The synthesis and photophysical studies of the polymer series is reported with the goal of investigating the photoinduced electron transfer [PET] process between the poly[p- (phenyleneethynylene)-alt-(thienyleneethynylene)] [PPETE] polymer backbone and the amino receptor as a function of loading. Photophysical studies of these polymers show that the relative loading of the amino group has negligible structural or electronic distortion of the polymer backbone in the ground or excited state.

The design and evaluation of a highly selective and sensitive fluorescence 'turn-on' chemosensory system for iron cations is described. Results reveal that this novel hybrid inorganic/organic polymer method is useful in the detection of iron cations or modified for other analytes.
