The molecular structure, synthesis, deoxyribonucleic acid-cleaving mechanisms and cycloaromatizations of dienediyne molecules associated with the neocarzinostatin chromophore (CNS-C) are discussed. Specifically, monocyclic dienediynes were prepared from xylitol. The experiment demonstrated that synthesized dienediyne molecules can exhibit 'strong DNA-cleaving' properties at 37 degrees Celsius, which increase significantly when a thiol is present.
