The article reviews the contributing factors to the risk of new-onset diabetes after transplantation (NODAT), the incidence of which depends on follow-up length, diagnostic criteria and immunosuppression regimen. NODAT is reportedly a strong risk in older ages with type 2 diabetes and is linked with worse outcomes after renal transplantation. The article states that NODAT and impaired fasting glucose (IFG) should be defined based on the modified 2003 criteria for type 2 diabetes diagnosis.
