A simple procedure to measure the zinc content of pennies by the reaction of the coins with acid and measuring the volume of hydrogen generated is demonstrated. The procedure illustrates simple chemical principles and students learn to used basic gas law and stoichiometry calculations and calculate the percent of zinc in the penny.
