Abstract

Catalytic Mannich reactions of 1,1-difluoro-2-trialkyl(aryl)silyl-2-trimethylsilyloxyethenes with a variety of sulfonylimines were utilized for the preparation of alpha, alpha-difluoro-beta-amino acid derivatives. The influence of the Lewis acid on the reaction was examined.

Abstract

Preparation of a variety of mono- and difuloroacetylsilanes and the corresponding silyl enol ethers from trifluoroethanol and chlorotrialkylsilanes in the presence of LDA through retro-Brook rearrangement is described. Higher yields of difluoroacetylsilanes resulted from sterically hindering silyl groups especially those bound to oxygen.

Abstract

Synthesis of 6-endo and 6-exomethylthio-2-endoarylbicyclo[2.2.1]heptanes was accomplished stereoselectively. The ionization energies, determined by photoelectron spectroscopy, and electrochemical oxidation potentials, determined by cyclic voltammetry, were lower for the 6-endomethylthio compounds than for their 6-exomethylthio analogues. Calculations supported the notion that facilitation of electron transfer in the 6-endomethylthio compounds results from through-space S···π interaction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

A variety of mono- and difluoroacetylsilanes and the corresponding silyl enol ethers were prepared from trifluoroethanol and chlorotrialkylsilanes in the presence of LDA through retro-Brook rearrangement. Sterically demanding silyl groups, especially those bound to oxygen, resulted in higher yields of difluoroacetylsilanes. The yields of difluoroacetylsilanes were also dramatically affected by the method of the termination of the reaction. Difluorohaloacetylsilanes were prepared from the corresponding difluoroethenyl silyl ethers with electrophilic halogenating reagents in good yields. A γ-fluorinated β-diketone 9a was prepared from monofluoroacetyltriisopropylsilane by nucleophilic acylation with methyl trifluoroacetate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
