An interview with Gregory Tucker, recipient of the European Geosciences Union's 2012 Ralph Alger Bagnold Medal, is presented. Ted Scambos of the National Snow and Ice Data Center at the University of Colorado in Boulder states that this was the biggest ice shelf collapse recorded in history and the first time in 10,000 years. The role of climate change in its decline, as well as other factors that contributed to the event, is discussed.
