Abstract

The article discusses a study on the relation between childhood pneumonia and common child infectious diseases like measles, rubella and mumps on current, persisting and incident asthma from childhood to middle age. Data from Tasmanian Longitudinal Health Study (TAHS) spanning 37 years was used. It concludes that the effect of childhood pneumonia on asthma risk does not go beyond adolescent although childhood measles and pertussis can increase incident asthma risk until the end of adolescence.
