sites, and ensures the accessibility of hybrid interfaces between CoP and CoFeP. Therefore, encased CoP/CoFeP nanocubes exhibit excellent OER catalytic activity with an overpotential of 266 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm -2 in alkaline media, superior to reference hollow CoFeP nanocubes and commercial RuO 2 . Experimental characterization and theoretical calculations show that the encased structure of CoP/CoFeP with a rich Fe-doped shell enables electronic interactions between CoP and CoFeP, as well as accelerates structural reconstruction that exposes more active sites, yielding an enhanced OER performance. This study aims to inspire further work on nonprecious-metal catalysts with tailored nanostructures and electronic properties for the OER.

The advancement of electrode materials plays a pivotal role in enhancing the performance of energy storage devices, thereby meeting the escalating need for energy storage and aligning with the imperative of sustainable development. Atomic manufacturing enables the precise manipulation of the crystal structure at the atomic level, thereby facilitating the development of electrode materials with customized physicochemical properties and enhancing their performance. In this Perspective, we elaborate on how atomic manufacturing enhances the important properties of electrode materials. Finally, we anticipate the prospect of materials and fabrication methods for atomic manufacturing in the future. This Perspective provides a comprehensive understanding for atomic manufacturing in electrode materials.

Side reactions and dendrite growth on the zinc metal anode surface seriously damage the shelf life and calendar life of Zn-based batteries. Here, an Al-complexed artificial interfacial layer is constructed on the Zn surface (denoted as Al-complex@Zn) by a low-cost, facile, and scalable chemical method. The Al-complex interfacial layer improves the wettability of the electrolyte. Meanwhile, the Al-complex layer not only inhibits the side reaction by a physical barrier on the Zn surface but also regulates the zinc-ion flux to realize the uniform deposition of Zn 2+ . The Zn//Zn symmetric cell with an Al-complex layer has realized an ultralong cycle life of 2400 h and an extremely low polarization voltage of 20 mV (1 mA cm -2 , 0.5 mAh cm -2 ), surpassing those reported in most literature. Furthermore, when an Al-complex@Zn//NaV 3 O 8 ·1.5H 2 O (NVO) full cell is assembled, a high capacity retention of 92.5% is achieved over 1000 cycles at a current density of 4 A g -1 . This work provides a facile and low-cost strategy on the modification of zinc anode to realize long-cycled aqueous Zn-ion batteries.

The poly( m -phenylene isophthalamide) (PMIA) paper has attracted extensive interests due to its ultrahigh mechanical properties as an ideal protective material for anti-impact damage applications. In the pursuit of additional properties, composites based on the PMIA matrix and various fillers are widely explored. However, additional improvements are frequently obtained at the expense of mechanical properties because of the serious interfacial compatibility brought by different components. In this study, a self-reinforced doping strategy is proposed by combining microscale PMIA fibers as the fillers and nanoscale PMIA fibers as the matrix to form a micronano paper. Without the limitation of the interfacial compatibility issues, the nanofibers are tightly aligned and adhered to the microfibers, enabling the in situ generation of hydrogen bonds at the interfaces. A compact interfacial structure is thus constructed with reduced porosity on the surface. It indicates that the microfibers have a positive impact on the improvement of mechanical properties. In our optimized sample with 5 wt % microfibers, the elastic modulus, tensile strength, and elongation are 1530 MPa, 24.8 MPa, and 5.3%, respectively, which are 142, 49.4, and 65% higher than those of the pristine nano-PMIA paper. In addition, the insulating performance is also improved, facilitating its further application extended to broad fields.

Catalysts serve pivotal roles in facilitating the development of sustainable energy systems on a global scale. Liquid metal usually refers to metal that is liquid below 330 °C, also known as low melting point metal. Liquid metal has emerged as an intriguing catalyst due to its commendable electrical conductivity, favorable fluidity, solubility in metals, phase transition capabilities, and modifiable oxide surface, thereby presenting a plethora of prospects for diverse catalytic reactions. In this Perspective, we elucidate the four primary merits of liquid metal catalysts: resistance to coking, the ability to tune elemental composition, the potential for structural transformation, and the capacity to inhibit coalescence. In light of this, a comprehensive summary is presented on the research advancements pertaining to liquid metal in methane pyrolysis, alkane dehydrogenation, carbon dioxide reduction, alcohol oxidation, and various other catalytic reactions. Finally, the challenges and prospects of liquid metal catalysts are elucidated.
